I don't know if it is the same thing Debz, but up until last week (before the baby dropped down) there were times when I could literally make out bum cheeks under my boobs, and from under my boobs my bump would actually come up and over his bum (if that makes any sense what so ever?!!). I just assumed it was when he was having a stretch and a mess about, he was always very active when he was pushed up against my boobs!

Delia · 03/10/2006 09:50

Morning all,

NJ i've had the same thing the last three nights in a row, it tends to go on for a few hours and then settles although i only get it when in bed, i have been wondering but have put it down to lo being uncomfy, although it dose'nt move much until the end, i think maybee it gets comfy and then when you move suddenly it gets stuck! got parent class this evening which my madwife runs so was going to ask then, will let you know.

Debz - also getting that pressure top and bottom, assumed this was bh!

Can you all tell were getting closer.....

staceym11 · 03/10/2006 09:55

morning everyone, NJ i would worry unless they get regular, i had similar last week but with pink discharge too so had to go in but i wasnt having 'contractions' according to them (felt like them to me) and i wasnt dilating so it was a bit of a waste of time. if it gets worse then id ring soemone!

debz i get that pressure down below and the whole bump goes hard and top feels like is in agony if i walk anywhere, i think its the gravity pushing baby down and bringing on braxton hicks.

NatalieJane · 03/10/2006 09:57

Do you mean you are getting the contractions or the bum in your boobs Delia?!! (LOL sorry, I have lost track somewhere I think!!)

Debz99 · 03/10/2006 09:59

Sorry NJ didn't mean to panic you but you could do with some professional advice me thinks. If you are going into labour, the labour ward will tell you to stop where you are until contractions are xxx amount of mins apart anyway, but if its anything to be more concerened with they will ask you to come in for a check up. These ante natal classes teach you well LOL !!

Delia · 03/10/2006 09:59

both! the bum in my boobs during the day and the contraction things during the evening! makes for an uncomfy day and night and is making me feel excessivly sick i hardly moved on Sunday i felt so rough! am kind of getting used to it now!

NatalieJane · 03/10/2006 10:07

I don't think it is coming to anything anyway, the contractions have dissapeared (thank God, a nice little reminder of when I was having DS!!) I think if anything thing else happens over the next couple of days I will do something, but only because 8 weeks early, is a little bit worrying (I know there are lots of babies born even earlier with no problems, but I think the longer they can hold on for the better at the this stage!)

Now to deal with the next thing - heartburn, I had been enjoying a nice break from it since the baby dropped down last week, but today it seems to have just been building up more energy and has now come back with a vengeance! Back to ODing on Rennies I think!!

MeAndMyBoy · 03/10/2006 10:17

Morning ladies,

FHLH - they do worry you don't they. Are you keeping a kick chart this time? see how long it takes to get to 10 kicks this morning. I'm sure as others have said LO was just having a quiet day.

NJ - certainly sounds like your body is practising - I've had a couple of episodes like this, definately not BH's and very uncomfortable but also different. The first time it lasted about an hour and a half and then died down second time was last night for a couple of hours but again died down after that. I am a little bit further on than you though 35+5 so I'm not really concerned - if this had started at 32 weeks I think I'd be keeping a close eye on when and how often. If it happens again fairly soon I'd be tempted to call the madwives and see what they say.

Charlee - you sound like you're having a nightmare, take care and hope you can get things sorted the way you want them. Fingers crossed you are able to get the consultant to agree to a c-section - your reasoning is all very sound. Even if he says No go for a second opinion, at the end of the day it's your choice.

Debz99 · 03/10/2006 10:18

I have not had any let up on the heartburn for months I now have shares in gaviscon liquid and rennies ! Wish it would go away its so uncomfortable ... there should be a moan emoticon

Delia · 03/10/2006 10:42

Debz, were you aware you can get gaviscon on perscription from the doctor?

Debz99 · 03/10/2006 10:53

Yes now I am had first batch two weeks ago and have nearly finished the bottle ! However I carry rennies for work and out and about as the bottles are huge !!!!!!!!

My doctor wouldn't give me gaviscon on prescription, he said i could buy it from the pharmacy! He also had a go when I said my mw told me to get iron tablets, he made some big thing about how the side effects of taking the tablets rule out any good they do, and said it's normal for pregnant women to be low in iron. He eventually gave me a months prescription but told me to only take one a day (instead of the normal 3)
Remind me to see a woman doctor next time, both the men at my surgery are b*stards!

HopingCat · 03/10/2006 11:39

NJ - when was your last mw appointment? I know you don't like going, but it may be worth checking that there is nothing unusual going on. If you think the contraction-thing is dying down again then that's really good, but definitely mention it at your next appointment if you aren't going to call anyone about it today. I was told that the mw appointment at 32 weeks is very important because if anything turns up there is time to fix it before baby comes along. I was actually sent to the hospital at 32 weeks just to make sure all was ok. I'm a first timer though so I probably get more appointments than others anyway.

HopingCat · 03/10/2006 11:46

On the subject of heartburn, I was told that your body can get used to things like Gaviscon after a while, so you are better switching to a different brand or remedy if you have been taking it a while. I also know one pg woman in my parentcraft class who says the best remedy is refresher sweets!

Kaybee - my friend is a midwife at a hospital and she says it drives them mad when women arrive to give birth and the should have been on iron tablets for weeks but weren't given any. She says it is really remiss of them not to pay more attention to this. It used to be that all women were given iron during pregnancy, so it surely can't be true that it doesn't really help? I'm taking 2 per day rather than 3 at the instruction of my mw, as my level was not too bad when it was last tested. Do you know what your level was? Anything below 10.6 apparently requires iron tablets (but this could depend on health authority I suppose)

Kaybee7777 · 03/10/2006 12:08

HC - the doctor said it was borderline...I have looked in my notes and think it might have been 11.4. Anyway, i will try to eat more foods with iron to help. You'd think health professionals could work together instead of one lot telling you one thing and the other lot the opposite!!!

NatalieJane · 03/10/2006 12:21

No more contractions, still got this achy feeling but the discharge has calmed down a bit, it does have a very very very pale pinky tinge to it, but I am feeling a bit better and not so wobbly!!

HC I last saw the midwife at 17 weeks, but I did have my blood pressure done when I had my diabetes test (28 weeks) and all of my bloods were done then as well (iron level was 11.0 which is classed as normal and no iron therapy needed - for who ever it was asking!!)

I am hoping to get away with not seeing the midwife until at least 36 weeks, but if I need to I will make the appointment sooner.

And refreshers are very good at helping heartburn, but I find it comes back very quickly (I tried them because the rennie tablets that I have always taken are exactly like refreshers, so thought I might have saved the extra chemicals and money!)

Debz99 · 03/10/2006 13:19

Glad your feeling a little better NJ but please if the pains start again call someone for advice.

NatalieJane · 03/10/2006 13:30

I am very glad now that I didn't kick up a fuss this morning with either DH or the midwife!!

I have taken some paracetamol for the periody type back pains and they have eased off a bit, belly is still tightening every now and then but not hurting, and still battling the heartburn, but I would rather be coping with heartburn than early labour!!! LOL

Debz99 · 03/10/2006 13:54

You would not have been kicking up a fuss NJ, I bet if you tell your DH tonight he will say why didn't you call me ! LOL

staceym11 · 03/10/2006 14:32

Nj, glad you feel better, i had the same thing last week, not that going into hospital did much other than telling me that it wouldnt be too bad if baby was born at 33 weeks (and me thinking, yeah but i dont want him born at 33 weeks!!!)

if the pain gets worse call labour ward though, ok?????

well a very productive few days, i took dd to toddlers yesterday and got her and dhs doctors sorted, and today we have been swimming!!! think im regaining some energy now its cooled down a bit.

as for iron my level was 10.3 and i was put on tablets but its not often i remember to take them as had to cut down from 3 to one as i couldnt poo!! did have to pin doc down saying mw told me to tell him to give them to me, he didnt seem best pleased!!!

Bethbe · 03/10/2006 16:04

Hi all,

Wow, - you've been chatty! Got my first class tonight - why do they leave it so late? When I first fell pregnant I was desperate for information, - now I just figure that the baby will come out whether or not I go to the classes, - and I'm pretty sure I know how to breath!

Sorry for the small rant, - but, well, NJ I know you prefer not to see midwives, but I've had so little to do with them and it's my first so I kind of feel that I've had to research information myself.

Course, - following this thread has been the best source so thank you all!

I'm really exited that we'll be having the first baby soon. There's aroud 50 due on the stats list!!!

Bethbe

camgirl · 03/10/2006 16:22

Hello all,

I have two weeks left at work (am now 35+3) but am already falling asleep at my desk! Just can't wait to finish now. On the upside, I bought some lovely aromatherapy oils and am hoping to start using them to persudae myself into a state of relaxation.

For those on iron tablets .. I was also borderline (10.6) and - you probably already know this but I just wanted to mention that so many things affect iron absorption: don't eat eggs, drink milk etc right when you've taken the tablet or eaten your iron rich meal - have OJ instead. It's such a pain but hopefully will be worth it.

FoghornLeghorn · 03/10/2006 16:34

Will hopefully be able to catch up fully tonight, am off to hospital in a minute, just waiting for DH to get in from work.
Things haven't been 'right' since Sunday, Saturday was the last time i can remember the baby being its usual active self so am off to the ward for a trace.

NatalieJane · 03/10/2006 17:34

Debz, DH will be more annoyed than anything when he finds out I didn't ring him - he likes to look after me But he will understand why I didn't at the same time.

Bethbe, I think in some ways it is better if you do your own research, at least that way you will get maybe 3/4 different views on things and you can choose which you think is best, instead of someone who thinks they know everything best pressing their views on you. But, I think midwives should be more supportive of those that feel they want more, such as first timers, or people who have had bad experiences in previous pregnancies/labours.

Stacey, I would have rang them if I'd have got more contractions or if they'd have gotten closer together.

FHLH, hope it all goes well at the hospital Let us know when you can.
