Sassi whereabouts in the Midlands are you? I am Leamington/Rugby/Coventry area.

How was the MW?

divastrop · 13/09/2006 19:25

sassi, how did it go this afternoon?

novadandypowder · 13/09/2006 20:09

Just wanted to add a positive note on here so we don't completely scare the first timers.

I had a really good birth experience - early, fast, no tears or intervention. It's not all bad, honest .

I also now have a wonderful dd, who makes me laugh (and tear my hair out) every day. It is definitly worth it.

Jaysecond · 13/09/2006 21:36

Thaks for the wb, Dolly, Kitty and Fatfox, lol@ real home = MN! We are all like one big family huh!

Sorry to read Babycakes news, is she still about on here? Also my regards to you Kitty re your Gran. Welcome to anyone thats new since i have been here sorry its not personalised but i cant catch up with everything on here, you guys type for England!!!!

Nova, id like to reiterate abut the birth experience, my first one was totally AMAZING, i loved every minute, it was a thrilling, empowering and exhilarating time for me, i was totally in control, felt everything but thoroughly enjoyed it! DD was a healthy 9lb 5oz with no probs since. Shes a real joy and so worth all the SPD i suffered!!( bet i get a real bummer of a birth this time now!!)

Sassi, VERY unprofessional of your MF, i would definatly request not to see her, and make a complaint, or else if thats not pssible for one reason or another, just tell her that you would rather just stick to dealing with you and that you feel uncomfortable discusing other peoples private business...mention confidentuality and the fact shes breaching it, might put her in her place! oh and dont worry at all about being 'over' hormonal, i went off on a HUGE 'one' today just becasue my DH trimmed up some bushes in the garden when i had said i would do it......... guess he was only trying to help!

oh and by the way, its not just my thighs that have spread ...

Love to all x

kittywits · 13/09/2006 22:14

Well, went to Granny's funeral today left home at 8.30 am got to Birmingham at 1.15, left birimingham at 3.45, got back to Brighton at 8. 49. My bum hurts from sitting that long. Did lots of reading though and it was nice to be on my own, I haven't had that sort of head space for years.

Annie, passed through Lemmington spa today!!

Home births aren't mucky actually, the midwives tidy it all away.
V. tired now night x

SassiLils · 14/09/2006 09:22

Hi Everyone, Thank you all for your kind words and concern about MW from Hell! I decided to collect DD from childminder early so she may provide some sort of distraction and it worked! Mw didn't mention the nasty ex work once . mind you, she did also have a student MW with her. I heard the heart beat for the first time which was lovely, very strong and fast. My sister reckons girls have faster heart beats. Has anyone else ever heard that theory?. My sister is slightly obsessed with me having another girl though, she has 3 boys and unfortunatley received councelling afterward the 3rd because she so desperately wanted to have a girl.
Annie- i'm in Leicester, not that far from you really.
Jay- thanks for the advice, i think that if she had brought the subject up again (or if she ever does) I will be quite firm and tell her that I don't wish to discuss someone else's pregnancy etc! The ironic thing is, ater she had told me all these things about the Ex, she then asked if she gave my partner a hard time etc (which she does) and said that I should tel her to stop calling for no reason as I don't need the stress! Quite laughable really.

Kitty- I'm sorry to hear about your Granny.

Rosylily · 14/09/2006 09:53

sassilils your midwife sounds weird. Desperately trying to connect with you perhaps?
Kittywits you are like a professional giving-birther and should definately write a book! Very brave to be filmed in labour. I am too prudish for that. Though I did manage to have dd on the trolley in a public corridor on the way to delivery ward! But I still had my trousers on so no-one saw my bits!
A home labour is attractive to me because in labour I want to be really private and not have to face the world. Just concentrate on breathing in calmness. With my last 2 labours the hospital had a stupid policy of putting labouring women into the anti-natal ward. the place would be full of visitors etc. I didn't seem to get a transitional phase and was suddenly pushing and giving birth before 'they' were ready. I got no pain relief. Which is all very well but I am still waiting for a certificate and medal!
However, my house is hectic and my dh middle name is havoc. So this time I am going to a small hospital where I gave birth to ds1. I'm hoping for some drugs this time!
My bump has popped out a bit now so really looking pregnant now not just fat. Yay. 14 wks4

kittywits · 14/09/2006 10:19

Rosylilly professional giving- birther!!
I don't like giving birth, I hate the pain, it still scares the hell out of me everytime .
Having the birth filmed didn't feel atall intusive.
When I'm in the depths of labour I have no idea what is going on in the outside world and I don't care!!
It is so lovely to have a filmed record of the birth. I was given both the rushes and the programe that was on t.v. I often watch them and it's such a special keep-sake to have.
I felt a bit unsure when I was first approached
about it, but I would do it again like shot!!!

SassiLils · 14/09/2006 10:29

Kitty- what channel or programme were you filmed for?

I have been addicted to birthing programmes on sy recently and have made DP, DD and Stepson (can't bring myself to call him darling) watch them too!

Is there a chance I could have seen you giving birth?

I am in awe (Sp?) of you! Think it is fantastic

kittywits · 14/09/2006 10:44

saasiLills I Love watching all those birth progs as well. Mine was on Discovery home and Health, the home birth diaries. If you're interested mine's the one in falmer near brighton with a duckpond, near christmas time, loads of kids, and 9lb 20z baby Clara !!

anniediv · 14/09/2006 10:47

Puts a whole new spin on putting a face to a name!!

Just out of interest, do the film crew just hang around locally on the off chance you'll go in to labour?

SassiLils · 14/09/2006 10:48

Kitty, that is one of the channels I watch, I shall keep my eye out for yours then! I haven't seen it yet.

I'm trying to get DP into the idea of a homebirth, but no budging him yet. Not even sure if MW will let me but will try I had a 3/4th degree tear last time and had to have a small op a couple of months later to make good again. In your opinion do you think this may affect them allowing me to?

kittywits · 14/09/2006 10:51

Don't you mean a bum to the name?
No, what happened is a was asked if I was interested then just one person films. She was really nice and came round loads before the birth filming. Then when I went into labout I phoned her and she was round within minutes.
She is also a quialified midwife which was handy as mine didn't turn up for ages. She was the only one filming so there were no ganbs of men which lights and cameras, it all felt very private. I forgot she was there.

kittywits · 14/09/2006 10:55

Sassi, I don't know about the liklihood of tearing badly again. That was a nasty one ouch Was your baby in a bad position, was there lots of intervention? I think you need to discuss it with someone. Mine were all second degree tears. The last one didn't need stitching thank heavens. I suppose if the tearing was simply bad luck the chances are you wona't be so unlucky again. I think if you do tear badly at home then they need to transfer you to hospital to be stitched.

SassiLils · 14/09/2006 10:58

That's brilliant, It'll be a lovely for Clara to look back on one day.

My 7yr old DD says that she'd like to watch! won't allow of course but surprized she even wants to??

kittywits · 14/09/2006 11:03

It will be. Of couse all mine have seen it and haven't reacted negatively at all. To them I think it's natural, that's what happens when a baby is born.
Must get off this computer and do something!!!!

SassiLils · 14/09/2006 11:06

well it was a water birth so no one was actually close enough to see what was happening. I think she had her hand next to her head and I may have pushed too hard ??

I rememebr the midwife saying that she had done the best she could when stitching, which didn't fill me with confidence. It may have been a result of her not sitiching well rather than the tear being so bad?? I tore from top of labia and she failed to stitch the whole thing back so was left with a spare sort of flap (sorry ITMI) so when had op after they more of less just trimmed that extra bit off! quite gross really, bit like a female circumsion in the sense I had bits cut off! Uggg! makes me ill just remembering, sorry can't imagine how it's making you lot feel

anniediv · 14/09/2006 11:08

Sassilils, after dd1, the midwife made dh have a look at the stitches to 'see if I've done that right'.

Poor man nearly vomitted, it was all a bit much!!

SassiLils · 14/09/2006 11:12

Annie, Poor man! That sounds like she was a complete div or has a sick sense of humour

My gross brother always insists he said after his wife gave birth 'put an extra one in for me'. men hey??

kittywits · 14/09/2006 11:12

OMG sassi that's awful. I'm trying to imagine, So you so of tore up to the side rather than backwards or frontwards.

Annie I can't believe that. If someone had done that to my DH we would never have had sex again!!

SassiLils · 14/09/2006 11:16

Kitty, yeah I did. without being too graphic I tore my labia from near my little manin the boat, downwards. very painful and then even worse when i was left with an extra big that didn't belong anywhere!

I always wondered if it was unusual?? MW at time said that they don't normally stitch there. i think I should have had a registrar rather than a MW doing the sewing. Good news is, I mentioned at my booking in and I have got an appointment next month at hospital for them to have a look and see if it is a risk for this birth.

divastrop · 14/09/2006 11:16

morning.
hope everyone is ok?
i had a bad tear with dd1,i dont know how bad all i know is i had about 8 stitches cos her shoulders got stuck.Thats what happens when they make u give birth lying on ur back and wont let u move cos ur attached to a fetal heart monitor!!ds and dd2 were born with me on my knees,it felt so much more natural(and less painful).
rosylily, have u had drugs before in labour?

14+1

LunarSea · 14/09/2006 11:19

Hi can I join you? Am now either 12+6 according to dates, or 12+2 according to scan - so due somewhere between 23rd and 27th March. I'm sticking with the 23rd though as it's dh's birthday, and by coincidence our ds was due on, and born on, my birthday!

I haven't owned up to anyone until now as I had a m/c at 11 weeks last year (very sudden and very dramatic - I lost so much blood that I had to have an emergency op in the middle of Sunday night because my bp went through the floor and ended up stuck in hospital for 3 days) and couldn't face having to tell everyone again.

This time round has been so similar - absolutely no pg symptoms at all whereas I was queasy a lot in the early stages with ds - that I was absolutely convinced it was heading the same way. Talk about being relieved when the chronic tiredness hit me a couple of weeks ago - the first real sign that things are normal!

Anyway had a nuchal scan today (a bit of a luxury, but then you don't get the early scan here as standard any more and I needed to know) - and not only was there a very active bean bouncing around and turning somersaults - looked like it was deliberately bouncing against the sides and pushing off with it's feet some of the time, but the results were good too. Risk of 1:1209 (equivalent to a 15 year old apparently!) for Downs which is great considering I'm 41 and the background risk is 1:61.

Huge relief that everything seems hunky-dory after having spent almost all of the last 10 years ttc. I do already have one ds, who is just 5

Anniediv - you must be somewhere around Southam? Or Dunchurch maybe? Not far from me in Leamington.

SassiLils · 14/09/2006 11:21

Hi Lunar,

Pleased to hear that all went well with your scan . sorry to hear about you MC

I too am suffering from chronic tiredness, more so than I remember from last time.

SassiLils · 14/09/2006 11:27

Kitty, just read back one of my posts and I didn't mean that I wouldn't let DD watch your birth I just meant that I wasn't keen on her being present at mine.

She's seen lots on T.V but not sure if good idea to see her Mummy do it for real, if you understand what I mean,
