It's both your responsibility lily don't blame yourself. It will work out, it always does. I'm sure there are things you spend on now that you can cut back on? You'll be fine

lilygirl81 · 28/01/2016 13:24

Christine thanks, we currently send our dog to daycare, so that's going to stop so we can save up a bit more, but not much else we can stop.

I'm hoping my benefits might get increased since my mobility is worse than it was before, and I've a claim going on at the moment against the NHS, so if that is successful it would help too. It's a long story, but basically they misdiagnosed me, treated me and left me disabled, so while I'd never normally sue, it did totally change my life, and has cost me so much in getting to a point I can leave the house

I think I really need to speak to my work and try to get a deal for more maternity pay.

hgleslie89 · 28/01/2016 13:30

Wee bit of a bump going on here (13+5).
Hugs Lily, I'm sure things will work out.
Started to look at baby stuff and nursery ideas. We're in a new build so not sure whether we'll be able to re-paint quite yet but it's nice to get ideas.

lily try not to worry, everything will sort itself and as christine said, its not just your responsibility but the pair of you together.

I recommend calling Citizens Advice who will be able to talk everything through with you and explain what you may be entitled to and the best course of action - 03444 111 444

I believe the Job Centre also offer a similar service and should give you good advice based on earnings. There are lots of services out there available to help you and you have enough time between now and baby to put a plan into place.

This could be a good read - moneyaware.co.uk/2012/09/having-a-baby-dont-let-money-worries-get-in-the-way/

Sophia1984 · 28/01/2016 13:45

Hi lily Try not to worry petal. I'm not the most financially stable of people. I earn a decent wage but we have more going out than coming in. I get 6 weeks at full pay, then another 6 weeks at 50% which we couldn't manage on so I'll be going back to work after I've taken 5 weeks holiday. DP will be looking after baby after that. Would that be an option for you? Or could you go back part-time and share childcare with him? Not sure what job you do, but is there any extra work you can do as a freelance in the next few months in the evenings/weekends? I've got some consultancy work from an old employer to save up a little bit more. It might sound silly but I am also entering lots of competitions on the Moneysavingexpert boards in the hopes of winning some stuff! It will all be fine - there's never a perfect financial time to have a baby.

lilygirl81 · 28/01/2016 13:59

You guys have me in tears, you are amazing. I work in finance, so not sure what I can do freelance, but will have a think. I'm sadly not fully qualified as an accountant, but I could maybe see about helping some friends with their accounts, could get a little in that way (I'm 2 exams away from being qualified, sitting one of them in June)

I'll try and speak to CAB, and thanks for the links.

Christinedonna · 28/01/2016 14:05

Does anyone know about benefits? Are you entitled to anything when living with parents? My dads renovating the house to accommodate us staying for aslong as we need. I only work 14 hours a week and I know that everyone's entitled to child tax credit, and working tax credit if as a couple we work over 20something hours a week (my OH works about 45)..but don't know if living at home will stop us claiming anything

Colabottle10 · 28/01/2016 15:48

Hi all - finally found the new thread.

I've had my booking in appointment and I'm under shared care because of a family history of DVT so been told I'll have daily injections from 28 weeks. My BMI is high too - the last 10weeks I've eaten anything and everything to try and combat this horrendous sickness. I've had 4 days of respite where I felt almost normal but it's back now and spent yesterday and today on the sofa in my PJs feeling very sorry for myself.

Also had a call from Drs to drop in another urine sample as the one I gave to the midwife was 'damaged in transit' whatever that means. Need to pick up a bottle before I can drop a sample in. Also had to go back in to have another batch of bloods done as the first one that was sent for specific test wasn't done right, so feeling like a pin cushion. Also waiting for the results to come back as that has an impact on the pregnancy care....

Got scan booked for Feb 11th, seems ages away really.

Somnambulator · 28/01/2016 16:04

Loving all the bump photos!!

bear your photo of the baby chilling out really made me chuckle too.

clara not yet booked in to any nct classes, have you?

I think my body has finally given a sign to slow down, after working nights in a&e and doing a one day round trip for an interview in Edinburgh, I woke up this morning with shingles. Right on my ruddy forehead.

bearhuggy · 28/01/2016 16:46

christine I really don't know how benefits work so I would contact the CAB and talk to them, or have a read online as lots of information here - www.citizensadvice.org.uk/

lily def have a chat to someone who knows all the ins and outs, there must be help for you if needed as sounds like you have been through it, once you make a plan you will feel better I am sure.

Haha thanks som, really made me chuckle this morning when I spotted it! Sorry you are feeling a bit run down...any chance you can take a couple of days off to recoup??

clara and som - I am booked in with Jessica James - www.jessicabirthclasses.co.uk/ she comes highly recommended and I am combining with the yoga too which should be nice. I contacted the Hackney NCT and got info on the classes at St Luke's, they do 4 sessions and they are all on a weekend (12 - 6pm) which I didn't find very convenient! Also found this club which looks great bumpandbabyclub.com/ think I will attend some of their events a bit nearer the time :)

hgleslie89 · 28/01/2016 17:26

Just made my first baby purchase! Danger Mouse onesie and bib from Mothercare Grin

Somnambulator · 28/01/2016 17:38

Will definitely have a look at those nct classes. I like the idea of pregnancy yoga also. Think there is a place opposite me that offers it too. Unfortunately I think Wednesday's will not suit DH.

Luckily I have been signed off for 10 whole days. Can't have me being around children and pregnant ladies in my condition, ironic really!

FourForYouGlenCoco · 28/01/2016 18:26

Oh no Som!! You poor thing. 10 days of chilling out for you! Hope the shingles clears up soon, I've heard it can be really horrible Sad
Cola glad you found us, sounds like you've been through the wringer a bit. Hopefully that's the last of the prodding and poking (til 28 weeks at least!). The days will fly by til 11/02, it'll be here in no time.
lily sorry you're so worried. It looks like you've had some good advice, I've not much to add but have a Brew and some Cake. You've got lots of time to figure it all out still. This might be naive and optimistic, but in my experience things tend to work out one way or another.

Definitely some bump happening here too! Already feel pretty enormous, I was this size at 18 weeks with DD. I can't wait to actually look pregnant and not just chubby. I keep sticking the 'bump' out and rubbing it so people can tell and none of it is from my giant lunch, no, absolutely not

Anyone else still feeling sick in the second trimester? I'm 13 weeks today and I wake up feeling ok but my mid-afternoon I feel so nauseous and I can't eat a thing without wanting to puke :-(

Bought my first maternity wear today - blue cord skirt and wrap dress from Jojomamambebe sale - £19 for both!

Mslg · 28/01/2016 20:31

Sophia bargain! I bought maternity stuff in the Jan sales, asos and DP did a really good sale this year.
I'm still feeling nauseous, it was there most of today but didn't vomit thank god.

leslie how exciting! I almost bought something online a week ago but stopped myself. Now I've had my scan maybe I'll let go of some of the anxiety and let myself get some stuff!

lilygirl81 · 28/01/2016 20:46

Sophia I'm still nauseous too, I'm told week 16 is another common time for it to go away.

14 weeks today

quitecrunchy · 28/01/2016 22:35

Nice bumps ladies! I have a feeling I'll start showing much later than you guys, I've got a bit more existing chub for bump to force its way past!

Looking forward to a night in with the girls tomorrow. Thought I might be able to just about get away with not drinking as I'll take the car, but I'm now told that the food planned for the evening consists mainly of brie and salami! No idea how I'm going to get away with this one without them guessing, so wish me luck!

10+0

Dileas29 · 29/01/2016 07:02

lilygirl I hope the finance situation doesn't stress you out too much. Such a rotten feeling. If you are able to breastfeed you will save a good amount and Aldi nappies are cheap and great. Hopefully all works out but I feel your pain.
Lots of lovely bumps out there!
13+1 and feeling the bulge! Although I did have a Chinese last night which wouldn't have helped (must get a grip of the diet)
Excuse morning tooth brushing pose

Mrs1986 · 29/01/2016 07:11

Lily I saw in Martin Lewis the other day that 9/10 people don't regularly shop around for the best deals on TV, Internet, Gas, Electric etc. He said most people could save like 300 a year if they shopped around for better deals! I guess every little helps!
A friend of mine makes money from this card company. Basically, it's a catalogue that you give round to your friends and get them to buy their cards in bulk. The cards are actually about 50-70% cheaper than the shops so it's a good deal for the buyers, and she makes commission on the sales. It's dead dead easy! Let me find out the name of the company for you! X

Salene · 29/01/2016 07:40

Got my harmony results back late last night all is good so please

I think I've got gender disappointment and feel really guilty

I have a 16 month little boy and the baby is a boy , I was hoping for a girl so I had one of each. I feel so selfish I should be great full all is healthy

I know two wee boys is great as they will play etc well but I still can't help feeling a tiny bit of disappointment

I think I need to give myself a slap Hmm

Mrs1986 · 29/01/2016 07:46

Ahh Salene, you can't help how you feel! I imagine many of us would feel similar - and probably it's the kind of thing no one admits!!
I am obviously hoping my twins are one of each too!

Lily - it's called Pheonix Cards xx

Salene · 29/01/2016 07:52

Thanks I know I'm just being stupid we had also agreed no more after this but now I think hmmmm we'll never say never

I can see us ending up with 3 boys 😂

The main thing is of course having a healthy baby , I have my 12 week NHS scan today so hoping all is well. My silly feeling will pass in a day or so hopefully. I wanted a girl first time round but couldn't imagine my wee boy being a girl now, he is amazing and such a cheeky monkey. Little boys do rock, and with two of them our house will never be quiet 😂

Jw35 · 29/01/2016 08:16

Salene just think you can re use all the boy stuff, pass on clothes and save a fortune! Thy can play boys games together and will have a friend for life!

I desperately want a boy, I've got 2 girls and the youngest is 13 months. However I know if it's a girl the 19 month age gap will be great in terms of playing together! I can also reuse her lovely monsoon dresses Smile

I can't help it though..I'd love a boy to complete my family!

Mrs1986 · 29/01/2016 09:02

I am the eldest of four girls! My parents had three girls, and tried for a boy when I was 12! What will be will be, and however it turns out, you'd never change it! So don't feel bad about being disappointed, it will be short lived! Xxx

Mslg · 29/01/2016 10:07

Everyone is my family is convinced I'm having a boy. I'll be delighted with either but if I'm honest, I would love a little girl for my first!

I have a question to ask you guys. I have a friend who gave birth to a very sick baby last year who very sadly passed away after a month and she's struggling to conceive again. There's no risk of bumping into her as we don't live close but I don't want to arrange a meeting with her and show up and maybe it being obvious I'm pregnant.

Would you just tell your news in a message so she has time to process it on her own?
