Hi ladies, can I have a moan please? I really want a home birth, - I'm low risk, no reason not to. I'm also moving mid July - not far (20 mins) but outwith my gps boundary. I can register with a new gp and get a new community midwife team, but unless the hospital linked to the new gp accepts me, I can't have my home birth as the midwives won't agree to deliver without the hospital accepting. My current gp midwife says that I'll be really lucky if the new hospital accepts me so late - 4 weeks before my edd as its such a busy maternity unit. So my option seems to be - change my gp when I move but stay with my current gp linked hospital - no homebirth. Or try my luck with the new place, and hope they can accept me. I can transfer now (if they accept me) but the new hospital is a pain to get too (im not driving at the mo, and i work in my current booked hospital-so its really easy for appointments) Why can't I have the new gp community midwives delivering at home, and if needed my original hospital? They're really close!!! I dont want to be worrying where/how and with whom I'm going to be giving birth 4 weeks before im due. Im not getting my home birth am I??Sad Sorry for the moan, but really had my heart set on it. I know that things can change and I might not have one anyway, but I'd at least like to of tried. Sad

Suziesome1 · 05/03/2016 07:53

That sounded really poor me! Its not that bad, I'm just disappointed, as long as the baby and I are both safe, then that's the main thing Smile

BergamotMouse · 05/03/2016 08:04

Hello all, I posted right at the beginning of this thread but got hyperemesis so have been laying low until now. I've been keeping up with the updates and thought I'd rejoin.

Loving seeing everyone's bump pics. I've attached mine. I'm the opposite dileas and worried my bump is too small. It gets bigger through the day but took a photo this morning and if anything it's been getting smaller. Im feeling movement though so guessing all is ok in there.

How's everyone doing weight gain wise? I was pretty much following the recommended gain but in the last few weeks I'm way exceeding it (2lbs a week!!). Not eating anymore than usual so assume it's what my body needs to do.

Anyway, lovely to rejoin!

I dread to think how much weight I've put on. I normally eat healthily, but I've been so hungry since getting pg and wanting to eat so much rubbish. It's my third as well, so I've been in maternity trousers for a few weeks now. I get a bit funny about my weight, so it's better if I don't weigh myself tbh. I'll do a bump pic later once I'm dressed!

hgleslie89 · 05/03/2016 10:45

I've put on maybe 3lb in the 9 weeks since my booking appointment. That was just after Christmas and I was at the top end of healthy weight for my height, so I'm not worrying too much about not having put on a huge amount. That said, I'm the heaviest I've been since I was about 15 (when I made a concerted effort to lose a couple of stone), so it is weird seeing the numbers on the scale creeping up.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 05/03/2016 10:56

Suzie do you have midwife appts at the hospital as well or just scans? If just scans you could wait til after 20w scan and then transfer hospitals? I know how you feel as am in a similar situation. I don't know how it works in the trust we're moving to, but tbh if necessary I was thinking of taking the 'stubborn bitch' route, digging my heels in and basically insisting on getting what I want. I won't have any friends on the mw team, but I'm not hugely fussed about that. Midwives have a legal requirement to provide care, so there's that to bear in mind too. In your position I'd be inclined to move, then kick up such a fuss with the hospital that they sort it just to get you off their backs. Unless you can move any earlier?? Good luck with it all anyway!
Mouse hi, lovely to see you back, I remember you having a bad time with the sickness. Sounds like you've had a rough ride, are you feeling any better now?? Weight wise I think I've gained about half a stone up to now, which is about right I think. With DD I gained 5lbs up to 20 weeks, then about another 15lbs up to delivery! So I think I just lay it down later, am fully expecting the same thing to happen this time. I'm eating plenty, have tried to swap to healthier choices now I'm feeling ok, but not worrying too much about it all! Oh and your bump looks lovely, you've obviously just got good stomach muscles holding everything in Wink
Dileas I bet your bump is fab too, second babies definitely make a big difference! I'm the last of my friends to have a second baby and they all popped really early and were huge, then stayed the same size for ages while the babies grew into them, if that makes sense. Looking after 4 extra people sounds knackering, hope you've got a weekend of chilling out ahead - you've earned it!

Fab bump pics! I'm really obviously pregnant at 19 weeks exactly. I don't mind getting bigger, I will have had 2 babies in 19 months when this ones born and I'm 36 so I'm not going to worry about my size until afterwards! Then I will go on a carb free diet and slim down (hopefully)!

Suzie that's gutting! Having the right birth is important and if you have your heart set on a home birth then it's a shame if you can't do it! Can't you insist?! Confused I think you're brave anyway! Last pregnancy part of me wanted to have the baby at home but I didn't have the guts! Ended up having a planned section! Grin it was perfect for me though, so that's all that matters. This baby will also be planned section.

I've been obsessing with girls names for ages (boy is set as had name sorted for last baby who was a girl) but girl names have been a nightmare! Whatever names I've suggested on here have now completely changed! Anyone else struggling or obsessing with names? I find out the sex 2 weeks on Tuesday! Smile

Sophia1984 · 05/03/2016 14:21

Jw35 I can think of so, so many girl names I like, but am stumped when it comes to boy names! Am wondering if this is a sign..

Christinedonna · 05/03/2016 15:02

Went shopping with my dad today to look at the buggy and he brought it for us! So happy, feel like a massive weight has been lifted and we know have basically everything (apart from the cot) sorted!

peardrop2 · 05/03/2016 17:34

Hello lovely August ladies! I'm sorry to join so late in the day but...I was on the September thread and it appears that A) my scan date has been moved to the end of August and B) they've turned out to be quite an alternative bunch (will explain more later). Could I possibly join you? I've read your most recent comments and it's made me so happy to hear you talk about your growing bumps, gender, shopping, coconut oil and food etc etc.

Unfortunately even though I started the September thread it hasn't been the group I had hoped to be amongst. There has been a very high case of MC, mainly because the group is ridiculously large and because of this all that is really discussed is around sad subjects. I really really totally understand that people need to talk about anxiety but I also want to talk about all the happy things that you've all been enjoying discussing. I should have been suspicious at the start as I once mentioned how great my Doppler was at the beginning of my pregnancy and I was totally shot down for having my own opinion and sharing my experience which was a bit strange to say the least. Anyway, now that I my date has changed I hope I can join you?

A bit about me. I had a great career working crazy long hours in return for a lovely big wage packet. Had my son nearly 3 years a go, fell in love with my son and couldn't look back so for now I'm a very happy SAHM. This will be my second child. Took a long time to conceive no2 much longer then planned so we're so happy and grateful. I will have a 3+ age gap between the two. Would have loved a smaller gap but it wasn't meant to be so that's fine and I've accepted that now. I'm 15 weeks on Monday. The weirdest thing about this pregnancy is I can never decide what my tastes buds want! If I go out to eat I always order the wrong thing and if I buy something in the shops I have to buy several choices. Like today, we wanted a dessert so I had to buy Victoria sponge, chocolate mousses the low fat version without egg and chocolate eclairs. When I got home it was the sponge I wanted. This is alien to me as normally I'm great at knowing what I want! Anyone else experiencing this? I have no real cravings but if I eat fruit it tastes amazingly juicy and a burst of flavour...also new to me Smile

I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend?

hgleslie89 · 05/03/2016 18:06

Hi pear, great to have you here! Sorry to hear the September group have been having troubles.

Got my BIL, SIL, niece (3 1/2) and nephew (19 months) round at the moment. Little one can clearly sense the craziness and is going nuts!

BergamotMouse · 05/03/2016 18:25

Hi again glencoco. I'm feeling so much better now thanks. Still occasionally sick but can feel completely fine straight afterwards.

Names wise we have about 3 boys names we love and would happily choose any but really struggling to agree on a girls name. And I have a real feeling it's probably a girl.

What buggy did you go for Christine? It's so nice of your dad to buy it for you. I was thinking of getting the Joolz Geo but think it's just too big for my tiny boot. So now considering the baby jogger city mini (much more practical option but sad that it doesn't parent face.

I'm going to the baby show in Manchester next weekend so hoping to pick up a bargain there (if I can make up my mind).

OwlinaTree · 05/03/2016 18:33

Sophia it's probably a sign you are having a boy Wink

OwlinaTree · 05/03/2016 18:36

We went to the baby show mouse and it was really useful for looking at all the different buggies. We ended up with the oyster. We wanted a Phil and Ted's because you could convert it to a double and the seat turned into bassinet so you didn't need to buy two bits. However it wouldn't fit in our boot (corsa). Oyster is smaller, fits in a corsa boot anyway.

OwlinaTree · 05/03/2016 18:39

Had the 2 year old's birthday party today. 7 other children and assorted parents here at the house. It went really well actually, but shattered. I'm feeling so happy, at one point we didn't think we'd ever have a child, now we are celebrating a 2nd birthday and another one on the way. Smile

Biscuitswithtea · 05/03/2016 19:19

Evening all :) Sorry been awol for a wee while - we were away on hol this wk and a series of dull but time consuming dramas (leaky heating system anyone??) the wk before have kept me busy!

Those with children already, have you all told them about there being a new baby? We haven't deliberately done so yet, though also not hiding it from DS (he's three in June). The next scan is in two and a bit wks so assuming that's straight forward, I wondered about just saying to DS that there's a baby in mummy's tummy and leaving it at that for a bit. He likes to take his time to process stuff and his concept of waiting for stuff is still iffy...

strandedabroad · 05/03/2016 19:35

Hi Pear, welcome!

We had friends over for lunch today and showed them the scan picture. Their 20-month old boy pointed and said 'Baby' and then, completely unprompted, said 'Girl'!

That's it then, it doesn't get much more accurate than that!! Grin

peardrop2 · 05/03/2016 21:10

Thanks hgl and strand for the welcome!

Strand - that's so funny. He's got a 50% chance of being right hey Grin Do you have any gut feelings yourself? I knew straight away that my dS was a boy but with this one I'm totally thrown as the pregnancy is so different and I'm trying not to let that sway my feelings but it's hard!

Biscuit - I told dS quite quickly because he enjoys "rough and tumble" games sometimes a bit too much so we needed to tone that down a bit! I wasn't sure how he would take it or even if he would understand but he totally got it. I was very surprised considering he's only just started saying full sentences. He's very excited and talks about the baby everyday. I don't bring the subject up at all but I let him ask his daily questions like "is the baby eating mummy's porridge?" "is the baby going to play now too?" And then I'll often change the subject so that it's more of a natural conversation and not just baby, baby, baby all the time if that makes sense. It's working well for us because he likes to be gently prepared in this way when a change has happened in the past, like when he slept at his grandparents house for the first time etc.

Owl - That's really lovely that you feel that appreciation. I can understand why you would be even more appreciative of what you've got. Birthdays are such happy milestones to take stock and be thankful aren't they Smile

Bergman - what's making you think it's a girl out of interest? Is this your first baby show? I loved going to the London baby show last time. It was just lovely to be surrounded by a baby cocoon even though I had to avoid lots of hard sale. I also got to see so much. We got a great deal on our nursery furniture and a car seat. I hope you enjoy Manchester!

LetMeBakeCake · 05/03/2016 21:25

Hello everyone I've come to join the club if that's ok? :-)
Baby due 30th August (although I'm hoping it will come 2 days late as can't bear the thought of sending a 4 year old off to school!)
I have a 3.5 year old DS who we told after having 12 week scan :)
Was WAY more nervous this time around - I think it's because we got pregnant 1st month of trying with DS but this time took almost a year... Feeling a bit more relaxed following the scan though and started to feel way better this last week in myself :)
Hows everyone doing? I'm excited but so dreading the sleepless nights... !

BergamotMouse · 06/03/2016 08:14

Hi pear. My girl prediction comes from that I was so sick to start with and that the heart rate was 156bpm at the 16 week appointment. I've heard if it's above 140 it's more likely to be a girl. All old wives tales though. We're not going to find out so 21 weeks until we know if we're right.

It is my first baby show. I'm hoping it's not stressful. The main thing I want is the buggy, I'm going to consider the oyster after Owlina's recommendation. I really like the Boori nursery furniture but it's so expensive. Am planning on bidding on a cheap ikea cot for our room on eBay (want to turn it into a side sleeper) so I can have the nursery all set up for the 6 months they are in with us.

Welcome cake. Glad you're starting to feel better. The first trimester is grim! I've had a bad nights sleep last night and woke up with a headache - dreading the sleepless nights too as they'll be a million times worse!

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 06/03/2016 08:29

cake and pear welcome! We are always happy to see new faces around here. I've found everybody to be a lovely bunch, supportive and positive.
mouse nice to see you back! Glad you seem to be over the worst of it!
suzie I would try what coco has suggested and move after the 20 week scan. Ask to speak to the supervisor of midwives and say you want a home birth - how are they going to make this happen for you.

I've also come on to tell you guys that I caved yesterday and agreed with my husband to get a gender scan! We got squeezed in last minute and the scan was amazing! The detail was so clear, bubba was moving so much and we could see hands, feet, all the bones of the spine! Mind blowing. We also found out we are having a baby girl!! Seems we are a girl thread so far?!

Now we need to come up with some names as we only had boys ones lined up. Smile

FourForYouGlenCoco · 06/03/2016 09:23

Alfie congratulations!! A little girl, lovely! Scan sounds amazing too - unbelievable how quickly they grow!
We do seem to be heavy on the girls. We had a few boy bumps that seem to have gone a bit AWOL though I think.
cake and pear welcome and congrats! Lovely to have you here. pear I had a little nose on the sept group and see what you mean. It's so busy on there! We had our fair share of sad news at the start, and I'm sorry to say I probably freaked everyone out a bit panicking, but now we're all well past our 12w scans it's pretty relaxed round here.
Oh and speaking of coconut oil - can't remember who recommended it, sorry, but THANK YOU!! It's bloody amazing and I smell like a Bounty chocolate bar - winning all round Grin
Owl lovely post! Glad you're feeling so positive/appreciative. And happy birthday to your little one! You're a brave lady having that many children round at once, bet you're wiped out today!
Biscuit I told DD at 11w as she is quite boisterous and bouncy and prone to jumping all over me. She's very excited and talk about baby a lot, but is waiting very well! I am quite 'full disclosure' with her though - told her about last MC as well (had stupidly told her I was pg at about 7w) and she handled that fine.

Really struggling with names here, we have a shortlist of girls and boys but no closer to any actual decisions. We can't agree on a boy's name for love nor money! We're not finding out what we're having so have a long time to wait. 20w scan Friday coming, slightly apprehensive (it is to check for problems after all!) but mostly just really excited Smile can't wait to see how much baby's grown!

OP posts:
LetMeBakeCake · 06/03/2016 09:33

I'm pretty confident I'll be having a boy! My husbands family only ever seem to have boys so I'd be really shocked if it was a girl!

I can't wait to find out for sure - is everyone finding out? Think we might keep if a secret from everyone else this time.

Pretty sure we have our names picked out already....!

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 06/03/2016 09:40

cake we are keeping it to ourselves just now. Nice to have a www secret!

Biscuitswithtea · 06/03/2016 11:32

Thanks :) Sounds like the right time to tell dcs about a baby is when it feels right. I like your idea Pear of keeping it as natural as possible. DS can be slow to adjust to change so think we'll be making as many changes as possible before this baby comes (new bedroom, buggy board for pram etc) There will be more than enough for him to adjust to in August without adding extras to that list!

I'm ploughing through moisturiser this now otherwise I'm so dry and itchy. Have just ordered some Weleda stuff so hopefully that will do the trick.

Am broken this am. DS was up for a fair chunk of the night with earache. He finally resettled c6.30 and slept til after 10am thank goodness. But yaaaaawn!!!
