Well we were TTC but now we've graduated to growing a small human. Good buy peeing on opk's and ic's every day hello monitoring exactly how sick and bloated we feel and ensuring that we're never more than 30ft from a bathroom!

It's the TTC#1 graduates thread! Come and join us on a no holds barred exploration of first time pregnancy (but be really careful about opening any links about cervical fluid unless you have a very strong constitution... Let's face it you're pregnant so you don't)

Oh Bunch that sounds exhausting. I hope you're feeling less mental teary now Wink sometimes you just need a good cry.

I've got my midwife appointment at 9am tomorrow. Half looking forward to it. Half worried because I need to walk to the dr and back and survive an hour and a half without puking on her I imagine it wouldn't be the worse thing a pregnant woman has ever done to her

Mum seemed a tiny bit brighter today and apparently walked a little way yesterday but she still isn't eating or doing anything without prompting. She's now pitching a fit if they try to do bloods as well. I don't think I can get up there tomorrow and apparently the only time she eats is when I choose her food and sit and prompt her to eat it. The nurse even tried telling her that I would be cross if she didn't eat but it didn't work.
I can only assume that it's all mental now as she's capable she's just blank.

Massively underwhelmed by my midwife.
She was obviously used to dealing with 16 year old smokers who don't know who the dad is and she seemed incapable of deviating from her little tick box sheet Hmm
She spent the entire time talking to me in a squeaky high pitched voice which was getting on my nerves and she was missing the family history page so if I hadn't offered up the information she wouldn't have known I am at high risk from diabetes.
Also I have to go back for my blood tests next week (heaven forbid they be done at the same time) and she told me to have a flu jab, when I mentioned the 12 week think she said she'd never heard that and she told me that you can't eat soft boiled eggs but agreed when I corrected her.

All in all, I don't exactly have the highest of faith in my midwife Hmm

Oh Runner , can't you ask for a new one if you're really not happy with her? She sounds like a tool.

I had a Drs appointment this morning, my sit bone pains are getting on my wick. I've been suffering from a bout of the shits today delightful. They had a feel around and think it's just muscular/tendon stretching. Definitely not pgp. Thank god! But she has told me to rest as much as possible to help the pain and I can also take paracetamol for it especially in preparation for NYC. That means no dog walking either Sad. Additionally due to my increased pissing adventures she tested for a UTI. I have no signs of that but turns out I have increased sugar so I have to come in for blood tests woo.

So mental breakdown yesterday and today feeling like shit the shits. Oh how we all love being pregnant.

Lanadel · 18/01/2016 13:02

Oh goodness it seems like everyone is having a helluva time adapting to pregnancy. Group hug? Flowers
I had a bit of an emotional weekend too, ended up in bed all day yesterday crying because OH hasn't been showing any excitement or asking questions and it made me think he didn't want this any more. I need to get a grip. I've also had the money worries too but I know we are fine. Then I was thinking about disabilities etc etc etc... Thank god I am back at work so my brain is kept busy haha xxx

Pinklily1 · 18/01/2016 13:18

Runner, is it possible you may get a different midwife for each appointment? At my doctors there is a midwife team of I think three and when I go for appointments it could be with any of them I think. I know some people would prefer consistency with one midwife but if yours is crap there could be an option to switch?

Bunch, when are you going to New York? Have you been before? Such an amazing place.

I tend to feel shit everyday so I'll just say the status quo is maintained here Sad I honestly cannot wait to get past 12 weeks when hopefully I will start to feel better.

Pinklily1 · 18/01/2016 13:20

Ps Bunch, did they give any indication as to what's causing the shits?! I've had them too but I think it's because I'm eating very differently. Normally I am really healthy, lots of fruit and veg, but that makes me gag so at the minute I'm living of potatoes in any form, crackers and weetabix Confused

BunchOfBobs · 18/01/2016 13:29

Hi Pink. I go on Monday with a friend for 5 days. I've been before as I started my honeymoon off there. Can't wait!!
She had no explanation for it but told me to keep hydrated and if it doesn't improve to go back. Pfft. I'm feeling rotten with it today.

Nevlet · 18/01/2016 16:07

Afternoon all sorry you all seem to be suffering!
Any tips for crippling headaches? Am not sleeping well which i think is causing them...

BunchOfBobs · 18/01/2016 16:30

Stay hydrated Nev. I used 4head when I went through a patch of them but turns out you're allowed to use paracetamol when preggo- I just wouldn't do it every 4 hours for days on end.

Nevlet · 18/01/2016 16:47

Thanks bunch i had to take paracetamol at lunch after a particularly loud class, stopped on the way home to get some of those cool patches you stick on your forehead to try now!

shelbTa · 18/01/2016 17:43

Hi ladies,

Thanks for your support yesterday!

Bloody hell runner she sounds like a nightmare! Mine wasn't much better to be fair - whenever I asked for her opinion on anything her textbook answer was 'it's entirely your decision'. Cheers.

Oh pink - you still rough?

Hi bunch! Thanks for your message yesterday.

Hi everyone!

X

Pinklily1 · 18/01/2016 18:52

Yes Shelb. I don't feel like myself at all and it's getting me down a bit to be honest. I was hoping to enjoy pregnancy and be all glowing and goddess like but to be honest I am just a pale, spotty mess with greasy hair and massive boobs Hmm

How are you feeling now? Has work calmed down for you?

Is anyone taking a pregnancy multi vitamin? I am taking folic acid and vitamin d individually but because I am eating so little I am worried about not getting all of the necessary vitamins etc, particularly iron, so I'm tempted to start taking a multi vitamin to be sure I'm getting everything I need.

DrWhy · 18/01/2016 19:14

Runner Pink and Bunch sorry to hear you are feeling so grim. That midwife doesn't seem the most switched on.
I cracked on Sunday and told one of my best friends, she's had 2 babies close together in our local hospital so knows the system inside out, she's been brilliant at telling me what to expect and when in terms of appointments and things. I also get baby cuddles and sticky toddler grins to reassure me that I'm not utterly mad to do this! She's also offered to come to appointments with me if I want her to while DH is away.
I'm taking the Pregnacare multi vitamin, it was on offer in Tesco and as I don't eat much meat I wanted to make sure I was getting everything I should. It also means I don't worry when like tonight, dinner is cheese and tomato pizza Hmm
I'm 6 weeks today so making the most of feeling OK to eat everything I like! Not sure how long that will last.

Runner05 · 18/01/2016 22:26

Bunch the midwives in my area work in a team of two. This girl and another one. I have my fingers crossed I get the other one from now on.
Glad you don't have pgp, hopefully it'll start to feel better soon.
Good luck in NYC I hope you have a brilliant time.

Lana you're allowed to have hormonal crying moments. Today I was crying because I was watching Mr Selfridge and the boys were going off to war. I was sobbing because the boys really did go to war and most of them died horribly.

Pink I sympathise and second your continual shitness. I'm currently having the longest period of just feeling vaguely ill and not retched for ages but conversely I have a shocking headache... Right now I prefer it to feeling sick!
I'm taking seven seas pregnancy vitamins. It's a good idea to take them while you aren't eating properly.

Shelb I'm sorry your midwife wasn't better but I'm also relieved it's not just me. Mine appeared to be a moron Hmm

Dr I'll keep my fingers crossed that you're one of the people who skip the hellish first trimester.

shelbTa · 19/01/2016 08:13

Hi pink. Ah that sounds rubbish - are you back at work yet? Have the sickness tablets worked? Work is still really busy, which is why I've not been on here much as I just don't have the time unfortunately. Christ knows how I'm going to return to work post child!

X

Runner05 · 19/01/2016 09:55

Morning ladies, how are you all today?

I'm having a "I don't feel pregnant" day. I mean, I still feel sick and reading still makes me feel ill so obviously I am. I think it's just one of those things. I really want my scan now and waiting for it is going to be quite frustrating.

OP posts:
Lanadel · 19/01/2016 11:05

Morning everyone!
How is everyone feeling today? Pink, Runner, Bunch hopefully the sickness and general grimness passes for you soon.
Pink I have been taking pregnancy vits from before conceptions. Currently taking pregnacare with omega oil tabs. Calcium & but D vits and also a Vit C you put in water. I think I am addicted to vits.
I have my first appt tonight with my GP, I think that's the fort step up here in Scotland. I am 4 +6 and the only symptoms I really have are sore boobs and lack of AF.
You'll be sitting back smirking when the sickness catches up with me I'm sure x

BunchOfBobs · 19/01/2016 12:18

Morning all,
I've mostly got away with the hideous first trimester I think. I've had some pain but no sickness (just the odd bits of queasyness) tired etc but I mostly feel fine most of the time. I think I'm still emotional. Since yesterday I'm feeling very attached to being pregnant so now I'm worried about every little twinge or sneeze. Didn't sleep too well last night and have a headache today- probably related.

Booking in appointment tomorrow and I have a list of questions as long as my arm!!

DrWhy · 19/01/2016 12:56

Lanadel I don't think there's any logic to it? I'm in Scotland too and when I called the surgery to tell them I was pregnant and ask what to do they made an appointment direct with the midwife for 8 weeks, so that will be the first time I see anyone. No doctor involved.

Runner thanks, I'm only 6+1 so I'm crossing my fingers too - plenty of time to go!

hgleslie89 · 19/01/2016 14:07

Lana and Dr I'm in Scotland as well. When I told my GP he said "we don't deal with that here" and gave me the details of the booking in team in my NHS area. Seems to be a real lack of consistency, which is a bit concerning.

Lanadel · 19/01/2016 14:32

Hi Dr, Leslie , I made an appt with my GP as I take pills and creams for allergies and psoriasis but I don't have major issues, I just want to make sure what I take is ok or if he can prescribe something different. If I find out anything tonight I will let you know.
Also, when I was waiting at the dentist last week, they had an 'advert' on their tv for this site www.readysteadybaby.org.uk/you-and-your-pregnancy/index.aspx I don't know if it tells you about who to contact as I only had a quick glance then forgot all about it til now. I haven't asked anyone else what they've done as only I and OH know about the pregnancy x

Lanadel · 19/01/2016 14:38

www.readysteadybaby.org.uk/you-and-your-pregnancy/im-pregnant-what-should-i-do-now.aspx
I think you're supposed to book directly with the midwife.

Morwenna1 · 19/01/2016 16:04

Hi All! Missed loads as usual...

Shelb I second what others have been saying, your preggo tests will only work up to a certain point, after which they will start getting faint, if not negative. Google the Hook effect. I stopped testing over Christmas and forced myself to wait until my early scan to stop worrying so much!

Runner your poor Mum Flowers Sounds like a right idiot of a midwife you've got yourself there...here's hoping you can swap. My appt is on wednesday next week...finally! I asked again about when I'll know when my 12 wk scan is, and they said if I'm opting for the screening tests they'll get me in earlier rather than later.

Pink I'm taking Tesco pregnancy multi-vits + omega 3. Contain exactly the same stuff as the Seven Seas, Pregnacare etc. but cheaper! (And they are usually on offer, 3 for 2 that sort of thing). Worth just checking out the ingredients on the back of pack and doing a comparison.

Bunch Haven't had the shits, but er, the opposite issue! Didn't go for a couple of days?!! I was getting quite worried. Now finally gone and er, relieved about that! next thing you know we'll be talking about cervical mucus don't worry about being an emotional mess. I'm just really snappy and impatient and moan-y according to my DH! And I'm having complete brain farts all the time, y'know just doing stupid shit that doesn't make any logical sense. Baby brain! Envious of you on your travels though, enjoy!

Dr Lana Leslie - Tbh, the docs appt I had was a waste of time, so it might be just as well that you're skipping that and going straight to the midwife stage!

Still no morning sickness at 10+1...long may it continue! In cold weather I crave stodgy crap like cakes. Trying to resist but it's v difficult at the moment.

My DH thinks I'm showing. I'm not so sure, I think it's bloat mainly!

Lanadel · 19/01/2016 21:12

Hi Mor glad to hear you're doing well and yaaaayyy to the lack of sickness!!! That's great news. I hope I have the same luck as you.
My doctor was actually soooo lovely tonight, telling how amazing it is to have kids etc, I was almost tearing up (I'm an emotional wreck like that anyway). He prescribed folic acid because he has to even tho I take the vits, it's a step to show they are taking precautions against neural tube defects. He just made my night really as sad as it may sound haha.
When is your scan booked for?
I called up the midwife and they booked in my first appt and my scan which I wasn't expecting at all as I hadn't even seen the doc at this point. X

Pinklily1 · 20/01/2016 12:01

Thanks for the vitamin tips ladies. OH got me Asda own brand pregnancy vitamins - £4 compared to £10.99 for the Pregnacare ones.

How is every doing? Looks like we have a few more scan dates coming in - when is yours Lana?

Shelb, how's work?

Runner, are you feeling any better? What are you doing about getting another sick note?

I'm thinking of stopping the anti-nausea meds. I have spent all morning running to the loo thinking I am going to be sick, so I'm not convinced they are doing anything. They may have just held off the sickness until now but not sure.
