Hi Oklahoma, welcome! So sorry to hear people are feeling so rotten today. I hope you can get some rest in to recuperate. Glad to hear your letter worries have been resolved excited, good grief, no-one needs that!

Been away this weekend to my Mums. She tried to give me lots of her tops as she's bigger than me. I managed to get away with only taking 2! Just because they're bigger doesn't mean they work, I just looked like I didn't know how to dress myself!! Mum has already knitted baby a little hooded cardigan it is so cute. On the way home I think I felt the baby -felt like 3 bubbles bursting in a row. Want it to happen again so I can be sure!

Asos is doing 50 maternity items at 50% off btw. I have just done a rather large shop on there! Does anyone know where I can find maternity pyjama shorts? After I couldn't get in my regular ones I've been wearing dp's boxers to bed but they are starting to get tight now.

I don't think buying baby things now is a terrible thing, though I can understand some people would feel nervous, if you don't you should go with how you feel. We bought some tiny baby socks in my first pregnancy and I miscarried at 10 weeks. I can't say putting those socks away in a shoebox made it any harder for us. We hurt regardless, socks weren't going to make any difference.

mrsb87 · 28/04/2014 13:16

Ok ooh jen do you have a link to the asos 50% off?

gunwalloe · 28/04/2014 13:21

Does anyone know if I moved 300 miles away could I still give birth in the area I'm in now? I'm having a elcs. We were planning to move once baby arrived so that we had family support but I've just seen the perfect house on Rightmove

LondonJen · 28/04/2014 13:23

ASOS

If it doesn't work it's on the main navigation as 50% off 50 then select maternity

LondonJen · 28/04/2014 13:25

As far as I know Gun you can self refer to wherever you please? Esp if you are low risk.

Kirstipops · 28/04/2014 13:37

Hi Oklahoma (and to other newbies who've joined the thread!)
Binky's talk of reusable nappies has reminded me - what is the consensus here on them over disposables? I like the idea, being a would-be eco type who likes the idea of saving money here and there. Yay or nay, in your experience and if yay - any brands you would recommend?
CJ I'm glad your mind was set at rest (even if your temper was flared up by it!)

Gah double post. LondonJen I had the exact same sensation a couple of weeks ago (when I was 16-17 weeks)! I'm 18+2 today, haven't felt anything that I could specifically pin down as being baby-related in the last few days but I feel very aware of the size of my uterus, bizarre as that sounds, so I kind of feel like some "quickening" could be in the post?

mum2kiss · 28/04/2014 13:59

gunif you move pre baby will you still be staying in your current location around your due date? Just wondering if you plan on travelling 300 miles whilst in labour?!!

gunwalloe · 28/04/2014 14:00

LondonJen I'm high risk :( I've got a feeling it could be a nightmare typical! I should keep of Rightmove

gunwalloe · 28/04/2014 14:01

Mum2kiss I'm having a elcs at 39 weeks so would come down a few days before

mrsb87 · 28/04/2014 14:22

kirsti I'm going to give the disposables a go! A friend uses them currently and my sister and sister in law used them too. I'm going to a cloth nappy event on friday!

mum2kiss · 28/04/2014 14:33

I think I will use a mix of cloth and disposable. I think some people find it takes a couple of months for baby to be big enough for some types of cloth so you may find you need to use disposables in the early days.

gun what would happen if you went into labour before your elcs date? Would you just have an emcs in your new location?

gunwalloe · 28/04/2014 14:52

Mum2kiss I would set up a plan b at the local hospital but it's 30 miles away and is 5th baby so not sure I would make it.My last 4 were all late so hopefully a emergency wouldn't happen it's so hard my rational brain says I'm mad but the impulsive side wants the house

FrauEnglischLehrerin · 28/04/2014 15:26

Kirstipops I used cloth nappies during the day and disposables at night with dd. I started off with two-part nappies - inside and cover - which fit well even with a tiny newborn (although I wouldn't recommend the brand -Swaddlebees iirc - as the design made it hard to deal with pooey changes without getting poo on all the baby's clothes). Then I switched to pocket nappies which are fantastic, but didn't fit until 4-5 months. I had to return several pocket nappies as the PU coating started to detach, though. Babykind replaced them without quibble, but I was slightly annoyed by the thought that replacements were using up more resources. Those were Fuzzi Bunz. I will use them all again this time and hopefully I won't need any more replacements.

ruby I run English classes for kindergarten children (age 4-6). Most of them know my name, but a few just address me as "Frau Englischlehrerin" (Ms English Teacher, for those who don't speak German) Grin

trouble thanks for the tip. I will have to check out prices for Manduca slings over here, as I think they are a German company? It may not work out cheaper even with 20% off once I've factored in postage if they are generally cheaper here to start with.

puppythedog · 28/04/2014 16:01

I had a thread up recently about re-usable nappies. I ordered one to see off of e-bay. Mrsthedog and I want to use them and plan to but we shall see how it goes. One of the peices of advice I got was get ones thta fit your baby and it's a bit like buying shoes, they may say a size but may not quite fit right.
I bought the lovely cheapo ones that work out a fiver including a couple of inserts. It's bloody cute.

mrsb87 · 28/04/2014 16:13

You can borrow cloth nappies to see how you get on with them from nappies libraries. There's one in Shrewsbury that I know of but I'm sure there are places all over the country.

ohthegoats · 28/04/2014 16:37

I'm going to start with disposables, then move into reusables once I've got used to that whole looking after a baby thing.

I'm not ready to buy baby things yet though, I don't feel as excited as I think I should about the whole thing, I can't build a relationship or bond with someone I haven't met or even felt move... weirdly it's exactly how I always thought I would feel about pregnancy, almost as if it's an alien thing.

My MIL was saying about as soon as she was pregnant she knew that my now boyfriend was the most important thing in the world to her, over her husband etc. I haven't had that feeling at all. I assume it will come.

Me23 · 28/04/2014 17:24

I haven't bought anything either. Will probably start after anomaly scan once I know if everything look ok with baby and will be finding out the gender if baby obliges.
Plus any money we do have at the mo needs to go on new carpet and house decoration.

mum2kiss · 28/04/2014 18:23

Goats everyone is different. I wouldnt say that any one reaction to having a baby is the norm. Also your protective nature may not be triggered by a little life inside you but might kick into overdrive at the first sign of a fever/ illness, where as some mums wouldn't bat an eyelid! Neither trait means your love for your child is any greater or any less...some of my friends cried for days on the first day of school...I skipped off down the road glad that we'd made it to school age in one piece!

TroubleAndFyfe · 28/04/2014 18:54

True frau!
binky the site I mentioned www.babame.com sell tons of nappies so they'll also be 20% this week. I collected things throughout my pregnancy too, it's funa nd yes, spreads the cost! I've used two parters - fitteds ND pre folds and pockets. For my son the pockets leaked but lots of people love them..prefolds are fab as you fold them to fit the baby so you get a really good fit, my son's only ever worn 10 disposables (first two days of life as he came by surprise and nappies were still in the loft) so he was wearing them whilst tiny. They're very cheap and you can get them for next to nothing on ebay or the FB cloth nappy groups or actually for nothing on freecycle. Preloved ones are better as they gain absorbency with use plus you're saving the landfill so even more eco. Fitteds are really easy- they do up like a disposable with velcro then you put a wrap over the top to waterproof (as with prefolds) but I didn't use them when he was tiny so can't say about that. We used totsbots. Motherease wraps are very good but we have quite a range as most are from freecycle.
Regardless of the system you choose I'd recommend getting some bamboo boosters as we've used these at night with each type - they increase absorbency. They'd be a good thing to get in the sale but would also be easy to get on ebay or fb I assume - I got mine with my real nappies for London voucher!

Hi, please can someone add me to the list too? Sorry, I'm not sure how to do it! DC1 EDD 10th October. Thank you in advance!

I'm 16 weeks and do not have a noticeable bump. Does anyone else? Or did anyone else around 16 weeks? Now that the symptoms have worn off I don't really feel that pregnant anymore! Has anyone else felt like that?
