Just starting a new thread so we have somewhere to go once thread 2 is full (I give it less than a day!!)

Welcome to the never-ending first trimester, and maybe some of us into the second trimester this thread?

Oh no I have missed such a lot - sending good vibes to those who are struggling for whatever reason Thanks

The first trimester is so horrid and scary isn't it? One time in your life you could do with stuffing your face with ice cream and downing a bottle of red and even the thought of it makes you nauseous.

Difficult to namecheck as on phone but I hope those with inconclusive scans get better news soon.

7+4

Treaclepie19 · 14/05/2014 22:19

Thanks chinese :)
Hope you are ok too.

KateJ28 · 14/05/2014 23:05

Yes treacle thinking of you and others - know it's not nice being in limbo and not knowing what's happening. At least the docs are keeping a close eye on you :-)

Xxx

Morning all. Haven't been on here for a while so took advantage of my insomnia this morning to catch up (this moves fast!). Apologies for the delay but thinking of everyone going through the challenges of bleeding and inconclusive scans. Had bleeding myself a couple of weeks ago and went to EPU - had a trainee who was more interested in checking his boxes than reassuring me. Actually had to ask after 3 minutes if everything was alright and he said "oh yeah, that's right" (as in you're not just here as a test patient and you're actually worried) and turned the screen so I could see the little bean (hurrah!)...for 5 seconds before he turned it back to him and finishing with his measurements. Sigh... Bedside manner much? But rest assured that it's not always bad news so stay strong...

Have my dating scan next week and trying not to think that things could have changed in the meantime. Still doesn't seem real though - apart from the monster boobs, horrid bloating, constant nausea...

SassehMonsta · 15/05/2014 07:34

Quite nervous about this morning's urine sample thing. Don't think I want to be admitted!! Eek. The stomach lining stuff turned out to be gaviscon (gross!) and I've managed a few mouthfuls this morning. Made me feel horrendous mind you!! Ice lollies are amazing - you absorb the glucose before it makes it to your stomach so you don't end up bringing it up again.

Worst mum to be ever. Accidentally ate some smoked marlin last night. NHS says do not eat. Not even just avoid. Shit. :( Everything is v fishy here so it's hard to know what I can have. It was in ravioli and I only had one piece before I realised so hope it's okay. :

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 15/05/2014 08:12

Sasseh I treated myself to a Solero yesterday after vomming at a train station and it was the nicest thing ever! I didn't even feel sick afterwards!

ParanoidCoventGarden75 · 15/05/2014 08:12

espa don't worry about a mouthful, it won't hurt

SassehMonsta · 15/05/2014 08:22

Espa, that small amount wont make a difference. Yes peace, its amazing! Though I tried one this morning but couldnt have much of it as still felt queasy.

espa The issue with Marlin is the mercury and I really think it would take more than a morsel in some ravioli to have any effect so don't beat yourself up.

I had my first appointment with the midwife yesterday and am glad to say it was a wonderful experience. She came to my home and was here for over 2 hours. I think we must have spent over half of that chatting about non-baby related things as she was just so friendly and funny. She took my bloods and urine sample and, best of all, told me that she's putting me down to have the baby in the midwife-led unit as I'm nice and low risk. That phrase just filled me with joy. I'm 41 on Monday and fed up with hearing about all the risks associated with us ancient mothers! My husband is a paramedic and had to sit through a whole morning of obstetrics training yesterday and he said that 40+ mums and the risks associated were mentioned a lot. He found it really hard as he's unable to tell anyone I'm pregnant. I don't think I'd considered how hard that must be for him. Even though I haven't told anyone in the real world I do get to 'chat' about it to you guys here. Anyway I don't have positive associations with hospitals so having the baby anywhere a little less like one will be great. In the past, before I was pregnant, I thought I would like a home birth. Having delivered quite a few babies my husband said, 'Fine, as long as you know we'll need a new bed and carpet!' Everything was bought new in October so I think I'll give it a miss!

Has anyone else discussed where they are going to give birth yet?

Treaclepie19 · 15/05/2014 08:58

Hope all goes ok today sasseh!

Rejje she sounds lovely :)
I really haven't thought that far ahead! Stuck in limbo for now.

chillychicken · 15/05/2014 09:01

Morning all

How are you today treacle?

I need your opinions...would I be unreasonable to call the midwife today reference my scan? I'm 10+1, saw the midwife at 7+5 and I still don't have the scan date. I wouldn't fuss too much but I'm being pushed into making a decision about a work trip abroad when I'm 13 weeks. I don't want to say "yes" and then find out my scan is that week. I really do need to go on this trip though. DH says if the scan is booked for that week then I just call the hospital and move the scan. I don't think it quite works like that Confused

Treaclepie19 · 15/05/2014 09:03

Hi chilly, I'm feeling a little more positive thank you, mainly because I've stayed home from work. Just need some time to myself to assess and recover mentally. I'm so drained.

With your scan I'd ring up and see if you can find out any more. It may be that they won't tell you but at least you'll have asked.

mopsytop · 15/05/2014 09:03

chilly why not ring hospital direct and book your scan? and you can move it if it doesn't suit.

chillychicken · 15/05/2014 09:09

I didn't know I could ring the hospital directly. I haven't brought my notes into work so don't have the hospital number or any details. Damn. I can't even pop home today. I feel stupid ringing the midwife, I don't want to bother her about something so trivial Blush

ParanoidCoventGarden75 · 15/05/2014 09:10

chilly I would call, my scan was booked for when I'll be 14+, but nobody bothered to tell me, or the letter got lost, you should know by now. I changed mine for 12+1.

SassehMonsta · 15/05/2014 09:15

Chilly, Id call the hospital. If you dont have the number to hand, google the hospital and find the ultrasound dept number or ask their switchboard. :-)

chillychicken · 15/05/2014 09:17

Would the midwife know or should I just call the hospital? This is going to sound really stupid but I can't find the right department on the hospital website. Would I call maternity?

chillychicken · 15/05/2014 09:18

Ooh x-posts. Right! I'll call now. I'll have to ask the switchboard as our hospital website is crap!

Rejjie · 15/05/2014 09:21

Chilly I agree that you should have heard something by now. I'd give your midwife a call.

chillychicken · 15/05/2014 09:27

On hold with hospital. My referral hasn't been sent in by the midwife yet!!

Angry

This isn't a great start.

PresidentSpreadable · 15/05/2014 09:48

That's pretty lame chilly. I emailed the hospital directly, as I suspected they had posted my dates to my old address, they emailed me back my scan and booking in details.

My energy feels like it's increasing again which is good, managed a swim on Tuesday and going again tonight. Only did half the lengths I usually do, but I was overtaking a fair amount of the men in the medium lane, so obviously a few weeks off hasn't completely ruined my form. Shattered afterwards though. I stepped on the scales this morning and was horrified, all the crisps have done their damage so needs must.

SassehMonsta · 15/05/2014 09:52

oh chilly!! bloody mws hey!

left sample with receptionist (daft woman). Dr should call me later on with results. bought home ketone test and did one just now, its giving me a moderate tohigh reading, so likely I'll be admitted. oh well, needs must.
