Hiya so this will probably be our last ante natal thread GrinGrin Really hope that our postnatal thread is as busy.
You ladies have been a great support, and it's been fab going through pregnancy with you all. I honestly don't know how I would have got through the last 6 weeks of 4am wakings without you.

I'm not due till 24th and have no signs baby is still coming early so will probably be the last one one here - don't forget me!

Anyway will love you and leave you - actually will now pop back onto our regular thread for a chat Smile

Happy birthing Thanks

ok, so DH and I having bit of a disagreement/discussion about pacifiers/dummy use! With DS against all my best intentions we used one from day 3 to help settle him in between feeds. We only used it at home and by 4 months stopped using it. I envisaged a similar arrangement (if needed) this time-but now we have the added complication of tongue tie. From what I've read you shouldn't use them with TT babies but have just found out that DH has used it a few times without my knowing Angry In terms of her settling (or not as is the case!) between feeds it would be v handy (I'm not coping well with sound of her crying at the moment) but I just don't want to risk further problems due to the TT. Aargh!! DH thinks it'll be fine, I'm not so sure but now nervous of leaving him in charge while I go and nap!! Having said that he's far too busy playing with a bike trailor seat he's just bought to use with DS to pay too much attention to anything right now!! Grrrr

lentilpot · 23/07/2014 22:57

Argh... I'm 40+5 today and as we were going to bed I managed to knock a notice board over in the baby's room, which has wedged the door shut and we can't get in!

I think my stepdad will be able to get it open tomorrow but our hospital bags are in there as well as my maternity notes so now (having been hoping to go into labour for days) I am desperately hoping I DON'T go into labour tonight as I really hate the idea of not having my notes and stuff. So frustrating.

Oh well, at least it didn't happen with the baby in there on its own!

icklekid · 23/07/2014 23:18

Oh dear lentil like you say at least baby wasn't in there!

blue presumably after conversation about why don't think dummies a good idea with tt dh wont use? I'm so keen to try one for dsnas would really sooth him but midwife in hospital said wait 6 weeks and dh therefore won't consider before.

Good luck plate this time tomorrow you will have your gorgeous baby!

After an awful day (tried to do too much and a friend seriously overstayed her welcome! ) went to bed at 8,30 with ds so 11 feed am wide awake for after couple of hours sleep! Now if he can just go down for at least 2 more hours we will be fine!

ZingGoesPop · 23/07/2014 23:44

So we went to get Elijah checked. He had posterior TT and it was sorted with a little operation straightaway.

But when we took him to be seen by paediatrician and they took blood it came back with a higher than normal sodium level, meaning he I dehydrated to a degree.

They let us home, but he has to have top ups after every bf and we are back tomorrow to check his blood again.

I am distraught. He's health is most important so I will do whatever I'm told but I'm convinced this will negatively effect bf and I'm not interested in a struggle that will end up in him being formula fed. So I just want to give up bf completely.
I just don't see the point of this struggle.
DH has been amazing, very supportive and encouraging.

I can't believe this is happening again.

Osinachi - your Joshua was born the same day as Elijah! Congrats birthday buddy!Smile

icklekid · 24/07/2014 00:43

Oh zing that does sound tough- can you wait until blood test results tomorrow and if still dehydrated just make the decision then, you know your family and baby to know what is best

mupperoon · 24/07/2014 00:46

Plate very exciting indeed! Come on Platelet!

Congrats to osinachi and little one

Emily I have cried so much recently, over such trivial stuff, that I feel like a shrivelled husk (with a great round belly)! I hope it's normal...

lentil Aaargh, you really don't need that... hope it's sorted tomorrow!

Plateofcrumbs · 24/07/2014 01:55

So much for going home - baby's heart rate dropped whilst we were being monitored so I am probably going nowhere until the baby is here.

Have already succeeded in pissing off a midwife by insisting I went back on CTG monitor as I was freaking out without it on. Now with it on obviously all I can do is stare obsessively at it. Hmm

Less excited more anxiety ridden now.

BlueC2 · 24/07/2014 02:12

Ooh plate hope it all happens quickly for you now

ickle so know the '2 hours sleep but could conquer the world feeling'. Alas DH not convinced the pacifier will do any damage do I think would still use it (aarrgh!!). Why did your MW say wait til 6 weeks? If used carefully as a tool for certain instances and not a fix all soluTion then I don't generally think they're bad!

zing well done on getting TT sorted! Sorry about paediatrician though-grrr, I bed if they tested most babies:kids/adults in this heAt they'd find us dehydrated!!

justhayley · 24/07/2014 03:14

Hiya will go and catch up on thread and reply later or tomorrow.
But just letting you no I'm still pregnant HmmAfter thinking baby was definitely on the way Monday night after losing loads of plug, getting "contractions" having backache & feeling sick I woke up Tuesday to nothingAngry.
Saw the midwife today, she said she is shocked that I'm still pregnant & went on to tell me how rare it was to have a premature baby followed by a late/on time one. She said baby is fully engaged, & it sounded like all my plug had come away and there was nothing more to happen - just the release of the hormone to get baby here.
Iv been booked in for a sweep on Tuesday but was told that she very much doubts that I'll get passed the weekend - although she did say that last week soooo........

My due date is the 24th so maybe she'll be perfectly punctual and arrive today, although I'm now hoping for a Friday delivery as I could do with a rest day tomorrow as have done far to much walking the last few days and my body is feeling it.

Currently sat in my "birthing room" in front of a massive fan, need to go back to bed and sleep but it's so cool down here!

Hope everyone is well
xxx

So over an hour after my last post I'm still awakeConfusedAngry but am caught up on everything so that's a plus.

Kiwi: have you recovered from your migraine + now? Sounds very scary. Hope your ok now, take it easy.

Ismarah: are you allowed to do yoga pre your 6 week post natal check? Glad your not having signs of PND hope it stays that way for you.

Zing: stick to what you feel is best, iv only had 1 DC but really believe a mum knows best. HCP can stress you out and are all about ticking the boxes and treating every situation the same, when every baby is different. Have you considered giving bubba cooled boiled water instead of formula to help with dehydration? You wouldn't necessarily even have to tell them - I did this with DS, and they all praised formula milk but I actually hadn't given DS any. I know BF babies don't need water but if he's dehydrated I'd give that a go before milk. Don't get upset whatever you do baby will be fine. Trust your instincts xxxxx

Osin: congratulations on baby Joshua - my fav boys name :) glad your feeling good about everything. Totally jealous that we shared a due date and your baby is here and I'm still pregnant.

Lentil: oh no that is do annoying hope you are sound asleep with no signs of labour until you get in the room. Definitely better it happens now than when baby is in their though!

Pint: how lovely of you to check back. Congratulations, although obviously your March thread ladies won't be as great as us July lot March is a lovely time to have a baby ;). It's not nice around the due date after a MC (been there in May) but def makes it easier when your expecting again. Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly. Xx

Emily: welcome. I'm still pregnant. Due date is today (24th). Having my 2nd DC - a little girl :) really hoping now that I don't go into august!!

Plate: how you getting on? Hope things progress smoothly from this very second on and your baby is with you soon - yay exciting!

Right think I'm all caught up. Going to try and sleep again now.
Xxx

Ps who here is still pregnant? Feel like there's not many left now.

OP posts:
icklekid · 24/07/2014 04:36

Mega catch up well done Hayley can't be long left for you x

So tonight DS has decided to wake before he is actually hungry. ..this has happened twice Sad cries, pick him up, goes back to sleep, won't be put down but won't feed. I don't like this game- means he sleeps and I can't...how do i make it stop??

blue I think 6 weeks comes from nipple/teat confusion. So tempted just to try as I am tempted to solve above issue by cosleeping in spare bed- dh also doesn't approve of even if done safely!

plate hope monitoring showed all was ok with baby

NancyinCali · 24/07/2014 05:48

I'm still here hayley [waves]. Fingers crossed for a due date baby for you! I'm convinced I'll have an august baby at this rate.

Off to bed but will catch up properly tomorrow.

Howly · 24/07/2014 08:19

I'm still here too! Due date is tomorrow and my birthday Saturday 26th so I bet hope she comes then!

I did 3 hours of gardening yesterday afternoon but to no avail... Just sore knees and back now! Still sleeping well too which is a relief although I am so uncomfortable with a babies bottom in my ribs, legs kicking to the side and a big head and shoulders pushing low down!! She seriously feels too big to be in there now and the imminent birth experience is starting to frighten me!

Off for a walk and a picnic with friends today!

lentilpot · 24/07/2014 08:35

Thanks for joining in my frustration everyone! Managed to get the door open this morning with the aid of daylight and a L shaped piece of metal be had in the shed (hoarding tendencies rewarded once again!).

Now to get back into zen going-into-birth mode!

GrouchyKiwi · 24/07/2014 08:56

Congratulations osinachi!

Hope all goes well today. Plate.

Shame about it all stopping, Hayley. I was stop-start for 5 days from Thursday last week but it's all stopped again now. It's frustrating. Hopefully your MW is right this time. Migraine all cleared up now, thankfully.

Lentil what a fright! Glad you got it sorted this morning. Enjoy your zen.

MIL is here now and already taking the pressure off, which is great. Cooked dinner last night while she read DD the same book 4 times (I'd NEVER have the patience for that!) and she's taking the wee one out grocery shopping this morning. Hooray! I just have to learn to let things go, like washing not being folded the way I do it. Who'd be as fussy as me, hm?

Still 4 days till due date. BIL (who has autism) has been emailing DH nearly every day asking about the baby, which is sweet. But I am VERY glad he's not emailing me!

Plan today: spend some quality time with my exercise ball.

ZingGoesPop · 24/07/2014 08:57

Hayley - thanks

The problem with dehydration in babies is that their condition can change from mild to severe in a matter of hours.
I have no choice in what to do or what's best if there's a medical condition that could turn into a serious problem - I just have to do as I'm told.
Even if it goes against what I want.
And I am now just devastated at the prospect of having to stop bf - my experience so far, based on other kids, is that once you introduce ff there's no going back, you are stuck with it and bf will be badly effected.

Right now I don't even want to bf anymore. What's the point? He will not want to work hard if he gets ready made milk poured down his throat that fills him up and makes him sleep.
I don't care what the dr said about this being temporary.
If the breast is not stimulated enough there won't be enough milk.
Fact.
So if we take away the top ups we'll be back to square one.

I hate this.

ZingGoesPop · 24/07/2014 09:03

Btw I'm not against formula. I love it and introduce it before they are weaned.

But using it before bf is established is going to interfere with bf.
And that's why I'm very upset.

DH made me The perfect cup of tea. He is the bestEnvy

Zing sending you an unmumsnetty hug. I've been where you are. DS2 lost 25% of his birth weight and DS3 lost 17%. Also had some problems with DS4 and slow weight gain. I was so tempted to not breastfeed DS5 at all but the midwife persuaded me and I'm glad I did as it seems to be working this time.

Good luck plate

Welcome Emily

Yesterday it was my first day looking after all 5 on my own. DH came home to a tidy living room (shame about the kitchen) and 4 older DC's in bed. Good job he didn't get home until 9pm or he would have come home to the living room knee deep n toys and DS3 stood on top of the climbing frame refusing to go to bed. DS5 is 6 weeks old tomorrow. Looking forward to stopping the clexane injections and taking off the anti DVT stockings but not looking forward to being allowed to hoover and carry baskets of washing.

AuntieMaggie · 24/07/2014 13:46

draping muslins/blankets over buggies be very careful doing this as it traps in hot air which gets hotter and can be more dangerous for babies - I was reading an article about it the other day...

zing I had to ff in hospital and to stop it affecting milk supply the mw had me express too when ds had formula - is that an option with you? I also gave ds milk in a cup rather than bottle so he didn't get confused with the teat/nipple thing...

ellie our maternity physio says no hoovering or carrying anything other than baby until 6 weeks!

HV finally been today - had a cry telling her all that has happened but it felt good to tell someone how he's struggling. DS is now 9 lbs 11 oz so gaining weight well. She advised me to start putting him down more and leaving him to cry so he learns to settle himself but I don't know if I like that idea and the few times I've had to do that because I've been on the loo or something he's just got more upset not settled!

JC74 · 24/07/2014 14:04

Just back from my appointment with the consultant. They wanted to see me at 39 weeks due to my age (40).
I've had a stretch & sweep which was much more uncomfortable than I ever imagined and I'm booked to be induced on 31st July.
The end is in sight!!
