Thanks madsaz I've had a look at the ECV one and a brief look at the management of breech presentation one.

A close friend has had ECV twice, once for each of her pregnancies, and it worked neither time. So that's probably colouring my view which is silly as she's just one person.

I will agree to it if it's recommended to me, I know that. I expect I have a better than average chance of it working given that this is my third baby.

Saying all that, DS was breech at 32/33 weeks and I went in for a scan to check the position of the placenta at 34 weeks and he had turned. So maybe I'll be lucky again, and hopefully you will too Smile

haquoi123 · 21/12/2015 07:37

maisie, one thing that my hypnobirthing teacher (also a practicing nhs midwife) says regularly is that a baby shouldn't be considered breech until 37 weeks and most often will turn when they're ready. Only about 5% is babies are actually breech in the start of labour. There is often a reason for babies being in the positions they're in and we don't necessarily know why, (position of cord, etc.) This is a good link (which also has a link to Mary Cronk's AIMS article and other useful links). You might find it useful. www.mindfulmamma.co.uk/my-baby-is-breech-help/

Whoknew hope your night wasn't too sleepless, sure baby is fine as it's exceptionally well padded. How are movements? (and bruises?)

Northern Shock

I was going to say the same as Haquoi about there being plenty of time yet for turning; my hypnobirth book essentially says not to even think about worrying til 36 weeks, and even then the vast majority of breech babies will turn. Incidentally, one thing is really pissing me off- apparently DH has told people at work (we work at the same company, I know them too) that I'm doing hypnobirthing and every time he gets a knowing, smug look and 'she'll be begging for an epidural, it never works', so he has no faith in it, thinks it's hippy-dippy crapola and is less keen to support me. Why do people presume to know what I want?! Rant over!

Posey01 · 21/12/2015 10:09

Same monkerina - but they tend to be the people who know nothing about hypnobirthing...

MaisieDotes · 21/12/2015 16:13

Thanks haquoi and monk yes I'm sure he will turn

whoknew hope all is ok today and you're feeling better Flowers

monk that's so annoying. So annoying. I hate the "oh just you wait!" brigade. I'm sorry to hear they've got into your DH's head Xmas Sad

madsaz76 · 21/12/2015 18:26

I'm not particularly worried about the turning yet as I know the data. I would like a different position though - the top of my abdo is solid and there's nothing lower down.

Just one meal without a head in my liver, just one .....

haquoi123 · 21/12/2015 19:34

Eurgh, monk and posey, people really need to butt the hell out! It's like no one else is going to birth this baby, who cares how I do it? I'm doing it the best way for me, suck it up and support me or get out of my face. What damage is hypnobirthing going to do? Luckily people are quite worried about talking about labour with me so I don't get too much crap, but I have had to shut people down, especially those who assume I've never been through it (erm, yes DS just slipped out, easiest day of my life... Angry). Sillies.

So DH gave me a wonderful surprise today - an hour in a flotation tank! I had to get in a couple of times as bubs moved and I felt so sick, but the second time I fell asleep and just floated, it was utter bliss! Highly recommended, I feel floaty even now.

Also midwife appointment, baby is still lovely and big so I'm off for a growth scan in the new year. I'm going to take no notice of the results (actually quite proud he's a sturdy baby) but excited I get to see him again!

ooooh flotation tank. Sounds immediately appealing. Need to explore this further.....

Should probably get listening to my hypnobirthing stuff too - still not really putting much effort into preparing. No one dares tell me its nonsense. A couple of blokes at work have told me their wives regretted not having an immediate epidural - but when I point out that the less intervention I have the less chance of me having to stay in hospital they suddenly understand my need to try.

I fully accept I may turn out to need all sorts of drugs and extra management but see the power of psychology in action at work everyday - why not apply some for myself.

clumsypots · 21/12/2015 22:21

haquoi flotation tank sounds amazing! I have been referred to hydrotherapy but I will have to excersise doing that Hmm

I'm sure having a baby makes people interfere where they would not normally have an opinion, I like just ignoring everyone (other than the professionals) and doing what I feel comfortable with.

RattyCatty · 22/12/2015 08:56

whoknew how are you?

northern wow! You are v good for not going crazy!

Can't quite believe we are all nearly there. Put things in hospital bag last night which made things v real. Although I still need to wash the baby clothes & get a few more bits. I wonder when things will happen?! Most babies are born after 38 weeks right?

clarabellski · 22/12/2015 09:06

ratty I've made a deal with mine to arrive at 40 weeks exactly....

Stepawayfromthezebras · 22/12/2015 10:19

haquoi flotation tank sounds fab!

I've not listened to my hypnobirthing CD yet on the assumption that my 36 week scan will still show a low placenta and I'll still need a c-section. I was so disappointed at my 32 week scan when they said I'd most likely need one but now I've got my head round it I'll be cross if it's changed and they say I'll be doing it naturally - but I reckon pregnancy means we're allowed to be contrary. Smile

monkerina well justified rant - I think hypnobirthing is a great idea - completely not hippy-dippy - and it's your birth, your husband should be supporting you. Though when I bought my book and CD my boyfriend immediately assumed it was because I was stressed about the prospect of giving birth rather than realising it was that I wanted to have some control over it.

Posey01 · 22/12/2015 15:08

Corrr flotation tank sounds like bliss!!

I'm getting a lot of flutters/movement really low down - anyone else? I'm guessing this is because baby hasn't turned (yet)...hmmm! I wish i could tell which body part is which!

clarabellski · 22/12/2015 16:45

i get them low down and up at the top of the bump posey, sometimes at the same time. Think it is doing star jumps...

The low down ones are usually never as strong as the ones at the top of the bump - more like the flutters you mention. Probably too much padding in the pelvic area, although sometimes they manage to jolt me in the hip joint which is fun.

Anyone else still at work? I'm over it...Hopefully get away early on xmas eve!

RattyCatty · 22/12/2015 17:38

posey I get v low movements & scan/midwife have said she's head down so it might be arms x

Rufus200 · 22/12/2015 19:14

Had a scan today, baby has hardly any fat at 33 weeks and is measuring a week behind. I've been the exact same weight for 6 weeks now. Been told to up my calorie intake but still no sugar, which I'm finding really hard. I would happily stuff mince pies, cake and chocolate in for calories but can't. Having another scan in 2 weeks and then a specialist growth scan, they will make the decision based on that and may say he has to come out then Shock. Think that deserves a holy fuck!!! C-section is booked for 6 weeks today, which is a terrifying thought, 2 weeks is aaarrrggghhhh!

Dr kept on flashing up baby's testicles during the scan, poor little sod being humiliated before he even comes out. Tried to have a 4d pic but he wouldn't stop waving his hands in front of his face.

Went to a breastfeeding NCT 3hr class last night run by an insane breastfeeding only woman. Failure was not an option! Formula was the devil's milk!!! She did show a really good video on latching on and she said she would email out the link, I will post it if/when it comes through.

On a positive I'm finally getting a refund on my brand new washing machine that shrunk all my maternity clothes. They sent an engineer yesterday who said there was nothing wrong with it and no refund. Then today they called and said I could have a replacement or refund, no way was I having that machine again! They must have processed the data they took and seen a fault! Yesterday I drove to the old house and washed a load of baby clothes there, need to get on and wash all the blankets and bedding incase I do only have 2 weeks.

jellypi3 · 22/12/2015 19:28

Wow rufus sounds scary. 2 weeks is no time!!! I also had my nct breastfeeding session last night but our teacher was really relaxed, and wasn't pushing it down our throats. They must vary so much!

RattyCatty · 22/12/2015 21:10

rufus that is scary but v glad they are keeping a close eye on you & he would be absolutely fine coming out to meet you then Smile

Our nct breastfeeding session was more relaxed too, although it does sound very hard work!

Rufus200 · 22/12/2015 22:29

Is anybody washing toys as well before they are given to baby? I'm just thinking whatever chemicals are on them and then when the baby sucks on them, they will ingest the chemicals.

Having a bit of a panic that I'm not ready. Only read 1 baby book, whole stack waiting to be cracked open and suddenly I seem to have run out of time. Need to finish my baby shopping list asap.

Stepawayfromthezebras · 23/12/2015 09:22

Crikey, 2 weeks is pretty imminent Rufus have you had steroid injections just in case? And also if you've not had the WC vacc yet and are going to get it, would be better to get it sooner rather than later.

We're having the nursery painting finished today but I've also only read one baby book so far, we've only got a couple of things to get but being pretty much housebound with the placenta previa is a real pain - I feel like a right diva constantly asking my boyfriend to run errands for me!

Mawsymoo · 23/12/2015 09:34

Hopefully baby will grow Rufus and will stay put for another while. DS started measuring behind around 24 weeks and by 30 weeks was 10 days behind. He was born at 39 weeks weighing 6lb 12oz - very long and skinny but ravenous and took to gaining a pound a week for a while! He fed around the clock which was the downside for me.

Also don't worry about toys or books or anything like that yet - newborns just need something to eat, somewhere to sleep, clothes to wear and somewhere to be changed and washed. That's it. They won't even notice toys for a couple of months and it will be longer before they get the coordination to grab and bring to the mouth.

clarabellski · 23/12/2015 09:52

Wow Rufus - 2 weeks! Hopefully your next scan enables them to stay put for a bit. Take care of yourself! Flowers

Stop work tomorrow for a week and the chesty cold has arrived - typical!

goodnightdarthvader1 · 23/12/2015 19:11

Mine are like that too, she's now head down. Did anyone else feel the movements change after your baby changed position?

madsaz76 · 23/12/2015 22:14

rufus Flowers hope baby has a spurt!

I have another cold. This time it is a frightening challenge to my pelvic floor. Don't think we are gonna make it Shock
