I love afternoon tea too! Not in London though but has given me a good idea to go for one before baby comes! I would love a spa day but no point at the moment as can't do most spa related things so afternoon tea seems like a better option!

I am loving being off work today but just don't know what to do. Could do with cleaning the bathroom and doing supermarket shop but due to pain when I move/walk especially trying to do the shopping myself doesn't otherwise seem like a great plan. I know I should just chill and relax but I'm not used to it! Feel useless! Baby has the hiccups Smile

RL20 · 20/02/2015 13:44

Ooh afternoon tea sounds lovely. Penguin, talks of spa treatments has reminded me that I really want a massage! I'm not a fan of the sound of pregnancy back massage or anything like that and would rather wait until after baby is here, but are leg/foot massages still ok? Do you have be wary of oils or anything? F anybody knows Smile

Siarie · 20/02/2015 13:47

Penguin I've got a spa weekend booked with a bunch of friends in the summer, me and DH are going and were taking the new addition. Luckily the spa we are going to have an onsite creche and baby sitting facilities!

Can, not, wait.

PenguinPoser · 20/02/2015 13:54

Ooh that sounds amazing Siarie! I will definitely try and get on a spa day once baby is a few months old, maybe for my birthday in July. DH doesn't have any interest in a spa (he's never actually been just thinks it would be boring!) but I'm sure I can recruit some friends to come with me.

RL I don't see an obvious reason why leg/foot massage wouldn't be ok. I think some aromatherapy oils would probably be avoided - but at home I have lush massage bars and some plain oil which i assume are fine. Or just use bio oil!

TinyTear · 20/02/2015 14:40

I am really not a massage person.

but yes to a London meet - either the last 2 weeks of March when I am on mat leave already, or maybe June/July when we have all popped and know a biut more what we are doing Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 20/02/2015 14:58

Never had a massage either, perhaps I should combine the two in an afternoon of pampering!!

Will have to check train prices for a London meet up!

Lauren82000 · 20/02/2015 16:12

Penguin if you have a bath, the extra bits you painted should lift off.

Still knackered despite my nap this afternoon. DH woke me up for some afternoon delight so might as well not have even had the nap I'm as tired as I was before it and were going out tonight Confused

FiRaffe · 20/02/2015 16:52

I love afternoon tea - we've been to Pennyhill Park for a couple of special occasions and that really is fantastic!

Lauren82000 · 20/02/2015 17:04

I had afternoon tea with my mum once in a fancy Art Deco hotel in Morecombe. If we hadn't been driving we would have made it the champagne version but we just had the regular kind. Was very cute and the scone was huge as big as my fist! Smile

Me and my mum had a walk round (a very long walk!) and afternoon tea at Kew Gardens in London last Summer and it was gorgeous. We went because my mum is an amateur photographer and Kew is part of the Royal Botanic Gardens (so lots of beautiful unusual flowers etc) and they had a lovely area for afternoon tea and scones Grin Will be a place where we'll perhaps take baby in the Summer.

Ooh I'm definitely a massage person, since Penguin mentioned it earlier, it's all I can think about! I haven't had one in so long!

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 20/02/2015 17:43

if you're iron deficient, drinking orange juice apparently helps your body to absorb the iron so worth doing :)

smogsville · 20/02/2015 18:33

I'm loving the afternoon tea enthusiasm. Ladies, it was lovely. At an old fashioned tea room in Brighton. Massive scone as you say Lauren. We had one of those each and some sarnies and then couldn't manage all the cakes so boxed them up to bring home and share with my dad tonight. I'm not even vaguely hungry yet after a week of being ravenous by 5-6pm every day so it must have magic sustaining powers.

DH finally made it to Cape Town via Istanbul which seems to be in the grip of a snowstorm. I was feeling guilty for making him go the long way round (was virtually half the price of direct Heathrow flights with BA) but he seems perfectly sanguine about it. I guess when you're used to being harassed by a 3yo some quiet reading time with a kindle and your choice of food and drink is probably quite a pleasant experience even if it does take longer than anticipated. The wedding is tomorrow, hopefully he won't totally ruin himself with too much wine tonight.

Oh and in other pleasing news at his third and final round of work leaving drinks on last day on weds he got a bottle of fancy whisky (yawn) and a massive river cafe gift voucher! So I am looking forward to our next visit rather sooner than expected.

Wineandchoccy · 20/02/2015 18:58

DH is out tonight, I'm in my pjs eating cheese on crackers and have ice cream + raspberries for pudding. I was planning on doing the mountain of ironing but I've decided to watch rubbish on tv instead and have an early night.

FiRaffe · 20/02/2015 19:10

We're off to friends for tea.... We were in charge of pudding so raspberries and a sainsburys triple chocolate dessert!

cinnamongreyhound · 20/02/2015 19:13

Sounds perfect Wineandchoccy!

Glad Dh is safe smogsville, my Dh rides a motorbike to work most days and after almost 10years together I still make him text me when he gets there!

banana I've found the Maggie Howell Natal Hypnotherapy CD's to be fab, though she has this habit of sing-singing 'down to where your baby lies' and now I've noticed it it's a bit distracting I managed to get the boxset and book on eBay for £17, and I've toped up the set by buying the breastfeeding CD and will get the Labour companion after the 36 week scan if the plan is still a vaginal birth.

mmmmm afternoon tea, and professional massages sound like absolute heaven!!! I was supposed to go on a post baby spa day with my mum and MiL post DD in place of my hen night Shock I've only just realised I've been done out of a spa day!!

whiney pathetic face my abdomen hurts, and so do my hips and my foof Sad and DH isn't even making subtle hints about wanting to DTD he's all but demanding it because he's gone so long which is incredibly attractive I think not one of us is going to be disappointed tonight...

DD is still rocking out with her cold, and she's turned into a demon child because she's not sure what to do with herself, I need to get out and do something that doesn't involve being mummy or wifey before I break something, dear god I miss my two miserable days at work a week might actually drag myself out swimming next Friday once mum's picked up DD...

ChickenMe · 20/02/2015 20:16

Raspberries..yum. I have craved fruit the whole pregnancy. Current obsession is Belvoir Raspberry Lemonade.
Boo I am having pain today too. What's the abdomen like? Mine feels all stitchy and like I've bruised my public bone!
AaaaRGH anyone else got loads of itching??? My boobs are just so itchy, sore and heavy and painful on the inside. I can see why they say when you're breastfeeding you want to just walk around topless. Any fabric near them feels like ants crawling.
My lower legs are puffed up and itchy too. Wail.

berberana · 20/02/2015 20:20

Woooo hoooo, I finished work today! Bit weird, it felt sort of final, knowing that even if I'm not made redundant, I'll most likely not be working with the same people again... But I'll be taking the baby in for a visit so will prob still see some of them once more. I got some beautiful flowers and a card and a voucher for Mothercare and some Mum to Be smellies so it was all nice.

Celebrating tonight with a takeout curry and a small medicinal amaretto!

Boo Monster, I've got the Maggie Howell CDs and agree that some if the phrasing is a bit distracting. But it sends me off to sleep (or deep hypnosis) - if I'm lying down I never make it past imagining I'm on the beach! I used it last pregnancy and although DS1 was early and I didn't use the CDs in labour cos we were so unprepared, I reckon I was about as calm and relaxed as you can be given the situation and I had an 8 hour labour with just gas and air... Hoping for great things if I use it properly this time!

Going to a hypnobirthing workshop tomorrow - it's free of charge so might as well - it's the Katherine Graves method so it'll be interesting to see how it differs and whether I get on better with one or another. Will report back if anyone is interested!

smogsville · 20/02/2015 20:23

Thanks Squatting and Wine. Initially you worry about them getting there, then you fly in a rage about not being kept informed! Angry Thankfully whatsapp is working even if texts don't seem to be coming through. Because he doesn't travel much for work I am used to having him around but as I'm at the parents' I'm having quite a fine old time and loads of help keeping DD entertained so no complaints.

Have just polished off the rest of the cakes, feeling a bit stuffed again.

Wine - step away from that ironing. Now and forever.

Boo it's nice that your DH obviously fancies you rotten but do tell him to bugger off, we're all v pregnant now.

31+2

cinnamongreyhound · 20/02/2015 20:50

Just tell him he who loads the dishwasher shall receive rewards Wink TheBooMonster!

PenguinPoser · 20/02/2015 20:59

I don't know whether to be envious or not of those of you who are still DTD! Feel like we should but just can't summon the energy and motivation! Keep apologising to DH but he seems fine. Boo if you don't feel up to it it's not worth the bother! Massive bump, swollen ankles, Braxton hicks and stuffy nose is not an attractive combination for me GrinBlush

Might make my own mini afternoon tea tomorrow after all the scone and cake chat!

kismac · 20/02/2015 22:12

Think baby is trying to escape through my belly button. Getting quite excited as I think my belly button might pop soon and become an outty. That's not weird, right?

Mmmm...afternoon tea. It's my birthday on Wednesday and I plan to eat so much cake.

DH has moved into spare room for a few nights. Apparently, Im taking up too much space, fidgeting too much and breathing really loudly. Oops!
