crying solidarity on the smoking. I'd pretty much stopped as I had bronchitis so had my last cig at the end of feb. Feeling okay but get a bit nervous when I smell other people's smoke. Don't want to use patches so have gone cold turkey. Eek!

Mulligrubs · 20/03/2015 10:54

It is like that here Ann they do the booking at the same time aa the scan. It is bringing back memories of my scan of my son 2 years ago, the first time I saw him on the scan I cried I was so happy! And now he is jumping all over me Grin oohh the excitement and nervousness!

cryingbabymess · 20/03/2015 10:55

Ninja, I've been a lot better these past 2 days! I didn't think I'd be able to do it but I have! When I smell the smoke now, it actually makes me feel sick but I still want one! The only good thing is my dads on holiday so I've not seen him which has also helped me quit as that was always our thing, I'd go see him and smoke!

TwoBeesInTheHive · 20/03/2015 11:21

anyone else with a constant headache?? its been like 4 days now and my head is throbbing Sad and I have serious pregnancy nose too. lots of bloody snot, yuk!
I'm holding off making my booking in appointment as I'm trying to see if I can negotiate something with the local independent midwives. it's expensive if you pay but they offer a bartering service so I'm hoping we can figure something out as it would mean the difference between a high risk highly monitored hospital birth and increased chance of repeat c section, or a lovely relaxed home birth. and after my experience with the last two, I don't want to go anywhere near a hospital this time so really hoping we can figure something out!

mrstothemr · 20/03/2015 11:53

Twobees, that sounds interesting - they help mediate between you and the hospital?

Putting off making the booking in appointment here, last time I called the doc early and the cowbag receptionist was very rude and curt and told me not to bother calling in until I'd reached 8 weeks because, and this isn't quite her words, lots of people miscarry. Cheery conversation that was, esp when we came to find that pregnancy was ectopic.

halestone · 20/03/2015 12:19

I've just told my mum and grandparents Grin

TwoBeesInTheHive · 20/03/2015 12:36

mrstothemr I'm not sure yet. I'm just finding out about it. my understanding so far is that if you have their 'full services' (I don't know if they offer part services or if you have to do all or nothing) then you have them instead of the normal midwives so I wouldn't be in contact with them or the hospital at all. she would do all my midwife appointments at my house and then I call her when I'm in labour and she comes to my house. thats my understanding so far but I'm still finding out about it.

BowiesJumper · 20/03/2015 12:36

Aw lovely hale.

My parents were a bit taken aback (although they are pleased of course) and my Mum is a worrier so I keep thinking, maybe I shouldn't have told them until 12wks... but that would have felt like lying to them. Plus they're closer to my docs and hospital so it's easier to stay with them beforehand, so they asked why I was going to the doctor!

My husband is telling his parents next weekend when he see's them. I wanted the early scan out of the way to check all was well before the news was spread further.

TwoBeesInTheHive · 20/03/2015 12:36

ooh halestone how did it go???? Grin

Bumpingalong84 · 20/03/2015 12:36

DH has the day off work, so we're off to London to meet his dad and tell him! So excited as its his parents first grandchild.

TwoBeesInTheHive · 20/03/2015 12:45

Annbag thats my only concern, I'm about half hour drive from the hospital. but I suppose that would be quicker if it was an ambulance transfer. deep down I know its what I really want but not 100% sure if its the sensible option for me as I did have a c section last time. the chances of something actually going wrong are suprisingly low but don't know if I'm brave enough to take that risk and stay at home yet. I'm pretty sure they would flat out refuse me for the midwife led unit (in the hospital) and I can't bring myself to think I'll go back to the labour ward. so we will see. if I do manage to get the independant midwife atleast I won't have to fight for what I want.

cryingbabymess · 20/03/2015 12:49

I can't wait to tell my dad! Need him to hurry home from his holidays first! Will tell my brother at the same time! My OH has such a big family, we will need to try tell them all at the same time too! My OH wants to tell everyone now but I'm like no hold off a bit, I'm not even 6 weeks. I keep saying to him think of the people you want to tell, would you also want them to know if I MC?!

tootsroots · 20/03/2015 12:59

crying hehe.. it was so murky in London I didn't even see it!!!
twobees fx you get what you need from any midwife or dr!

hale and bumping I told my dad on the phone as he is an expat and he was blown away. then after a bit was like. OMG I am a granddad.. I am too young.. (59!!!)pleased it went well your end!

travellinglemon the firs GP apt is underwhelming but at the same time a positive move - or at least for me! I went at 4+1!! booking was at 5+4 as my dates messed up and just got my scan for 12+1 !!( with blood test the week before!! I am a St Georges Hosp mummy to be! All very slick that machine!!

BleachedBarnet · 20/03/2015 13:10

how lovely hale Grin I must admit when I called my dad to tell him the news the second he answered I burst into tears!

6 weeks today, feels like a long way to go... However, I can't quite believe that if all goes well, we'll all hopefully have babies by Christmas! I work in retail and we're already starting to plan for it - mad I know - it just doesn't seem that far away.

crying the eclipse was absolutely rubbish here, but just as well, I would have done the same as you I think!

twobees I'm pretty interested in having a home birth too, as someone who suffers extremely badly with squeamishness/fainting and who has a terrible fear of hospitals I would so much rather be at home. I suppose that's a conversation to have at my first midwife appointment?

TwoBeesInTheHive · 20/03/2015 13:27

yes mention it to your midwife bleachedbarnet they are generally quite supportive of home births (from my experience anyway) but they wont be for me now as I'd be classed high risk after a c section

Crumbelina · 20/03/2015 13:30

Toots, I was born in St George's! Smile. That was 36 years ago, mind.

I'll be just down the road at Kingston Hospital.

Crumbelina · 20/03/2015 13:36

my nausea seems to have disappeared! I still have food aversions but it all seems to be really low-level and much, much better than the past couple of weeks. A quick Google shows that symptoms can come and go, and nausea can even stop. Bit worrying though. I'm 9 week tomorrow (blimey!) and it only started around 5+4.

HeirToTheIronThrone · 20/03/2015 13:39

Aw Hale, that's nice. We told my mum on Mother's Day which was probably too early, but it seemed significant and I wasn't sure when I'd see her again (we don't live near each other) and it was important to tell her to her face. Need to tell my dad now as even though they've been divorced for 25+ years they do occasionally speak :)

mrstothemr · 20/03/2015 13:39

Twobees and bleached, I'd like a home birth too... We're only 15/20 mins from Frimley hospital, so if need be hopefully they could rush me in. With ds already in the picture the logistics of his care when in labour is in my mind too. His birth was the reverse of wjat I was after, I think there may even have been stirrups, so really want more control this time.

May have already been looking up / bidding on birthing pools Hmm

BowiesJumper · 20/03/2015 13:52

I had to chose between Kingston and West Mid but went for West Mid because they have a nice "natural birth unit" and easier parking! Ha.

cryingbabymess · 20/03/2015 14:07

I don't even know if I've got a choice of hospital! I'm about an hours drive away from my closest matty! I guess I'll find out in a few weeks! My dad will always be the first person I tell! Give him something to look forward to! Ever since we told him we were TTC he's like how you getting on?! I'm just like dadddddddd gross! ??

Crumbelina · 20/03/2015 14:08

Bowies, I didn't get the choice (although I can walk to Kingston hospital from home). Smile.

BowiesJumper · 20/03/2015 14:16

I think they're both good crumb, and walking distance is always a bonus!
