Haha thanks jmojo! I should really be the opposite as I have had the same stigma for the last 8 or so years at my work. Can't believe I'm doing it to someone else. I'm putting it down to first baby fears!

MisterSafetyCatchIsNotOn · 19/01/2015 22:08

We are still torn between finding out the sex or not. I don't want to, DH does, but if I give in I have told DH we won't be telling anyone else that we know! Kind of like the idea of having that secret between us until baby arrives so I might still be persuaded. I haven't even started thinking about names yet! DS didn't have one until he was a couple of days old.
On the sling talk, I have just been looking at this website which shows you various different ways to carry a newborn in a woven wrap (including on your back!). It looks great but I'm guessing takes some practise to get right, anyone done this before? Would love to be able to use these as it looks like a great way to keep baby happy while still playing with DS, getting stuff done, going out and about etc. I have a close baby carrier (stretchy wrap) but I could hardly use it in the summer when DS was newborn because it was too hot, although might just be because DS was a particularly hot baby.

I haven't been sick today for the first time in ages! But have felt nauseous all day, can't decide which is worse. Anyone else still suffering? 15+2

broodylicious · 19/01/2015 22:12

My previous mw looked young, just like the rest of her colleagues bar one wonderful older lady (I'd say about 50 odd). I never felt totally confident in her abilities but she found the HB each time, took my blood, dipped my wee, measured bump just fine and was pleasant enough.... I was fabulously relieved though that the mw at the hospital in charge of delivery were all clearly older! My current mw is probably about my age (mid 30s) so I'm cutting her a bit more slack.

broodylicious · 19/01/2015 22:14

Oh yes mister, I'm still suffering violent sickness and annoying nausea. Partic bad afternoon today. Bleurgh. 14weeks today. I expect this to last for at least another four weeks, going on my pg with dd.

Luckystar82 · 19/01/2015 23:53

Wow, this thread has moves fast and it's taken a while to catch up. Congrats to all ladies with good scans and results.

I'm still vomiting but the nausea has gone so it's not too bad at all. Not feeling tired or pregnant in other way and still looking fat rather than pregnant!

Had a good day at work today and enjoyed the new comedy on C4 about a pregnant woman (catastrophe) and got a load of 2nd hand JoJo baby grows delivered I bought off ebay.

Re: all talk about houses, that will be us soon. We are in process of buying a house/selling flat. Luckily we found one which doesn't need too much doing to it, just painting and new carpets. At this rate we won't be moved in until I go on maternity though, it's taking forever!

15w today

Luckystar82 · 20/01/2015 00:18

Re baby carriers - I'm planning to buy an ergo baby sling. I've read a lot of reviews online of various slings and this seems to be best for people who suffer from bad backs so have decided to invest in this.

Buggy - after road testing many and looking at online reviews (YouTube is a fantastic resource) we've decided to buy a Baby Jogger City Mini GT (not actually built for jogging despite the name!). I had thought about a bugaboo bee but it was too diddy for me. I chose Baby Jogger GT because it's light, fold is amazing and the suspension and wheels were superior to other more expensive buggies we tested. Also love the fact it lays flat for large toddlers so they can nap, and really like the large canopy hood- it's the biggest I've seen. Mainly buying cause I was loathe to buy an expensive travel system only to ditch for a bus friendly maclaren at 10 months! Also love the fact it's only £349 but it's not too pretty!

I was planning to get the BJ compact carrycot from JL , but it's really tiny and I've a feeling I will have a giant baby so won't last 5 mins! Instead I've found a large, deluxe pram for BJ online, only thing is it costs around £170. I think I'll buy it because will be more comfortable for LO even though they won't be in it for long.

Kiddicare in Peterborough is a great place to test out all the buggies.

Car seat - thanks to helpful advice here, settled on maxi cosi cabriofix car seat and family fix base.

Am glad I've done all my choosing of big buys now before house move as we need to set aside the money and I've a feeling the new house will take over all my weekends when we finally move!

smallgreenbanana · 20/01/2015 05:21

Insomnia again... did some work emails, now doing a study assignment. Might as well take advantage of the time I suppose.

I'm pretty sure I can feel some tiny kicking, especially at night if I'm squashing it! But only told DH as it's hard to be sure being a first timer.

Anyone else finding they are getting uncomfortable from sleeping mostly on the left side? I think I'm actually getting daytime headaches from the tension in my neck and shoulders now. But I guess the advice must be correct as sleeping on my back is uncomfortable (unpleasant pulsing sensation), and sleeping on my right makes me feel a bit sick (squashes the liver apparently). I normally sleep on my stomach!!

Starting preggo yoga tonight - hope it's good. I'm stiff as a board from no exercise for months!

LaLa5 · 20/01/2015 07:40

Morning

Does anyone else feel not pregnant at 15 weeks? I had nausea but it's gone and I haven't started feeling baby move yet other than a few flutters. Should I be worried?

I've got a bump though

StoneBaby · 20/01/2015 07:46

Insomnia here too. I was home yesterday and slept most of the morning to cure a migraine. Slept until 1.30pm. Then in bed at 8.30pm as I was still tired, was still awake at 11.30pm, manage to fall asleep until 2am when DS called, went back to sleep at 3.30am ish and woke up at 5.30 waiting for the alarm to go.

I thought yesterday daytime sleep was catching up, not doing my night 12 hours aghead Angry

bananas I still sleep on my back or tommy as it is the only position where I'm comfortable. When pg with DS, i was sleeping mainly on my right side wedged against DH back. The best advice I could give you is to sleep in the position you're comfortable.

StoneBaby · 20/01/2015 07:47

Lala flutters are normal at 15w, you won't feel any kicks before a few more weeks (that's what I had with DS)

14 weeks today

OP posts:
smallgreenbanana · 20/01/2015 07:51

lala I still feel a bit queasy but sometimes I do forget. Then I just look at myself in the mirror before bed and there's no mistaking I'm pregnant lady!

SophieBarringtonWard · 20/01/2015 07:54

LaLa5 I don't "feel" pregnant at 16w 4 days. I haven't felt sick since about week 8, I don't feel any movement & don't expect to for a couple of weeks. I have a hard uterus I can feel above my pubic bone & my bump is getting bigger, but that is all. It's normal for me & my pregnancies so I am not worried. Second trimester is the most symptom free it will get so enjoy it!

Butler you just ask "so have you worked here long?"! It actually came up naturally with my midwife, but as I am hopefully having a home birth with her, it is important to me that I feel confident that my midwife has seen a lot. Thing is though, as jmojo says and as I know from being married to a junior doctor (4 years post medical school), even a newly qualified midwife (or doctor) has seen a lot & worked bloody hard to take on the responsibility. Also, the older midwives might be mature entrants who have just as little experience so you never know!

luckystar I'm thinking of the Baby Jogger too! Will look for one secondhand. Either that or the Nipper. I've had a Maclaren for 6 years (goes flat for use from birth but I carry them for the first 6 months anyway), but I just don't think it will last another 3 years of hard labour so might as well replace it at the beginning...

misseskimo · 20/01/2015 08:11

Insomnia here too. Really fed up of feeling crap now. 16+2 and I constantly feel nauseous in varying levels, feel dizzy most mornings and on and off during day, and so tired I just can't function properly. Not to mention headaches!

I wfh yesterday afternoon and evening after not feeling well and falling back to sleep until almost 11am. Now I'm sitting up in bed trying to get up but the room is just spinning. Saw Dr at the weekend for another checkup and he mentioned about signing me off again for stress, told me to 'take it easy' trouble is I've run out of sick pay allowance so anytime I take before babys born will be unpaid Sad what's worse is my boss emailed me last night saying if I come in today he wants us to sit down with HR to discuss my sickness again. He said whilst he understands I'm struggling, he can no longer have me wfh all the time so needs to see what HR suggest. I've always been able to wfh so no idea why its suddenly become a problem. But it doesn't help my stress levels, and I do have a tendency to push myself until I get worse and end up being off for longer...

I'm seriously contemplating calling in sick this morning and just going in this afternoon. It's annoying and will be unpaid, but I just don't feel up to anything other than going back to sleep right now!

Naturegirl82 · 20/01/2015 08:40

Luckystar do you have a sling library near you? If you do I would suggest going to visit before you buy a sling, as they will be able to advise on what will be suitable if you have a bad back, and you might find you have a lot more choice than you realise. I've found it is really variable what suits people and it is a lot of money to spend to find out it doesn't work for your back.

I'm pretty sure I will be buying a woven as I've tried a really nice lightweight one previously but I'm still a little unsure with using one with a newborn. Although my main issue when I used it before was that DD1 was at the age that she wanted to be put down every time we stopped somewhere which meant rewrapping each time but that won't be an issue with a newborn.

I have a very obvious bump now.

miss hope you feel better soon. They can't use pregnancy related sickness for any disciplinary reasons, so I guess your boss just wants to get HR involved so that they can support you and find a way to help you cope. Is it work causing you to feel stressed or the pregnancy?

Number3cometome · 20/01/2015 08:49

We have picked a boy's name (which I have told close family) but are dithering on a girl's name.

I will tell people if they ask, but won't announce it on FB or anything.

If I find out the sex of the baby I will let people know what we are having.

I'm not worrying about them getting it wrong as I will be being scanned right up until birth so plenty of time to find out if it is wrong haha.

I was told with my two other children at 12 weeks and both were correct, with DD I had scans every 3 weeks and kept asking to make sure!

Naturegirl82 · 20/01/2015 09:06

Argh, we have vaguely started talking about names. We have loads of girls names that we like but no boys. We had no boys names last time either so were a little relieved DD1 was a girl! But as I am really hoping not to find out the sex this time I guess we need to make sure we have some boys names. All the ones we liked have been used by people we know though.

It's funny how some people really struggle with boys names and other people it's girls names.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 20/01/2015 09:10

Nature we are really struggling with girls names! I feel like we used our one perfect name that we both agreed on with DD, and there isn't a single other girls name that we agree on. It's strange because we both like traditional but not overused names, but not the same ones it seems Smile.

Threeplus1 · 20/01/2015 09:15

Insomnia here too Sad it's 4:10am here and I've been awake for almost an hour after falling exhausted into bed at 8:30pm last night. I'm also finding sleeping on my left side uncomfortable in that I wake up with pins and needles all down my left side. Oh, and I'm getting frequent headaches during the day too. It's all making me rather grumpy and impatient with dh and the dcs Sad

naturegirl I'm struggling with boys names too... There's many I 'like', but none I like 'enough' to actually call my child if it's a boy. I normally don't struggle for girls names, and even have a few stored up that dh previously vetoed (but can't anymore, I've earned this!), but even they aren't grabbing me.... The dc are constantly suggesting names (dd2 is 4 and wants Dora!), but the hunt goes on....

TinyCaterpillar · 20/01/2015 09:28

I also don't really feel pregnant Lala (14w5d) but I certainly look it! I'm sure I can feel a few movements now too, especially at night, and I've got a 'heavy' feeling in my stomach now like I'm carrying a weight (which I guess I am!).

I've got the ergo sling Lucky and it's brilliant - I'm very small but I carried both babies in it for well over a year, it's extremely comfortable and versatile - DH can still carry our 3 year old in it but it's a soft carrier so you can just shove it in a bag or under the buggy. I'm tempted to get a wrap sling this time though for when baby is very small as the ergo isn't ideal for the first few weeks and i'm thinking that it will be useful to have my hands free with two other little ones to deal with!

We've started thinking about names but I haven't got a clue. I really need to start thinking about it. Confused

Naturegirl82 · 20/01/2015 09:32

Dh suggested a boys name the other day which he really liked, until I reminded him that it was the name of my best friends pratt ex-husband so that was definitely off the table!

Dh is a teacher as well which makes it even harder as names I suggest remind him of some terrible child he has taught (and he works in a school in quite a disadvantaged area with lots of behavioural issues so that rules out a lot of names!!)

I can't remember the exact details as it as been quite a while since I looked it up. But I remember reading the paper where the suggestion about sleeping on your life side came from (as I was intrigued as to why this would be better). And I think it did suggest that sleeping on your left side was the best option, but there was minimal difference to sleeping on your right. And I think it is fine to sleep on your back in early pregnancy as the baby isn't heavy enough to compress the blood vessels, it's only in later pregnancy that this becomes an issue. But like I said it's been a while since I read it. I'm still sleeping however I like, but often wake up pinned on my back with the dog sleeping on my legs! Haha!

Zampa · 20/01/2015 09:32

Three Your pins and needles may be to do with fluid retention, like mine were. Drinking more had eradicated that symptom but now I just have to get up more often to wee!

Zampa · 20/01/2015 09:33

Nature Emily Oster's book maybe? She goes into some depth on sleeping positions.

Naturegirl82 · 20/01/2015 09:45

Zampa it was the original peer-reviewed article I read. I don't really trust reading things second hand as people put their own interpretation on things - but this is what comes of being a scientist! I had a quick google and I found an article in the British Medical Journal that looks at sleeping position in relation to still births but that isn't the article I remember reading (and also that article is flawed in case I have panicked anyone). I'll have another look at lunch time to see if I can find what I was thinking off.

Fleurchamp · 20/01/2015 09:54

I am finding it hard sleeping on my side too- I don't know what to do with my arms! So I spend the night tossing and turning.

Saw the midwife this morning at my Dr surgery. She will be doing my ante natal appointments. She is semi retired and so sweet! She made me a cup of tea and had a feel of my stomach, you can actually see a lump where my fibroid is!!! Yuk. So she reassured me that it's not in a difficult place and it's likely that the pains are my ligaments stretching (you can also feel the top of my uterus now) and possibly the fibroid growing.
I have an appointment with a consultant in 2 weeks.
She did refuse to use the Doppler though as she said it's too early and it would only worry me more if she couldn't find the heart beat straight away.

I am 14 + 1 according to NHS but according to my dates (which I know are bang on) and FMC 14 + 3

I have resolved to tell work today, am seeing my boss at 5pm when the office is quiet. Eeek!

BadIdeaBear · 20/01/2015 10:06

Yep fleur, I totally squashed my left arm last night by sleeping on it while trying to stay on my left side as long as possible. I usually basically spin all night so try out just about every position and I'm trying to slooooow that down. Not sure it's working...

Luckystar I've been considering the Baby Jogger too. It looks perfect in almost every way, but I was disappointed that it isn't reversible. If you get the carrycot that can face you, I think, yeah? But that's extra expense and a bit irritating when the seat goes flat anyway. I'm wondering if I can just reconcile myself to that, as it does look brilliant in every other way, and there's at least one or two things 'wrong' with every pram/ pushchair system it seems! Is it a major deal?

I went to circuit training last night with my equally pregnant friend (15+1 and 15+0 respectively!). We got some smiles at our low impact versions of stations but we did well. Were sensible - nothing on front or back, and practised pelvic floor exercise whilst doing our (lighter) free weights bit! I think I feel good for it...!
