Yay free Three hours is amazing and 4.2 kg! Congratulations on your lovely daughter! I second bunny and buzz and hope you're resting and enjoying the cuddles. Your midwife couldn't have been more off Grin

Wow free! Congratulations. Delighted for you! 3 hours! Yay! Must be down to your prep - epi no, raspberry leaf teas and hypno birthing CDs. Hope you are enjoying lots of hugs with mini free Smile

sweetgrouch · 26/08/2014 15:39

free - I just saw the picture of your little girl - she's so cute! Congratulations again.

How is everyone? It's been very quiet lately.

Thanks ladies. To be honest, a 4250gram baby vaginal birth as a first in 3 hours with no pain killers (no time - believe me I was asking for them) was quite a shock for mind and body. I am still processing. Unfortunately minifree has been taken away to another ward today as they can see a rising infection in her blood and need to give her a course of antibiotics. They are not sure what it is but prefer to give antibiotics against the most common infections. It's shit being away from her but I'm trying to be grateful that they are keeping a close eye on her and taking no risks with her health.

sweetgrouch · 26/08/2014 22:35

Free - Once the shock wears off, I hope you don't feel too battered and bruised physically or emotionally. I'm so sorry for the worry with miniFree, I am offering a giant transatlantic hug and handhold Thanks. All of this happening at once is a huge shock to the system. I hope you can manage some rest so you can start to recuperate.

Oh free I'm so sorry to hear about mini free worries and the painful birth. I hope you both v recover soon. Live to you both.

WittgensteinsBunny · 27/08/2014 13:31

Free I'm so so sorry mini free is poorly and not with you Sad. I hope that it's short lived and they sort her infection out soon. As for yourself, birth is a shock. And it sounds like yours was hard and fast. Mini bunny was 4365g but a 56 hour labour and I felt pretty euphoric immediately afterwards. I remember the feeling of shock when the midwife told me she was so big and I remember sobbing when I first had a feel around "down there" in the shower and felt more stitches than they said I'd had. I was even more upset when DH laughed about me having a franken-fanjo! It heeled up soon and after about 3 weeks I had a look with a mirror and all was well. If you need to talk about the birth to sympathetic ears, please do. I remember it's all I could think about for a good couple of weeks after because it's such a life changing experience. I hope they are making you comfortable. Here to listen and handhold. Huge congratulations again, remember what an amazing thing you've achieved :)

Ginestas · 28/08/2014 20:34

Just popping in quickly from foreign climes to say a big congrats to free! I'm so pleased for you. Sorry to hear about the infection but sounds like they are taking good care of her. Hope you aren't too sore and shell shocked. My labour took forever (on the drip!) and I still felt very shocked by it all. It's such a major life changing event. I hope you can enjoy having mini F back by your side soon x

Lots of big luffs to everyone else on here.

Buzzybee123 · 29/08/2014 13:36

free I hope mini free is doing ok, I had a normalish birth and was traumatised for about 4 months, it does fade from memory a bit honest :)

sweetgrouch · 29/08/2014 19:38

Free - I hope all is well and that mini is improving.

seamermaid · 30/08/2014 09:29

Free. Thinking of you and mini free. How are you feeling? Hope mini free is improving and doing well.

What do you ladies think about baby first aid courses - useful or waste of time?

WittgensteinsBunny · 30/08/2014 09:35

Sea baby first aid is VERY useful. I still haven't got round to doing it but know loads of mums who've done it and say it's the best thing they've done. Especially for things like choking. I must sort that out actually.

Free thinking of you and baby free x

seamermaid · 30/08/2014 09:53

Thanks bunny. I'm contemplating a course. Might look into it. I found a nice app called British Red Cross for baby and child first aid. Worth checking out I think.

sweetgrouch · 30/08/2014 13:12

Hi sea I updated mine, I second bunny in saying baby first aid is very useful.

freedom2011 · 30/08/2014 14:42

Hi. We are still in hospital. I now released from the new mothers ward and allowed to be with mini free on children's ward. Separation has been emotionally challenging and made bonding and breast feeding tricky. On the plus side the infection seems to be pushed back by the antibiotics and checks on minifrees breathing, brain, kidneys, hearing have got the all clear. Tomorrow we have a infection level check and may been be able to go home in the evening

Thanks for your thoughts. sea I did a red cross course a few weeks ago and knowing I can keep oxygen flowing to minifree brain while an ambulance arrives is definitely a good investment in my confidence levels taking her home

freedom2011 · 31/08/2014 18:47

we have the all clear on mini free's infection and have been allowed to come home Grin

seamermaid · 31/08/2014 18:59

Hurray Free. So pleased for you and mini free. Enjoy it!

Thank you ladies for your thoughts on first aid. Will def look into classes.

Euro - how are you? How's C? Hope she is gaining weight and your section scar is healing well.

Luffs to all. X

sweetgrouch · 01/09/2014 01:23

Yay free! I hope the transition home is going smoothly.

OP posts:
sweetgrouch · 02/09/2014 17:37

Euro - I hope you're doing well and managing despite the sleep deprivation that is so relentless in the first weeks.

Buzz - How is bb?

Sea - how are you managing this last bit? Are you feeling any better?

Free- I'm thinking of you and hoping that all is well at home.

Bunny - How are things moving along? How far are you into the pregnancy?

AFM - I start work on the 15th and am feeling quite Sad about leaving mini. Aside from that, he has 2 new teeth! Mini also got his first wasp sting and Mr wanted to take him to emergency immediately. I've never seen him quite so panicked - all that to say that after a little ice and some comfort mini was fine. I think he is very nervous about being home alone starting on the 15th. waves and hello to everyone else!

Buzzybee123 · 02/09/2014 21:46

free yay to being able to go home :)

sea how are you doing??? When is your DD

sweet Is he going to nursery childminder or family ?? Its not something I am looking forward to but hope BB will enjoy nursery and the other babies. Yay to teeth, we are waiting for the top 2 to arrive, we had our first accident today, BB was standing up using the dining room chair, she fell back still holding the chair, there were tears and some blood from a cut in her mouth, she now has a bruise on her forehead, she bounced back pretty quickly though, she is easily distracted :)

mrsmellow hope you are ok

euro loving the photos on FB, how are things going

bunny how are you doing

WittgensteinsBunny · 03/09/2014 09:18

free that's fab news! Hope you're all settling in well.

sea hope you're getting on ok. This home straight now!

Sorry to hear about falls and wasp stings, sweet and free. We've had a few big bumps and falls. Mini bunny managed to open the oven a couple of weeks ago when it was on, and scared the life out of me. I grabbed her before she touched anything but it was scary!

You have my sympathies with teething. It just seems to go on and on here. We're cutting each molar very slowly. They seem to take about 3-4 weeks each. Poor little thing is really suffering but it seems to come in waves rather than be consistently bad. We've had some bad nights again recently, which is just exhausting.

I'm 10+5 today, it's my 12 week scan next Thursday. Feeling nervous, like I've made the whole thing up. I felt the same last time. I booked in with my midwife last week, same one as last time and she is just exactly what you would hope for. Everything looks straightforward so far, I'll be midwife led as there are no apparent problems at the moment. I've been throwing up the last few days. This morning to the chorus of a screaming baby, angry that I was giving a bucket attention rather than feeding her. Anyway. Grateful for a bit of a lie in today. Need to get up and eat in a minute and get ready to go to play group. Mini bunny has been running round our bedroom with a pair of boxers from the washing bin on her head and finding "treasure" Grin

WittgensteinsBunny · 03/09/2014 09:26

I forgot euro tsk I hope you're getting on well too. X

sweetgrouch · 03/09/2014 13:32

buzz - sorry about the fall, we've had quite a few, but without blood so far. I feel like the second they start to run around you're bound to be in for a few bumps and scrapes. I have the claim to fame of being the only child in my extended family who did not get stitches before their first birthday Hmm. Mini will stay home with Mr Grouch at first, then daycare once we find one accepting new children, I just really don't want to leave him - I have been incredibly happy with him at home these past few months.

Bunny - I understand the worry about finding nothing there during the first scan. I felt like that the whole way through Blush. Mini Bunny sounds incredibly cute running around and playing. I really think you are tough handling the sleepless nights on top of being pregnant! I have to say I gasped in horror at the idea of mini opening the oven door - he is already fascinated by all our kitchen gadgets, you made me realize that it is really only a matter of time...

Buzzybee123 · 04/09/2014 21:20

sweet very true, she is the climbing/standing/pulling up phase, obsessed about doing it in the bath Hmm I don't get much time away from BB so have to say I do enjoy it when I am away but usually she is with Barry who I trust with her, inlaws are starting to get better with her, she does love being with them, they are just a bit unsure what to do. MIL did surprise me by discussing what she needs to babyproof their place :) I am keen for BB to go to nursery, I hope she loves it, I hope she loves the other kids and the stimulation she will get, I know I will find it hard when she first starts and it will take some time to adjust

seamermaid · 04/09/2014 22:53

Hi all
Free - are you all home now. How's the first few days. I hope you are loving it and getting some sleep at least.

Bunny - sorry to hear about sickness. Scans are nerve racking. I hope it's all fine for you and you sail pass 12 weeks.

Buzz - sorry to hear about fall. Ouch. Glad to hear your in laws are helpful. They sound lovely. I remember FIL was a bit funny to begin with. Glad they are supportive and helpful. It must make such a big difference to have grandparents around.

Sweet. Congrats on the job. It will be hard to go back to work I'm sure but I'm sure you will all adjust soon enough. How long have you been off on maternity leave?

Euro i hope you and C are doing well.

I'm 36 + 5 today. Am counting the hours until I go on maternity leave. I really hope baby isn't too early as I really need at least a week to test before I can face labour. I have a karate kid in there. Endless kicks rolls and flips all day and all night long and he's getting really strong now. It really feels like someone has taken over my body Grin
