We've now welcomed mini sun, dawn, kat, zazou and selfies (please tell me I haven't missed anyone...)....who will be next?!

Those of us waiting impatiently will be showing down on dates, pineapple, RLT and curry while having awkward whale sex.

Hi everyone new!

Well what with broken phone and snow am going to miss the NHS breast feeding class today (did a private one. It it didn't cover much), do you think it's needed?

I've now moved from four hourly night time trips to every two hours - it's driving me nuts! So painful to get out of bed... Don't mind the waking up every two hours, have more energy now I'm not working it's the trying to get out of bed when I feel like an upside down turtle!

Welcome newbies and happy due date champs! My ds was a due date baby with zero sign of coming the day before....

38+4 today. I had a terrible nights sleep but I don't care as today feels like the first day of maternity leave - ds is at the cm and dh is at work so I slept in and now going to potter about the house in utter peace. Bliss! (apart from the tiny bit of work I have to do from home so not quite on ML!). I am really hoping to bank a couple of these days with no baby, ds or dh as I think its the last time I am going to be alone/have some peace for a REALLY long time! I am going to keep ds at the cm during mat leave but only for one day a week.

Right I am going to crack on with my work, hopefully have a nap and maybe a bit of nesting!

EeyoreIsh · 11/02/2014 11:43

cubano what a nightmare time to have no phone, I hope you find a solution soon.

It's DH's first day back at work. luckily he's part time so he's been around this morning but he's heading off soon. I'll have to cope from 12-7 without him, argh! It's a little terrifying. The weather is awful so I feel quite trapped in the house already.

Does anyone have any experience of being induced?

I've got to have an unrelated medical procedure at the beginning of March and was told I shouldn't be allowed to go over my EDD (in case I need recovery time in between).

My EDD is Monday and I've been told to rock up to the maternity hospital in the morning and 'take my bags' as I'll probably be kept in. I've not been given a sweep or anything, just been told to have lots of sex to try to get things started naturally.

I'm a bit scared that we'll be "forcing" her out and have read a few too many threads where being induced has led to EMCs, etc. Can anyone give me any nice induction stories so I don't end up with my BP through the roof?!

Thank you in advance (and here's hoping)! Smile

Hi Volvo I had an induction with my DD,and getting me started wasn't great because I wasn't close to term and so it took a lot to get my body ready to labour. Although once I got started I laboured well and gave birth naturally with only a small graze! I had a drip to make me contract and my waters broken and I found I needed an epidural because the pain became strong so fast.
However you are at your due date and there is ever chance your body has already done some of the work so you may not need as much intervention and even if you do this dosn't mean you'll need EMC or other methods at the later stages.
I'm being induced on friday if nothing happens (at 12 days overdue) so will let you know how that one goes!xx

volvocowgirl · 11/02/2014 14:41

Thanx Cherry. Good luck with yours! I think I'm going to live off pineapple and sexually harass OH all week in the meantime!
I've had no twinges, BHs, or changes in movements but she's been head down for the last 3 mths (though this worries me she's just comfy and wants to stay where she is!) so it feels very strange that this time next week I might be meeting her!

Ladybird81 · 11/02/2014 16:18

Welcome newbies!

There is still time champs, still 7.45 hours!!

No experience if induction I'm afraid but my best mate was induced, not a great experience I gather, but she did deliver naturally so that's a good thing.

I have had a meltdown of all meltdowns today, so mum is here helping me out and cleaning the house!!
I hate being ill, stinking cold I've had for 3 weeks that Won't shift and I have had about enough of having no sleep, a poorly DS and generally feelthe thought of a c-section feeling like this fills me with dread!

Littleen · 11/02/2014 16:33

Welcome Hope and Cherry :)

I'm 38+2 today and the thought of being pregnant for another day, let alone several weeks, is making me very grumpy!

volvo I haven't had my first baby just yet, but a good friend of mine was induced, had an epidural and a very happy delivery! :) Not heard of it increasing chances of EMC from what it is with a natural delivery anyway!

Ladybird that doesn't sound nice at all, I hope your cold clears up soon so you can have a few nights good sleep before your baby comes! So nice of your mum to come help though! My house is in such a state, I'm just ignoring it doing small bits constantly :P this |---| close to a meltdown!

HopeS01 · 11/02/2014 18:20

Evening everyone Smile
After a very long morning up on the maternity ward (and some tears!) the doctor decided that he was medically more comfortable with waiting another few days before I'm induced. I was given another sweep (I'm 3/4cm dilated now !!!) and booked in for induction on Friday.
The risks were all explained to me and I was given the option to request the induction against the doctor's advice (which means they're not legally liable!), but I decided just to be patient. Apparently I have a 30% chance of going into labour naturally between now and then.... Any odds are better than none eh?
I can't pretend I wasn't very very upset, I was expecting to come home with a baby Sad

Volvo, from what the Dr was saying today, an induction is undoubtedly not the nicest way to go into labour and very likely to be more painful. They have a 75% success rate (gel, waters broken and drip) which is offered a second time if the first fails. Following that it's a section. He did give me a lot of other facts about increased risk to the mother and baby, but sometimes it's your only option and I don't think you should worry too much (easier said than done!) because there are always risks in childbirth! I think he was just trying to put me off choosing 'early' induction.

I'm having lots of tightenings this evening but I had the same last night so won't be getting my hopes up!

Hope you're all okay and not feeling too fed up of being pregnant! Come on babies!!!!

Julietee · 11/02/2014 18:26

Littleen Siigh... me too! I'm bored.

Ladybird81 · 11/02/2014 21:38

Feeling a little better tonight littlen.
My mum is fab and spent all day here helping me clean and sort stuff. DS was really great and helpful to so that helped.
Mum went and got me some Vicks vapour rub so I'm hoping that will help me sleep tonight. Put it on the soles of DS feet as well, never done that before, but apparently is meant to work really well, so we shall see.

no sign then champs??

Hope, sorry it didn't work out how you would have liked today, but hopefully there will be some movement soon!

HopeS01 · 11/02/2014 22:02

Ladybird, that's really lovely :) mums are great aren't they?! Enjoy the vapour rub

bugsyburge · 11/02/2014 22:27

evening all,

I've had my huge shopping delivery made, I've cleaned the oven, I've deep cleaned the house, I've washed the sofa seats & the dog had been to the beauty parlour.... baby can now arrive when they are ready Smile

Littleen · 11/02/2014 22:28

Hope Good luck, hope something happens so you don't have to get induced!

Glad you're feeling a bit better ladybird - having someone sort out the house makes you feel better if nothing else! ;)

I got my new gym ball and inflated it today! Wohoo! Had one but it was too small, so got a pretty purple one now that is the right size for me. Also bought bedding for baby's bed, so now he can come once I've cleaned it (and made a matress cover) :P I am so slow, but my OH is even slower!

Littleen · 11/02/2014 22:28

Bugsy I expect your imminent arrival at my doorstep?!

lyndsey90 · 11/02/2014 23:54

I need a new back. I hate being in bed when I feel like this, can't sleep but need to! OH is snoring away happily :(

lyndsey90 · 11/02/2014 23:56

Feel like I'm about to get my period, hmmm...

good luck all, soon you will be doing night feed with the rest of us!! xx

Somanychanges · 12/02/2014 03:19

volvo I have had 3 babies and 3 inductions. The first at 34/5 weeks lasted 3 days from start to finish I only had the pessary (gel), had an epidural and gave birth without any intervention. The second again I had the pessary, an epidural and then gave birth. That one was about 20hrs start to finish. This time just over a week ago I was induced at 11am on the Friday, had my waters broken at about 5pm on the Saturday. I refused a drip as didn't want the risk of any intervention. Instead I climbed up and down 6 flights of stairs for an hour to get me going even more. I delivered naturally and no complications or intervention at 10;37pm having only used gas and air.

So as you can see I have had 3 really positive experiences with inductions. I actually prefer to have one if I'm honest as its all I know. They can be long depending in how far along you are etc. but from my experience they are all good. Good luck!

LovesToBake · 12/02/2014 08:36

Champs and Lynsey I'm with you on the crap sleeping. 39 weeks tomorrow and never expected to get this far after DS was born at 37+4 so getting seriously impatient now and irrationally worrying that all the baby is doing is getting bigger in there, making it less likely that she'll pop out with a sneeze! Last night in particular I swear she was trying to crack my ribs with what I presume were her feet. I actually cried out a couple of times and then felt melodramatic as there's no point waking DH with false alarms but it really took my breath away. I don't think I ever experienced such discomfort from within the bump with DS but I guess because he was born earlier, he never got that strong. Will be interesting to see if she comes out bigger than him or not.

Have still not experienced a single twinge/cramp/back ache/period pain which I'm sort of grateful for as I would be going mad symptom spotting if I had any to spot.
