Hi
This is a thread for people due in October with past miscarriage issues, so we don't scare the 'regular' October people and we don't annoy the RM thread with our pregnancy talk...

jbird what dose will you move up to and from if you don't mind my asking? Also do you know why this is to be moved at 20 weeks? Ie: what is the significance of changing the dose then?
The reason I ask is because my heparin is being stopped apparently at 14weeks, I am not sure why this is and I feel like I want it for the duration of the pregnancy.
Any info would be appreciate xx

squizita · 26/02/2014 14:58

Fedup, Bugs and Allis I'm in the grumpy club too. Paperwork, feel sick as a dog and a 'weird colour cm' scare. Grumble grumble.

fedupofrainydays · 26/02/2014 15:06

Got a fucking parking ticket didn't I. Bollocks.

I have fallen out with everyone round here... I'm longing for my bed. But they have all pissed me off.

squiz what's happened to the cm? Do you think it was poo? I have that every time and my heart stops.

Does anyone else when going to the loo really slowly take down their knickers (and tights if relevant) for fear of what might see. And similarly really slowly wipe in case it's something you don't want to see....? Or just me being a weirdo.

fed It's also part of my knocker-checking ritual. I literally hold my breath when I wipe, too. And then examine the tissue from every possible angle (the lighting in our work loos is crap). Glad I'm not the only one Grin

Tum I will be on heparin for the whole of my pregnancy. I'm taking Fragmin (Dalteparin - different from Clexane) and am currently on 5000U/day. This will be doubled when/if I reach 20 weeks - the reason being that your metabolism increases up when you are further along in your pregnancy, so I will be injecting twice a day to keep the levels up continuously (as opposed to injecting the double dose just once).
The reason why the docs want to stop your heparin after the 1st trimester is probably your indication - why were you prescribed it? I'm on it because I had a pulmonary embolism a few years ago, which is caused by a DVT. Pregnancy increases the risk for DVTs, so I was told back then that I would have to take anticoagulants, should I fall pregnant, as my risk is even higher due to having had one before. So in my case, the heparin has nothing to do with trying to support the pregnancy as such, it is to protect me.
I hope this helps!

Hi ladies- get me added to the list yipeee!
The scan was great! The little rhing never stopped moving around. She said everything looks great! I am so happy I could burst. I am now 12w 4 days. I really never thought I would get this far. Am hoping I can relax for a few weeks before the next scan countdown starts. Still no symptoms so chin up for those without any. It doesn't seem to matter with me.

millysdream mc feb 2013, mc April 2013, mc august 2013- all around 6-7 weeks. EDD 6th sept

Tumtimes1 · 26/02/2014 16:19

milly I am so happy for you! This is fantastic news!!!! Yeah!!! You just be over the moon.

x

SweetPeaPods · 26/02/2014 16:27

Great news Milly.
I'm just back from my scan all looks good. Going to scan me again next wk too.
Nausea still here, plus a horrible cold, and ds has it too so won't sleep, so very grumpy here.

JBrd · 26/02/2014 16:31

Great scan news, milly and sweetpea! Really happy for you, hope you can relax a bit!

squizita · 26/02/2014 21:02

Fedup think it was poo (TMI) all OK after that. Yup, I check the lighting and angle when I go to the loo, no shadows in my knicks gonna scare me. After the weewee wipe I sometimes do "Wipe 2: this time it's personal (mucus)".

JBird ah, that explains the different doses. I was getting worried I wasn't stabbing my muffin tops with needles enough!

Glad to hear the scans went well Milly and Sweetpea.

St Mary's rang me today - no record of me being graduated last week! But they knew it had happened. Paperwork doh! Sorted once I confirmed yes that was me having a scan and a rummage indeed.

fedupofrainydays · 26/02/2014 21:22

Yay for good scans milly and sweetpea

My day from hell has come to an end so off to bed.

Glad I'm not the only weirdo with funny crotch watch habits. I too have two wipes, hold my breath and check at all sorts of angles. What's happened to us ladies, I was once quite a calm, controlled and unflappable woman - 18 months ttc and a couple of mc later I'm a total nut job!

squiz glad it was just poo, if you know what I mean Grin

TaytoCrisp · 26/02/2014 21:27

Great news milly and sweet on good scans. Especially great to be so far past dates of previous mcs milly.

Jbrd a pulmonary embolism must have been very scary for you! I had a chest tightness in the hospital today and was convinced I might be having one - but the doc checked with the stethoscope and all was fine- must have just been anxiety during the booking appointment. I though I was more resilient to psychosomatic stress than I actually am! I'm on fragmin 5000 U/day for the whole pregnancy for factor iv Leiden.

Keep well ladies, I'm in the bunk early again tonight- so tired. Look forwarding to functioning a bit better in another few weeks (hopefully!).

ohthegoats · 26/02/2014 21:45

I'm sorry for crashing this thread from the other October one, but I have some questions about those of you taking heparin.

I am Factor V Leiden, and have a history of DVT (leg and abdomen), and knew right from my first DVT in 1999 that if I was ever pregnant, I'd have to inject heparin daily.

Are you managing not to bruise yourself?
I've been injecting Clexane on and off for years - always in my stomach, since I have extra flab there (!), and sometimes I can get away with no pain and no bruise, yet other times it KILLS, and stings for an hour or so. At the moment I'm on Fragmin. I've tried flicking the air bubble to the top before injecting, flicking the air bubble to the end (and stopping with the plunger before the air goes in, since that seems to sting more), and I alternate sides of my tummy, too. But it's still quite a miserable thing - I can't wear my jeans anymore because they do up around the bruise line, and when I cough it sort of pulls at the bruises, as if I've injected into the muscle or something (I haven't).

Any tips to make it easier?

JBrd · 26/02/2014 23:08

Goats - I'm afraid that I can't help you much re the bruising, my lower tummy is black and blue at the moment Confused To be honest, it's never been this bad... I have heard from other people that they use ice before and after injecting to counteract bruising, that might be something to try maybe?
I'm better at getting the hang of the pain - no pinching of the skin whatsoever, and I don't immediately pull the needle out either. Have you ever tried injecting in the thighs? I think that's also recommended, but maybe check.

Anybody else got done tips and tricks for heparin bruising, I'd also be keen to hear them!

squizita · 27/02/2014 08:32

Goats unfortunately like you I find it slightly random. Most days a moment's burn and no bruise then about once every 10 days a nasty purple one (twice as big as my hand, meaning I had to change from belly to upper thigh fat). I've been getting better though! Grin
I try to:
-Ask for the injections with the smaller plunger, they seem to have a finer needle
-Ice the area for 30 sec before
-touch the needle on the skin; if it feels painful, try a cm to the left/right. This has reduced my smaller bruises immensely. Also, I messed it up once and had a bump under the skin, but even that didn't turn into a massive bruise. I think nerves surround blood vessels or something.
-Smoothly push in the clexane over 10 seconds, try not to wobble the needle for the 'click' which retracts it.
-Ice for 20-30 seconds with hardly any pressure. Gently wipe blood or clexane drop on skin as soon as I see it (if seen)
-No hot shower for 5 min afterwards.

There's a good PDF of tips from Scunthorpe (I think!) NHS trust on google, I got some of these ideas from there!

squizita · 27/02/2014 08:33

...the hand size bruise only happened twice, I mean. I've been injecting since 3rd Jan. Not weekly bruises x2 the size of my hand, that would be nasty!

squizita · 27/02/2014 08:34

...oh and yes, try not to inject on the line of your trousers. I think it can aggravate it! Any excuse to wear leggings lol. Actually that's why I prefer thighs.

TinyTear · 27/02/2014 08:36

hooray on all the good scans... I am countdowning to mine next tuesday...

Milly shall add you to the list later (unless somone can do it first)

Oh bugs the wait is just awful, isn't it? It gets worse the closer you get to your scan. Try deep breaths.
Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do, so please try not to think too much about the What-Ifs (easier said than done, I know!). Just remember that you are a strong person, think about what you have had to deal with in the past, and that you have made it through. You can deal with anything that life throws at you!
What time is your scan? Good luck, will be thinking of you. Everything crossed for good news.

I am so hungry all the time! I dragged DS to the supermarket last night, so that I could get some Babybels - and I forgot to take them to work with me today, waaaahhh! I could just eat all the time, it is insane. Oatcakes are good and filling, especially when combined with a glass of water, but even they don't last long at the moment. Counting down the minutes to mealtimes...
And I can't wait for DH to come back from his ski trip. He is having a fantastic time, apparently Angry Whereas I am so shattered that I could cry... Plus, he is a much better cook that I am. I tried making a risotto last night, which came out very mediocre. And now I have to have the leftovers for lunch. Bring on Saturday! He will get no grace period when he comes back, straight into the kitchen to make some lasagne andor fish pie

Bugs been there! It sucks. FX like me you'll have a normal scan and just be one of those people with fluctuating symptoms. I'm convinced my boobs haven't grown enough (DP says they are enorm, but they are normally Grin so I dunno).

Jbird I'm hungry sometimes, pukey sometimes. Today I had to do a strategic boak on the way to supervising "quiet" study. "Quiet" as today there are whisperers who have had the definitely non-whispery "DOYOUKNOWTHISISSILENTSTUDYTIMEYOUNGMAN?!" + glare treatment.

Found this website for nervous types like me. Just matter-of-fact birth stories, good/bad/normal with an intro to tell you 'this is good', 'this might scare you'. It doesn't seem either to woo or too medical.
