We've now welcomed mini sun, dawn, kat, zazou and selfies (please tell me I haven't missed anyone...)....who will be next?!

Those of us waiting impatiently will be showing down on dates, pineapple, RLT and curry while having awkward whale sex.

evening all,

fair bit of baby activity this weekend.....

quick question for those who have given birth- would you recommend going go MLU or a proper maternity hospital? I'm due to give birth at our local MLU but there are no doctors and the next bestest hospital is 20 mins away.... my concern is that many of you have ended up having surgery for tears etc and now I'm thinking I should go to the proper hospital incase I need to be repaired/have an emergency....it's made my rather nervy Blush

bugsyburge · 09/02/2014 19:58

that should say nearest not bestest

pettyprudence · 09/02/2014 20:06

bugsy MW's can deal with most stitches/tears and complications. Its only if you need/want an epidural or CS (either during labour or for retained placenta for example) that you would need to transfer and they would send you by ambulance from the MLU anyway (and not necessarily with blue lights).

I have had a pretty busy day nesting - babies stuff put away/organised, old bedding and shower curtain put on my bed! Some cleaning achieved LOTS more to be done and then I will be ready! I finished work on Saturday so hoping to have Tuesday and Friday this week with ds at cm, dh at work and just me home alone, blissfully quiet!

Hi,

After fighting hard for mlu due to having SUA and a consultant stating I should have hospital care due to being " over weight and a first time mum", I went to mlu in labour after 5 hours at home, stubbornly rejected g&a, fast forward to 20hours later, I was blue lighted to a hospital as I was not progressing and had a c section at 30hrs.

If I had my time again knowing what I know now, I would go for Mwl at our hospital so the 'blue lights' would be a trolley down the corridor instead of 20mins down the road!

But then I was labouring with a back to back presentation and stubborn as f* so only took g&a when in panic mode which didn't help!!

My advice is to do what you are comfortable with, don't do something to prove a point or plan too stringently!!

Good luck!

EeyoreIsh · 09/02/2014 20:46

bugsy I had the same decision to make, the transfer in an ambulance was 30 minutes. I'm really glad I started at the mlu, even though I had to transfer, as it meant I had the majority of the labour in a lovely calm and relaxed place. The transfer was bloody awful, but I would still make the same choice again.

misskatamari · 09/02/2014 22:26

Our hospital has MLU upstairs and consultant led unit on the floor below so not a distance to travel. I laboured in the MLU until my contractions eased off and I needed to go downstairs for drip and episiotomy as baby was back to back. I'd definitely choose mlu again tho as it was a lovely place to labour and if consultant led unit was further away I'm sure they would just have sent me sooner.

It's a tough call tho and you have up do what makes you the most comfortable x

Quiet day on here - assume its because so many are in labour / had babies today...

EeyoreIsh · 10/02/2014 20:35

I've been stuck under a feeding baby all afternoon!

It has been quiet today, hopefully there will be more baby news soon.

bugsyburge · 10/02/2014 22:57

I'm still awake, I think I've had about an hour! Got Up at 2 in the end and cleaned the kitchen I just couldn't lay there anymore starring at the ceiling, and DH was complaining of my coughing, like I can help it???? am now relegated to DS bed as he is now in ours also poorly, yippee, one single very uncomfortable bed for me!
Hope everyone else is getting a decent sleep, and those babies are on there way!
Champagne I had DS on my due date so you just never know! It could happen

Dropped off the thread! Just marking place for now as trying to get a rather sleepy and disinterested LO to latch...

Hi, would you all mind if I join the chat at this late stage? Just needed some advice really... Sorry or the essay!
My EDD was moved at my second scan from 29th Jan to 5th Feb. I was booked in for a sweep on Wednesday (tomorrow) at T+7 but the midwife did it yesterday at 4pm (suspecting due to measurements, foetal heart rate, my BP, protein in urine and another look through all of my notes that I was I'm fact 40+12 yesterday.)
I was 2cm but apparently easily stretched to 3 because I'd thinned out. I've been having tightenings all night which are quite uncomfortable now but I wouldn't call it pain, and am losing my plug in quite large quantities (sorry for TMI!).
Anyway, I'm booked in this morning for either induction (gel?) or another sweep if the ward is too busy Sad.
I just wondered whether it sounds like I'm in labour already and should just wait? Does 2 sweeps in such a short space of time seem necessary? She mentioned that they could break my waters instead.
Anyway, sorry again, I just wondered if anyone had any advice/ similar experience? I have no idea what to expect with induction but it seems like they're keen to get the baby out ASAP if I'm 42 weeks tomorrow
(I don't even know if I should be taking my hospital bag this morning!)

Confused

Thanks Champagne, I think I'd rather come home than wait on the ward alone all day Smile but I've never heard of/read about anyone having 2 sweeps within 18 hours ... But I don't know, might be totally normal!
Feeling a bit nervous about induction because I've read that the labour is more painful. I just want to meet my little boy now though!

KalevalaForMePlease · 11/02/2014 09:05

Have dropped off thread as well! Nothing much to report, not due till 22nd, so will be around for a while I guess. Feet very swollen, nothing I do seems to work, will be happy to see my ankles again! Congrats to all who've had their babies so far!

glitterhoops · 11/02/2014 09:18

Hi Hope I've not posted on here for a good while.. I was in similar situ to you last time, they didn't get the dates wrong, but I went in for a sweep when I'd already been having mild ish contractions for about 6 hours. I would say to take in a hospital bag as they have mentioned breaking your waters - I'm not sure you can go home after this... As you sound like you are already on the way why not go in for the sweep, come home and bounce on a gym ball with some relaxing music or light hearted film. Then maybe agree a time to go in by for your waters to be broken if nothing progresses. Far better for it all to happen naturally - however if you do have an induction using drip then speak with them about pain relief, ie an epidural as remember this is not natural pain and will come on faster and stronger than your body is prepared for. It's not that bad though (with Best of luck pain relief). Best of luck - feel free to ask anything else. Rather jealous, 38.1 here and feel like its all ages away, except I too am having a sweep today.

cherrycola86 · 11/02/2014 09:34

Hi all, is it okay if I join in these final stages?! Have been following your pregnancys on and off, and have been starting to feel like a stalker like maybe it's time to say hi! Blush haha
I was expecting DC2 on the 2nd Feb but he's still making me wait!I've been having tightenings and period pains/backache regularly for periods of time since the 2nd but not quite there! Is super uncomfortable. Had a sweep on Sunday at 40+7 and was 2cm dilated and scored 9 on the Bishop's. Lost my plug after that (Which excited me a little too much) and have carried on with the regular tightenings/period pains since. Am booked in to be induced on Friday morning and am desperately hoping he comes before after bad induction experience with DD. Has anybody else experienced this since their due date and gone into full labour naturally?

bugsyburge · 11/02/2014 10:00

champs I think I'm going to plan to go to the mlu like is have all along but if I start to panic when I'm.at home with the contractions then I will go to the hospital instead to hopefully make myself feel calmer.

I think part of my anxiety is the unknown of not knowing how I will react to actually going into labour....I'm hoping I'm going to turn into some wonderful earth mother who takes it all in her stride!!!!

any labour niggles for a due date baby?
