A few babies have already arrived, with more due to make their entrance soon, and it's not even September yet!

Hello, I've been lurking on this forum for a few weeks, so thought I'd finally say hello! I'm 38 + 2 & am scheduled for a Caesarian on Tuesday 2 September at 39 weeks. However I was admitted to the ward last night with contractions. Only 1 cm dilated so they are monitoring me. I'm really hoping they'll do my section later today, as I'm in so much pain!! It's been a really difficult pregnancy (which is why I haven't previously posted) and I've been admitted 5 times for kidney stones & kidney infections over the course of the last five months. I just want to meet this baby now :) This is my second. My first birth was very traumatic - forceps, 3rd degree tear, PPH & retained placenta. So, I really want something a bit less dramatic this time!

Congratulations to everyone who's welcomed their little bundles of joy into the world! Thinking of you all who are up feeding/ in hospital / not able to sleep!

cookielove · 28/08/2014 06:17

slithy he's on a harder teat already :)

Marjal12 · 28/08/2014 07:20

Was offered ECV but turned it down after reading too many horror stories about cords getting wrapped round baby's neck, placental abruption, and pain. The success rates didn't seem to warrant the risks. I really don't want a section for many reasons but if baby doesn't turn of it's own accord, will just have to resign myself! My trust don't offer vaginal birth with breech presentation - I get the impression I'd have a fight on my hands if I wanted to go that route, but after talking to my mum about my own birth (feet first breech), I don't think I'd want that anyway!
The frozen peas will be coming out later to encourage this one's head to move down! But first, I have viewers coming to see our house later so massive amounts of cleaning to do! And 24 cupcakes to bake for my daughter's last day in nursery tomorrow. Playgroup starts next week...
Good luck to everyone contracting!

TheOnlySeven · 28/08/2014 08:28

Good luck two's

Hi frolie, hope you get to meet your baby soon :)

TeamEponine · 28/08/2014 08:32

The success rates didn't seem to warrant the risks.

My thoughts exactly! I wasn't too keen on the CS initially, but I'm getting my head around it slowly.

CumbrianExile · 28/08/2014 08:49

Good luck Two's and Frolie hope you both get to meet your little ones soon.

DearDinah · 28/08/2014 08:55

Good luck twos & LH exciting!!
I woke up this morning & had a show, not gonna get too excited as I know they can come weeks before anything happens, but also read it could be a sign baby has engaged, perhaps she's turned in the night? Will find out tomorrow at scan.
I refused ECV because they have me a leaflet which says it's successful 4 out of 10 attempts! Not really great odds for something so distressing. Also MW's said I have tight stomach muscles so wasn't expecting that to be a great help.
Wow, maybe by the end of today our thread will have some new little bundles to coo over! Smile

DearDinah · 28/08/2014 08:56

Good luck & welcome frolie

Missingcaffeine · 28/08/2014 10:09

Hi all!
I was on here quite a bit in the early days, when I worked shifts, but then changed job and couldn't keep up with your postings as was working long hours everyday. Started maternity leave this week though, so I'm back! I'm 36+5, due Sep 20th, team blue, first baby.
Congratulations to those who already have their babies!
Feels really strange to be on maternity leave. Can't quite get my head round it. Still got lots of nesting to do. Only bought car seat and crib so far. Half packed hospital bag. What else do I need?! Do I need to get a bouncer? Breast pump? What are you guys doing with your maternity leave? My sympathy goes out to those of you still working - I really struggled towards the end.

RedToothBrush · 28/08/2014 10:25

AlwaysandForever09 · 28/08/2014 10:29

Good luck to anyone that's in labour! Feel like nothing is happening for me, been bouncing on my ball, that curry last week did nothing though! Sorry tmi, but DTD felt quite uncomfortable the other day, but determined to keep trying anything! I'm 38 weeks today due 11th Sept, so guess I'm being impatient! Off to see a midwife today though as been getting headaches for quite a few days now and paracetamol not helping.
Welcome to the newbies and people returning who we haven't spoke to for a whole! There's lots going on ATM hard to keep up with everyone!

ilovemonstersinc · 28/08/2014 10:39

Thanks red.

Why are the guinea pigs a risk? Confused
Could you keep them in a different room tothe baby if you had to?

Hv coming today. Baby has been a bit sickly so hope it's not reflux like eldest. He was sick from this age. And still is.

Cookie what pump are you using? I have the medela hand pump and my hands are killing now! I put him on me here and there mainly last feed of the day at 9ish when I have time to sit and let him feed of me when the others are asleep otherwise im getting nearly 3oz per pumping session every 3 to 4 hours.

Still got a bit of spd but can sleep on tummy now Grin

Acorncat · 28/08/2014 10:45

I'm due on the 7th but not really trying anything to speed it up. Plan to keep going for walks everyday, that's about it. Started mat leave this week and just bored so far. Washed all the baby clothes and bedding which was a big step for me! I'm pretty sure it'll be late, absolutely no signs so far. Though my blood pressure is creeping up so if that's not down by next week I guess that'll change things. I really wanted to use the MW led birth centre but it seems everything has to be totally low risk, which high blood pressure will rule out. I don't mind going overdue, unless there's a risk to baby of course. Only reason not to is wasting mat leave and not actually having the baby yet!

Can't believe how many births there have been already and we're still in august!

slithytove · 28/08/2014 10:51

Wrt ecv - from my research, apparently the ones which work are quick, painless and low risk.

And you can tell within about a minute if it will work. Otherwise, just stop. It was obvious to use after one attempt at turning that DD was never going to turn, so we stopped before risking fetal distress or maternal pain etc.

Just something to think about if you are considering elcs anyway.

RedToothBrush · 28/08/2014 10:55

I am trying to work out why guinea pigs are a risk....

They are in the kitchen / lounge area, and this is apparently a potential issue. I can find NOTHING which gives me cause for concern tbh. But I'm extremely concerned about the HV and not giving any cause for concern to them (they are worried about my anxiety, so I feel under observation already so I'm really paranoid about it, and feel like I now have to move them, unless I can find compelling evidence not to). Left to my own devices, I wouldn't blink about it.

Moving them is a problem in itself... we can't do it until the weekend at the earliest, and that still leaves the issue of where the hell to. Plus one of them is a very elderly 7, and I'm not sure how well she would cope with it.

Oh and white yes, it was me about the camera. Grin Hope it proves to be a hit; I'm sure it will.

velvetlilithi · 28/08/2014 11:04

I'm due on 27th, cant wait to have my baby boy already though. On the other side want him to wait couple of weeks as only 35+5 and sometimes feel really not ready at all. Anyone else feels the same? I started my mat leave on Monday and glad I did as I cant imagine still be at work. I know Im only 35 weeks but even the last couple of weeks were terrible standing on my feet all day and sometimes not even able to get a break.

Getting mild period cramps for last 4 days, strong BH. Baby pushing down there a lot. Dont know if its a head or not. Was breech two weeks ago but last week mw said he's not anymore. Im not sure cause I didnt feel any major turning or anything and still feel a hard round part in my ribs. Will see next week, fingers crossed.

So far spending my mat leave by washing all baby clothes and batch cooking. Hospital bag and labour bag ready, just need to top up with CD and some snacks and drinks. And Tens machine which should come on Tuesday, yaaaay. Want to have a water birth but thought it could be useful for the time before I get into the water to survic contractins.

Dont know why but feel really down today.

TwosaCrowd · 28/08/2014 11:04

10cm dilated, going to start pushing soon! Epidurals are the best thing ever.

velvetlilithi · 28/08/2014 11:11

Two Good luck, not long before you meet your little one. Thinking of you!!

lilone1234 · 28/08/2014 11:12

red I don't see any reason that guinea pigs being in the same vicinity is an issue. It's not like you're planning to put the baby in the hutch with them!

Welcome back missing!

Good luck two!

OP posts:
velvetlilithi · 28/08/2014 11:15

RedTooth Dont get that risk part either. If you follow normal hygiene rules I'd say there's not aby special risk from them. Its even safer than cat or dog as they are locked and cant get everywhere. Hope you find something online you can use to proof HV it's not an issue.

LH1981 · 28/08/2014 11:17

Good luck Twos!!
Still not sure what's going on with me! Cramping and very uncomfortable, didn't sleep a wink, but no obvious progression.
I've been into hospital 3 times overnight with premature labour contractions in the last month, first two times no change to the cervix, the last time (last week) the cervix was very thin and soft and I think it will be soon. Hey ho, I'll be term on Sunday (37 weeks) which means if I can hold off until then I can have my home birth.

Glad I'm not the only one with sleep issues! Thought it was just me! I get the odd night's sleep but mostly I'm awake most of the night with a mixture of reflux, being plain uncomfy and just general unexplained insomnia! It's driving me mad! Especially listening to DH snoring soundly beside me!

xx

velvetlilithi · 28/08/2014 11:18

Ups sorry for mistakes in my posts. Pregnancy brain and stupid tablet keyboard not a good combination. Confused

xxmissbrightsidexx · 28/08/2014 11:24

Good luck Twos :D
Welcome back MissingCaffeine x

Very grumpy today :( so much pressure going on down there it's painful for me to move. Plus side I've just bought a birthing ball so hopefully that'll help with the pain. Shattered I just need a nice warm bath & a good sleep, wishful thinking x

dontevenblink · 28/08/2014 11:34

Wow I've missed a lot in a couple of days! Good luck twos!! And welcome to everyone new/returning Smile

I'm rubbish at typing on my phone, so this will be short for now, but feeling really uncomfortable now, really struggled today. My spd has really flared up now Sad Really hoping baby stays put until wed though, every twinge I worry somethings going to start! Really don't want a mad rush to hospital... I'm 38+3 now.

cookielove · 28/08/2014 11:54

ilove I am using a medela swing! Which I was given by a parent I babysit for! The only problem I have is that my other boob leaks when I pump Hmm

I am thinking of buying another one so I can pump at the same time and hopefully get more, I am only get about 20mls but thats better than a few days ago which was 5ml.

I put Eli on the boob before every feed, sometimes he'll take something other times he arches his back, he may also open his mouth but fall asleep. Then I give him a bottle. Which he drinks well from.
