The hair loss was -really- annoying last time. I have thin hair but lots of it, felt like a bloody sheep dog! It didn't seem to make my hair look any thinner though, I think its literally your body shedding the hair it didn't whilst you are pregnant.

I think the 2nd baby arriving early thing is a bit of an old wives tale, my friend was overdue with both of hers. I am told there is some truth to second labours being quicker though. My last labour was only 4hrs total so DH better get his catchers mitt ready this time Grin

Just ordered a new mattress for our bed on groupon, I am SO looking forward to it arriving, our old one is knackered and not helping the sleeping situation at all! Was very tempted to order a new bed at the same time but managed to restrain myself!

Might have been shared already but this site is supposed to be the bible for breech babies - spinningbabies.com/

clops2000 · 01/09/2014 12:46

yellow good to hear your baby's trying to turn! How do you know that's what s/he's doing? And how do you know it wasn't successful?
Mine had been really active these past few days with some real alien-style bumps emerging but I just assumed that was because I was now 35+ weeks and there was less space. I get lots of movement on right side just under ribs so I think that might be where his feet are, but a baby curled up could have feet and head at top and bum still be downward right? And the movement could be elbows, knees anyway I guess. I find working out his position to be virtually impossible, any advice from people much appreciated as I'm so hoping he'll still turn!

YellowWellies · 01/09/2014 12:47

Jelly I've heard so many recommendations for Spinning Babies yet they always start with 'it didn't work for me and I spent weeks watching telly on my hands and knees, but this site is great...'.

I can see the logic for turning a back to back or trying to shift a breech baby who has engaged, but I can't see how inverting myself would help to spin a footling breech that isn't engaged - given that the head of the baby (the heaviest bit) is at the top - surely it's only walking that would help to move the baby's head down. If I invert myself gravity will just pull the head up toward my ribcage - exactly where I don't want it. I appreciate it might make more room in my uterus but given this is my second and that I'm a pretty avid yoga fiend - I'd think it's likely to be pretty roomy and stretchy for baby to turn anyway.

Clops at this stage - when they try to turn I've certainly found even with an anterior placenta, it is quite obvious. A painful, cartwheel type motion internally - with the bump being stretched at the sides as limbs try to propel themselves up and over, it feels like a washing machine revolving in your belly and is much fiercer than normal wriggles and kicks. It was forceful enough last night to wake me up and I sleep like the dead.

In terms of telling placement, I can tell where the baby's head is because it is much harder and rounder than the bum which feels squishy when palpated. Arm movements are quite gentle and tickle whereas leg movements are the ones that make me wince. I do rate the Spinning Babies pages on belly mapping as a very useful tool for trying to figure out how the baby is lying. I am relieved that whilst breech, this little one isn't back to back (I'm getting no jabs or kicks against the outside of my stomach), but then J turned on the day he was born. It might just be that my pelvis has a tilt that forces babies to come out back to back though so if I go naturally I'm almost expecting another B2B.

Oh my word - I'm due this month Shock Excited, and scared at the same time. I have had a frankly rotten nights sleep - I seemed to wake every 2 minutes for a pee as my little man seemed to be doing some serious bladder head butting and general wriggling. Then I got all hot, and finally my daughter decided it was appropriate to sing songs at the top of her voice at 3am Confused. The lack of sleep thing again freaks me out a bit…..
I am definitely getting to the 'ouchy' stage of pregnancy - everything seems epic, even trying to put my own socks on!!!
Re washing baby clothes we use Surecare washing liquid and conditioner as both my dh and I suffer from various skin conditions. It's great stuff.
Yes - 41 weeks is the gestation period in France. My in-laws are permanently confused with my due dates lol.
I think I may have to sit on the sofa again and not do very much……..

Hmm, MW this morning. protein in wee & a bit puffy, though blood pressure ok. MW has taken bloods & more wee & have to call for results tomorrow. MW I hadn't met before today, wish I'd had her all along. Explained everything clearly, answered Q's, took my wishes for birth plan seriously, wasn't patronising, no woo & complimented my shoes. Awesome. First time anything's been other than fine yet an calmer and more reassured than I have been after any other appt. Baby has turned too, thank goodness!

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 01/09/2014 15:22

Sorry yellow, must be annoying getting told the same thing over and over! Fingers crossed baby manages to turn for you Smile

Scan this morning showed breech baby still but as I'm booked in for a section anyway I suppose it doesn't matter. I'm having growth scans due to small first baby but he's on target for 7lbs 9oz at 39 weeks at the moment! Might have to rethink my facebook guess of 6lbs 6oz... And also pack fewer tiny baby clothes (these were still huge on my dd at birth). Definitely a boy though - saw a very clear willy! I'm going to get on and Ebay the girls' items I've been holding onto just in case.

So tired at the moment, hardly sleeping due to discomfort and heartburn. Barely stayed awake at work today. Only 6 days left though over the next two weeks and then all going well a whole week of no work before baby arrives.

I wonder how long it will be until we have our second thread baby!? Empathy vibes to all those struggling in these last few weeks. It will soon be a distant memory.

ohthegoats · 01/09/2014 17:11

Scan this morning showed mine is all good - but not a surprise after last Friday's midwife appointment anyway. Not too small - still under 6lbs at 36 weeks, but that's OK.

First day back at work also surprisingly OK. I'm only in class for 6 days until I have a handover week, my replacement seems switched on, and I don't feel half as knackered as I thought. Had to dash home for an hour when some plumbing went wrong mid afternoon, so back at work now to actually get things finished, but I think I should be able to manage. My boss has put me down for running some after school stuff for parents in my last two days at work which is a bit unfair I think, but never mind. That'll be 38+4 and 38+5, so I need to get the baby out before then - that'll show him!!

Interestingly, at hospital this morning there were a LOT of women wandering around in labour. Just in the normal corridors, not in assessment unit or on the delivery suite. One poor woman in the lift on all fours when we got in (nice wake up call for my boyfriend), with her bloke sort of saying "what do you want me to do? touch you? not touch you?" she was just growling back! Then two women pushed very fast in wheel chairs through the normal ultrasound waiting room (bit scary), then two more being wheeled in in their nightclothes with frantic looking men following with bags and cushions when we were on our way out past the assessment unit.

My boyfriend just asked quite quietly "when you're doing that, do you want me to touch you, or not?" haha.. poor man, bit shocked I think. He's not been to the hospital with me since 20 weeks, which was a late afternoon appointment - seems the early appointments I normally go to alone are busier for the overnight labourers to arrive, I see them quite often.

I've got a great pictures that shows how it works - well, shows how in theory it COULD work. I'll post it when I'm home later.

Evening everyone! So nice to catch up on everyone's posts after being in the office all day. Down to 14 days left... goats asking you to do after school stuff at that stage is a bit harsh. I realised today that a lot of people at work are a bit envious of me going on mat leave. I can understand why, it's pretty hectic at the moment.

Tried using the belly map, I really can't work out which way bubba is lying! So many different movements and in lots of different places.

Mrsthedog · 01/09/2014 19:26

Just wanted to say good luck to the mammas due to give birth in September (and good luck to my fellow Octobresses who would be a bit shocked if it happened this month...)

Puppy and I are talking at the moment about how and when to let family and friends know a) when you are in labour and b) the arrival, gender, weight etc. of the blessed child.

There is something to be said for keeping the birth to ourselves so for just a couple of hours after birth, the magical moment belongs just to us but I wanted to ask what your ideas were on it. Have you got a plan?

Why is it pregnancy turns you into a panicking mess?
Does anyone know what PE visual disturbances are like or if there's a explanation somewhere.
My PE bloods came back fine that was a week ago but the headaches are still here and now I'm getting flashing lights I had a full blown migrane light display yesterday which I just put down to a normal migrane but today I'm now getting those little flashing lights you get when you sit down or stand up quickly but when I'm sitting down doing nothing. Not due to be seen for another 8 days so don't know if I should pop down the docs tomorrow to check bp or if I'm being a worrier. There's no swelling.

I also managed to catch a bit of the green yuk that's been coming out of me the stuff on the tissue was more like jelly I'm wondering if it's just bits of plug it would explain why there's no infection but I'm getting greeny yuk coming out of me.

fedupofrainydays · 01/09/2014 19:37

My sister knew I was in labour and a few other people who were due to come round to visit that day! But I didn't tell any one else. My NCT knew my plug had gone as well (as you find yourselves talking about that stuff!) but i was in labour for days so no one really knew when he would finally arrive!!

Then after the birth I called my mum a couple of hours later (was the middle of the night) and she cried! then told other family and good friends come morning. Assume will do similar this time! It was really exciting telling them he had arrived, it was a boy and his name!
I love hearing others new baby news - it's so exciting and I nearly always cry!!

gunwalloe · 01/09/2014 19:39

I will only be telling the kids and my parents who will have the kids as soon as she arrived. Everyone knows the day sadly but not the time as that's dependant on how busy the hospital is with emergencys on the day of the cs

SweetPeaPods · 01/09/2014 19:53

Gun I would phone your mw.
I had pre eclampsia with ds, and a couple of wks ago my eyes went funny. Flashing lights, black spots, out of focus etc. mw saw me next day to check urine and bp.

I'm being very naughty tonight, ordered a dominoes pizza! It was all I fancied. But some cookies managed to sneak their way in too Wink

SweetPeaPods · 01/09/2014 19:57

Meant to ask what raspberry leaf tea is everyone drinking ?

binkybunny · 01/09/2014 20:05

Where do you get Raspberry Leaf Tea from, is it in health shops?

My mum is one of my birthing partners and she's five hours away (we're happy that if she doesn't make it it'll just be DH) she'll need to let my gran know to house sit, so I'm sure my entire family will know I'm in labour within the hour. We have no problems with that though and we'll be announcing the birth as soon as possible. But... we announced the pregnancy to friends and family the day I got my bfp so that's just who we are Grin.

gunwalloe · 01/09/2014 20:05

Thanks sweet was everything ok at your check?

I'm not doing anything to aid eviction of the baby I want her to stay put until the cs at 39 weeks

ohthegoats · 01/09/2014 20:05

Bum, I can't find that picture - it must be in a book I was reading on my Kindle or something. I've currently got a load of books on breech birth in my house because a midwife loaned them to a friend, and I'll see the midwife now my friend has had her C-section. Yep, didn't work for her either.

Basically it was something about the head being lighter and sort of floating up - so if your pelvis is at the top, it will float the head around to the top. Rather than it being heavier like we'd all assume. Maybe it only works if your children are destined to be airheads... (she says - I think it worked for me!)

ohthegoats · 01/09/2014 20:08

I don't want anyone to know I'm in labour - especially my mum, who will then just worry. Birth announcement by phone conversation by boyfriend to: my parents, his parents, my brother, his cousin - in that that order. Everyone else can wait until we get around to it - which considering some of our friends don't even know I'm pregnant, might be never. Haha.. maybe we'll Facebook it at some point, is probably easiest option.
