How are you doing Stokey? Attempting to have a pro active day today. This has so far included veg shopping, soup making, reorganising of baby stuff and will shortly be followed by organisation of the linens (I wish I could say linen closet but it is a solitary box at the bottom of my wardrobe that actually cannot hold all the towels and sheets but I don't have any more space!)

stokeymonkey · 05/01/2007 14:19

Hi Indith - I'm still here too!
Am having a very veggy day today - had my active day yesterday which seems to have used up all my energy, walking all the way into town and buying guilty treats like trashy novels and cake! Did nothing for my backache and was puffing and blowing like a steam train by the time I got home..

Had a go at at a DIY sweep last night and found I could reach, just about! I was so surprised I whipped my hand away straight away, and now can't forget the slightly icky feeling of knowing what a slightly.....baggy cervix feels like! Had an uncomfortably crampy night, and am aching quite a bit today, so even though it didn't actually get things going, I think it may have nudged me one step closer...
I dare you to have a go too Indith!!

ps well done WB - fantastic news! Not feeling at ALL envious, honest!

Indith · 05/01/2007 14:23

Ok I'll have a bath later and give it a go!

Was a bit crampy after yesterdays but feel totally normal today. Have been and bought som black cohosh though. Reading about it there is such mixed advice but with induction starting to loom I may go for it.

stokeymonkey · 05/01/2007 14:24

oh, if you have a go at sweeping and can't quite reach properly, don't whatever you do ask your dp/dh to help - I did and there are no words to describe the expression on his face!!!!
I think horrified, nauseated and incredulous might just start to cover it...

Indith · 05/01/2007 14:29

Lol!

Yeah I can imagine. Since yesterday morning I have been able to win everything.

DP: But I've been working all day
Me: I had the MW hand up my cervix

DP: Oh so you want me to pay for coffee and cake
Me: MW, hand.

Wonder how long I can keep doing it, he has been getting immune to the old 'I'm incubating your child' one.

jabberwocky · 06/01/2007 04:27

How about trying this:

Eggplant Parmigiana Alla Scalini's
From restaurant owners Bobby and John Bogino

Nearly 300 baby pictures decorate Scalini's old-fashioned Italian restaurant in Cobb County, Ga.

All of the babies pictured on the Italian restaurant wall were born after their mothers ate the Scalini's eggplant parmigiana. The $9.95 plate of breaded eggplant smothered in cheese and thick marinara sauce is "guaranteed" to induce labor, the restaurant claims.

The eggplant legend began not long after the restaurant opened 23 years ago.

"Two or three years after we began, a few people had just mentioned to us they came in when they were pregnant, and ate this eggplant and had a baby a short time after that," said John Bogino, who runs the restaurant with his son, Bobby Bogino. "One person told another, and it just grew by itself by leaps and bounds."

To date, more than 300 of the pregnant women customers who ordered the eggplant have given birth within 48 hours, and the restaurant dubs them the "eggplant babies." If it doesn't work in two days, the moms-to-be get a gift certificate for another meal.

We make no promises, but the restaurant has graciously shared the recipe.

Ingredients

3 medium sized eggplants
1 cup flour
6 eggs, beaten
4 cups fine Italian bread crumbs, seasoned
Olive oil for sauteing
8 cups of marinara sauce (recipe below)
1/2 cup grated Romano cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 1/2 pounds of mozzarella cheese, shredded
2 cups of ricotta cheese

Directions

  1. After you wash the eggplant, slice them into 1/4-inch thick slices. You may choose to peel the eggplant before you slice it. However, you may want to leave the skin on since it contains a lot of vitamins.
  1. Place the eggplant slices on a layer of paper towels and sprinkle with a little salt, then cover with another layer of paper towels and hold it down with something heavy to drain the excess moisture. Let them sit for about an hour.
  1. Working with one slice of eggplant at a time, dust with flour, dip in beaten eggs, then coat well with breadcrumbs.
  1. Saute in preheated olive oil on both sides until golden brown.
  1. In baking dish, alternate layers of marinara sauce, eggplant slices, ricotta, parmesan and Romano cheeses, until you fill the baking dish, about 1/8 inch from the top. Cover with shredded mozzarella cheese, and bake for 25 minutes in a 375 degree oven. Let sit for 10 minutes before serving.

Scalini's Marinara Sauce

Ingredients

2 Tablespoons of chopped garlic
3 Tablespoons of olive oil
8 cups chopped tomatoes (fresh or canned)
1 cup onions, chopped
1/2 cup of fresh chopped parsley
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon of crushed red pepper
1/8 cup of fresh chopped sweet basil
Pinch of thyme
Pinch of rosemary
One teaspoon salt
One teaspoon black pepper

Directions

  1. Lightly saute the onions in olive oil in large pot for a few minutes.
  1. Add garlic and saute another minute.
  1. Add tomatoes and bring sauce to a boil, then turn heat low.
  1. Add remaining ingredients, stir, cover and let simmer for one hour, stirring occasionally.

Nope no aubergines in there. Oh well.

I am attempting to not get too excited. Had a show yesterday and been quite 'periody' since. Bump has dropped more too, I can almost get a full hand span between boobs and baby now. I know a show doesn't mean it is coming but it is the best sign my body has given so far that it might consider doing somthing about evicting the baby!

Stokey- Couldn't reach. Darn my stupidly short stubby fingers!

stokeymonkey · 06/01/2007 16:21

eeek! Indith! that sounds very, very promising!
I woke this morning feeling completely normal, no aches pains, cramps or gripes of any kind. I'm even in a good mood! How frustrating.
I called the ante-natal day-clinic to ask for another sweep, and they refused. Can't face doing it again myself, I'm way too squeamish! Was a bit gutted, but am just shrugging my shoulders now and trying to relax about the whole thing. Getting uptight is only going to make things worse..the blimmin thing will come when it's ready, and that's that.

And like I have the energy to make blimmin eggplant parmigiana! Reading that, delicious as it sounds, (thanks Jabba!) has just made me peckish and the only thing within arm's reach is bickies. Oops!!!

Anyway, Indith, sounds like you may be on your way at long last! Spare a thought for little old moi, languishing here all by myself!
Best of luck to you hon, will be thinking of you. x

Indith · 06/01/2007 16:55

Humph I don't know......

Another show this morning but felt totally normal this pm! Why oh why won't the baby come?

And how is it that the 2 of us who were last on the list now have induction dates looming? I am bricking it. Also really really want baby to come tonight as MIL and her DP coming up tom AGAIN and I simply cannot be arsed!

Devongirl · 06/01/2007 17:43

Hello

James Gabriel was born on 30th December, weighing 3lb 3.5oz, by a very traumatic labour - 12 hours of very strong contractions in a maternity unit, waters broke and were green with muconium, on the next examination I was still 4cm dilated (which I had been when I was admitted) and my focus went immediately negative from having worked together with DH so well for all that time, so I got transferred by ambulance (with blue light!) to the hospital 20 mins away where I had an epidural that I was totally against prior to labour, and a hormone drip to get things moving. We sat in the room for 4 hours watching the ECG and the little one's heart beat got very erratic towards the end. After the 4 hours, the next exam showed that I was STILL 4cm dilated and we were desperate by then, so he was born by CS. It felt like the worst day/days of our lives and DH and I were petrified by the end, but when we heard him scream it was still the best day of our lives anyway.

I stayed in hospital for 5 nights as he lost quite a lot of weight but we've got the feeding under control now I think and he's a smasher

Good luck to those still waiting - I really think they just come when they're ready and all the stuff we're told to do to bring on labour are just things to keep our minds occupied!

x

Indith · 06/01/2007 18:03

Congratulations Devon. I guess they have to come out somehow!

Devongirl · 06/01/2007 18:16

Thanks Indith - yes I know - I feel like I was pretty naive going into the labour, thinking it was all going to be the way I want it (even though I knew my birth plan was only a rough guide to how it would go ideally). It was just so scary at the time, and was going along the same pattern as my nephew's birth - and he was stillborn - so that put the fear into us for our son. But now he's here it all doesn't matter, and now I'm listening to DH sitting on the sofa with him looking at a black and white book and telling him all about the pictures and all that horrible stuff is forgotten. Someone I know was told by their midwife to write a birth plan, then screw it up and throw it away because it was pointless! and I think that is great advice!

x

Indith · 06/01/2007 18:48

Oh no don't say you were naive! We all want it to go the way we want, I think if we planned for the worst we would never do it! Ok so my birth plan is very basic, more of a 'take it as it comes' plan but I'm still just hoping to get my birth even as I creep closer to induction.

jabberwocky · 07/01/2007 03:59

So get your dh to make the dish stokey

ei24 · 07/01/2007 11:18

hi i just thought id pop on to wish all the overdue ladies good luck and to send some positive labour vibes to you all!! i was in the same boat last year and was the last in our due in dec group to give birth! i had my little girl on the 8th of jan 11 days over!! i feel you pain i really do but everything has its own time and im sure you all havent got too long left to wait til your holdin your lo's in your arms at last big hugs {{{{{{{{{}}}}}}}}}}}}

Indith · 07/01/2007 14:23

Thanks ei24! All labour vibes much needed!

Not a hint of a BH or anything else.

stokeymonkey · 07/01/2007 15:30

oh bloody hell Indith - was convinced you were about to pop!

Not quite sure yet, but I think I might be having contractions - going round sainsburys this morning I felt a huge pressure right down low that I'd not felt before, and getting home in the car I felt every single pothole in the road. Ouch!
Now it feels like someone keeps tightening an iron band round my lower bump, like a persistent period pain. it makes me gasp, lasts half a minute or so then fades for a few minutes. Still no show though, and no sign of waters going.
I've had so many 'is this it???' moments over the last few days I am unwilling to actually think this might be it just in case it isn't!
DH is sitting over there looking very worried , though knowing my luck this will all fade away in a while and I'll be left wondering what's going on!

ps well done Devongirl, sorry you had such a traumatic time. So glad you're all ok now though.
And thanks for your words of encouragement ei24. The end is almost in sight for both of us. I can feel it!!

Indith · 07/01/2007 16:22

Ooooh Good luck Stokey! Sounds good!

weirdbird · 07/01/2007 19:07

Wishing you all a safe, speedy, delivery soon
