Hope you got to sleep in the end Rufus. I have the biggest bottle of gaviscon by the bed that I swig directly from. It's the only thing that helps for me.

Dd had formula, I think I tried them all and settled on cow and gate. Or maybe hipp. Sorry not much help!

Troika · 21/10/2015 06:41

Ratty I moved when pregnant with ds and I had to register at doctors and go through the whole booking in process again because their notes were different! Hopefully you won't have to do the same.

RattyCatty · 21/10/2015 07:15

Thanks troika I will ask my midwife at next app & cross my fingers! Good luck today!

rufus that sounds grim - gaviscon pronto!

If you plan to breastfeed (I know things don't often go to plan!) do you just buy a pack of aptamil for newborns invade you need to top up? Sort of like security?

clumsypots · 21/10/2015 08:06

Oh rufus that sounds awful, if it helps I haven't been able to stomach chocolate at all this pregnancy so you are not alone! It's apple juice that sets my heartburn off at the moment, not good when you drink it by mistake with no rennie available.

ratty I breast fed last time and plan to do so again this time, I was very grateful of my box of emergency milk when I got taken into hospital in the middle of the night after having her as it meant my mom could feed her while I was being sorted. I was very lucky that she took to both with ease and had no problems swapping between the two when I needed to.

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 21/10/2015 08:09

Good luck with your consultant appnt today Trokia. Hope everything is straight forward xx

Re. Heart burn I seem to only get it at the moment if I dare to eat cake lol. We have had lots of apples and pears from the garden so I've been making cakes and omg my body hates me indulging even in the smallest way. So it could be worth just sticking to savoury stuff and seeing if that helps, I'm assuming it's the sugar that's doing it.

Mawsymoo · 21/10/2015 08:15

Ratty you can get a starter pack of aptamil that has 6 little bottles of ready-made milk and 6 sterile teats that screw directly on - I kept a pack in a kitchen cupboard "just in case". I never needed them but they were good to have there as security and I'll do the same this time.

jellypi3 · 21/10/2015 08:30

ratty I think.if you are changing NHS trusts you need to do your booking again and you can't use your old notes but if you are under the same trust you just tell your mw you want to transfer.

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 21/10/2015 09:01

I transferred through my midwife as with DS we had planned a c section in one hospital and I suddenly had a total change if heart and wanted a home birth so needed to transfer to the hospital nearest to me (grotty old place). My midwife took care of everything but I remember I did keep my green notes.

The hilarious conclusion was that my Mother decided to consult a psychic two weeks before my due date and the psychic said if I birthed at home there would be terrible consequences and I would nearly die etc etc. So Mum rings me up on our baby moon telling me I must go into hospital and have the baby there. So there's me on what was supposed to be a relaxing few days sobbing my heart out trying to organise to look around the birthing unit of this scuzzy old hospital and being SO fucking angry with my Mother for pulling this stunt on me.

MaryEllen1 · 21/10/2015 09:06

Good luck today troika

Glad of this talk about formula, as had planned to try and breast feed, it didn't occur to me to buy an emergency tub just in case, I will do now!!

Whoknew that must be horrible for you, do you think it was a case of your mum not wanting you to have a home birth?

also what are people's views on pushchairs and where you keep them till the baby's born? My DM has bought ours for us but said that it has to be kept at her/elsewhere as its bad luck before the baby's born? Anyone else heard of this or done the same?

NorthernChinchilla · 21/10/2015 09:25

I can't remember for the life of me what milk we used. I bf'd DS to some degree til he was one: topped up with formula til my milk came in, and gave him one expressed bottle or formula a day so DP could do it and bond, and I could chill/sleep/go out somewhere.
I expressed milk in some weird and wonderful places at work when I returned I can tell you Grin!

It's meant to be bad luck Mary to have the pram in the house before the baby. Old superstition clearly, but lots of people like to keep them elsewhere.

Got second appointment, this time with the consultant, to discuss my c-section tomorrow. Hope to goodness it's as simple as the one with the MW the other week....

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 21/10/2015 09:25

MaryEllen she genuinely believed the psychic!! Of course once someone says something like that it's very difficult to find the confidence to press ahead anyway, particularly since the health professionals really didn't want me to home birth either due to it being my first and me having a fibroid that they thought might bleed out (it didn't, I still have it Hmm)

I know lot of people are suspicious about prams in the house before the baby is here. All I can say is we had bought the travel system when I was about five months gone and had already worked out how to fit the car seat and put the thing together, learnt how to collapse it etc. it was pretty useful to have done all of that early and it be panicking about it post birth. Thing is about superstitions is you have to believe then for them to have any power. So if you think it's nonsense ignore, if you really think you'd rather not risk it then it might be worth getting everything prepared before the birth but just storing it away from the house.

MaryEllen1 · 21/10/2015 09:41

I know what you mean whoknew once that seed has been planted it's very hard to think of anything else or go ahead as planned!

I think I'll let DM keep the pram at hers then and go there to have a look set it all up etc Grin

MaisieDotes · 21/10/2015 09:52

I don't believe the pram thing myself but I'd be delighted to have someone offer to keep it until the birth as the blasted thing is massive! Grin

Although knowing me I'd probably get the urge to fiddle with it and practice the fold at 3am one morning so maybe it'd be better to keep hold of it!

MamaBerg · 21/10/2015 12:48

Good to know about that starter pack. I plan to EBF but might get a pack in incase of emergency!

Our pushchair etc has been donated by my sister and is currently in the garage. It needs a bit of a clean but will do that nearer the time as it will only gather more dust in the meantime! Never occurred to me its bad luck and I'm not superstitious in the slightest. Its good to have it to practice before I get too huge or bubba comes along early!

MaisieDotes · 21/10/2015 13:49

Back from physio. She said I've damaged a nerve in my back but she doesn't think it's sciatica, which is good. Normally the treatment would be anti-inflammatories but I have to make do with exercises and go back in two weeks.

She said I don't need a support belt for my particular issue so I'm glad I held off on getting one for the time being.

One of the exercises I have to do is squats so I can kill two birds with one stone!

jellypi3 · 21/10/2015 17:50

Ouch for damaged nerves masie!

I've just got back from the MAU. I had swollen hands and dizziness today and reduced movement the past few days. Turns out my ketones were 3 times normal levels which apparently says I've not eaten or drunk enough. So I'm on orders to stuff my face. Hurrah!

clumsypots · 21/10/2015 21:03

maisie that sounds painful! jelly that sounds like the best medicine ever Cake

Had to go home from work this afternoon as the braxton hicks were really strong and quite painful. Put my feet up when I got in and they have eased off a little does anyone have any other tips for easing them?

Mawsymoo · 21/10/2015 21:22

I had a bad day for Braxton hicks too clumsy - we got bad news on the house move and I was so upset and stressed and I got some quite painful ones. I generally try to rest and drink lots of water if at all possible. I had them loads on my last pregnancy too but never very painful before

jellypi3 · 21/10/2015 21:23

Oh no mawsy what's happened???

I don't think I've had any braxtons yet, but they don't sound pleasant.

clumsypots · 21/10/2015 21:30

Oh mawsy Flowers for you I hope you get the house stuff sorted quickly!

I have had a stressful couple of days and I am very tired which might be why they are hurting today, I did read that it is sometimes caused by dehydration so I have had lots to drink today too. I don't remember having them in my last pregnancy at all!

Mawsymoo · 21/10/2015 21:49

Ah jelly the house we were buying has fallen through Sad. It's not in any way our fault but I feel like the worst mother in the world this evening. I've spent the whole of my pregnancy so far focused on this house business instead of my baby and it looks like it was all for nothing. I'm also worried about disruption to DS. We're looking at short term rentals but the market is disastrous here at the moment - there is a massive shortage and rents are huge. The other option is to move in with my parents and hope to find another place quickly. But they don't have loads of space.

I'm nearly 35 years old I shouldn't be in a mess like this. I know it's not our fault but I can't help feeling I've really let my family down. I was crying to DM this evening and I said something about bringing another baby into this mess (probably fishing for reassurance that it's not a mess and baby would be welcome if we are with them) and she said "yeah it would probably have been better if you weren't pregnant". Helpful.

I know all this is unimportant in the scheme of things but right now I'm feeling very stressed out and low Sad

MaisieDotes · 21/10/2015 22:14

Oh mawsy I don't believe it Sad

Troika · 22/10/2015 06:55

Mawsy that's so rubbish. I hope you manage to find somewhere else without too much stress.

Consultant appointment was OK. She was really abrupt and a bit dismissive but I got to see baby briefly on the scanner and have been booked in for a couple of extra scans.

Yesterday was a bit of a manic day and I was feeling quite stressed, hadn't drunk enough, and was on the go til gone 9 pm having not slept much the night before. I was almost in tears at about 7 because i was so tired but still had a big long list of things to do ahead of me. Plus dd was being a bit attitudey and I just couldnt cope with it in my exhaustion so ended up yelling at her Sad. When I finally did stop for the day I could barely move, my lower back hips and legs were agony. Slept much better last night and fingers crossedfor a better day today.

Troika · 22/10/2015 07:06

Re formula I won't be buying any as a just in case because I think it's too easy to give in and use it in those difficult first few days especially. But then again when my first was 2 days old I did take a 2am trip to the 24 hr supermarket because she just wouldn't settle and I was doubting my bodys ability to make milk and feed her. In the end I didn't use it as the trip out settled her but I was ready to ditch bf at that point! (Very glad I didn't though)

MaisieDotes · 22/10/2015 07:28

Hope you have a better day today troika

I went to bed at 9.30pm last night and I do feel the better for it. Although I've woken up this morning panicking about my dad's 70th birthday which I am meant to be organising. I'm behind on sending out invites etc because I couldn't focus on anything due to my back. I really better crack on with it!
