Hello! I'm soon to be 38 and expecting my third, which is due on 29th May. We're based in Staffordshire, UK - my husband is 36 and we have a daughter aged 15 and a son aged 10. Bit of an age gap, I know! We'd always wanted a third (me especially) but the time never seemed right and my husband would always worry. Back in the summer, my biological clock started ticking very loudly indeed and the fact that lots of friends and work colleagues were having babies really put it at the front of my mind. So, we had lots of Big Talks and decided that we'd stop using contraception and see what happened. We honestly didn't think that anything would happen for several months, if at all. Surprise, surprise, within a matter of weeks, morning sickness kicked in!

We're really pleased and excited but a bit daunted by how much has changed in the ten years since our last pregnancy and birth - well, not the actual pregnancy and birth bits but the procedures involved and options available certainly have!

It's great to be able to talk with other ladies due at the same time - I seem to be worrying massively about this pregnancy. I plan to deliver at a midwife-led unit and hope to be able to use a birthing pool; neither of these things were widely available when I was pregnant in the past, so it would be good to hear if anyone else has experienced them.

Finally - congratulations to everyone!

Hello and welcome Creena. I gave birth to ds2 in a midwife led unit and found it to be a lot better to the hospital birth i had with ds1. With ds1 i had several different midwifes popping in now and again but with ds2 i had one midwife stay with me the entire time and she was very nice. The whole atmosphere was more homely too. Havent any experience of a birthing pool as yet but am seriously considering using one this time.

Thanks, Pebblemum - that's good to know. I will definitely be using a midwife-led unit: I had hospital deliveries with my other two (last one was also a team delivery - sadly, they've had to stop doing these in my area now as the team has been halfed and they no longer have adequate cover or resources) and I really don't want another one. I think it is so much better to have one midwife stay with you throughout and to have as homely an atmosphere as possible.
