For nurseries, I guess it depends if you live in an area where there are a few choices. There is only one that is convenient for us and that we were happy with, so we had to make sure we organised it early. I'm really not to sure how long typical waiting lists are.

Sorry, didn't mean to panic people within one day of joining the thread! Sad

cookielove · 09/07/2014 07:07

nazly you should be able to google nurseries in your area.

sorry lets make that clickable try here

karigan · 09/07/2014 08:09

Don't worry- I've given absolutely no thought to nurseries either. :)

Bah I've got my second blood test at the mw appointment this afternoon, I'm not at all bothered by the concept of having blood taken nor am I afraid of needles but every single time I have blood taken I end up fainting. How embarrasing. :p

AlwaysandForever09 · 09/07/2014 09:19

Morning everyone, not been able to get on for nearly a week due to moving house! So had about 10 pages to catch up on lol. Hope everyone who was having a few problems are all ok now?
I've had my blood test results back, I've got low iron levels, but not surprised, probs due to the stress of moving house e.t.c!
Mothercare have got about 50% off anyone seen? I feel so unorganised as I haven't got anything ready, so gonna try get there this weekend see what they've got left if it's still on, does anyone know when it runs out?

TeamEponine · 09/07/2014 09:38

I made an unplanned trip to a Mothercare on Monday and they had some real bargins. I got a great deal on a breast pump and steriliser that I had no intention of buying that day!!! No idea how long it lasts for though, sorry. The bargins all appear to be online, so maybe it is time for an online shopping splurge?! Grin

All this talk of getting nursery booked is making me nervous! There's only 1 nursery in my town, I emailed them to ask about waiting lists, busy days etc but it took them a month to reply and even then they didn't answer my questions. Not impressed. Leaning towards using a child minder now, might be a better fit and £20 cheaper a day

Everyone seems to be suffering in some way or another, I have been fine so far so can't complain. Bought a few more things but still wholely unprepared!

KitKat1985 · 09/07/2014 10:42

I think the nursery thing depends a lot what area you live in. The South-East does seem to have a reputation for long waiting lists so it is worth doing a bit of research early on (even if it's just to ask how long their average waiting list is so you know if it's something you need to worry about or not). I e-mailed one yesterday saying I was looking at next September basically (so more than a year away) and that's it's possible I was being a bit premature, and she said yes, they were already booking up for then, so worth us booking a viewing and deciding if we want to get our names down or not! Mad! Confused Also, DH e-mailed another nursery yesterday and they've replied saying that from this September onwards they will no longer be taking under two's and only doing half day sessions, so that's a no-goer for us. There's one final nursery I want to view but I e-mailed them over a fortnight ago and they still haven't replied - not impressed.

We did consider the child-minder option as they are a bit cheaper, but I think mine and DH's concern is that if we pick a child-minder there's more risk of last-minute childcare issues (e.g, child-minder goes sick for the day or has a family emergency, that kind of thing), and of having problems finding alternative childcare each time the child-minder booked a holiday etc. I think it depends on your circumstances though. Me and DH don't have jobs that would be overly sympathetic to us having to take time off for childcare issues (although invariably it'll happen sometimes, but we want to minimise the likelihood as much as poss), so for us it's important to have somewhere reliable that isn't liable to cancel on us at short-notice.

It's a difficult one though, and seems so ridiculous to have to think about it before baby is even born!

Also last night went and looked at the online Mothercare sale - ultimately was quite disappointed. Everything we bought (2 car seat bases for the Joie car seat, a baby monitor, and a sling) was cheaper on either Amazon or Argos, so we just put orders in with them in the end. Also bought a jumbo box of 720 baby wipes from Amazon!

My back's killing me today. Sad Am off to find some paracetamol!

Wishing everyone a good day. Smile xxx

KatharineClover · 09/07/2014 11:02

Hi bugoven I really feel for you! My sis has complex MH issues inc eating disorder & personality disorder, and my mum has mild depression. Mum is great, but is at times bullied by my sis (she lives with mum and dad). My sister has been a lot better since she returned to work recently, but still does occasionally blurt out with the most awful things that I tend to stew over (never sure if she means to be hurtful or doesn't realise). She also has a desire to control everyone, that comes across as extremely over-zealous 'helping' that can be hard to handle (plus I'm a very independent person).

I do try to be calm and rational (often a text or email afterwards is better than a call as I can draft and redraft), then have a moan in private to DH (who is very understanding).
As Ella says, I've found with both pregnancies that I do withdraw from them a little, I think in order to protect myself a bit from the drama.
No easy answers, but I'm always here if you want to off-load xx

whiteblossom · 09/07/2014 11:28

hey everyone, sorry ive been MIA, my internet was down- amazing how you feel like having lost a limb with no internet connection. My dh keep saying are you having "IWS" -Internet withdrawal symtoms!!

I had a mw apt this morning, all fine there, I had a different mw again but she was lovely and happy to answer questions. Baby is head down (which I already knew) but no where near engaged.

I did ask about weight gain but she said as long as your eating healthy and walking....ummm ok. So far Ive gained 1.5st at 31 weeks hows everyone else doing?

Im full of a cold today and feeling a bit sorry for myself.

KitKat1985 · 09/07/2014 12:18

You're doing better than me whiteblossom. Weighed myself this morning. Have put on 1 stone 12 pounds so far (and I'm only 30 weeks, so a week behind you). Hope you're cold gets better soon. xxx

KitKat1985 · 09/07/2014 12:19

Your not you're!

RedToothBrush · 09/07/2014 13:01

I'm not telling you how much weight I've put on... mainly because I'm too scared to check after last time I looked. It was more than you 4 weeks ago!

Its even scarier to think of it in terms of percentage of my pre-pregnancy weight. At this rate, it could be close to 50% of my pre-pregnancy weight at the end...

I'm terrified by it now and I have been eating not much more than usual. Everyone keeps saying "oooh you are about to pop" when I still have 2 months to go and are really shocked when I tell them. Baby was predicted to be between 3200 - 4200grams (7lb to 9.2lbs) based on earlier measurements. It looks like its on track to be bigger than that now (and I'm now wishing I hadn't checked that as the information on my notes suggests I should be referred for a growth scan based on my latest measurement).

The only consolation is that I don't appear to have put much on my face. Yet.

bugoven · 09/07/2014 13:18

Thanks katharine, I sent another nice text this morning and didn't really expect a reply but want to keep being nice and showing I've moved on. I had an awful day yesterday going through a lot of emotions and worries while completely sleep deprived and nauseous. Managed a fairly good night's sleep though and have started the day feeling much more positive. Also read a few more forums about similar issues and feel reassured I can handle this and keep myself and baby safe.

I have gained about 1st 10lb at 31w3d. Sure a lot of that is water retention!

Teabiscuits · 09/07/2014 14:17

I have put on just over a stone (31 weeks), but I don't suffer with any water retention or anything so it's all baby, placenta, amniotic fluid and umm.. cake.

Saw consultant yesterday. According to him, I am measuring spot on for dates. Apparently my pubic bone is lower than average, and my womb is lopsided so the midwives doing it before have not been starting low enough down, and haven't allowed for the fact that the top of the fundus is way over to the right. Which explains why since 27 weeks I have been measured at 27cm, then 25cm and 27cm on the same day, and now 31cm.
I'll think I'll go on what the growth scans say! Got another just to make sure on 25th.

Friday is my last shift at work :). Then it's getting everything organised for baby and packing for holiday Grin. Time is really running away from me now, before I know it we'll be going in for induction Shock. Hope everyone else is ok today x

TeamEponine · 09/07/2014 14:37

I've just turned 29 weeks, and I'm currently at just over a stone weight gain from pre-pregnancy, so not too bad at all. Although I did lose a few pounds with morning sickness, and I'm not counting gaining that back within my overall weight gain (does that sound right, or should I be including it?). However, my fundal height has put me two weeks ahead since they started measuring it, and she is measuring 1.5-2 weeks behind (had a 4d scan at 28 weeks), so I seem to be all over the place! Confused

I'm just trying to think that my weight, fundal height and little one's size are all within the "normal" range, and therefore I have no need to feel anxious (I can be quite an anxious person!).

KitKat - Amazon certainly seems to be the cheapest for nappies and wipes, so I think I'll be bulk buying from there!!!

ella get checked out by doc/MW. You are not wasting anyone's time and although everything is likely to be fine you are not being silly by wanting to check a change in movement X

lucidlady · 09/07/2014 16:43

Ella definitely get checked. Midwives would much rather we check and find everything is ok than not check. Hope you start to feel better soon!

RedToothBrush · 09/07/2014 16:44

Ella I was given a leaflet by the RCOG at my last midwife appointment which I have been told to read and take seriously.

It says:
What should I do if I feel my baby's movements are reduced or changed?

Over 28 Weeks pregnant:
You must contact your midwife or local maternity unit immediately. You must not wait until the next day to seek help.

It then gives a few more details about it. The line above was the FIRST line about what to do if you are over 28 weeks pregnant.

Its clear you aren't 100%, and are struggling so don't feel like a moaner. It is what it is.

RCOG also say, its most likely nothing and most women don't have a problem, but you should get it checked for you own peace of mind as much as anything.

ilove I hope they are able to stop your contractions but if baby is born they are very very likely to be absolutely fine but maybe need a little help. You're in the right place, let us know how you get on and if you need any hand holding I'll be checking regularly, as will everyone else, I'm sure. Lots of love Thanks

KitKat1985 · 09/07/2014 17:41

Thinking of you both Ilove and EllaBella. Thanks If you need any online hand holding / support then we're all here for you both. xxx
