First trimester worries and joys. Test taking, morning sickness, midwife appointments and scans. It's all happening.

Can't believe we filled up a thread already. (I'll get this deleted if someone's already created a second thread, but I didn't see one!

Okay at the risk of sounded really dosey, please can I ask what is the harmony test? I've seen it mentioned on her a few times but have no idea!

ParsnipSoup · 09/10/2015 00:03

I'm almost definitely going to have the Harmony test, I'm almost 100% sure I'd continue a pregnancy if my baby had Down's Syndrome, but not Edwards or Patau. I'm a worrier though so even with nuchal screening I'd keep worrying things weren't right.

ParsnipSoup · 09/10/2015 00:05

Grapefruit Harmony is another screening test for trisomies. It looks at the free fetal DNA in your blood stream and gives you a more accurate result than nuchal testing and bloods done at 12 weeks. It looks for T21, T18 and T13 and can also tell you the sex of the baby... All from about 10 weeks.

PeasinPod1 · 09/10/2015 08:47

Southy my scan is private, was only £45 and is at 3pm tomorrow. Ill be like you though, don't think anything will ever totally reassure me!
I haven't told boss at work yet (have most people?) though so doubt they would understand me being late as I'm most junior in my team and the only one it seems ever scrutinised the few times I am late, compared to everyone else grrrr!

I'm also completely knackered but not overly nauseas poor you Sad do you actually throw up with it?

Brenna24 · 09/10/2015 09:09

Woke up this morning, went to the loo and there was a bit more blood when I wiped. Not a lot and none in the loo. I have phoned the EPAC and am waiting for a call back.

PeasinPod1 · 09/10/2015 09:15

Brenna if it was only when you wiped that will hopefully be ok...do you have any other pain? Hoping all ok x

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 09/10/2015 09:52

Oh no brenna hope they get back to you soon. I seen Epau for the same reason this morning 4th time now! and everything was fine even said I was a few more days ahead than I thought.
Still can't find the cause of bleeding!
Keeping my fingers crossed for you

PosterEh · 09/10/2015 10:24

I'm sat waiting in the proper scan department of my maternity hospital waiting for a transvaginal scan because my obstetrician couldn't see anything on my scan this morning. I'm really hoping that it's just because my bladder was completely empty. There was a gestational sac and yolk sac two weeks ago and I haven't had any bleeding so fingers crossed it'll all be ok Sad

Southy84 · 09/10/2015 10:54

peas £45 is a bargain, mine was going to be £99 which is another reason I cancelled for now. I told my boss but swore him to secrecy, only told him as I have dissapeared a lot recently and have a mw app nxt week and didn't want him to think I was a slacker. I only recently started the job and been feeling paranoid. No actual being sick for me, just feeling sick.

Oh brenna hope everything is ok, hopefully they can get you in today x

poster sending you hugs, if they did a abdominal scan that could explain why they couldn't see anything as everything is so small at the moment, I have everything crossed that they see baby on the internal scan. My epu refuse to do abdominal ones at this stage x

PosterEh · 09/10/2015 10:56

Thanks Southy yes it was an abdominal one and I don't think very good technology as just a mini machine they keep in the antenatal clinics. Dont know how they expected me to have a full bladder when the previous stage of the process is doing a urine sample.

Southy84 · 09/10/2015 10:59

That sounds stupid! Surely you do the urine sample after the scan Hmm I hope they don't keep you waiting too long x

Mamama31 · 09/10/2015 11:17

Brenna I hope you get a reassurance scan organised best just to check these things to keep your mind at rest.

Poster how stressful! I hope their machine was just crap and that's why. A transvaginal scan would see so much more anyway I hope it all goes ok for you.

Mamama31 · 09/10/2015 11:19

I was supposed to meet a friend today but not feeling up to it, woke up really early and despite going back to sleep I feel quite sick and just low generally. Duvet day for me :(

VickyHW · 09/10/2015 11:30

Thank you for your welcomes :)

I had another scan this morning, all looks fine, saw the heartbeat again, looked more like a baby than last time, still amazed at how much she's growing all the time! Last time the doctor who scanned me was really thorough and kind and went through everything on the scan and pointed out where the tail and the head was etc, but this time I had someone very matter of fact and abrupt, it was all "there's the heartbeat, I'll measure it now, DONE". I asked which way up it was and she was like "It's a bean! Who knows! You'll see next time!" haha. Got the "Looks like you're just one of the unlucky ones who bleed throughout your pregnancy, just relax!" speech again too, am trying my hardest to be relaxed :)

She's changed my 12 week scan appointment too, it was going to be on the 30th when I'd be 11+5 but she thinks it might be too early so has changed it to the 5th. I'm fine with that, I just wish I could have it on the 30th as we're going out with all our friends for my husband's birthday that night, and are seeing all my family on the 31st so was hoping to be able to tell everyone then! Now I have to lie about not drinking for another big night out haha...

Hope you're all having a stress/vom free morning! And hope they can see you and all is ok Brenna

ODog · 09/10/2015 12:10

Glad your scan went well vicky.

Hope you get the reassurance you need poster and brenna. Abdominal scans are almost useless before 12weeks so try not to worry and this thread has proved how common spotting is.

Anyone else struggling with dry, frizzy hair. My hair is really fine and I normally have to buy lighter conditioners or even 2in1 but it's not going anywhere near my hair at the moment. Bought the herbal essences deep nourishing conditioner (that would normally make my hair really greasy and lank) and it's just about getting it back to normal. Anyone tried the mum&smell pregnancy one? Any good? Or any other suggestions?

Mamama31 · 09/10/2015 12:26

Odog I use Gliss I think it's a really good conditioner, I think there is one specifically for dry/frizzy hair.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 09/10/2015 12:30

Mines gone the opposite and really greasy Blush

Mamama31 · 09/10/2015 13:01

Mine is quite greasy too Icant. But wouldn't get a bursh through it without conditioner.

frozensmoothie · 09/10/2015 13:04

Yes, I'm really struggling with dry and frizzy hair! Mine has always been thick, wavy and a bit on the dry side but nothing that lots of Frizz Ease didn't sort out. Now Frizz Ease doesn't even touch it and I have to tie it back or else it resembles a birds nest! Confused

Mamama31 · 09/10/2015 13:15

Frozen your hair sounds amazing though pre- pregnancy! Jeal! I'd love thick wavy hair!

Southy84 · 09/10/2015 13:38

Hope you feel better soon mama I could totally do with a duvet day, just had a lunch time walk now feel like I need to sleep to recover!

Brilliant news vicky, shame the sonographer wasn't as good as your last but still great news your baby is doing well :)

My hair is rank, it started off mega greasy but has now gone wild dry frizzy and I have a itchy scalp, not attractive... My hair is also mega thick so has to be put up to keep it under control! I can't even straighten it properly, I literally can't be bothered to do anything with it.

Hope everything's ok brenna and poster x

Nicky333 · 09/10/2015 13:43

Do you have to book your flu jab yourself or is that something that's offered to you by the midwife or someone?

And weird question, but does anybody know when you have to stop sleeping on your stomach?

notsoold · 09/10/2015 14:01

nicky here on my doctor's practice the midwife will remind me but I have to phone and book the flu jab myself.

When you feel uncomfortable that is when you have to stop sleeping on your stomach ( or so I was told )

Epu for the scan this morning 7 weeks and a hearbeat! Really happy. Celebrating eating strawberries and olives (in that order).
poster please try not to worry. A internal scan can reveal much more....xxx
brenda how are you? Are you being seen? Xx

frozensmoothie · 09/10/2015 14:17

Thanks mama it can be a bit of a pain to keep under control! Also not dying my hair in the first trimester so now have lovely grey roots to add to the birds nest look. I may need to buy a paper bag to go over my head!

nicky I've been told to book the flu jab directly at my GPs surgery which I keep forgetting to do! Does anyone know if you can go to a pharmacy, Boots etc... and get it done there for free? It might be easier to pop there in my lunch break than go the GPs. I guess we'd need to show proof of being pregnant. I got my maternity exemption card through the other day so I wonder if that would be enough proof? Quite excited about the free prescriptions and dental care!

Great news about the heart beat notso!

Brenna24 · 09/10/2015 14:56

I hope they find something Poster.

Not good news for me I am afraid. The baby hasn't grown at all in the last 2 weeks and no longer has a heartbeat. The Dr could see the bleeding. I wasn't feeling sore at all this morning but I am starting to ache a bit now. The neck of my womb hasn't opened yet, so only tiny amounts of blood, but I am definitely miscarrying. I have opted to see if it happens naturally. If it doesn't I will have to go in next week and either get medically or surgically induced.
