Oh thanks Marls

mabel1973 · 13/08/2006 20:56

well the room is painted! Just the glossing to do. We have wallpaper to go up, but if it doesn't go up before he arrives, it's not the end of the world.
Marls re: schedules / routines, inspite of 'you know who's' threats to MN. I am still going to use her routines (loosely) I did it with DS and it worked a dream. I guess we'll be able to discuss it freely without fear of shutting down the whole site on Yahoo!
Liquid / Marls - I BF DS for 6 months and he still got excema - so I don't think it's the 'cure all' that some people think it is.
we have another case of hiccups here - I am wondering whether it is related to the fact that I have been having the odd sneaky glass of wine in the last few weeks?!

tassis · 13/08/2006 20:58

Hi everyone!

Not posted for ages, but been reading your chat.

Can't believe we're all nearly there and there are 3 September babies already here. Congratulations to the new mummies.

I feel enormous and uncomfortable and disorganised so hoping posting here again will help me get my butt in gear to do a few jobs!

(Can someone talk me through the yahoo thingy if it'd be OK for me to join in?)

Marls001 · 13/08/2006 21:15

tassis - please do join on yahoo & here's how again: go to
groups.yahoo.com/group/sept2006 and click "join this group" - I'll just approve and you'll be set. So sorry for "approval" thing everyone - the only way I knew to make sure it's just people who've been on this thread who can see our pics & etc. ... will do it ASAP tassis when I know you've been on ...

Mabel - what routines of hers did you use / were useful? Will post from "Babywise" too when I can; think that might be somewhat her US equivalent. Maybe among all these experts' advice we can find some patterns that taken together will be good for those hard first few months!

tassis · 13/08/2006 21:46

Thanks Marls

Currently I use dh's ID for yahoo groups like freecycle, but I'd like my own for this!!

I'll need to get dh to talk me through this and i'll join you very soon!

Looking forward to discussing routines amongst other things. We used the lady in question last time too.

Has anyone else not packed their bag yet? Not due until 21st, and not even thought about it.

Jobs for the week are to buy new matresses for crib and pram, wash carseat covers and book TENS machine.

liquidclocks · 13/08/2006 23:59

Yay!! 2,958 words! - It was supposed to be 3,000 but sod it, near enough!

Tomorrow I will officially be study free and then only paid work to sort out before LO arrives!

Tassis - I'm being super organized, bags been packed for a week but I'm due on the 28th - be VERY surprised to get that far though. (sods law now I've said that I'll go over). I have also built cot, painted nursery (and bathroom, our bedroom next week) washed carpets, washed bouncer chair cover, mowed the lawn (twice in 2 days), sorted out all newborn clothes - DH thinks I'm nesting, can't think why...

Marls - I used the unspeakable routine, now I have some free time I can post it on the yahoo (along with a commnetry on what actually worked and what didn't if you like), if memory serves me right Clairemow used it a bit too. I think I might pop down to the bookshop tomorrow though and get the baby whisperer as I might need a bit more flexibility this time what with already having DS.

tassis · 14/08/2006 08:44

LC - well done for getting it finished. Enjoy some time off now! You do sound very organised.

We have a children's club at church every morning this week so I'm just heading off to that. Bet I'm on my knees by Friday!!

mabel1973 · 14/08/2006 08:51

morning!
glad we're all not super organised on here, makes me feel better!
I have almost packed bag , but nor quite (keep puttingh in another item each day as I think about it!) as I'm due on the 7th though i really ought to get my bum in gear.
still haven't even got the bouncy chair or moses basket out of the attic to wash, as unti; the nursery is completed we have nowhere to put them! we already have various bits of furntiure crowding our bedroom and DS's bedroom.
Bit wierd but I had a dream about BF the new baby last night - I have been worrying about it a bit. I always wanted to feed DS myself , but wasn't sure how I'd feel about it, but in the end It was fine, but even though I've done it once before I am still not feeling 100% about it this time. I think it is that feeling that after 9 months of pregnancy I would like my body back thank you very much!
Anyone else DS / DD's being a bit clingy? DS has always been a real daddy's boy, but he is being very very loving with me and quite clingy which is totally unlike him, I am wondering if it's a developmental thing, or if he's worrying about the baby arriving and taking my attention away.

clairemow · 14/08/2006 09:36

hi all,

yes, liquid, I used the unspeakable book too - although maybe I got a bit too hung up on it... Don't think I'll be as religious this time... But DS slept all night from 9 weeks from late feed, and 7-7 from 13 weeks, so I figured it was worth the sacrificing lunches out!!! We sound as though we have done things very similarly - just posted on another thread agreeing with you!

Got to go, DS says he's making a cup of tea, and I can hear pouring water in the kitchen... Yikes.

pol26 · 14/08/2006 09:42

Morning all,

Off to clacton today to spend time in MIL caravan- are we mad, the weather is awful but no other plans to go away and we're just sat doing nothing really... Plus she wants DP to do some painting while he's there too.

Think i've dropped, as seem to have had a good nights sleep and be breathing alittle better really.

Gotta go, will catch up with you all later as DD is frantically trying to help!

mabel1973 · 14/08/2006 10:30

Have a good time Pol - also meant to say to you that if your friend does decide to use re-usable nappies, you can get money back from your local council if they are running an incentive scheme.
I got fifteen pounds back from notts county council, but I know my brother who lives in leicester got thirty five pounds - it all helps.

Gizmo · 14/08/2006 10:31

Hello hello

Reading about all of you packing your bags and decorating your nurseries is a bit of a wake up call, I must say - I'm not due until end of September so have done nothing like that yet.

Although, by a strange osmotic process, we do seem to have acquired nearly all the clothes we will need already - various friends have dropped off 'a few bits and bobs' which normally turns out to be an enormous binbag full of clothes. I'm not complaining, as after my first I was so adamant that there could be only one that I gave away all baby clothes and equipment PDQ. Funny how hormones make you eat humble pie, isn't it?.

In fact, because we have builders in to totally rebuild the back of the house, we will be a bit pushed for space when DS2 arrives, so it's lucky that we didn't keep all the stuff from last time. DS2 is rationed to 2.5 drawers for his stuff, I get 1.5 drawers (and two cupboards) for mine. DH gets 3 drawers (and a wardrobe) - and no he is not a clothes horse! Just doesn't throw out old clothes often enough.

Pelvis and back are feeling a bit creaky right now, but nothing to really write home about: main problem is just the tiredness. I was toying with the idea of demolishing a wall over the weekend, while DH was away sailing, but found that just keeping up with DS1 left me pretty wiped out. Compared to my last pregnancy, this last trimester is definitely a lot more work. I think I might go to Boots at lunch and invest in some iron tablets, just in case the breathlessness and tiredness might be a sign of something more than simply being pregnant...

liquidclocks · 14/08/2006 12:28

Hi all - my manager at work has just had the fab idea of suggesting I get a tens machine to help with my hip pain - just thought I'd share the idea as she's absolutely right - it should help.

Back to work for now though, will read your messages later!

clairemow · 14/08/2006 12:38

DS' cup of tea was in fact cold coffee from the jug all over the kitchen floor, with him in the middle holding up a mug saying "Mummy's cuppa tea". So lots of mopping later, we were ready to go out...

Gizmo, I have found this pregnancy much harder too, I think it's keeping up with the older one at the same time, and not being able to lie down whenever you want. I remember lying down ALOT during mat leave last time... This time, I'm at the park, trying to stop DS killing himself by climbing a metal helicopter.

The back ache is back, although like Pol said I am sleeping a bit better now the baby has dropped down, although I don't know why that would be. Getting up 3 times a night now instead of 6!!

pol26 · 14/08/2006 13:34

Well we haven't gone yet... decided to let DD go to sleep in car for her afternoon nap, as there will be no chance of her settling once we're there- she will be far too excited.

Just had lunch and i'm feeling SICK!!! Nearly thought the whole lot was going to come up onto my plate.

Glad everyone is ok and puddling along, I can totally see that this preg is much harder as I too did a lot of lazing on the sofa last time- because it was my first; plenty of murder she wrote and chocolate and naps. This time its all go and this time I have mumsnet too!

Emailed my buddy back about the sure start grant and nappy schemes, she actually lives in Loughborough which is near to Leicester so maybe that would work out worth her while. Also have got my sister on the case of searching out baby stuff for her!

As for 'the book' I brought it but never stuck to it but the ideas and the structure are there to be adapted by every one and when I went for my antenatal check last week a leaflet was up in there- I think she's planning on doing a supernanny tyoe thing but with babies as they were asking for failies/expectant mums to call the bbc!

Well suppose I ought to start thinking about getting the car stocked up and ready for the off...

p.s. Slept better but walking and anytype of moving is even harder now i've dropped... Feeling like I either need a wee or a huge poo (sorry if tmi) the whole time i'm stood up when I don't. Oh well at least sleep will be ressumed- although not on full par, half is better than none

clairemow · 14/08/2006 14:00

Pol, laughed at the poo thing - I keep thinking I'm starting contractions and then realise I just need to go and "sit down"!!!! embarrassing when I wake DH up to warn him something might be happening... Hahaha!!

liquidclocks · 14/08/2006 15:06

Marls - thanks for the well done but I promise I'm not that organised really - just pressured. I've promised my manager some work now for monday that I'll have to work all week and weekend at - why do I do this to myself??? (at least she had good pain advice though with the TENS)

Pol - isn't sickness after eating nr due date sometimes a sign that things are about to get going...?

Claire - your DS is so cute - bet he thought you'd be really pleased! Mine 'helps' me mow the lawn at the moment by picking up the cuttings from the beds when I've edged it - trouble is now he's trying to rip up the actual grass now but looks so pleased to be helping I can't tell him off!

Well, apart from the TENS idea I've decided to go and whinge to the doctor this afternoon and maybe get some different pain relief for my hip. Hope there's something I can take, it's so unfair not being able to use paracetamol like everyone else. grumble grumble - sorry!

I've suddenly felt VERY pregnant today - I know that might sound odd but I went for a short walk accross the campus earlier to another building and found I couldn't walk properly - more of a waddle! Also every 100 metres or so I kept getting thos red hot poker feelings down below and some really strong BH's - feel like an old woman! Get out LO - I need my body back!!!

liquidclocks · 14/08/2006 15:07

oops - sorry, new browser and I can't get the hang of the password system

tassis · 14/08/2006 15:09

Mabel, our ds has been quite clingy too. He starts pre-school nursery on Aug 29th so he may also be a tad anxious (as well as v excited!) about that. He's been doing lots of pretending to be a baby, pretending to breastfeed (nice!) and wanting lots of cuddles etc. Cute wee man, how his world is about to be shaken up...

Agree that this semester is way harder work than last time. my ribs hurt, my pelvis hurts and I feel like i'm walking like a 90 year old. I sleep OK but wake about 5.20am and only doze from then on.

tassis · 14/08/2006 15:11

LC - posts crossed. Snap re old lady and waddling! Hope the doc is at least sympathetic. STOP WORKING!!!

liquidclocks · 14/08/2006 15:37

I know I should - just haven't been brave enoguh to tell my manager I want to bring forward my leave yet [quivering fearful emoticon] - part of the problem is that she's so nice!

Treggers · 14/08/2006 15:46

Hi all

Am new to this! Not long to go and as I don't know anyone else who is in same boat, it is good to hear what you are all experiencing!

My stats:
age: 30
Married for year and a half, hubbie is nearly 35.
First baby! Don't know the sex..
EDD: 16/09/06
Am feeling very excited, but nervous. Never changed a nappie before!!!!

Look forward to gossiping some more...

Marls001 · 14/08/2006 16:11

Welcome Treggers! You'll get the hang of diapers ... I'd never held a baby before DS1 at the hospital!

Hospital bag not packed here ... we have a list. It'll be packed later on this month, at some point (probably by DH while I'm in labor).

Dr. appt. tomorrow; will be discussing birth plan and where to go once we arrive at the hospital. If it were all up to me, would still want water birth. Have told DH, I'll be in our tub at home for as long as possible before going to hospital!

Mabel, our DS (just turned 3) is also not quite being himself - has also been clingy with Daddy ... we think he has some kind of 6th sense about baby's arrival. But DH & I are also not quite ourselves, holing up at home, hibernating ... kind of enjoying the "end of an era," in this waning time while it's just the three of us.

Liquid - Congratulations on the focus for that huge essay! I always work the best under pressure ... drawings being just cranked out these days at faster pace than usual; deadlines really work!! But soon consider taking it easy from the job while you can ... it's one thing to be in a studio at home, put your feet up ... quite another to have to commute to a real job job and be professional. Last time (with DS1) I took leave at 7 months!

Trotsky/Claire - neglected to say how cute you looked at the wedding! It's always nice to be able to put a name with a face!

liquidclocks · 14/08/2006 20:17

Marls - deadlines are good for me too! I just can't work as well when I'm relaxed, I just hope LO doesn't put in an appearence just yet as the state of my 'paid' work is embarrassing at present, really got to pull my socks up this week! It's just that really I'm the only person in my team who can do my job and the amount of work I have to do is still the same but just has to be crammed into a shorter time period around my maternity leave. Thankfully due to health and safety regulations here I can work form home for the remainder of my pregnancy apart from pre-arranged meetings.

My visit to the doctors was a success - apparently it's ok to take codeine (without paracetamol mixed in) when pregnant so I've been given some to take but unfortunately it has the same adverse effects as iron tablets ! Anyway the pharmacist has recommended something to help with that too so hope it works!
