burstingbug · 28/07/2006 13:24

Trying to to get too het up about it, I know that 3 weeks ago when I had the scan that baby was a good size according to their measurements, maybe he's going to be lean and slender, maybe I need to eat more to fatten baby up !
She was also yabbering on about baby's movements and I should go to the hospital if the movements were any different.
She's the head midwife too!!

sarahlou1uk · 28/07/2006 13:31

Aahhh they can drive yah mad the midwives sometimes , but I suppose they dont like to think theyve missed anything.

Id like to know more about the placental delivery by natural means , is it oxytocin they inject if medically done ? What happens if it wont expel naturally ?

melsy · 28/07/2006 13:37

corr I missed a flurry there in my posting .

CONGRATS sarahlou, thought youd gone quiet !!!xx

melsy · 28/07/2006 13:38

, thought it was your birth announcment , trust me to be an idiot and not read properly, Well congrats anayway xx

YellowFeathers · 28/07/2006 13:40

If it doesn't expel naturally then you have to go under to have it removed. Very rare though.
Its ergometrine or oxytocin. Called both.

melsy · 28/07/2006 13:42

Thank you so so much yellow for what youve said ,Im getting all emotinal now, such lovely words of encouragment. Its great its comng through on posts , as my sister said I went in hospital one person and came out another and with the help of my phychologist and the hypnobirthing lady Ive really started to climb that wall. Nearly up and over !!

melsy · 28/07/2006 13:43

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeek I trust that the general is only used AFTER theyve used the oxytocin??

melsy · 28/07/2006 13:44

so there must be more risk to trying to do it
withought the injection?

corr I really must change both of us , have playdate and mum here in 15mins eeeek I look like mumma frumpa!!

YellowFeathers · 28/07/2006 13:45

eenywifemum · 28/07/2006 13:45

melsy you ARE doing really well!

Yellow have your contractions stopped?

Where is Pink?

OP posts:
sarahlou1uk · 28/07/2006 13:46

Melsy - first time around I delivered placenta naturally in the pool without the injection. However, when I went to the toilet later, I was a bit worried about the amount of blood that was coming out. It sounded like I was having a wee but I wasn't - IYSWIM! Mw asked if I wanted the injection as would help shrink the uterus and reduce the amount of blood. I did and it did! Mind you, the next 4 weeks were bloody horrible (pardon the pun!)

YellowFeathers · 28/07/2006 13:46

Mine have well and truly stopped. Starnge though as they were good ones and been having them all night.

Oh well.

Hope your ok Pinky!

eenywifemum · 28/07/2006 13:48

sarahlou how were the next 4 weeks horrible?

yellow dont worry I think I've heard something like that can happen a couple of days before REAL labour begins, so it could still be around the corner!

OP posts:
YellowFeathers · 28/07/2006 13:49

Heres hoping

sarahlou1uk · 28/07/2006 13:49

Eeny - I meant with regard to the lochia and the wearing of those lovely maternity towels.

eenywifemum · 28/07/2006 13:50

isnt lochia the covering the baby has when they come out?

OP posts:
sarahlou1uk · 28/07/2006 13:51

No, that's vernix. I mean the blood from the womb.

YellowFeathers · 28/07/2006 13:51

God I hate them mat pads.
Having said that I didn't wear them for very long. Only had about 3 packs and that was it. Just used normal sanitary towels after that.

eenywifemum · 28/07/2006 13:52

right thanks sarahlou

I have 2 packs of mat towels now, ready to go and I will send Sal out for more as and when needed!

OP posts:
sarahlou1uk · 28/07/2006 13:52

3 packs?????? Mind you, I did have to put two in at once for the first week, one overlapping the other so it felt like I was wearing a nappy!!!
