gun I'd definitely contact the midwife and get it checked. Piece of mind.

YellowWellies · 01/09/2014 20:12

Last time we told my sister and our parents that my waters had broken as he was early and needed the moral support and frankly we wanted to share the excitement. We also warned them our phones would then be off. After the birth we didn't really have time or inclination to call until at least a couple of hours after - what with stitches, delivering the placenta, seeing him weighed and measured, giving him cuddles and trying to BF. But he was born at 4.20 in the morning so no one was exactly waiting with baited breath. I think DH rang folks at 7am. As fed up says it was lovely starting our relatives day with news not only of his safe arrival but also of his gender and name. In today's world where so many announce name and sex on FB before they're born - a genuine surprise is rare.

This time my sister will know as she'll be getting j delivered to her and I think we'll let parents and best pals in on it too.

bugs what does clary sage do? That's the second time I've heard it in a few days but I have no idea of what it's supposed to do.

YellowWellies · 01/09/2014 20:16

Goats the head is lighter?! Confused I'm holding a 22 month old as we speak and I just can't envisage the head being lighter than the ass - especially at this stage when there's not much in the way of fat deposits to counter balance the weight of the skull. I still haven't found anyone who has spun a baby! Smile

Clary sage can bring on contractions (and make them stronger) not something I'd touch until you know how strong your natural contractions are, and whether you can handle them. Its useful if labour stalls though.

Thanks yellow.

I have 11 more days in work! I am taking some extra holidays over the next 3 weeks as the thought of having being in 5 days in a row was fairly unbearable!
How did the rest of you get on today?
I nearly cried twice today, keep getting overwhelmed by emotion when I am talking to people about development or potential. Must be freaky for them!

Lily31 · 01/09/2014 20:52

Grin excited I am exactly the same, got emotional every time someone asked me how I was getting on and how the PGP is?

Not sure where to get raspberry leaf tea binky. Was going to try sainsbury's. Maybe that's naive of me...

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 01/09/2014 20:54

Most of the eviction methods are old wives tales, for example you would have to eat about 10 pineapples before it had any effect! (what yellow said about clary sage oil though). I am planning on lots of walking and sex as I think those are actually proven methods, certainly for me anyway.

I think DH called people to tell them DS was here about and hour after he was born (he was born at 4am!), I then called them again around 7am as I didn't realise DH had done it Grin I didnt tell anyone I was in labour though as I didnt want the annoying text messages!

Georgebythesea · 01/09/2014 20:57

My NCT lady said raspberry leaf tea bags not so great and to get the proper stuff..I got some from Neals yard but guess not everywhere has one of those.Haven't started it yet though(35+2),guess will start thatand the perineal massage at 36 weeks...

YellowWellies · 01/09/2014 21:02

Yes to walking on a sandy beach in particular! Walking on loose sand is really meant to help bring on labour. Waddling round Tesco was enough for me last time mindst.

Lily31 · 01/09/2014 21:12

Ooohhh George glad you mentioned the perineal massage. Without having to divulge anything you don't want to, has anyone found it makes a difference?
My guide says either you or your partner can do it. Think I might just try myself, not sure I'd feel comfortable with him doing that whilst we sit down to the xfactor of a Saturday night...

kittyvet · 01/09/2014 21:19

Got my raspberry leaf tea at Holland and Barrett. It tastes ok. Apparently you gradually increase amt drunk from 32 weeks

Me23 · 01/09/2014 21:35

Here's an article delving into the research behind perineal massage
www.scienceandsensibility.org/?p=5899

As for bringing on labour, nothing has actually been proved to work. Though sex is thought to be te best bet. Rlt is not supposed to bring on labour but is thought to help tone the uterus and make the second stage of labour shorter I used it in first pregnancy and had a short 2nd stage of 20 mins obv could just be coincidence.
Baby will come when they are good and ready whether we like it or not!

Have my 34 week appt tomorrow baby is quite low now starting to engage feel her bouncing on cervix (ouch)

Oh gun please do not ignore visual disturbances you need to get checked out, hopefully all is well but just because bloods were fine last week, things can change rapidly with PET, sorry I don't mean to scare you just want you to be ok!

MundayCakes85 · 01/09/2014 21:36

Lily in the interest of science I've just had a go- quite awkward to get both thumbs down there so will try alternate positions next time. Only did a couple of minutes.
So think it might be something to try on your own after a nice bath Confused

Kirstipops · 01/09/2014 21:51

This is the (loose leaf) raspberry leaf tea I got from Ebay, its pretty pleasant actually! £4.50 for 200g bag which looks somewhere between grass and loft insulation! I have it with a wee drop of honey.
Had my 36 week check today, midwife was really shocked I'm still working and told me to go home and get my massive feet up, was nice to feel vindicated hehe. Given the pressure on my fanjo at the weekend I expected to be told that baby was even a bit engaged but apparently s/he's still "free". MW also commented on the chugging heartbeat, which has birled me round to wondering if I'm carrying "blue", silly as that is....

Lily31 · 01/09/2014 22:12

Thanks Munday and me, will see how it goes, think a hot bath is the best option.

Thanks for the link kirsti - will get that ordered.

Totally shattered, hope everyone gets some rest tonight. I know some people have been struggling with sleep. I try and stop drinking a couple of hrs before bed an it means I only wake up once or twice for a pee. Can't suggest anything for the hip pain waking people up, other than codeine Confused which I've been prescribed... Don't really like taking it often but it does help sleep if I need it.

fedupofrainydays · 01/09/2014 22:30

Is it train that supposed to be boy and horse that's a girl?! HB that is. As mine was very train like last time....!

Kirstipops · 01/09/2014 22:34

Yep fedup that's the old wives tale that I've been told, every time but one it has sounded like a train!

fatpony · 01/09/2014 22:37

We've got the baby beats app and he sounds very much like a chugging train!

fedupofrainydays · 01/09/2014 22:41

Has anyone had a horse one?! Partic those expecting a girl (and know they are?!)

Bumpforme2014 · 02/09/2014 07:03

Argh so tired, woke up at 1am with sore right hip and restless legs, didn't get back to sleep until 3.30 and now up for work boooooo this is first time my hips have started to hurt I used a breast feeding pillow for legs which seem to help a bit but still sore this morning!

Missus2ndwife · 02/09/2014 07:08

Re Hip Pain: we discussed it in preggers yoga last night. Apparently it caused by tension in the butt (from posture, strain of carrying baby etc)
Give yourself a mini massage with a tennis ball. Place ball between yourself and wall and move around
It feels surprisingly good Grin
