I thought id chance it and ring to see if they were back. I was really worried as baby is so big and they understood when I asked about the results. The mw I spoke to is like a family friend. When ever we go its all hugs and kisses, really nice bunch of mws. Good thing they are too seen as we've beem there 2years in a row lol.

I remember when I let ds1 (4 in Sept) feel baby kick 1 day and he went roundd telling everyone his 'tummy hurts baby kicking inside' lmao Grin

So on an empty stomach your sugar levels were high.

My mums would be near 14 at times on an empty stomach but she would still feel shit so she would drink fresh orange before getting out of bed.

I would reduce your sugar intake. Make sure you eat healthy and carbs turn into sugar so dont over load on carbs. Dad is diabetic too. I go with him to see diabetic team and they were surprised I didnt have gd with both dc.

Doesn't mean yiu have gd I think. I think rhey will refer you to dietitian and make you monitor at home and see what your levels are..They might give you a testing kit and booklet so you csmt write them down. Its good your 2nd lot of bloods were good.

My dad is diabetic. Low GI will help e.g. Sweet potato instead of potato. Meals based around protein and veggies (could be stew not necessarily salad, or a mushroom omelette for breakfast etc) - lower carb / higher protein diets can help with digestive issues like IBS too x

cookielove · 27/06/2014 19:48

Hello all, do you ever have times where you find a hidden tenner in your purse that you completely forgot was there and it's a little piece of happiness, well just found out I had a scan booked in for Monday I had completely forgotten about and I am so happy as its first thing and I get to see the baby soon! Yay!!

cookielove · 27/06/2014 19:56

Also forgot to say got my letter through stating that we require genetic testing for the baby, which is a relief as I thought we would really have to fight for it! (Phew)

topmammy · 27/06/2014 21:44

That's good news ilove Smile

Hope it turns out well for you too with the dietitian person Ella

Really Long Rant Warning:

Start:
I've just sent a polite but probably snotty email to my school's person who deals with payroll about the absence of any confirmation of my Maternity Leave & Pay. I would ring except for some reason i'm not permitted to have a phone number! Top secret apparently.

There are only 3 weeks left of term and I still have received nothing in writing from them despite giving them my letter on 22nd of bloody April. Gov.uk says employers "must" give confirmation of Leave & Pay within 28 days of receiving a request so i've been more than patient. I've also pointed this out in my email.

If this person would do their job properly I wouldn't be stressing out on a Friday night about this. And my silly pregnancy hormones are already making mountains out of molehills as it is. Why can't these people just do their jobs in a half timely manner?! If I turned up to teach my class late i'd be sacked before you could say Michael Gove but for some reason this person doesn't have to follow government maternity laws/guidelines and there is no penalty for him.

This particular person also took months to sort out my pension contributions when I first started teaching at the school and even had to ask ME about what MY contract said about whether the school make matching contributions. (!!!*%%###???!!)
ArGH!!

End of Rant.

Thank you for reading if you got this far :)
Just needed to let off some steam.

Hope you are all well!!

ellabella I have GD too, in my second pregnancy it was diet controlled, but in this one it's much worse and I've been on insulin for at least 6 weeks now.
If you can diet control it, it's not too bad, if they have you checking your blood sugars, then you'll soon work out what you can and can't eat- and more importantly how much.
Generally, watch out for portion sizes of carbs, and swap white carbs for wholemeal ones. Limit/reduce sugary things, and watch out for too much fruit at once. Make sure meals are balanced with proteins and carbs and veg.
Don't try to do what I did and control it by cutting out carbs and other groups, I got a right rollicking by my consultant for that! It's all about eating a healthy balanced diet, watching portion sizes, and allowing them to treat you if need be. I really didn't want insulin, so I cut my diet right down, but was finding it a struggle as I wasn't actually eating enough, now I can eat normally and the insulin controls it. Don't forget it's the plancenta and hormones causing it, not anything you have done, and if your looking up stuff on the web, the 'guidelines' are different for type I and type II diabetics, so not everything you read will apply.
You can Pm me if I can help anymore, I've learnt a lot in the last 14 weeks!

I would switch to sweetener for tea, if you can bear it, I'm not very good at avoiding sweeteners, and they don't seem to have done me (or my babies) any harm. I'm sure google could find some horror stories about them tho!
Injections aren't that bad, tiny tiny needles so you don't really feel them.

AlwaysandForever09 · 28/06/2014 14:47

Hey everyone, sorry to hear most of you aren't feeling great with different things at the moment, I've had enough now! We're moving house next week, trying to pack today but just don't have the energy to! DH working, so trying to do that and keep DS occupied is hard! Ice got 6 weeks left of work, I'm lucky that I can sit off the reception desk if I need to have a break from front desk, but it's just long hours for the 3 days I do, so will be glad once moved in and on mat leave for a bit of a rest whilst DS will be at nursery. I'm so not organized with this baby! Got the big stuff just need to wash clothes and again once were all moved in can sort the room out. When are people or have people packed their bags?

CoolCat2014 · 28/06/2014 16:13

Ella - my dad is diabetic and he uses stevia or a half stevia half sugar combo a lot. I think there has been no conclusive scientific proof that sweeteners are harmful (generally), but if you're worried stevia might be a good choice?

Always - we are about to move house... Finally! Been living with stuff in boxes for weeks as we'd hoped to move house in May, but the chain got broken!

Been having palpitations and faintness so bad I've now been signed off work for a week. Awkward as my cover starts Monday, and no one else can train for what I do. Don't know what to do.... And a bit nervous the palpitations aren't going to go away, when they hit my head goes to mush and I can't think :(

bugoven · 28/06/2014 18:33

cool have you been taking an iron supplement? I was feeling very unwell with breathlessness, dizzy spells and palpitations. After some time in hospital and thorough investigation the only possible culprit was a low iron level. Have been taking Spatone since and barely noticed any palpitations at all. Rest up and hope you manage to ease them, they are horrible.

March 2015 thread now well established! Wowser!

A friend of mine had an 11lb baby 1 1/2 weeks early!!!! Waaah!

Nazly · 29/06/2014 01:13

11 lb?!!! Oh woow! That just scares me offffff being already paranoid by tear levels! Did she know her baby is big?

I am also feeling very dizzy these days but I thought if it was iron levels they would pick it up in 28 blood test? Or not?

CoolCat2014 · 29/06/2014 05:44

11lb? Yowzer!!!

My iron levels were checked at 28 weeks, and midwife seemed to think they were ok. GP I saw said the latest tests I had hadn't looked at it, so she was trying to get it added on, so I guess I'll wait and see :(

ilovemonstersInc · 29/06/2014 07:45

Wow bug!! I was reading notes from scan and baby at 28weeks was 5 weeks ahead via scan and at 30 weeks hes 6 weeks ahead. Apparently when they are that big its supposed to be easier Hmm
Ds2 growth scan weight was spot on.

For low iron you could have the pregnancy multivitamin or that spatone stuff.

Bigger babies seem to be increasingly common. I know two people who recently gave birth, one to a 11lb+ and one to a 10lb+. It is making me scared, trying not to think about it too much!!

KitKat1985 · 29/06/2014 10:04

11lbs! Scary! Shock

Tearing is probably my biggest fear too. Not helped by the fact that one of my work colleagues (whose daughter is a midwife) seems to take great pleasure in telling me that she expects I'll have a big baby because of the size of my DH (who is 6'3 and very broad shouldered).

On a related note, we're going to our nephew's first birthday party today, being hosted by my BIL and SIL. Everyone keeps saying that nephew takes after my DH as he's a big lad too (has been in 24-month baby clothes since he was about 10 months old now, and he actually weighs more now than one of his step-cousins who is 3, and apparently DH was very similar when he was a baby)! Am hoping our baby doesn't completely follow DH's growth pattern! Getting scared now!

cookielove · 29/06/2014 11:27

I know it sounds odd when you talk about comparing babies weights to older children, but we often forget 3 year olds, are running around lots amd tend to run a bit thinner then a chubby 1 year old who may only just be on his feey or not there yet.

kitkat what will be will :)

cookielove · 29/06/2014 11:27

feet not feey!

Teabiscuits · 29/06/2014 13:03

My DN is 6 months old and heavier than my DS who is 1. They do vary a lot in weight and size but will usually level out to some extent when they are about school age. However SIL is constantly stuffing something into the poor boys face whether he is hungry or not.

I know people who have been told they are having whoppers to have a pretty average 8lber, I was told while in labour with DD2 that baby would be 5lb and she was 7lb3.

I agree, what will be will be - scary thought having an 11lber though! Shock .

RedToothBrush · 29/06/2014 14:09

Just say you know this is apparently a lot of bollocks. Size of baby is pretty much dictated by the mothers genes alone thankfully. I spent much time trying to find evidence for the opposite (I'm a teeny 5'1", DH is similar 6'3 and very broad shouldered). Couldn't find any research at all to support the theory.

The only thing I could find was there is a slight issue with mixed race couples (asian female, caucasian male) as this combination does seem to produce babies which are slightly bigger.

If you really want to blame someone for having big babies, blame your grandmother.

whiteblossom · 29/06/2014 14:50

kitkat, my dh is 6'3 and very broad...our ds was 2 weeks overdue and weighed 7.12 and I didn't tear. He was long and he's always been tall and he currently has the same shoe size as me and he's just 8!!

Don't panic and its really not worth getting stressed about you cant control it and you wont know until after they are born. Ive read that even scans are crap at predicting weights/sizes...

I don't think the mw should have been scaring you though that's rather shitty and she's full of crap!

My gm weighed in at a whooping 12lbs when she was born (can you imagine without drugs!!) I weighed in just over 5lbs... You just cant tell.
