Is anyone else having to move house because of baby?
I am.
We've lived in our lovely flat for 17 years so it's pretty stressful for me! We're only going to rent but it seems like we've seen hundreds, such a high demand for rentals in the south east it seems.
Saw a lovely place online and spoke to landlady who seemed to really like us so fingers crossed!

lilygirl81 · 14/02/2016 00:13

Fizzy fingers crossed for your move. We only bought our flat last year, tiny 1 bedroom, but think we will be ok until the baby is at least 18 months.

I scared DH today, I got a call to tell me my favourite uncle has oesophageal cancer, and that there are growth/developmental concerns with my sister's twins (may need to be delivered at 30 weeks). I couldn't stop crying, DH came in and just hugged me until I could tell him. Turns out he had paid attention when I told him the lab would call if our Down's test was high risk, and thought that was the call I had got, and I was about to tell him there was a problem with our baby!

I remember someone posted a good app for doing pelvic floor exercises, but I can't find the name, can anyone remind me?

Dileas29 · 14/02/2016 07:50

lily re sleep I'm waking at 3am most mornings having to listen to world news on my earphones to drift off lol then DD wakes 6-7am so quite exhausting.anyone having vivid dreams too? I think this is part of the reason I'm waking!

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 14/02/2016 11:54

Ladies Ive just had my Down's syndrome risk back. It's 1:2407 which I much higher than I was expecting. I thought given my age, weight and first any I would get something over 10,000.
I'm really anxious about this even though it's classed as low risk. Anybody have any words of wisdom? Those who had the harmony did it soothe your fears? My husband says it's fine and we don't need to worry but I can't help it. Be gentle I'm feeling a bit fragile!

Christinedonna · 14/02/2016 11:56

With you on the no sleeping front. I can't sleep until 4 or 5 ish then the OH is up at 7 so running on next to nothing! Feel like I've got a bit of a bug although it's hard to tell when I've still got morning sickness. My belly hurts at night and my heads pounding. Could have done with loads of chocolate today but the OH got me some I don't like so he could have them, sod! Beautiful flowers but I can't eat them.

Biscuitswithtea · 14/02/2016 15:33

How old are you Alfie?

To be honest, those odds are still brilliant. The way I see it, you wouldn't put money on it would you?

Ours came back at c1:3700. Which is also good. I can't remember what ds's odds were, but they were a bit better than these but not massively (ie not tens of thousands that we read others getting). I'll be 35 by the time this one is born, DH is 10yrs older than me so I'm pleased with what we got.

Sometimes I wish they just said low risk, and didn't state the odds. It just becomes another worry!

quitecrunchy · 14/02/2016 15:58

Hi Alfie, try not to be worried - that's a really good result! Given the cut off for low risk is 1:150 that must still be a VERY low risk. For me it wouldn't be high enough risk to decide to go for the harmony test but if you're very anxious about it and it won't break the bank then maybe it's worth it for your peace of mind. One question though - how would you feel if you did the Harmony and it came back with a similar number? Would it change anything?

Lily sorry about your upsetting news. Hope all goes well for your uncle and your sister and her babies.

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 14/02/2016 17:56

I'm 27 which is why I was a by surprised, my friend who is a year older got 1.14000 which is more what I was expecting. It's really hard to say crunchy I think I would have an amino before I could make that decision but I have always said I wouldn't continue with a trisomy pregnancy. But that's just me, I know others would.

lily I didn't mean to skip over your post before - I was preoccupied. Really sorry to hear your bad news.

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 14/02/2016 18:01

biscuits afterwards I wish I had just got my husband to open the letter and tell me it was low risk but not the number as I feel like I can't stop obsessing over it!

M2B816 · 14/02/2016 18:01

Did my first day skiing today and took it easy. Very exhausting though but glad I did some great exercise. Question though, how can we tell if baby is or has been distressed? I can feel a little bit more movement than usual today after a long day. 13+4 today.

LotsofDots · 14/02/2016 19:06

The results we get in Scotland just say 'low chance' with no odds given. Perhaps this is to prevent undue worry - those odds are very favourable alfie so I'd try and take them as a good result! I have a friend who had odds of 1:3 in her first pregnancy. Her daughter is one of the 2:3 who is perfect with those odds.

lily sorry to hear about your family news, I hope that your sister and uncle are doing ok.

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 14/02/2016 20:40

lotsofdots I'm in Aberdeen so it must be different across Scotland. I know, I'm just an anxious person naturally so it feels scary.

Sophia1984 · 14/02/2016 22:52

Fizzy We're thinking of buying a flat, so am feeling ridiculously anxious about whether we can get a mortgage. Also having to rehome our pet bird as we won't be able to give him the love and attention he needs (and he makes so much mess) and am worrying over how much maternity leave I can afford to take, so am massively stressing out! Brilliant that you seem to have found a nice landlady and place :-)

Suziesome1 · 15/02/2016 11:34

Possibly a daft question, but do the babies go through growth spurts? I had an early reassurance scan (due to prev mc) and was dated 13/8. Had my NHS one and was dated 14/8, had another reassurance scan (took my mum and g-ma, was in Aberdeen-super cheap!) and was dated 8/8. Not that it matters, I know its just estimated dates, but was just wondering.....

Christinedonna · 15/02/2016 11:44

suzie i don't have an answer to your question sorry, but that reminds me of something I've been thinking about. Your baby is dated by measurements. If it's a certain length then it's this old..but what if you just had a big or small baby. Who's to say all babies are exactly this many cms at this age?

Biscuitswithtea · 15/02/2016 11:54

It's always struck me as a bit bonkers, the measuring thing. Especially since a millimetre here or there makes a difference to the date they give.
This time (which I liked) the sonographer said 'oh I'll be changing your date to be further forward. The baby is doing x which is what you expect to see in 13+ wks. Then when she measured, the measurements fitted with what she could see.

DS was 50th centile when born. And has been below the 9th forever more since he was 3-4m old. Friends who had smaller babies at birth now have children who are consistently bigger.

So yes, I think babies grow at different rates. The best they can do is use averages.

Suziesome1 · 15/02/2016 11:56

That's a good point, maybe they've worked out the average size/length and just go by that, which is prob why its just an edd. I know its only a few days difference, but its the difference of 14+1 or 15+0. Means a lot to me!

Suziesome1 · 15/02/2016 11:57

Oops, sorry xp!

hgleslie89 · 15/02/2016 13:04

suzie I think they do. They definitely put on a lot of weight in a short time - I think between 10 and 20 weeks a baby's weight goes from about 30g to about 300g.

christine my Dorling Kindersley pregnancy day by day book says basically every baby is the same size until 20 weeks. It's only after that that difference start to show.

Also, I was quit small at birth (6lb 1oz), got bigger fairly quickly and and now 5'8". So a baby that's little when it's born won't necessarily stay that way!

strandedabroad · 15/02/2016 13:29

Suzie that baffled me too. At my first scan my dates were moved forward by a week. That's a big difference! But I know my dates and I know when we conceived. So I'm taking my EDD with a pinch of salt!

Alfie, I'm thinking of you. That was my rationale for having the Harmony - I didn't want to worry unnecessarily in case the combined test was low risk but not low enough for me to relax about it. But that's just me. If a Harmony won't break the bank, you could do it. But your odds are certainly good IMHO.

Clarab0w · 15/02/2016 14:42

lilygirl, the app is called 'PFEI Kegel Trainer' i think - it's great! (I think, will only really find out when it comes to the crunch, i guess!)

suzie, i'm not sure about growth spurts, but i do know that measurements can vary quite significantly based on how the baby is lying - i had my dates moved back a couple of days, and then forward after all, in the same scan, just because the baby changed angle and stretched out a little bit! i think after the first tri (when every mm is critical) it's a bit more hazy...

alfie, i had the same thing after getting results of 1:1500 - i was thrilled until reading that people on here were getting 1:50000! but just keep reminding yourself that they consider anything over 1:150 so low risk as to actually call it 'screen negative' - so please don't tie yourself up in knots if you can help it.

question: anyone else ever have a wonky uterus?! when i woke up yesterday i could really feel my uterus (16 weeks and it seems to have suddenly ejected up out of my pelvis!) - but it was definitely angling off to the left! i checked again last night and it was the same again. this morning it seems to be a bit more centred but was a bit weird!

MrsZumbaDancer · 15/02/2016 14:52

I think they do grow at different rates. In my first pregnancy I had a scan at 8 weeks and given an edd, at my 12 week scan they thought that was a few days out but wouldn't change the due date due to babies growing at different rates..

My odds this time are 1 in 50,000, with my DS is was 1 in 17500 and i'm 2 years older now (35). I don't know how its calculated but I know ds1 nuchal fold measured higher than this one so maybe that has more bearing on result?

bearhuggy · 15/02/2016 15:46

Hello everyone, hope you all had nice weekends!

Welcome to dots and anyone else I may have missed.

lily sorry to hear news on your sister and uncle. Sending you good vibes and hope they are doing ok. Great to hear your sickness is finally subsiding! I have also been sleeping pretty erratically for a good few weeks now, waking about 3 times for the loo and then struggling to get back to sleep after the 5am trip. Dreams also vivid and hard to tell whether I am awake or asleep sometimes Hmm

alfie try not to get too worked up, it is still negative low risk and a good result, I wouldn't personally be worried but if you are concerned then definitely call your midwife for some reassurance and to talk through. Was your scan all normal e.g nasal bone present / NT fold measurement?

fizzy we have just sold our house and our offer is going through at present for a new place, it needs work doing so not sure what stage we are going to be by the time baby is here, so feel your stresses!! I am trying to remain calm and leave it all with the husband...he's a property developer by trade and assures me it's the right move. eeek!

silver H&M maternity jeans are heaven...I have been wearing mine for a few weeks now and so so comfy.

M2B glad skiing is fun! I am not sure what you mean about distressed baby? Do you think you are feeling more movement now and are worried about it?

Clara - my uterus is exactly the same but to my right when looking down. It's so weird !! More prominent in the morning and its a real firm lump now which kind of moves around during the day. Have read it's normal and will go away as baby grows and fills the space more.

Got my 16 week GP appointment tonight, has anyone had theirs yet, what should I expect? Do I need to take a pee sample?!

TwistInMySobriety · 15/02/2016 16:36

alfie 1/2000 is, what, 0.002% chance of a problem. I was 1/150 and that was still over 99% chance everything was fine. I wouldn't have an amnio in your circumstances as the risk of inducing a miscarriage is much higher than your risk of trisomy. We had the Harmony as our risk level was borderline high but in your shoes I think there are other things you could use that money for.

hgleslie89 · 15/02/2016 17:31

Anybody else not really gained weight yet? Since my booking appointment around 10 weeks (I'm 16+2 now) my weight has only changed by a couple of hundred grams. Granted the appointment was after Christmas, the weight I was then was the top end of healthy for my height and I have changed size (in maternity clothes now), but I don't know whether I should be concerned?
