All of us May mummies are BACK like the Terminator only less deadly (unless preggo rage strikes and we're within waddling distance of sharp things)

I've just spent three nights in hospit because of unstable blood sugars as I'm type 2 diabetic! All sorted now have a growth scan in 2 weeks as I surely don't want a macrosomic baby!!!

Please if they are requesting gtt get it done. There's a reason they want it and gestational diabetes can be dangerous to mum and baby :-(

wm3010 · 28/01/2014 16:57

I'm off to pregnancy yoga for the second time this evening. Still doing normal body balance and my usual aerobics class plus a few short walks every week which are definitely good for me - got a lot more aches and pains when everything was off over Christmas!

RE swimming - read that breast stroke is rubbish for PGP/SPD so that is something to watch out for, and it is putting me off a bit as I always do breast stroke. Haven't got "proper" PGP but have a sacroiliac problem (back joint rather than front) which has been around for a while and is flaring up occasionally in pregnancy so don't want to make it worse.

Stopping work on 17 April, will be 37 weeks exactly. Going to take the first 2 weeks as annual leave then start mat leave the week of my due date.

bushprincess · 28/01/2014 17:10

long sorry its such a pain, but sounds like it's probably worth doing the GTT if they are pushing it... better safe than sorry...

mrsmummy I was the only one that turned up to yoga today! was lovely to have a relaxing one-on-one with the instructor - she's a doula too so it's really tailored towards getting us ready for birth... here's hoping it helps!

mumof2 glad to hear you attribute your easy births to swimming, I was training regularly before getting pregnant (train with the triathlon club here) and have just kept going... we cover 1.2-1.8km a session depending on what drills we do, but I cut out most of the speed work pretty early on and just plod away instead!

anyone out there about thinking of jumping in the pool - go for it! (at a slow and steady pace!) it's wonderful to be unencumbered for a while!!

mrsfoo glad you're feeling a bit better today, but maybe you should see your GP/councilor for advice - and if they suggest meds then maybe your DH could come into the appointment too so they could put his mind at rest?? and re your dog - have you tried a haltie/gentle leader? I find them great to stop a dog pulling without being harsh - it would be so great for you to get back out with your little hound!!

thistle are your sugar levels stable now? are you back home? Hope you're feeling ok!

dobe so pleased all is well - I think my little one must be lying across too as I keep getting a lopsided bump!!

bushprincess · 28/01/2014 17:11

oh and nanny enjoy your freedom! I hope you're not in so much pain that you can't get some good rest!

ClearlyMoo · 28/01/2014 17:26

Oh! I'm so relieved to hear of other "lopsided bumps" mine is def lopsided today. I've just had a massive nap as back was so sore. Will be working into the evening to make up time (I am WFH) but feel better. I also have sacroiliac joint issues. Haven't worn my serola belt for ages but going to get it out of the car now and see if it helps.

LongTailedTit · 28/01/2014 17:28

mrsFoo the new job sounds great! Fingers crossed all goes well, it's sounds brilliant!

Thistle & McBaby - that's the thing tho - there doesn't appear to be a reason for it! I have NO risk factors! I really have no problem having it if it's necessary, but if it isn't then I'd rather not.

I can't find anything online that says a sibling having had GD once/at all increases the risk. Family members with actual diabetes, yes, but not GD.
DSisis the only person in my family with any experience of any form of diabetes. No other risk factors apply.

My midwife is a high-speed box-ticker with very little interest in my personal circs, to the point that she filled in my notes saying that DH was a direct relative!
If there is an actual reason for me to have the GTT I'll go, but not just because she wasn't paying attention or couldn't be bothered to explain it properly.

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 28/01/2014 17:36

LTT - Close relative with diabetes or having had GD will probably trigger them inviting you for an appointment. Mine was only because my nan has diabetes and my mum had GD when pregnant with my little brother. The only real issue I found with the test was the two hour wait being boring; the fasting and the test were absolutely fine.

I've been going swimming three or four times a week. Just being able to float and take the weight off is amazing, I tend to do lengths and then float and then if I've done all my lengths I allow myself a naughty ten minutes in the jacuzzi pool Blush

Parents and brother saw bump moving today! Wriggling and kicking so hard you could see it from the outside. My parents were amazed, brother was slightly disgusted Grin

TMI, but I've had white blood cells in my wee every time it's been tested for the last couple of years. Always clear of sugar and protein, but there's always a lot of white blood cells, and recently no sign of infection to explain it either. No-one can explain why. I think my kidneys are just buggered after the infection a couple of years back Grin

LongTailedTit · 28/01/2014 17:53

Ah but Moomin, your gran having actual diabetes would be enough in itself, and there is increased risk if your own mother had GD, but still none suggested by siblings having GD... Sorry, I sound like a broken record, but even tho I have had several friends with GD and know how serious it can be, I still don't see the point of going without good reason.
I just wish my midwife would ring me back and explain her reasoning!! She's so bloody brief at appointments, it's like she does the bare minimum to get me out of the door fast as possible. I always seem to forget to ask her something, and never feel I've got 10 seconds to discuss anything, hence why I just blindly accepted the GTT form and walked off.
I really liked my previous midwife, wish she still worked round here! :(

loopylou52 · 28/01/2014 17:57

Fingers crossed for the job mrsfoo. Also, if he's able to negotiate start dates then he should be able to make it a date which wouldn't mess up salary. E.g. where I work, if you start by the 15th of the month you get paid that month (admitedly only for half the month but you'd still be paid for the first half of the month by the previous company) but if you start later in the month you don't get paid till the following month. Hope you can find some ways to get out and about too. As much as your dh may be wary of you taking drugs, your mental health is also crucial for both you and the baby so it's important to get support.

Re stopping work, I'm due to finish at 34 weeks (using annual leave). I work at home quite a bit but the days I go to the office I do four hours of commuting.

Re exercise, I'm doing antenatal yoga and pilates and enjoying them both. I was a bit worried I'd have to stop due to pgp but the physio is keen for me to carry on with them as core.strength exercises should help. I'm also doing some swimming but taking it easy - physio said not to do more than 15-20 minutes in case it aggrevates the pgp.

Anyone suffering pgp, if you're not already seeing a physio please do! I know I'm lucky to be able to pay to see a specialist, but I really do think it's improving a bit (hope I'm not jinxing it saying that!). My main aim is for it to not get any worse as I get bigger so any improvement is a bonus. If anyone lives around Berkshire area and wants a recommendation then let me know.

loopylou52 · 28/01/2014 18:05

Gah, didn't refresh before posting and so missed a whole load of posts!

wm3010 - my pgp stems from my sacrioliac joint too, and I don't have too much of an issue with separating my legs. My physio said that because of my specific condition breaststroke probably isn't an issue (but she did specify the time limit just to be sure it doesn't aggrevate anything). Obviously I can't tell you to go ahead and do it, but the generic pgp guidance doesn't necessarily hold for all manifestations of the condition.

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 28/01/2014 18:07

LTT The reason was stated as my mum having GD - the midwife said my nan having diabetes wouldn't affect anything Grin but I do see your point - I probably wouldn't have gone if it hadn't equalled a morning off uni which I desperately needed Grin just felt a bit pointless - obviously I'd probably be saying something completely different if it had come back positive, but I wonder if a family member having GD is really that good a reason to do such a time-consuming and presumably expensive test, when there's nothing from urine tests/other blood tests etc to suggest that there is an issue? Hmm

I think if the only concern is your sister having GD, and everything else is showing up fine, if childcare/time off work etc is an issue, I probably wouldn't go - speaking personally.

McBaby · 28/01/2014 18:07

My hospital physio is useless the belt works if I need to walk for a few mins but anything else is beyond me! It's the same time it got bad last pregnancy so maybe it's when the baby and hormones hit me.

McBaby · 28/01/2014 18:09

I guess the thing with gd is it can affect anyone even with no family history at all or risk factors so they have to start some where given the devastating consequences.

bluestone85 · 28/01/2014 18:10

Well after a really crappy month so far and an awkward baby, we finally got to find out that we are having a girl! Horray!

23 + 3

LongTailedTit · 28/01/2014 18:27

Moomin - ahhhh, I see! I'll do it if she tells me her reasoning, but if she was just sending me for the sake of it I wont go.

McBaby - if they sent all pregnant women here regardless of risk factors, then that would be one thing, as I do understand that 50% of women with GD had no previous indicators. But they don't, and I had no issues with my first pregnancy, so there seems no reason for this test. It would have made more sense to me tbh if they'd tested me while pg with DS1!
Plus all the women I've know with GD have managed it fine with various strategies, so a positive result doesn't worry me unduly.

At this rate it looks like I'll have to take DS to the appointment with me, brilliant, 3 hours + in hospital, that's going to go reaaaally well.... At times like this it really brings it home to me how shit it is having no family or help available!

mumof2aimingfor3 · 28/01/2014 18:30

blue sounds like you've been suffering holiday blues like I have this month!

Congratulations on your girl :)

bluestone85 · 28/01/2014 18:35

Haha. I wish it was just that. I loved it there sooo much :-) My mum took ill at the end of the holiday and went to the doctor on the Monday when we got back and turned out she had fluid on her lungs so was sent to hospital. she has been there since. Long story short, she is going to be having a double heart bypass, hopefully sometime this week! but we are being positive and will hopefully sort out a lot of her problems. xx

bluestone85 · 28/01/2014 18:36

P.s. Thank you :-) soo excited. kept thinking it was a boy until about 3 weeks ago when I decided it was a girl!

mumof2aimingfor3 · 28/01/2014 18:46

Oh god, im so sorry. I hope she gets her op done sooner rather than later so that she can get on the mend quicker. She's got her grandma duties starting in may!

mrsmummytobe · 28/01/2014 18:48

Longtailedtit, that does sound a bit weird that they've asked you to come in!

Mumof2 that is amazing, I only ever managed about 25 lengths before I was pregnant haha! Would like to try it again though now I'm pregnant.

Bushprincess lucky you! That actually sounds amazing! Does she give you good advice about the birth? The yoga class I'm going to is 2 hours long & the last half hour is to talk about pregnancy issues & preparation for birth so sounds like it will be really helpful.

Kally, I'm stopping work on 25th April, when I'll be nearly 38 weeks. But actually we break up for the Easter hols on 4th April then I get 2 weeks off & the last week is only a 3 day week, so it's not as bad as it sounds! Today I did find myself working out exactly how many teaching weeks I've got left (only 9 I think). I'm jealous of nanny, can't wait to be on maternity leave!

Glad all is well with your little one, dobe.

Mrsfoo really sorry to hear you're suffering with depression. I agree you should definitely see your gp. That's what they are there for & it won't be good for you or the baby to feel depressed with no help until the birth.

Bluestone congrats on team pink :) Sorry to hear about your DM.

Hi to everyone else! Phew that was a long post :)

dobedobedo · 28/01/2014 19:06

Holy crap there's a due in October thread! Shock

ThistleLickerIsGoingToBeAMummy · 28/01/2014 19:07

I feel like I'm due any day GrinGrinGrin

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 28/01/2014 19:09

bluestone - sorry to hear your mum's ill, hope she's better soon!

My granddad on my dad's side had a triple bypass in early November - they expected him to be in hospital for weeks but he demanded to be let out a week after the op as he felt fine, it was his birthday and he wanted a Chinese takeaway Grin I called on his birthday to let him know about his impending great-grandchild Blush but I knew it wouldn't be too big a shock to his side of the family as they're used to having kids young - he was only 18 when my dad was born, and now he's not-quite-60 :)

Xavielli · 28/01/2014 19:29

MrsFoo - please go and speak to the GP. I'm a depressive sort too and am being closely monitored this time rather than take the meds. If your DH is still worried show him my fb pics of DD2; I took sertraline all the way through pregnancy and a year of breastfeeding and she's just super Grin

Bluestone - sorry to hear about your mum, hope all goes well.

LTT - I can empathise with the child care dramas for the GTT, DP is having to take the day off work to shepherd assorted children to school/playgroup and look after the youngest. I begrudge it and I need it really as I'm hugely overweight, so dread to think how you feel.

Bit of a downer here today, we were under the impression that some houses were going to be available for rental in the village where I grew up/my parents live but it turns out they're going to be shared ownership, which isn't an option for us. I'm devastated that I'm never going to be going 'home' :( Somewhere will come up soon, I'm sure. We can't stay in a 2 bed anymore.

PotatoPolly · 28/01/2014 19:33
