I don't work in a school but I do work in a nursery and found it really difficult telling the parents, well awkward mostly! Most know now as i told several to their face and then put it in our room newsletter.

I would wait till she says something, or it comes out in a news letter.

I am in Lax about to board!

Nazly · 22/06/2014 02:09

Questions to mums with more experience ; you can prob say I am very new to this world by the second question:

  1. How important and handy it is that a pushchair folds with the chair in it? I am insisting on it imagining it would be a hassle to take the chair out every time; but am I right?
  1. Is it totally stupid to think a changing unit can be setup in a bathroom? One of our bathrooms is generous in size and I am having troubles finding a better place for it BUT is this idea totally impractical in reality??

Tea we bought a car last year and had the very same dilemma, either a cheaper one from savings or a more expensive one on loan; I think you can't compromise on the quality of a car specially when you have kids; last thing you want is a car that needs to go to garage every other day ; you were totally right not to buy a car without warranty IMO; we ended up getting a loan from Zopa; have you seen their website? The interest on our loan was lowest in the market and it had very favourable terms - and I love our car now...

ilovemonstersInc · 22/06/2014 08:10

Nazly my quinny doesnt fold with the seat in it but its not a hassle really. Ive never actually given it a second thought until now! The frame goes in first and then I pop the seat on top in the boot. It stays in the car too and I have our double in the house.
Changing unit imo was a waste of money. I had one of those all in one bath and changing unit which probably came in handy first few month or so as I didnt want to be bending down a lot but then I just did everything on the floor.

I have just written on another thread about getting a sense of well being just walking past the nursery wardrobe & taking a look/ having a feel of baby's clothes! Does anyone else do this on a daily basis? I just can't help it, it's amazing in 10 weeks or so I'll have a small person to dress. I'm so so excited!!

Acorncat · 22/06/2014 09:08

I think at this stage having a nursery at all, never mind one full of clothes would fill me with terror make it seem more real than it does now. Can't imagine it though.

I share the frustration of deciding on something and then being disappointed when you see it in the flesh. I decided on getting a britax dualfix to use from birth (don't want a travel system) but after playing with it in mothercare it was so user unfriendly, didn't seem to recline much at all and had a really bucket shaped seat that even the newborn insert didn't fix really. Back to the drawing board Sad

Plus I now have the dreaded swollen ankles.

ilovemonstersInc · 22/06/2014 09:13

Acorn have you seen the quinny buzz? Its great. Im stillusing ds1s wwho will be 4 in September. Its done us good. Took it to the beach yesterday!

Deardenah - how organised r u having ur nursery completed and clothes in there!

Still waiting for the nursery to be painted by dh and then he can put the cot and changing unit up. Not buying and clothes until Aug, as my sister is throwing me a baby shower on 3rd Aug and I don't want to end up with so many clothes the baby doesn't get a chance to wear them all.

Cindy5389 · 22/06/2014 09:18

DearDinah · 22/06/2014 09:22

Oh nursery isn't complete! Rooms still to be painted, I just saw this furniture on a Facebook bargain page & had to get it, I literally have to squeeze into the spare room to get to it, the clothes are hand me downs but still adorable! Nothing is new! Lol

lucidlady · 22/06/2014 10:33

Nazly I have a Cameleon and it doesn't fold with the seat in it. It's never really bothered me - it's easy enough to "click" the seat off and fold the base so doesn't seem like a big deal.

I didn't bother with a changing unit. They're actually quite unsafe once baby is able to roll etc - I know a few babies who ended up in A&E after rolling off their changing tables. What we did with DD was just put the changing mat in the cot (she slept in a crib til she was about 5 months) and then moved it to the floor. Because it was in the cot, we had the sides on it and she couldn't roll out. Seems an awful lot of money to spend on something that you can really only use safely for a couple of months. At least that was what we thought!

Topsyloulou · 22/06/2014 11:33

Nazly I've got a changing unit that sits on top of the cot. Cost me £3.50 from eBay. That way I don't have to bend down to change him, I can keep the nappies etc in the cot until he is sleeping in there so don't have to worry about leaving him on the unit to get anything & I don't have to find space for another piece of furniture in what is quite a small room.

Walking past our nursery just depresses me at the minute, it's part spare room, part dumping ground for all of the baby stuff. Can't get rid of the bed until the end of July as we have people staying but as soon as they are gone Dp will be in there taking the bed down & putting the cot up. Not sure where we will put all the baby stuff when our friends stay, think it may have to go in the loft at this rate. I do have a 0-3 month coat I bought hanging in his wardrobe ready & do occasionally hold it up to the bump. Will be scary when the bump is bigger than the coat as it won't be too much longer til he'll be wearing it!

Teabiscuits · 22/06/2014 13:36

nazly our pushchair doesn't fold down with the seat in, it's not really a problem as the seat clicks in and out really easily. I do have the changing table in the bathroom (it's an all in one with the bath underneath) and have found it brilliant, but we use cloth nappies and changing without access to the toilet would be a nightmare! The rolling off can be an issue, my table had raised sides but DS is such a wriggle bum he would dive over the edge, if I have to take my eyes off him for a second my hand is round his ankle - he cant roll then! You do have to be very vigilant though.

Thanks for the advice on the loan company i'll give them a look. It's looking more and more like we will have to get one, it's annoying though as we had worked really hard to pay everything off - and had said never again to credit cards etc. A loan is no where near as bad as the cards though, and we have good credit history so can hopefully get a good deal.

ilovemonstersInc · 22/06/2014 14:53

Youve got some good advice here nazly.

The stupid spd pgp or what ever it is has got me a lot more today. Had to have paracetamol to help with pain but it hasnt as of it and its been close to 2hours

we did go to the beach yesterday. Was lovely. We stayed on a side where it was quite. Further up was packed! Wanted to go sea life too but couldn't find any parking for an hour!

Nazly · 22/06/2014 14:55

Thanks all, thanks tea, I'll look for all in with bath (don't know what they are, off to google) but I am just happy it is not unreasonable to have changing unit in bath... Also just reading through all your messages I thought either I get one for bathroom or I don't get one at all.. The ones that go on top of cots are brilliant but we haven't got a cot yet and won't have one until the baby is our of crib I think...

Tea Zopa is a peer to peer lending, it is not a bank, thus the rates are very reasonable and you'll know you are paying a small interest to all other people who left their savings there. you even get a list of usernames that paid to make up your loan which is somewhat sweet; apart from that everything else is similar to a bank; Although their credit check was really quick and I don't know if they checked our references; we pay with direct debit now... I know what you mean, we have a couple of loans and didn't want another one, but the quality of car we could get with a relatively small monthly payment was nowhere near what we could afford on savings....

Nazly · 22/06/2014 14:58

Ilove yes I know, thanks - oh i NOW have beach envy.... I just miss going to sea so so much but dh is just always busy one day over the weekend and the other day we are sorting out home, shopping, decorating, etc :( these will never end at this rate, I wish we could take some time off and sort everything out

bugoven · 22/06/2014 15:59

I am really lucky to live on the South Coast and went for a sea swim at 7 this morning. Wasn't as sensitive to temperature as I expected to be, stayed just within my depth for safety (last Summer I would swim out for ages then back again and have even performed a couple of sea rescues) did take me ages to warm up though. Maybe because I because I didn't lay in sun for ages afterwards like I usually do.

I have all my baby clothes in a Hensvik, Ikea wardrobe. DP and I go into the nursery most days and get something out for a daydream together. I have a changing unit attached to the bookcase which was only an extra £10 and matches the set but I wasn't too bothered about one. Will probably only use when baby is tiny and not sleeping in his nursery so will do nappies, after bath etc. in there so we can use the room and everything is all together. I realise life will be pretty chaotic after that though =)

I get hip pain and numbness. Have to change sides several times each night. Biggest pregnancy niggles for me at the moment are swollen feet and feeling as though I am about to wet myswlf even when I have just been! =)

ilovemonstersInc · 22/06/2014 16:00

It was brilliant naz. We went to Blackpool beach but only stayed on the quiet side of the beach. Further up near all the shops and theme park was packed and our side there must have been around 5 families scattered around. Best thing was both dc loved it

How annoying for you nazly hope you find a travel system soon, it's not easy is it.

I've got a chest of drawers that has a changing table top bit, but it can be removed to turn into a normal chest of drawers. I won't be going up the stairs to baby's room for every nappy change though! So will have a spare changing mat downstairs I think.

Well I did go to the fair today and glad I did, it was fun :) Only needed to use a portaloo once (lol). Had some yummy strawberries in melted belgian chocolate mmmm!! Found a baby stall of course and bought this cute dress for age 6-12 month and it's reversible with little cupcakes design on the other side. Super tired now though!

Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine today. I have my whooping cough jab tomorrow eek!

cookielove · 22/06/2014 16:45

I'm back from LA, it's so good to be home!! Just trying to stay awake now!

top that dress is so cute!

Eastwiththem · 22/06/2014 22:36

I lend money out on Zopa - maybe I paid for a wing mirror on your car Nazly! I'd definitely get a loan off them if I needed it, and as a lender the interest is way better than I'd get in a standard savings account.

Officially third trimester now so that is exciting! Less exciting is I need to get the anti-D and whooping cough jabs done. Anti-D is booked in for next week but need to get whooping cough sorted.

Is anyone doing hypnobirthing classes or similar? I'm considering booking the Lazy Daisy classes, I'm rubbish at self study so the tapes and books wouldn't really be work for me.

dontevenblink · 22/06/2014 23:42

That dress is really cute topmammy! I make dresses but only for my 6 year old dd (but she is very girly luckily :) ) would love to make some little dresses, but don't know what sex this one is - as my dd is desperate for a girl as she already has two little brothers I am thinking it will probably be another boy though! I'm going to make up some patterns for dungarees though so I should be sorted either way :)

Lovely to hear about adventures to the beach, we live a 5 min walk to a sandy beach with sand dunes, but you would absolutely freeze if you tried swimming in it at this time of year... Great for walking on though as you can see the mountains with snow on in the distance, but my SPD has stopped me going there much at the moment as walking on the uneven sand hurts Sad. We went for a really nice walk in the forest by our house though on Saturday as the dc love collecting sticks etc, but I ached so much that night!

Bugoven I grew up on the south coast and used to get into the sea as much as I could during the summer :)

We have a changing table on the top of a chest of drawers that came with the cot, but I only use it when the baby is tiny, then change on the floor. Helps not having to bend down with the C-section to start with though. Nazly my friend has hers in the bathroom and it works really well, especially with bath time. We don't have a baby bath, just a plastic seat from mothercare that goes in the bath - we found it much easier.

Nazly · 23/06/2014 01:02

Don't that sounds lovely where you live x it is one of my dreams... Bug it is amazing that you managed to swim... I do envy that a lot ...
Top the dress is sweet :)
East that's interesting; you may well have paid for a mirror; I like the idea and how they work to get around the banks ; I tried to go for lazy daisy but in our area they are very unorganised and after 2 months waiting for their registration email the lady finally emailed me to say they are full till Sep now and sorry if I didn't get anything from them maybe it was in junkmail (it was not) ; so I gave up and reluctantly registered for nct

It is good to hear all experiences about changing unit; I think we will opt for combi bath and changing unit; kiddicare has one currently which is affordable I though...

I can't sleep as you can say from time of the post and will have trouble getting up on time for work tomorrow :(

Nazly · 23/06/2014 01:05

On and something else; one of my big stresses and worries about VB is the tears that may happen during birth... I did some research and exploring tonight and found this useful, thought I should share it with you: www.ouh.nhs.uk/patient-guide/leaflets/files\090924perinealmassage.pdf

DearDinah · 23/06/2014 04:51

Aaargh! Awake since 3.30, hideous cramp/numbness all down right side, no position is comfortable & babbas having a party! Up for work at 6, I might as well get up now :(

misog2000 · 23/06/2014 07:09

I'm struggling to sleep too Dinah at the moment, but I don't know why! Nothing seems to hurt or be uncomfortable, I just can't sleep and then when I do I have the weirdest dreams and wake up shattered. Had a text from my boss at 10.30 last night saying she needed me in early this morning as there is a drama (how unusual!) so today's going to be fun, no nipping off for a nap for me Grin

Have a nice day at work everyone
