Sorry to hear your scan was uncomfortabke and worrying Rufus.

I can't remember how old you are?

NHS website gives risk at 30 of 1 in 800 and risk at 35 of 1 in 270. obviously this is without testing being taken into account. It gives the risk of miscarriage from amniocentesis as 1 in 100.

So personally, I wouldn't have an amniocentesis with your result, less than 1 in 600 is very low. But I do understand how worried you must be I hope your blood test results put your mind at rest when they come back

My risk aged 18 with my eldest was around 1 in 3000. Thats part of the reason I've refused the tests since. I was barely able to comprehend being a mother instead of going to Oxford, let alone a disabled child. As it turned out he was fine barring the injuries sustained in childbirth

primarynoodle · 29/07/2015 15:15

rusty i am also 22 and having very frequent, often daily cramping and stretching pains but have had 2 scans so far which have shown a healthy baby...

12 week tomorrow but i feel relatively calm now i have stopped reading about mmc after healthy scans that the pains are normal and possibly, with us being fairly young, more common because our bodies havent been through as much (according to my midwife)

QuackQuackers · 29/07/2015 15:39

rusty really try not to worry. The 1 in 10,000 result is the standard Harmony or Panama "low" result. The alternative is 1 in 2 or 1 in 3. There is no inbetween - hence why it is a preferred measuring tool.

1 in 250 and below are the results which usually trigger a decision to have further testing on the standard nuchal test. If you google your age, I'm pretty sure your results sounds completely normal. Age is the biggest factor in the calculation. That is why I am disregarding mine and having the Harmony. I personally wouldn't want to have intrusive testing just because of my age. Fingers crossed your second bloods work on the Panama to set your mind at rest. Then you'll too (probably) have a 1 in 10,000 result like your friend.

I agree - impact on existing children is the reason why I would choose to have further testing if I get a higher score.

My first scan is tomorrow (and Harmony bloods). I cannot wait! I can;t believe I've managed to wait it out so long! I had a 7 weeks scan last time and I thought that was a long wait! Really hope all is ok. I've been regularly sick which is not fun, but has set a little part of my mind at rest! Other than that I still have many "did I imagine the whole thing" moments.

clumsypots · 29/07/2015 16:11

rusty I am on twice daily injections of clexane, my stomach looks like my h has been beating me up (he hasn't!) I have been getting some cramping in the evening which I am not sure about but it eases off at bedtime. With my first I had a lot of pain while I was pregnant but I was only 16 and they said it was either because I was so young and very slim or it was a uti so they kept pumping me full of antibiotics, they ended up doing a laperoscopy after I had her and discovered cysts on my ovaries which they decided was possibly the cause of the pain. The pain didn't ease but it didn't get any worse.

Littleoakhorn · 29/07/2015 16:40

Welcome mamaberg!

I'm so bloated and tubby today. I've eaten a huge amount, breakfast, second breakfast, lunch, chocolate, Apple turnover... I just know that I'll have a slice of cheese when I get in, then dinner.

Rufus200 · 29/07/2015 16:44

I've just found this info online, if the Dr had just told me what the range was I wouldn't have spent the last few hours verging on hysteria! I'm now pretty pissed off that he told me 2.0mm was the top end of normal! I've posted the stats below incase it helps anyone else understand their measurements.

An NT of less than 3.5mm is considered normal when your baby measures between 45mm (1.8in) and 84mm (3.3in). The baby with a normal NT of 1.3mm will probably be low risk. However, an increased NT does not mean there is definitely a problem. Some babies without Down's have increased fluid, too. The baby with an NT of 2.9mm is also within the limit of normal range. Nine out of 10 babies with a measurement between 2.5mm and 3.5mm will be completely fine. The baby with an NT of 6mm has a high risk of Down's, as well as other chromosomal abnormalities and heart problems.

Boobear1983 · 29/07/2015 17:00

I had the nt scan last Thursday. It measured 2.1 which I got told was bang on average. The average is apparently 2.18. They said anything below 3.5 is normal and low risk. I then had bloods taken and was told if I had a phone call in 2 days and told to come in then the combined results needed to be discussed. She said if I didn't get a phone call in 2 days the results would be sent in 10-12 days. That was on Thursday and I haven't heard anything yet so I'm guessing it will be low risk. For us, even if the results came back high risk it wouldn't change anything. I wouldn't have any further intrusive tests and we would keep the baby, downs or not.

Boobear1983 · 29/07/2015 17:01

Lovely scan carlton

clarabellski · 29/07/2015 17:03

I'm not going to even start to tell you all the things I've eaten today littleoak, I'm too ashamed and if I don't say it maybe it didn't happen!

High five Carlton! It looks like they're blowing bubbles! Did your EDD change?

jellypi3 · 29/07/2015 17:07

cute scan carlton :)

my NT was 1.8, not heard back re actual risk yet

rdr15 · 29/07/2015 17:09

Fab scan pic carlton :)
I've had two packets of pickled onion crisps, cake, biscuits and a milkyway crispy roll and that's just the unhealthy stuff Grin can't wait for this insane appetite to stop!

Stepawayfromthezebras · 29/07/2015 17:25

Aw what a lovely scan carlton it does look like they're clowing bubbles Smile

Stepawayfromthezebras · 29/07/2015 17:27

blowing!

Carltonlives · 29/07/2015 17:32

Thanks everyone!

clara the little bit above his/her head is their hand, so they are waving in the pic Grin
They changed me from 11+6 to 12+2, so my due date is now 8th feb.

I had the blood test today for the downs screening (5 needle holes and 4 phlebotomists to do it, I have ridiculously deep/hiding veins!) but they said they would call me if high risk, I would get a letter if low risk. So we will see.

They also found a small cyst on my ovary during the scan, which is obviously not great but he said if it's causing me no problems they will just leave it.

I will have to tell my boss tomorrow now! That's going to go down like a lead balloon haha

rallytog1 · 29/07/2015 17:39

rufus a 1 in 640 chance means there's a 99.85% chance your baby doesn't have downs syndrome - so those are pretty good odds!

Pogmella · 29/07/2015 17:49

Awww carlton they're waving!

Off work with a stinking cold today, feel all wooly and dreadful, apparently Lemsip and olbas oil are both off limits.... Ate half a loaf of bread.. Feed a cold, right?

Everytime I cough orvsneeze I get jabby stabby pains Sad (shamelessly fishing for sympathy...)

Dh has started painting the nursery though, obv I'm far too sick to help Wink

rufus my measurement was 2.7mm and overall got 1:3048 risk with bloods taken into account. After some googling I worried that the measurement was high but still within normal range and apparently it's tricky to measure accurately.

Rufus200 · 29/07/2015 18:41

Congrats Carlton and Fox

Thank you for all your support today. In my sulk I forgot I did have pics of baby and also got a scan cd, which I think I will watch with DH on the weekend when we are both in better frames of mind.
