Carrycots - they scare me a bit. I had a Buzz with DD1 and a Bee with DD2 - seats had newborn inserts - made them totally flat and they were fastened in with the harness. Crusi is the same - insert makes it totally flat and they can be strapped in. Its the lack of straps in carry cots that worry me. MIL reckons I'm being ridiculous but I already know full well I am neurotic Grin After seeing the videos of the Cossato Giggles collapsing (they were faulty) its set me off even more.

IKEA have just delivered my POANG armchair that I plan to breastfeed in (DH has claimed it as a gaming chair in the meantime!) I had one years ago and it was so comfy. And a bargain at £55. Kallax units, Drona boxes and a new bed too!

I've also got a Pizza Hut order in the works. I need Jalepeno stuffed crust. NEED

Appy boffday chin

haquoi123 · 15/10/2015 14:24

Argh till, now I want pizza Hut! We don't have one here :(

I think the lack of straps is dodgy as well... Are all of them like that?

I have the Stokke Crusi and have just bought the carrycot. I had a travel system for my son that didn't have a carrycot and I always felt terrible that he couldn't lie flat.

In terms of not having a harness. I don't think babies have the ability to turn themselves until they are older, so I can't see how that would be a worry. The one I have has an apron that fits very snugly so the baby is well and truly trapped in there anyway. As it warms up you could also use a lightweight blanket to lightly swaddle or just tuck in at the sides.

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 15/10/2015 15:16

Sorry I meant the Stokke Xplory.

RattyCatty · 15/10/2015 15:41

mama stay hydrated and see if you can hold dowb some plain toast tonight? Or a lucozade sport for some sugar?

Happy birthday chinchilla!

I'm 25 weeks on Sunday & starting to feel v tired again... But that also might be because half term is looming!

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 15/10/2015 15:41

The Crusi seat is totally flat when used with the newborn insert, as is the Buzz and Bee.

Its not the baby rolling, its that I've seen prams tip up, and if the baby wasn't strapped in it would have been really bad (think newborn dropping onto pavement...)

My area (school run especially) is full of steep hills and very uneven pavements and I just keep thinking the baby will slide around in the carrycot - surely they'd slip to the bottom when being pushed uphill and to the top when being pushed downhill? Or am I being a bit thick?

madsaz76 · 15/10/2015 15:59

Happy birthday chinchilla

I think i associate singing with being sung to sleep so assume the kicks are disdain - though you are right they could be anything. The temptation to ascribe motive to something that is probably random is just too much.

I am wondering if I should start to be more bothered about pushchairs etc. Haven't paid much attention so far and just sort of assumed I'd get sorted in the January sales. ...

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 15/10/2015 16:37

Till I dont think you are being thick at all. If you are worries about the area you live and the hills etx it does sound sensible to just have a hanessed seat that lies flat. I'm sure that would be absolutely fine xx

CalypsoLilt · 15/10/2015 16:56

arrow what were those cloth nappy sites you said you liked again? Babi Pur and? Hmm

XingXingFox · 15/10/2015 17:10

Congrats on V days and B days! I'm 23 weeks and really can't wait for that milestone and then the 26/6 month mark which means I'm well on the way. Work exhausting at the moment, the end is in sight!

I'm still on the fence about reusable nappies but I did just do an Amazon newborn shop and bought lots of renewable wipes, so feel like I'm taking a good step in the right direction!

clarabellski · 15/10/2015 17:11

I've done nothing about prams madsaz but I did just email a nursery to ask what their waiting list is like! Blush We'd be looking at starting nursery in Jan/Feb 2017! Felt quite sheepish doing it but I keep hearing stories about nurseries being filled it to ridiculous levels!

haquoi123 · 15/10/2015 18:21

I'm refusing to buy anything until Jan sales but the looking keeps me occupied (the baby is the only interesting thing happening atm!). My aim is to get to the sale and just buy everything I've researched, unless it's available free or second hand before then.

I properly blew dh's mind with car seat vs carry cot. It took half an hour to explain options to him (by which point he literally went cross-eyed) but eventually we decided that the lie flat car seat would do us and if there was a second hand carry cot then we'd go for that too. I may change my mind when I'm bored tomorrow

Mama that sounds rubbish, I've got a very similar virus- coughing so much I vomit etc, and the worst headache ever. I think it's just drinking lots, ice cold fizzy water stays down for me.
Haquoi your travel system buying is making me feel like we've made the wrong choices, you're being so thoughtful about it! We're planning on getting a graco Evo bundle that has fwd and backwd options on the pushchair, with 0-15 kg car seat and a carrycot so baby can lie flat & nap when I'm at mum's house etc. Does that sound sensible to experienced mummies out there, or have I missed things to consider about longevity of the system and so on?

Troika · 15/10/2015 19:40

My carrycot (graco soft) has d rings inside so you can attach a harness. I have some reins in the loft somewhere I can use the harness of.

I am mostly planning on using it downstairs and for walks along the seafront. Providing baby is a lie-er downer which neither of my other two were!

CalypsoLilt · 15/10/2015 20:04

solicitor update
very boring. essentially whether or not he is on the birth certificate is irrelevant, because he is the father he can go via the courts (or via me if I don't object) for custody/visitation rights etc etc. So the only benefit of him being on the b.cert is that it's there for historical purposes/the baby knows who the father is (not that I plan on hiding his identity). That said, I cannot put him on the b.cert without his consent, so I either have to chase him for a legal declaration or he has to provide it off his own back (meaning he has to seek legal advice, which remains to be seen). At the moment I am leaning towards him not being on the b.cert in case at any point in the future I would need his signature for something (passport application?) and he's living in Europe somewhere incommunicado.

Any thoughts welcome, haven't made a decision either way.

Prams/buggies etc.... my friend has given me her old Britax B-Agile 3 and I'm very impressed with it (not that I've had a baby in it or anything!), super light weight and folds one handed. The only downside is that there is no parent-facing option once the baby grows out of the carry-cot, but hey, beggars can't be choosers!

Happy Birthday chinchilla! Cake

madsaz76 · 15/10/2015 20:05

Oh god. Nursery places. More stuff to feel vaguely disorganised about! Will get my act together when I get home - I suppose I could at least do some research Smile

MamaBerg · 15/10/2015 20:22

Thanks everyone. Im feeling a lot better now, managed a rehydration sachet in small sips and a piece of toast. Will probably need to raid the fridge in the middle of the night!

MaisieDotes · 15/10/2015 21:35

calypso DD's father is on her birth cert, it was just before he had his little freak-out and disappeared for two years.

When I went to get her passport when she was about 10 months, I had to get a sworn affidavit that I was her sole legal guardian and then I was able to get it. However I'm in Ireland so the laws may be different.

When I first took her away it was to see my aunt and uncle in Canada and the immigration official in the airport said to me "where is the father of your child?" Hmm
I felt like saying "Your guess is as good as mine missus". But I was good and just said "Ireland".

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 15/10/2015 21:45

Calypso babame and twinkleontheweb (really fucking weird name but has some amazing terry towelling on there!)

ExDP wants to take DDs abroad next year. I said he could, provided he pays for their passports as they've both expired and returns both the children and passport to me Grin Bit sad that I can't take them abroad till 2017, but then thats something we knew and considered before TTC. DH is Scottish Hungarian and ginger and would probably die in the sun. DDs will love being on their Great Great Aunts farm in Naples, running around playing necking chickens like their Dad did and I will be Envy

Phoenix80 · 15/10/2015 21:52

So we had our 2nd attempt scan today and our 'might be a girl' is in fact a boy Grin so 3 boys for us. I can't waitSmile

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 15/10/2015 22:39

Phoenix Congratulations! Awesome news.

I should probably add my 28 week scan date to the stats list Blush

Got a foot, or a fist near my right hip, makes bending rather tricky. Fortunately I'm now in bed watching LOTR with DDs snoring at the side of me, poor DH is relegated to the bunk beds again.

birdbrain21 · 15/10/2015 22:45

We have a carrycot that we bought when dd was born. I insisted on it even though dh thought it was a waste of money as we'd looked at buggies where the seat converted into a carrycot. I found it brilliant, I mostly walk everywhere and dd would sleep as long as I was pushing her, it was the only place she would go down apart from that she had to be held all the time. It alsomeant if we got home and she was asleep I could just carry the carrycot in ( block of flats ) without waking her. For those who were worried they don't have straps we took her on some bumpy and very uphill walks and she was fine maybe they're made with a non slip material because she barely moved. It was a brilliant buy and I'll definitely be using it again. Only tip I would say is wrap a muslin round the head end of it so that when throw up you don't have to keep taking it apart to wash it like I did the first couple of weeks! We also used it when we stayed overnight at my in-laws a few times when she was little as she felt more secure in that rather then a big travel cot...

Congratulations to those who passed v-dv-day :) I'm so much busier this time I struggle to keep track but I'm 25+something weeks and really feel it. Thinkit's going to have to be a quiet lazy weekend. Last week we went to the baby and toddler show in Manchester and I started the week exhausted!

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 15/10/2015 23:02

Muslins under babies head! I'd totally forgotten about that. One of the best tips I'd ever had, DD1 was a very spewy baby.

Carrycot for Crusi is £240 Shock Wondering if it's worth it. Baby will mostly be in a sling in the early days due to breastfeeding and school runs/Brownies/Rainbows. Hmmmm. Must investigate further me thinks.

Troika · 16/10/2015 06:22

Calypso I wouldn't put him on unless he specifically asks, my friend's xp isn't on their dd's and it's made things far simpler for her. Also as your xp is likely to be abroad, as my xh is, chasing him for things may be difficult.

Also re parent facing in buggies, both of mine preferred looking at the world than my mug, and both were early talkers (dd in sentences at 18 months) so any fears I had about it hindering their development were unfounded!

Sighing · 16/10/2015 09:16

Morning all. Somewhere between wave of light and my mum (now knows) and her special band of negativity I found it very hard to sleep last night. On the plus side little growing one decided to have a bit of a party in there again, so my anxiety remained relatively low. Tips for keeping awake without caffeine anyone?
