VBAC - for anyone out there who's giving it a go....

Was just wondering how many others out there are hoping for a VBAC or VBA2+C? Have come across a couple of others since yesterday and thought it might be nice to have somewhere to compare opinions/experiences/disapproving comments from Docs & MW's!!! Maybe we can help each other achieve what we want to acheive?

Hi
I've only just joined today so forgive me for just jumping in - I thought I might be able to contribute something as I had a fantastic VBA3C last year and it's a topic that is obviously very close to my heart :O. I did huge amounts of research prior to my VBAC and am more than willing to offer a sympathetic ear and to pass on any info that might help. Good luck to anyone going for it, and remember that it's YOUR body, YOUR baby and ultimately, YOUR choice - don't ever let anyone tell you any different ;)

Just had a VBAC, and this is my very first post. So apologies for any errors!

DS was breech and we had ECV. Laboured with epidural then had to have oxytocin drip. Baby in bad birthing position. Eventually I had an emergency section with DS for foetal distress (cord was round neck). It was pretty distressing and we spent a long time worrying over his development (fine now though, almost 2). Second was also breech till 37 weeks when great midwife correctly diagnosed she had turned and was heavily engaged (most midwives seemed very unsure). Anyway, was keen to attempt VBAC for benefits to baby (hormone release etc).

Laboured at home, suddenly went from contractions to "oh my goodness baby is coming" - arrived at hospital (10 mins drive) fully dilated and with no pain killer option Baby was in great position, noe of the previous problems occured (and midwife had said they would be unlikely)

Had difficulty pushing and did end up with episiotomy and venteuse - but found these interventions quite controllable and was grateful for help to get baby going. DD was delivered quickly and came out roaring. Am mighty pleased with myself. This was absolutely the right decision for me. Felt supported by staff and DH, have found recovery a breeze in comparison (esp. as we now have toddler). Would definately recommend anyone in same position to give it serious consideration. If you have good support it can be a great option.

I'm so glad to have found this site and m hoping desperately that someone on here can help or advise me. I am new to mumsnet and am coming up to 16 weeks. I am in essex and under sure start midwives who are very good as i have seen with my sister. I have had 2 sections my first was for breech and my second was a failed prostin induction i have never gone into labour spontaneously. I have had gestational diabetes in both pregnancies and feel in myself i have once again although i am trying to control it at this stage myself only been diet controlled i am also rheusus negative. At my booking in appointment i was told by my mw that they will be giving me a section even though i have a folder of evidence one that includes a page from the trust website that seems in favour of vba2c. I am worried that the prostin has done damage to my scar that would cause problems and also my last labour was full of interference and i know that contributed if not caused how my labour went. I have my notes from previous pregnancies/labour so i know what went on and i managed to get to 6/7 cms. I dont know what to do now i am desperate to not have a section although obviously any problems and i would be the 1st to say take me to theatre. Phew sorry for the length of that but there seem to be quite a few pro vbac mums n midwives on here and just wondered if any of you could help me. Thankyou x

feedmenow so sorry to hear you news.

I have been lurking watching this thread, bit to shy to jump in as im not actually PG yet. But I am planning DC2 and really really want a VBAC when I do!

ivelostmyboobs "elective ssection- which was fine til i realise i could actually feel it and they had to knock me out" Your the only person Ive "met" that has been through the same thing as me! In that I had EMCSection and felt EVERYTHING and had to be knocked out, so never saw DD being born or for a few hours! Hense why I am sooooooo adamant that I would want a VBAC next time!

Sorry to jump in a little, I just had to post after reading that!

Hi sjpmum, I am 25+3 with dc2, had a section with dd as she was very prem and footling breech and am very keen to attempt a normal delivery this time. If your normal mw is not supportive, can you ask for a referral to either/or obstetrician or consultant midwife to discuss your options, particularly if what your mw is saying contradicts trust stated policy? I saw an excellent cons midwife for a special appointment to discuss this and found it very helpful.

Hello - can I jump in here and ask you VBAC experts what you think my chances are this time round - I'm 32+2 weeks today.

I had an emergency section with DD (now 2). My waters leaked two days before my due date - went into the labour ward that night and my BP had gone through the roof - was induced twice and contractions started v strongly the next morning. Went through four hours of contractions that were so strong I thought I was going to pass out - had a BP monitor, bump monitor, two drips and a catheter so no chance of any active labour, and no pain relief. Then the crap monitor kept slipping off my bump so records were showing that the baby's heart rate was going down. A consultant came round and said a section was the safest option so was wheeled into the theatre, epidural didn't work so DP was ousted and I had a general. Woke up next to a fully clothed baby an hour or so later.

I'm still not sure if my section was necessary but I'm really worried the same thing might happen again - it was such a horrid horrid experience and took ages to recover. I'm not really complaining as have a beautiful and healthy DD. But if anyone has any tips on what I could do next time if I have high BP again, I'd be extremely grateful.

hi I'm 27 wks and at booking in appointment a vbac was sugested staight away. I had emergency section after failed induction with my ds. So if i go over i've been told i can have a couple of sweeps but no induction. However there may be a possibilty of low does drip to speed things up. Mw said although they will want to moitor lots this can be done seated rather than always flat on back and she said to try and stay upright and active to give baby best chance of staying in best position (ds went into odd position due to me being flat on back after epidural so he wouldn't come out and got distressed) Feel positve but scared.

ladies, I am 6 wks pregnant.DD is 6.5 month old - was born by e-mergency C due to severe pre-eclampsia (at full term). needless to say, I am scared to death.
If I do not get pre-eclampsia this time around, I would love to try VBAC.The problem is that Northwick Park would not let me (in general, I am very disappointed with their ante and post (especially)natal care. They have seriously let me down. Can someone suggest a different, VBAC-friendly hospital in London? Has anyone had a similar experience?
I am thinking to hire a doula. I can't afford hiring for many hours but am thinking, perhaps only for the period when I get to the hospital so I can have someone to support me and fight my corner so they cannot be once again so dismissive, rude and pushy! Any thoughts?
