A few babies have already arrived, with more due to make their entrance soon, and it's not even September yet!

Cookie, you poor thing. Take it easy.

Ok. stupid question alert….how the hell will I know if I am in labour?
Have had a sore lower back for a few days and on and off period type pains in my tummy since Saturday morning. I put the sore back down to DH's car and the period type pains down to wind (sorry tmi). Think bump may have dropped a bit but am being really idiotic and worry that I can't really tell. Am 35 + 5 but baby is currently 7 and a bit lbs and massive so anything is possible, i guess. 3 weeks on Thurs till section….

Went back to work today. It is only meetings and INSET for today and tomorrow but I got home and fell straight asleep. Absolutely exhausted. Have asked to move start date of maternity leave forward by a week, but no response as yet. Don't mind hugely if they say no; love my school and will miss it, HOWEVER, V v v v v concerned at vvvv real possibility of going into labour at school. It didn't (somehow) seem possible when i asked for initial maternity leave dates….now, however, oh yes, it seems a v real, v scary possibility. Why am i SOOOOO silly?

ShowMeShowMeTheWine · 26/08/2014 19:31

Can't afford to go privat unfortunately.
She's sent my pee off to be tested but said it could be nothing. Doesn't feel like a uti so not too worried about that.
No idea why she thinks I'll go over! She just said to be prepared and get in the mind set, something about not being in the right frame of mind?!
Cookie- I had a tear with dd that the stitches came out and left a gaping hole. Had reconstructive surgery about 6/8 weeks after the birth. Was ok so try not to worry. Sometimes it can knit together with antibiotics but if not it's only a little op to fix it Thanks bless it's horrible though isn't it?

KatharineClover · 26/08/2014 20:03

Sorry to hear about your stitches cookie x

Feeling ridiculously emotional tonight, just had a cry about having so much to do, DH is sympathetic but telling me to how to bed won't get anything done so I won't be able to sleep anyway. Desperately trying to get some nesting cleaning done but never seem to get beyond the absolute bare minimum and it is starting to get to me. I was relaxed at this stage with DS as I was convinced he'd be late, but as he was two days early I already feel on high alert; I'm 38 weeks tomorrow. holls I also have back ache and period style aches, I think they are due to the baby getting lower but they are making me panic a bit. Ordinarily I'd brush it off I think just because I'm feeling a bit down I'm getting anxious. On the plus side, when I was actually in labour there was no mistaking it, contractions were very quickly every 3 mins (then every 2 mins), so hoping this time will be similarly obvious too.

oh yeah I have started getting sore groin too! don't want things to progress too quickly cos knowing my luck there will be a massive queue for theatre...!!!

Inbl00m · 26/08/2014 20:28

Aw it seems like everyone is in tears this week. I had a huge cry on the sofa to DH yesterday. Was just sobbing about nothing in particular. A bit about being scared of labour, a bit about not feeling 'ready' with things like hospital bag, and a bit about finishing work at the end of this week and everything changing. It's a lot to take in isn't it!

Cookie hope you're ok.

Top thanks for sharing your birth story. Love reading about how everybody is getting on Smile

topmammy · 26/08/2014 21:21

Ouch cookie Sorry you are having problems with your stitches. Sounds like it must be sore. I am totally paranoid of my stitches getting infected. I have a slight gaping at the top of the cut where my mum couldn't quite stitch it up completely as I was so swollen from the numbing stuff they put there before they cut me. Hoping this will knit together on its own. Scary.

lilone by the proper pushing stage I think I had to be on my back due to the bit of cervix that was in the way. It was the best position for it to dilate or something. I asked to go on my side though as my back was hurting. I don't think realistically I had the energy or strength to be 'active' / moving positions. If I'd tried to use my legs to support my weight during a contraction I'm pretty sure I'd not have managed it. It was very hard work lol. But like I said, all worth it in the end Smile

Cindy5389 · 26/08/2014 21:22

Cookie - Sorry to hear about the trouble with ur stitches. Hopefully the antibiotics will work and u will b sorted soon.

Inbl00m - I'm having panic attacks/feeling upset about finishing work on Monday and not being mentally prepared that everything is going to change both with baby and work. It's so strange that work has been the only thing I have had to really concentrate on for the last 6 years, getting to management, and now the baby will b priority and will I really have the same drive when I return.. I just wish Monday was here already so I can just try and forget about work. It's a mixture of the cover not being up to standard or ending up being so good that they r disappointed when I come back.

I hope baby doesn't wait around too long after I finish work otherwise i will prob spend the time thinking about work!

Pineapple, curries ect at the ready for Monday night!!

cbmb12 · 26/08/2014 21:29

Due on the 6th...eep! Think he's going to be late. Am only 3/5 engaged (2/5 in the pelvis) but the baby is HUGE!

I just ate the hottest curry on the planet. It's called Devilled Squid and is basically a case of find the squid pieces buried in the mountain of extra hot chillies! I'm on fire but here's hoping!!

TheOnlySeven · 26/08/2014 21:50

cookie sorry to hear about your stitches and the infection, hope it's not too painful and heals quickly.

top thanks for sharing your birth story :)

I've had lower back pains and BH for over a week and despite being DC4 I'm still worried whether I'll know when it's labour. Tbh I'm really hoping my waters go first as it's such an obvious sign that things are happening! Trying to be realistic though and telling myself that I couldn't possibly mistake the contractions with my other babies.

I'm 37 weeks tomorrow, we had a hot curry for tea tonight and also had sex, which we hadn't done for weeks. TMI but if anyone has still been enjoying it regularly how do you usually feel afterwards? I've had what feels like period pain ever since, not sure if it could be a sign of things starting or if that's just normal after sex at this stage?

TheOnlySeven · 26/08/2014 21:52

LH you're obviously on 'operation get this baby out' as well then. I've ordered clary sage oil too which should hopefully arrive tomorrow.

I've actually heard nipple stimulation isn't a great idea as it could cause the contractions to be too strong and limit babies oxygen supply or something, not sure whether there's any truth in that though!

lilone1234 · 26/08/2014 22:28

theonly I believe I have read/heard that sex itself (and orgasm in particular I think) causes the uterus to contract anyway so that could be it.

ella feeding her pineapple and twiddling her nipples lol bet that was not a mental image you needed!

top Thanks for answering my questions!

Lil - I think it's the prostaglandins in semen that are meant to help trigger labor. My mum swears it worked for her... My poor brothers face when she told us that was priceless!

Ella - yes I'm all ready, just waiting for the travel system to be delivered on Thursday

I'd like to go for a long walk to see if that triggers anything, but my pelvis clicks with every step, soo painful!

lilone1234 · 26/08/2014 22:50

Yes it is the prostoglandins that are meant to soften the cervix, but i'm pretty sure that orgasm also causes uterus to contract (not the same as labour though!) and that's why you can feel a bit funny after - think it's one of the reasons women (myself included) get put off during pregnancy!

Let's face it, we'll try anything to get it going! Grin

Marjal12 · 27/08/2014 00:04

I'm getting scanned every week now on Wednesdays with the possibility that I could be taken in for immediate induction, so needless to say my DH thinks his luck is in every Tuesday night! I just think this could be it for 6-7 weeks, so may as well give him what he wants ;-)
Cookie, that sounds very ouchy - have you been recommended anything natural to help? I swore by sterile gauzes soaked in witch hazel last time round - just popped them in on top of a maternity pad every time I went to the loo. Keep them in the fridge for extra relief. I also got a great spray from Amazon called 'Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Spray' which is especially for post-birth stitches and piles. All natural and really soothing. The midwife who checked my stitches at home actually complimented me on how fast they healed and I totally credit the gauzes and that spray. I just ordered a bottle for this time round last night to get prepared. Also got my car seat adaptors for the pram and Moses basket sheets. Baby can come now!
Heart goes out to the family on August group - did anyone see One Born Every Minute USA this week? There was a couple featured who'd had 2 miscarriages and a stillborn son in the space of 2 years. When their little boy arrived safely I was in floods... So upsetting to imagine going through such a loss.
