Name Dilemma??

My due date was yesterday and we had picked Luke for the name but we hadn't told anyone as we like to wait until the little one is born before we tell. My sister in law called last night and said that they have picked Luke as the name for their ds to be born in April 07.

I emailed her and asked if they were set on that name as we had chosen it as well. She says yes, they want it, but that she 'appreciates we will be first past the post so she leaves it up to us'.

Aarghh! Dh is adamant we take the name anyway but I don't want there to be a family feud over it. What to do??

agree with enid....and even if you do name him luke and your SIL does name her boy luke..you will have done it first..so she can;t then get arsey with you ! i wouldn;t feud about it ! be flattered she likes the same name...

Sound advice - we'll scramble together some back up names and see what he looks like. I think Dh is so keen on Luke because he doesn't want ds to be named after my dad.

AS long as the middle names differ it should be OK_ presents can be labelled Luke J or Luke D, and Granparents can differentitate the same way. It should be OK.

Dh's mate kept calling to see of DS had arrived- thought he was being over keen tbh- turned out they'd like our choice of gitls name and were waiting to see if they could nick it LOL! Fortunately for them they could (bethany, but was pre corrie baby)

I agree with enid, might not look like a luke.
We had a list of names we went through and we couldn't decide before the birth and as soon as we saw him it was obvious.
A friend of mine had decided to call there son luke, told everyone and then after about 2 days decided on Kyle instead, he kept saying 'look Luke' and decided he didn't like it after all.
Difficult choice, I would probably give the name to them but if they have a girl or don't use Luke you would be gutted.
Hope you work it out.
