In hospital with degenerating fibroid. On lots of morphine, staying in at least tonight. Feel rough...will give you all updates when home. xxx

mummymog · 04/12/2014 18:45

Jackie I had it. Typef you long message and toddler deleted- will type at length when she's in bed

jazzyjenbo · 04/12/2014 18:49

Jackie, a friend of mine had this and if i remember rightly you cannot have a home birth or water birth with it as the baby can catch it during birth.. They are given medication afterwards i think aswell... She insisted on being re tested as she wanted homebirth and it wasnt found on the subsequent test??!!

I finally got my booking bloods back today (only taken 3 weeks) and i am low risk of downs.. No ratio just low... But apparently I only have low levels on rubella antibodies and they recommend further vaccination... Looked it up and it is only given as part of mmr and you cannot have that whilst pregnant so i'm just gona have to hope that noone gets german measles that i can catch!...(this hasnt been an issue in previous pregnancies)

osney really hope you are feeling better soon!

sun I have a fur lined parka from tesco it's not maternity but I went for a size up and it's great, really warm and I have room to grow and will still be fine for after baby is born so I don't know if that's something you would go for or if you would rather a proper maternity coat JoJo maman Bebe do some nice ones!

Chookford · 04/12/2014 19:10

jazzy great news on being low risk, always a relief

AnythingNotEverything · 04/12/2014 19:26

I think vitamin D is recommended throughout pregnancy as it's so hard to get from diet and our climate. It's in most of the multivits and you can buy drops in Boots. Recommended for bf mums too.

ChatEnOeuf · 04/12/2014 19:48

Jackie, the group b strep is harmless to you, but if the baby catches it during labour and it's not treated, it can be fatal very very quickly. Terrifying condition. It's prevented by giving mum antibiotics in labour. If you give birth before they've been in long enough (4hrs in my old trust), they treat the baby for a couple of days too. Worth asking to be tested again at about 35 weeks as it can come and go. I'm getting tested for it at that stage and I've never had it, such is its importance in my mind.

jazzyjenbo · 04/12/2014 20:04

I dont think you can have the rubella vaccine whilst pregnant due to the same risks as catching it whilst pregnant-- deafness, blindness, brain injury, still birth.. And the list continues.
I think i'll txt my mw (think shes getting sick of me) to ask her advise! Or its clinic day on tue so could try and ring her then.

Jackie was just going to say what everyone else said - insist on being retested later, its could not be there anymore. Studies have shown germs picked up whilst being born protecr against allergies and asthma, so if you can avoid antibiotivs (safetly) I would. I didn't last time and had drip and they kept us in for 24hrs. Following birth to check her temp every 2 hours. This time I'm insisting only antibiotics if present- had to do a vaginal swab instead of a pee test ( although maybe with twins they take all precautions necessary and I'll be shouting at the wind)

Osney., feel better soon!

jazzyjenbo · 04/12/2014 20:43

I'm not overly concerned, i just think its strange how i've lost immunity in the past 2 years.
Seems we always have something to worry about hey!
We're on the countdown to early gender scans now aswell! And afew harmony results to come it. I love finding out what everyone is having.
We'll be chatting about names nect!!.. Already seen afew of our junemums posting on the baby name threads (my second fav place to be after AN threads!)Grin

mummymog sainsbury's smoked salmon is pre frozen. It specifically says on the packaging, if you don't want the faff of freezing your own. Love the stuff!
osney hope the morphine has kicked in and you're as comfortable as you can be. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Looks like my day off sick was well needed yesterday. Combined with a dose of my new prescription codeine at lunch I seem to have been headache free since about 5pm. Only the second time in two weeks so I'm dead chuffed tonight!

TheDetective · 04/12/2014 21:02

Jazzy They lowered the immunity number from what they consider immune and non immune. It was lowered maybe 18 months ago, I can't quite remember.

As a result, people who were previously considered immune are now being found to be non immune.

The vaccine can't be given in pregnancy. But it is usually given right at the point you are ready for discharge from the postnatal ward.

Or if they are unable to give it, you are advised to see your GP for it straight away (ie. they don't have a stock of the vaccine, or you have a home birth).

Osney How are you doing? I hope things are going well for you, and the pain has gone.

RE: GBS, all hospitals have different guidelines they will follow. Generally most are the same - if you have ever been found to be a carrier in your life, IV antibiotics will be offered in labour. They will be offered 4 hourly during labour. After birth, the baby will have observations, the frequency of which depends on which NHS Trust you have your baby in. Most hospitals advise you to stay for a full 24 hours after birth.

If there are any other risk factors, such as prematurity (below 37 weeks), prolonged rupture of membranes (over 24 hours), or if you have a high temperature (over 38 degrees) in labour, or any other signs of infection, or if baby shows any signs of infection, then they will offer IV antibiotics to the baby. The length of time babies have these antibiotics can range from 48 hours, to 7 days.

As I say, guidelines vary from area to area. You are best to check where you are booked if you are informed you are a carrier. All these things are offered remember, and you are at liberty to decline.

jazzyjenbo · 04/12/2014 21:15

Detective, i knew you would have the answers for us!
Would they write that i need the jab in my notes for the post natal team then/how do i go about informing them i need it?

Just seen one of my fb friends share a 12 week scan pic.. I always wonder if RL friends are lurking on here. Grin

Evening ladies :) 15w today :)

Had an ok day today, except I got a phonecall from one of the community midwives, telling me an emergency appt has been booked for me to discuss my blood results and to start me on fragmin. As a bit of background, I have protein s deficiency. Protein S is a natural anticoagulant. With my son I had a weeks worth of fragmin post birth, all was fine. This time, they wanted to re-test my levels as my initial test was done before I turned 18 which is when I believe they like to test now as apparently your levels settle as an adult, or something. Anyway, my levels were very low so they did this blood test last week (I didn't want to mention it, it didn't seem important at the time!) and arranged for me to see them in January, when i'm 24 weeks. Apparently my levels must be quite low as they want me to start the injections straight away and meet with the consultant tomorrow. Eeek. I think it's ok, but yeah, a new development :/

Hope time passes quickly for you bingo and the results are good news :)

not long now twinkle mine is 18th :)

thankyou teenie :) DS has been in a funny old mood but hasn't coughed quite so much and i've had a much clearer nose today :) Nobody fell down any stairs either, woohoo!

Alisvolatpropiis · 04/12/2014 21:18

I am already fantasising about having brussels pate and rare fillet steak. Have told DH I may well divorce him if he doesn't make it happen very soon after baby arrives! Grin

TheDetective · 04/12/2014 21:18

In our Trust it is highlighted in the main notes (the hospital records) and you wouldn't need to do anything. You would just be informed that it is being offered to you on the day of discharge (having been informed earlier in the pregnancy - it should be discussed with you at one of your next few visits).

So unless you are told otherwise, you don't need to do anything. :)

mummymog · 04/12/2014 21:19

I dont think I have ever been so tired as I am tonight. Was too tired to bath toddler and she had to wait for her dad to come home. 3 Days of running about - scan in Inverness (1.5hrs away), a day of housework and back to Inverness again today for toddler to have an ultrasound to check heart murmur - (she told the sonographer her tummy was 'baybe'). Wonder if I feel so bad cos Now I know it's twins I've mentally just accepted the tiredness. :(

mummymog · 04/12/2014 21:24

Alis- I had soft poached eggs, and smoked salmon first day we brought dd home. Was amazing. Pack Pate in your hospital bag!

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 04/12/2014 21:42

I've been eating smoked salmon without even thinking about it... Oops. Don't remember avoiding it last time particularly either.

Osney, sounds must uncomfortable! Poor you!

One of my good friends who has a ds who'll be 3 in March (so 4mo older than my dd) has put a scan pic on fb today, due 4th June Smile I wonder if both she and that mum in my class are lurking here?!!

Got really grumpy in school today, chn are all massively end of term tired but also hugely over excited. One child (7yo) decided it would be a good idea to try and poke a small pellet of paper up another child's nose. Just..... Why??! On what planet is that ever a good idea???! I lost it a bit.

And I've spent a jolly evening marking and writing h b p k hen bar pack in 30 handwriting books. The fun never stops Wink

In other news: I experienced my first craving that I actually had to quench by making a purchase - cheap salt and vinegar crisps! The posh ones won't do at all!
