YF - no probs I'm more of a 'texting' person anyways lol I'm sooooo rubbish at email.

Have you tried using trillian? It runs msn, yahoo, icq all at the same time and hasn't caused any problems for us where msn did. Plus you can change peoples names so you remember who they are

I have a stonking migraine! I'm worried it might be the dog - we're dogsitting for the inlaws, but I have a rather bad dog allergy (which is heightened by the hayfever) and as this is a golden retriever it's not helping!! Trying desperately to remember not to touch my eyes, as I'll be up s**t creek if I do!

Have so much to do.. really need to pack the suitcase still haven't done it. Finally finished shortlist of girls names, haven't started on boys yet....

Have to finish my end of year accounts else I won't know how much I earned, which means that I can't send off my maternity allowance forms should I need it!

need to pack for ds as he's going away with his granny on tuesday for 5 nights (sob) I have no idea why I ever agreed.

Need to go buy PILS an anniversairy present - what on earth do you get for a 30th? Is it pearl??

And all I want to do is baby shop! I want a bouncy chair (for some reason I love the fisher price soothing massage one) and a gym (the blossom farm one from elc!) but have no money

booby - fingers crossed hun xx

Dreamy - I'm not doing a full house clean till I stop childminding which means if the baby comes on date or early dh will have to do it!

melsy - hope you are feeling okay. I'm eating frozen stuff too... having said that, when my water bottles defrost nothing refreshes me more than breaking up the ice and eating that.. so I'm going to make some plain water ice lollies today lol. See if icecubes-on-a-stick are good! Trouble with all icy pole things is I can't eat one.. I eat the box!

sarah - I'm so happy you're hopefully getting the birth of your choice! Such good news.

I need to phone hospital monday, ask what the rules etc are regarding birthing pool. Didn't ask with ds as I didn't want it. YF - what was it that put you off?

Oh that makes another thing to do! Plus I need to finish filling out housing forms for shared ownership ARGH. Wish I wasn't working too lol.

Sorry talking to myself now dh is at work and I'm putting off walking the huge great golden retriever!

hoppybird · 29/07/2006 10:51

Morning everyone!

Wonderful news about Arabica ? yet another July baby in the August group!

I do hope Booby is coping with her contractions, or that they?ve eased off. But I do hope Pink is well on the way!

Luna ? That?s bad about your migraine and a bit surprised about your PILs leaving their dog with you despite your dog allergy. It?s extremely accommodating of you, in spite of being pg, hayfever etc. I don?t I could have been so selfless. Also, Luna, waas interested in why say you need to complete your year end accounts for Maternity Allowance purposes. I haven?t done my self assessment for last year just yet, but the Maternity Allowance form simply asked if I?d made at least 13 payments of NI in a particular ?test period? before baby?s due date. Are the DWP likely to request other information as well?

Melsy ? your hypnobirthing course sounds fantastic! I?ve been reading ?Gentle Birth Choices?, and it?s really helping with understanding the natural birth process and helping me feel in control ? it has chapters on affirmations and visualisation techniques which sound absolutely lovely. However, I still have a scan to go to next Wednesday, and if baby?s abdominal circ is still measuring under the 5th centile, they?ll wheel me in for a section straight away, so I?m trying to hold off getting my hopes up too much that I?ll be able to try for a natural birth. For this reason, I haven?t looked at the Gentle Birth Choices DVD that comes with the book (which shows a VBAC), as I don?t want to be disappointed in case I can?t have a try. Shame about your dh not quite being with you on it - it?s hard for many men to understand these things really, even my very supportive dh didn?t quite initially ?get? my motives for wanting a VBAC (although he does agree it would be the best way forward). I?ve been gently drip-feeding info to him, and really hope we?ll be able to watch the DVD together soon!

Also, I like the sound of your birth plan, re breathing and no coached pushing. I?ll have to make a note of that if everything goes well at the scan next week. Baby?s been moving a lot, so my 10-a-day kick count is well over several times most days, so it?s still looking good.

Hope the weather is easing off a bit for all of you ? we had a storm the other day, which was heavenly! Looks like it?s warming up again though. Typical!

dreamydowler · 29/07/2006 10:54

hi luna sounds like you are coping really well with the child minding mine has been a busy week too now that the children are off school Ive still got loads to do the house isnt even finished being decorated yet. I havent bought any of the things for my bag yet or any of the toiletries for baby. I still need some bras and nighties and am sick of cleaning now but it has to be done. I must get all the baby clothes down from the loft and wash them too this week

dreamydowler · 29/07/2006 10:57

morning hoppybird Im glad you are getting the birth you want and that baby is fine. It does seem a bit cooler here this morning but Ive heard August is set to be hot hot hot blooming typical

lunavix · 29/07/2006 11:28

hoppy - have you got the leaflet it says to read in the maternity allowance pack? I think it's called 'guide to maternity benefits' it says you need it if self employed??

I don't, and was wondering if it elaborated further? Maybe you don't need to know how much you earn, but I'd have thought it would be a factor.
I think to be classed as small earnings you have to earn under £70 a week to be NI exempt? And as MA is 90% of earnings up to £108 a week or whatever it is, I'd have thought they'd want to know that you were earning over £120 or whatever it would be to get the full MA???

I don't know how they do it with Self employment, I was employed with ds so it was much simpler. I was saying to dh, if you were a builder or something (not that there's likely to be a lot of pg female builders but you never know! ) , you don't have to log hours etc, so noone would know if you were working and claiming MA would they??? At the end of the year you just submit your self assessment for profits etc, not hours! Having said that, that's all I submit too, but I have strict contracts and attendance records so I could never do that as they're a permanent record! (And I'm far too honest to! )

I don't even know if I'm getting it, I'm only taking two weeks off, and they're as holiday. However if I have a CS or something goes a bit askew, my time off will be unpaid so I'll need it then....

lunavix · 29/07/2006 11:29

dreamy I think you're a star decorating and having so many kids. The older ones are such hard work!

lunavix · 29/07/2006 11:33

oh and hoppy I'm not feeling very selfless I'm feeling like a martyr!

Dog is really peeing me off... so far it's coughed at me this morning till ds and I took it for a walk, then it stropped as the walk was only 45 minutes and it didn't want to come home, now it's been sitting scowling at me. And I nearly trod in what appears to be either dog-sick or dog-diarrohea in my garden under my washing line! Could throttle the thing!!!

Whoever it was who wanted to get a dog and a newborn - do NOT get a retriever. Pain in the arse stroppy dumb thing!

dreamydowler · 29/07/2006 12:00

you are so right luna older ones are a pain dd aged 15 has not stopped moaning about her chores today and conveniently lost the keys to the back door this morning so she couldnt hang the washing out for me. Ive got two ds cleaning their bedroom it wont be my idea of tidy but at least I wont have to tackle the assault course they call a floor to get to tidy the rest of it

dressedupnowheretogo · 29/07/2006 12:35

hi just woke up pains disappeared at two and i sleptr like a log but feel excited that at least ive had something my dh was fascinated watching my bump frezee solid they on cue going soft

im gonna put some clothes in for wash then probably go in paddling pool cant be bothered to do anything and my hubby is at work for achange so im on my own til about 5

bursting thanks fdor last night sorry if i kept you up

hoppybird · 29/07/2006 12:41

Luna ? That?s what I thought, how it?s weird that they don?t seem to need you to prove that you?re not working whilst claiming MA if you?re self employed. When I filled in the form, there wasn?t a question that asked when I was stopping work or starting again. I don?t have the leaflet, I just got all my information from NI17A - A guide to Maternity Benefits form online, which I guess is the same as the printed leaflet??

It seems that you need to be earning at least £30 per week as self employed to be able to claim MA, and either hold a Small Earnings Exemption Cert or pay class 2 NI. I?m self employed, but I don?t have a SEE certificate (I decided not to get one, as my earnings fluctuate) but I do pay class 2 NI, which is the only thing they asked about on the form that was relevant to me. Maybe that?s evidence enough for them. I also expect they?re aware of your earnings because of past Self Assessments, so they don?t require you to provide anything further??

It?s the first time I have claimed MA, as I was with an employer when I had my ds, so I?m not sure what other info they?ll want. It just seems a bit too easy to be true to be able to claim MA when self-employed and like you, I'm really thorough and honest with my records, so I find it surprising.

At any rate, it?s high time I did my SA, as it?s been on my to-do list for ages!

burstingbug · 29/07/2006 12:59

Was no worries, glad all ok. I'll be up late again tonight to I expect.

pucca · 29/07/2006 15:42

LUNA....I am getting MA and i am self employed. It was really easy actually to claim, alot easier than when i applied when i was employed when having my dd.

All that happens is as long as you DON'T have a small earnings cert and you have been self employed for 26 weeks within the 66 week period (in fact i hadn't and didn't think i would get MA but still did) all they do is check you have paid 13 weeks worth of NI, i even paid mine late and still got it paid at full rate of £108 per week and will get it for the full period which is 26 weeks (i think) it dead easy to fill form in though and really straight forward to claim it.

SO basically after my rambling lol, all they do is check with NI contributions that you have paid 13 weeks worth of NI...thats it.

HTH

eenywifemum · 29/07/2006 16:37

hi everyone!! I dont have too long on the comp as my neices are staying with us today & tomorrow.

Just wanted to pop on and say hi to everyone!!

Wonder how Pinky is????????? I cant wait to hear!!

Booby that is exciting that you were having contractions last night!!! I'm so but happy for you!! See, things ARE happening!

We went to mothercare this morning to get some last minute bits & pieces - including some nursing bras. The woman there who had a VERY bad attitude was saying she wouldnt fit me for them til I was 38 weeks - I thought it was 36? She pissed me off anyway so I just ended up getting everything else I needed and left the bras. So I will have to go back for those. When have you all been fitted for them?? I am nervous about leaving it til 38 weeks as I hope to be going into labor about then!

Anyway I got lots of other great things, a couple of toys for Alexander, the buttonnose bear quilt I wanted (half off!) muslins etc. It was fun!

Hope you are all doing well!!

Caleb was born at 11.47 last night weighing 8lbs10ozs

had a lovely natural drug free birth with no tears, if a little longer than i was hoping for and he's an absolute pet, calmest baby i've ever seen! i'm sure that will all change though

dd has taken to him like you wouldn't believe, he's been inundated with kisses and cuddles since we came home at 2 this afternoon.
