That'll do nicely bugs!

maamalady · 24/04/2014 12:28

Seems reasonable, bugs Grin

The postman woke me up from my morning nap, grr. And he looked all grumpy when I actually opened the door. Oh well, he brought me a whole stack of nursing bras and a gorgeous blanket :)

There is no excuse for CM pictures. Test sticks I can live with, but bodily fluids are a bit much Hmm

katandkits · 24/04/2014 14:51

That blanket is gorgeous! I am getting to the stage of thinking about hospital bag. This is all happening too fast. I am not ready!

maamalady · 24/04/2014 15:44

Isn't it just? I like both the "girls" and "boys" ones too, but am avoiding getting too much in pink/blue. I too am thinking about hospital bag - I should probably start my packing soonish just to get it done, but so far procrastination has won... We have got in two bags of jelly babies for labour fuel, though Grin

ALittleFaith · 24/04/2014 16:01

I luff that blanket draf. Blimey those June dates do sound quite soon now!

CM pictures I recall one woman flouncing off a regular thread when she discovered most of us checked our cervix.

katandkits · 24/04/2014 16:35

Last time I packed labour snacks when I did bag at 34 weeks. By 37 weeks I had scoffed them all and had to buy them again!

ALittleFaith · 24/04/2014 17:24

Most of the labour snacks I packed were for MSB so gluten yumminess. Never came out the bag during my labour!
He's still got some left Hmm weirdo.

maamalady · 24/04/2014 18:01

Hehe, good work, kat Grin I think I should be okay in that regard, as they're for a specific purpose rather than just general sweets, IYSWIM. Like Christmas presents or Easter eggs - it's really easy to leave well alone because they're not for me. Or in this case, not for me right now :)

What are you all thinking of packing for labour, food-wise? I'm thinking the same sort of things as for long-distance cycling should work; snickers bars, cereal bars, jelly babies, and isotonic drink. At least all those are nice, so would be good post-labour too! If I was going to be really cycling-specific I'd pack protein for afterwards, but I doubt there will be facilities for making omelettes/bacon sandwiches or for keeping chocolate milk cold Hmm

OP posts:
maamalady · 24/04/2014 18:07

Speaking of cycling, the Giro d'Italia begins in a fortnight, hurrah! The depart is in Ireland so the Grand Tours are very local this year! I'm still holding out hope of getting to go to see stage three of Le Tour in Cambridge on 7th July - fingers crossed it's an easyish birth and baybee is not miles past her due date...

CatsCantFlyFast · 24/04/2014 18:40

Great news bugs

I had to replenish snacks in my hospital bag almost daily for 3 weeks. In the end the labour was so quick I didn't have chance to have any of them. Which is good as all that was left from that days raid was some cereal bars (which I scoffed afterwards)

eurochick · 24/04/2014 19:09

Great result bugs.

Nice buying draf.

They sound like good labour snax. I am a big fan of Nakd bars - mostly dried fruit so good for energy but they don't seem to give me the same sugar rush as a chocolate bar. And they are easier to eat than actual dried fruit. I tend to pack them for flights in case the food is awful! Trek bars are good too - more protein-y.

I had several packs of Haribo, cereal bars and non-fizzy isotonic drinks in my hospital bag - apparently you're more likely to puke on the fizzy drinks, but I puked when my waters went anyway!

E finally had a poo this afternoon so she seems a lot more comfortable this evening. She's still fussing a bit when feeding but I think that's more to do with her tongue feeling a bit different rather than pain. Hopefully she'll settle soon but the main thing is that she's feeding.

FriendofDorothy · 24/04/2014 20:31

Please can I have just a small whinge...

I have an 'acquaintance' on FB and she has serious physical health issues such as chronic pain, ME etc etc and she claims to be able to do next to nothing (although she is very able to go out on nice days out and holidays etc) and she also has substantial mental health issues.

So, here's the thing, she is about 18 weeks pregnant. Rather annoyingly having decided she wanted a baby she got pregnant quite quickly. Now all I hear is how tired she is, how sick she is etc etc.

She seems to have no idea what it is actually going to be like to have a baby. She claims she needs to sleep for about 12 hours at night ans several hours a day to just cope. I am genuinely worried about what is going to happen when this baby comes.

She also said that she hopes she has a girl as she will 'be a better carer than a boy'.

I am struggling not to froth at the mouth and I am just wondering whether I am being really mean.

The thing is that I have thought about unfriending her a number of times but if I do that the only people who are left commenting are those enabling her crackpot ideas and thought processes.

I (and a few others) are the only people making sensible points it would seem!

katandkits · 24/04/2014 21:01

I would just steer well clear and unfriend her. You don't need her drama especially if she is not a real life friend. If her issues are genuine they will likely get flagged up by the midwife for referral to social services.

katandkits · 24/04/2014 21:02

I can understand your anger though, especially the awful comment about the baby being her carer.

Bugs the headaches get better I promise. I felt like I was mainlining paracetamol for the first 15 weeks or so and then overnight the headaches went away. It's a hormonal thing but keep drinking lots of water too.

Dor that's an awkward situation with your "friend", I don't know what to suggest but it sounds like you're right to be concerned.

We've got our first baby massage class this morning so hoping that goes well.

RaspberrySnowCone · 25/04/2014 08:33

Hello ladies,
Just thought I would pop in and say hi as I've been MIA for a while. It's mostly noobs on the BESH thread now? I disappeared from the other place a month or so ago too. Feeling much better and more positive after a mini mega meltdown back at the end of Feb. I was signed off for a few weeks in the end and have now given up some of my management responsibilities at work, just stepping back a bit really. Still don't feel ready to do IVF again, originally we had thought about May but now it's next week there is not a chance. It's not the physical stuff, it's the potential for another BFN. We are just going to see how it goes. I also realised during my counselling that I have triggers that make me panic about not having a baby, sadly mumsnet is one of them and so is FB hence decided to leave both. I've felt so much better the last few weeks too but wanted to say hi and its great to see you getting on well with your babies :)

Good luck to those due to burst soon! xx

Hello rasp! I'm sorry to hear you have been having a rough time of it. I agree with bugs-you will get to a point when you know it's right to go ahead.

Bugs acu sorted my headaches really well. They went away for two weeks, very briefly came back and then stopped for good. It was such a relief not to have one everyday.
