Can't reply properly as hectic day, but yes to flu jab for me.

I've had the flu jab already as went to GPs appointment and he mentioned it at the end. Hasn't been too bad at all. Didn't hurt at the time really but have a swollen bump on the needle site now.

NotAQueef · 08/10/2014 15:26

No to flu jab for me, but probably going to have Whooping cough one.
junk glad you had a sympathetic midwife

My next appt isn't until 28w though was told i could have one at 25w if need a matb1. I am supposed to have anti-d injection at 28w but last time this was dine separately at the hospital haven't a clue how it works here. Is this something I can text my midwife about?

zebra hope your nana's ops goes well

coastergirl · 08/10/2014 15:39

I've already had the flu jab too, a couple of weeks ago. I usually have it due to having asthma anyway. Missed it a few years ago and was so poorly with flu for about 3 weeks right over Christmas, so definitely worth it for me. Will probably have the whooping cough one too.

PickledPorcupine · 08/10/2014 17:05

Twitt No they can't do that, cheeky sods!

And for any other teachers who are interested... You can start your mat leave at the start of a term. You do not start it in the holidays (unless your due date is in the hol) and they cannot make you. You can return whenever you want, it does not have to fit their agenda. Can you tell I used to be a union rep?!

Junk The law is blurry on employer contact during sick leave but it needs to be reasonable and they are advised to use their common sense. You would be ok stipulating a time or requesting that contact is made through a third party until you're ready. An example of this was last summer when I texted in sick FROM MY HOSPITAL BED and the reply I received was "send your planning". Needless to say I refused to speak to my ht and my dh did it all and he also requested that all contact go through him as it wasn't helping my recovery.

And yes to all vaccinations for me! I always think it's better to try to avoid it than not try at all (I realise that makes no sense!).

EsmeGreene · 08/10/2014 18:36

Just a note to say hi to all the teachers suffering OFSTED (we seem to have a lot of them in our midst). I have just had the accounting equivalent. Our firm has been inspected by the ICAEW, for auditing, and of all the current staff I am the only one who has done any for the firm, so actually it was me who was inspected! Stressful. But, done now and the report was fine - phew!!

3isthemajicnumber · 08/10/2014 22:14

Evening all.
Yes to all jabs for me as well. Had my whooping cough and flu jab at the same time last year.

I'm rhesus neg as well and have always had my anti d in hospital separately. I think it's standard. Not sure why though?

My ds is crawling. He's driving me up the wall. Makes me think I'm crazy with this age gap. Ha ha. Can't wait though.

DontBeBlueBeARainbow · 09/10/2014 03:54

Hi all,

Butterpuff you mentioned dried blood from the nose, I've had that a couple of days, then last night during the night, I woke up to feel a big gush from my nose similar to when you've got a cold and the snot is flowing, but it was blood! Quite a shock as I've never had a running nosebleed before. Looked it up and it is normal due to hormones as everything is. Luckily it stopped after a couple of minutes. Very weird.

Strange to say that it reassured me in wake of few symptoms and not quite bump yet - nice to feel pregnant. I know it's silly but at 16+3 I've started paying attention to my belly to sense any new sensations, haha. It's DC#1 though so I shouldn't really expect them until after 20-22 weeks...

The time is passing really well, I'm so excited that the 20 weeks scan is in a few weeks time, after that I think I can really start getting excited and buying a few bits online!

Best wishes to all xx

Pinksun12 · 09/10/2014 04:24

3isthemagicnumber what will be your age gap again?

I had my 16 week appointment yesterday with the obgyn and as my husband could be there we splashed out on a private scan since he hadn't seen this one yet (€25! Bargain!) He switched it over to a 4D image and we could clearly see baby drinking the fluid. But all is well, baby actually measures a week bigger than the calculated date, which brings us to the day after DS2's birthday. So hopefully they don't have to share a birthday!

PickledPorcupine · 09/10/2014 06:02

Dontbe I started feeling the baby flutter at 16+5 and it's my first so it might be sooner than you think.

M27J5M · 09/10/2014 08:32

Hi all Smile took me ages to catch up on here, eventually got there! Hope your all well!

Hope your nana is ok zebra!

I'm undecided on the flu jag, just can't make up my mind on it

smokeandglitter · 09/10/2014 10:20

Misty Haha, how strange! That's funny! Lovely that you have two too!

Zebra, how's your nana? Still thinking of you all.

Junk So sorry - I posted at the same time so didn't see yours! It's really good that your midwife is taking it seriously. If it's hindering your recovery/health then I don't think you need to talk to the HT though would ask a member of the family or partner if they can if that's possible. Are things improving at all now you're signed off? Once you've had some time to just be is there someone you can make a plan with, a sort of loose routine with things you feel will benefit your health and help you feel better?

PinkSun The scan sounds great, how wonderful!

Butterpuff Yes, have had cold symptoms from v early on and a yucky nose.

3isthemajicnumber Oh wow, what's your age gap? Sounds like it'll be a lot of fun. A lady I know had 11 months between her current pregnancy and her last little boy. And only a year and a bit between her first two! When she gives birth she'll have three little ones under the age of 4! I'd like my next one soonish after this baby, but I do want a break from being pregnant first to drink wine.

Congrats to everyone who's heard the heartbeat - isn't it wonderful!

Starting to enjoy this a bit more now, despite pelvic pain. Emotionally feeling so much better and loving the fresh autumn air! Off to my weekly work meeting in central london in a mo but looking forward to getting out of the house! Smile Staying at my parents' house the week coming (travelling up friday) which I am so looking forward to! Planning to look at pushchairs with my mum which should be exciting!

junkfoodaddict · 09/10/2014 14:09

3 weeks off due to acute stress. Phoned the head as requested. The phone call was a lot shorter than I thought it would be. She asked me the following: how are you? So-so, I said. Have you been to the GP? Yes, I said. How long have you got off? Three weeks, I said. How can we support you? To which I hesitated. Wasn't expecting that! I had never thought of it except I wanted to simply say 'back off!' I asked, what right now? And she mumbled and said well is rest going to be enough? I said yes. I want to come back and just rest. She said everyone was worried about me (nothing about HER concerns for me!) and then ended the phone call. I got the impression she didn't know how or want to be sympathetic to me. Dreading my return already. Hoping that when I return they leave me alone and allow me to seek support if I need it. One thing I am certain about, not being able to say "I am not going to mark my class's numeracy and literacy books because I am to tired." As that can't happen because I get behind and then children can't respond the following day or do follow up work.

PickledPorcupine · 09/10/2014 18:16

Junk I'm having the same problem. I get told 'you've worked a long week make sure you leave at a good time' and then we have a book scrutiny and it gets picked up that on that one day I didn't mark them so they didn't respond to feedback and blah blah blah. Envy

3isthemajicnumber · 09/10/2014 21:15

Pink sun it will be 14 months. Gulp

ZebraZeebra · 10/10/2014 10:41

Hi everyone! zylab I've done it again - how many weeks are we? Don't know what the hell is up with me - last time I knew to the hour Wink

No to both vaccinations here. DS has severe allergies and it's highly likely this baby will do. What they don't bother to tell you when encouraging vaccinations is all the other things it contains like vaccinations for other things and proteins, some of which would cause an allergic reaction. So for me it's the greater risk to vaccinate. These viruses are rotten but not life threatening if you're fit, healthy and they're managed effectively. Weakened immune systems for any reason though, make it an entirely different ball game so we're fortunate to have those opportunities.

ZebraZeebra · 10/10/2014 10:45

Sorry meant to add - thanks for the well wishes for my nana. She's in theatre right now so crossing my fingers as I travel back to London.

junk so glad to hear you've been signed off. So sorry it's been so stressful. Really hope you can put your feet up and destress for a while.

Durham you poor love. You're such a trooper. If be crying every day if I was a sick as you've been.

Sorry on train and difficult to post. Much love to you all - we're getting there!!

ZylaB · 10/10/2014 11:15

zebra 19 weeks today :). (Half way for me wheeeeeee)

Guntons · 10/10/2014 13:16

Hi All, Just been catching up on the thread!
sorry to hear you are having a tough time with work junkfoodaddict, take your time to try and relax. Good to hear your midwife is understanding and supporting you fully.
I had my 16wk appt on tuesday and heard baby's heartbeat... amazing! Also had my flu jab the same time which was fine and couldn't feel it at all at the time or since - not what I was expecting.
Ive got another mw appointment at beginning of december so that I can be booked in for my glucose tolerance test Sad, which Ive had before as my mum is diabetic. Not looking forward to it as last time I was really poorly afterwards and they wouldn't let me leave hospital for ages, and I had to go on a trace machine for a few hours.
This morning (my day off) I woke up feeling a bit unwell and rapidly deteriorated to a state of sickness, diarrhoea, dizziness, sweating, shaking and finally passing out on the bathroom floor! Luckily my DH hadn't yet left for work so could help me and get our son to school etc. It was so scary, I'm still really weak and have the worlds worst headache, but thankfully no other symptoms since 7am. I phoned my Dr and she said to rest for a few days and call medicom if it happens again. Terrifying. I had a similar turn when pregnant with my son, which resulted in a 2 day migraine (the first time I'd experienced a migraine so was very scared then too). So Im kind of thinking now its the same sort of thing, although it happened a lot earlier on in my first pregnancy. Ive taken a paracetamol but its not touching the headache at all.
I think Im a bit more paranoid as when I had mc last september it was after a bout of gastro-enteritis at 7 weeks pregnant, and the dizziness & sickness this morning just took me back to when I had that illness & lost the baby a couple of weeks later.
Anyway Ive managed to eat something now and do feel better, I just feel really guilty as my son had a friend coming round for tea after school today for the first time and I had to text the boys mum and cancel Sad. My boy was devastated this morning. I guess at 4 years old, friends coming to play is what you live for when you don't yet have a sibling!
On brighter note I love my new job but still not plucked up the courage to tell them Im pregnant. Its getting difficult to hide, but I rarely see any management as I am supporting college students with learning difficulties in their lessons, so there never really seems to be the right time and its a big campus, with a short-staffed learning support department. I really want to tell someone next week, but theres also a lot of staff sickness at the moment I feel like everything is working against me actually telling those who matter.

Sorry Ive just realised Ive written a total essay, apologies for boring you all with my babbling Blush

coastergirl · 10/10/2014 15:29

Guntons that sounds absolutely horrible. Hope you are resting up!

Gudgyx · 10/10/2014 15:38

Aw poor Guntons! I'm suffering from bad headaches just now as well, only thing that has helped me is the migraine strips from the pound shop! Get three in a packet, just stick them to your head, they're freezing and really ease the pain. Could give them a try if you are struggling

Guntons · 10/10/2014 16:29

Thanks Gudgyx, I think I've actually got some of those in my medicines drawer - Ive had a little nap this afternoon which has helped the headache slightly but still feeling wiped out Sad

Guntons · 10/10/2014 16:31

My son cried when my mum picked him up from school & told him his friend wasn't coming round today -Guilty Mummy Alert! After a milkshake & a muffin I think he's almost forgiven me...
