That's what i forgot to say, DS was 7lb 11 but newborn clothes were massive on him so he was in tiny baby for the first few weeks! would definitely recommend getting at least 1 tiny baby set just in case.

RE mat pay and holiday, i didn't go back to work and had all my accrued holiday paid to me. Also if you get statutory mat pay they can't ask you to pay it back when you leave Smile

STIGZ · 18/07/2014 13:43

Question for ladies who have 2 or more children : did the weight of your children have much diffrence between them when they where born?

My dd was 5"11 and was in tiny baby stuff for ages, just wondering if this

STIGZ · 18/07/2014 13:45

Will finish that post ...

Just wondering if this one will also be quite small or not much diffrence ( also a girl) ?

Me23 · 18/07/2014 13:48

Obv it will depend on many factors eg if one baby was born at 37 weeks and 2nd 42 then you can expect a few pounds difference perhaps. Mine were born similar gestations 38 and 39 weeks and weighed almost the same girl and boy.

gunwalloe · 18/07/2014 14:06

Flip and excited my usual staples are white bread French stick jacket potatoes rice all apparently bad. Low GI is what I have to aim for meats veggies salads.

We had our 4d scan today and im now officially in love for some reason I had felt a bit detached like the pregnancy wasn't happening/real but seeing her cute little face and chubby cheeks ive had such a rush of love. Her legs are now of the scale so im not sure just how long newborn clothes will last her now.

stigz my babys have been getting smaller but my friends babys have all got bigger ( sorry that's probably no help at all)

YellowWellies · 18/07/2014 15:59

Jen yes the first couple of weeks your boobs can feel 'hormonal' when engorged but after that only say the first night your baby sleeps through and your boobs are full of an undrunk night feed but I guarantee the first night your baby sleeps through so will you - sore boobs or not!

Sparkle any point between 28-35 weeks and preferably earlier rather than later to ensure immunity before delivery

LondonJen · 18/07/2014 16:44

Thanks Yellow

I am sooooooo hot. I don't envy you me, go steady.

Sparkle I was given a leaflet at my 25 week appointment then when I asked this week at my 28 week appt if the midwife's gave it or if I had to go to my gp I was told to book appt with gp. You can have it between 28-38 weeks it says.

porcito · 18/07/2014 17:28

Does anyone know why it's 28 weeks? I was given it earlier at about 23 weeks I think as it came with a tetanus one that I was having. I just wonder if the baby's still protected or if I gave myself dead arm for no good reason!

Me23 · 18/07/2014 17:30

OH is a lifesaver he finished early and picked up Ds so only had to go to the school and back which was bad enough!

Most whooping cough vaccines will be done by practice nurse at gp so you will need to book it in. I've mine booked for next week when I'll be 28+4 the sooner it's given the better as yellow explained.

I'm going to buy some paint tomorrow for hallway and stairway and spare room which is soon to be Dd's room. The previous occupants painted it a charming shade or black and pink Hmm so is going to be a bugger to paint over. I know I'll have to do most of it myself OH shows no interest in doing up the house it's so frustrating as there's so many things that need doing but he is happy to just move in and live with it and not change a thing! We've lived here since oct 2012 and all we have done is put carpet in 2 bedrooms and bathroom flooring and that's only because there wasn't any when we moved in. Sorry had to get that rant out!

Kirstipops · 18/07/2014 18:05

Eep keep forgetting about the whooping cough vacc, does that count as an antenatal appointment dya think? If it's just a normal appointment I'll have to make the time up at work :-/ Though I have to show them my hospital notes with my appointments log in advance of each appointment so if this is just a normal appointment at my practice as opposed to a hospital appointment I don't know how I'll prove why I need the time off? Hmm.
Me23 are we with the same guy, lol, mine is intent on doing up the garden but really our bedroom desperately needs done, then starting on the nursery would be nice. He wants to get decorators in as he hates painting etc but I'd really rather put our money to better use somewhere else!

FlipFantasia · 18/07/2014 18:18

Me I know what you mean about DIY/painting. Dh could live with most things but I just can't - I've almost single handedly painting pretty much every wall/ceiling/closet since we moved in last Sept as I just can't handle letting things sit...so for instance the bit of the kitchen left to paint is the corner behind/around the fridge/freezer. My bump was just too big to reach it so up to dh to finish...I reckon this bump will be in high school before it's done!

Gun ah yes, white bread/carbs are the enemy of the low gi diet. Which is annoying at first but totally possible to switch. I still automatically swap sweet potatoes for regular ones (baked sweet potatoes are delicious, as are sweet pot fries), and whole wheat/stone ground bread for white (bread in the US is mostly gross and sweet though so I often make my own no-knead bread - a time consuming but easy peasy way to make bread). Bulgur wheat is delicious (make it with some stock), 10 mins to cook and a good alternative to white rice. Nairns oat cakes and hummous is one of my favourite lunches (still addicted to nairns and order them off the internet as I can't buy them in the US). I really hope your readings stay low and you manage it with diet.

The whooping cough isn't automatically recommended over here so my midwives said it was up to me to get it or not. I'll book in with my GP soon.

I also finally started checking this morning what we've got left in terms of bodysuits/baby clothes/small baby washable nappies. In terms of size, I've never done newborn stuff, only 0-3 months. My DS was 9lbs1oz and DD was 8lbs4.5oz but both were long and I didn't mind rolling up sleeves. We can always buy some newborn stuff if we need it.

For those not wanting to do outfits, I'd still recommend leggings/tights and tops. If there is any poo leakage, then you can often get away with just changing the leggings rather than the whole sleep suit. Though of course some poo leakage is right up the back/into the hair/hat!

Definitely going to buy one of those star blankets. So cute!

ohthegoats · 18/07/2014 18:25

No one medical has even mentioned the whooping cough vaccine to me. Both me and my brother had whooping cough when we were babies.

gunwalloe · 18/07/2014 18:46

Thanks flip I have to admit I'm a fussy eater which is making it harder although strangely I'm having more trouble with my levels being to low than high I've got a lot to learn.

I had my caesarean letter today I knew it would be at 39 weeks but it's now oh so real reading it and what I have to do. I have a pre op meeting 3 days before it's strange having it planned my other two where emergencys so no time to think about it.

gunwalloe · 18/07/2014 18:47

Oh and I booked my whooping cough jab today I will be 31 weeks the receptionist said it had to be done between 28-32 weeks my midwife also hadn't mentioned it

bumpbangbump · 18/07/2014 19:53

The whooping chough vac is being recommended she to a sharp rise of cases in the UK of babies getting it prior to their 8 week jabs. The immunity is passed from mum to baby. There were a number of deaths if I remember correctly.

Had mine today from the practice nurse and was totally fine. I would definitely say get it if you can.

magichandles · 18/07/2014 20:30

I got a leaflet about the whooping cough jab at my booking appointment, put it to one side as I knew it was something to be sorted out later and have lost it - I might just ring my surgery and book in for 28 weeks anyway. I was looking to see if the leaflet was online, and one of the deaths was in my hospital catchment, so I want to get it done.

Gun When I had GD at with my first they just wanted me to do a low GI diet which was fine, but at my current hospital they were much more specific and said no more than 40g of carbs at a main meal or 20g as a snack, which I found really helpful.

I will also second the Nairns oatcakes, I had a snack of the cheesy ones with soft cheese this afternoon and they were absolutely delicious.

Another day, another freak out. Ate some salad that had a use by date of yesterday. Got my dates all muddled. Stressing about listeria. It was a mixed florette bag. Am I freaking out for a reason?

Yeah I know but they say salad is particularly bad. It was open too - probably on Wednesday. Didn't taste funny and wasn't soggy. But perhaps some bits a bit brown. One of those things I just did without thinking. Saw 17tj and thought yeah, that's ok and think I opened it yesterday then realised it was the 18th and I opened it on Wednesday.
Bah. Just try hard not to put our baby at risk then I do something daft like this.

porcito · 18/07/2014 22:12

fedup I think the use by dates are usually REALLY cautious and more just a guide than anything. As buggerlugs said, if it smelt and tasted OK, you'll be fine.

I get the worry though, I had chocolate last week that was from July 2013. And then in a restaurant on Monday, they served raw chicken. I've decided to just never leave the house again.

fedupofrainydays · 18/07/2014 22:15

I know I'm being ridiculous - sorry! Probably consumed far worse things this pregnancy without realising than some day old salad still going to stress though, can't help it!

YellowWellies · 18/07/2014 22:17

Fedup you'll be fine. Honest. I thought the food poisoning risk from salad was most likely due to it being washed in dirty water? Listeria is primarily from undercooked meat. And there are literally one or two cases a year in the UK a year it's really very very rare. The docs suspected listeria had made my sister go into early labour as in a moment of utter baby brain / toddler distraction she had browned sausages for a casserole for like two minutes and then had a great big bite out of one - virtually raw. Even with that massive risk - she tested negative for listeria, if you can't get it from a raw sausage I really doubt you get it from a slightly aged bit of lettuce. Go and chill out and have a biscuit xxxxx

fedupofrainydays · 18/07/2014 22:18

Roasting here. Getting set for the thinderstorms again for tonight. Am scared of the crazy rain and what part of our house will leak! Last night it was the spare bathroom. The perils of having a hole in your roof! I did feel sorry for the builders today though and kept taking them cold drinks. Working in a loft in this weather can not be fun. Those laying concrete downstairs were much better off!
