Miscarriage cytotec and curettage

Just that really. Current history mmc at 12 weeks (baby had reached 8 weeks, jun 2012 natural mc), normal pregnancy with ds (born Oct 2013), mmc 9 weeks (baby had reached 8 weeks, last week). I moved to belgium in August and last miscarriage happened naturally so a bit at a loss for what happens next and also if this is the same procedure if I was still in the UK. I had a scan at 9 weeks, to be told there was no heartbeat, told to wait a week then on Friday given 4 tablets of cytotec (also called misoprostol apparently) and told to come back today for follow up. Not enough had come away so given four more cytotec and told to come back Tuesday. They will check me again and if necessary do a curettage . Under general anaesthetic . Is that bit normal? I haven't been given much information and am just a bit shocked, mostly by the anaesthetic bit. Really hoping this course of cytotec works.
