YellowFeathers · 28/07/2006 11:48

The best thing you can do is keep busy. Stay on here, watch tv, read, eat/drink.

PinkTulips · 28/07/2006 11:50

well their definitely not BH, far too intense and back and hip painy... that said one labour hardly makes me an expert does it?!

YellowFeathers · 28/07/2006 11:51

Yeah they've gone now.

melsy · 28/07/2006 12:30

Im putting some excerpts from the birth plan that the therapist gave me , wouldnt mind some suggestions, (actually Id love to show the whoile lot , but its getting quite extensive !!!) ;

  • I will be using special breathing down techniques to aid the decent of baby for crowning; I will want gentle encouragement during the final phases withought coaching. Please use calm low tones free of ?pushing? prompts.

What wording can I suggest , as some midwives wont know what to say. I quite like the use of this paragraph , as part of what Ive been learning is visulisation of things flowing down and breathing that way, it really works , try doing it when doing a poo !!!. none of that tight pushing straining , which she told me actually can bring baby back up and tense the bits you want to keeo nice and soft.

YellowFeathers · 28/07/2006 12:33

Hmmm, just thinking that myself.

What about "and breath". So you know when to start visualising rather than pushing.

melsy · 28/07/2006 12:38

ahh so simple , IM always looking for the complicated me !!! couod simply be "and breath down".

YellowFeathers · 28/07/2006 12:42

but more importantly do you think this will work for you?
Seems the logical thing to say since your using breathing and you don't want to use the words push or imagine pushing IYSWIM.

melsy · 28/07/2006 12:51

Im really not sure if any of the hypnobirthing will work for me , but Id like to try it 1st , hard to convey really ,as makes me seem unsure , unclear.

YellowFeathers · 28/07/2006 12:53

I really like the sound of it. Probably because I found breathing really helped me with dd.
I think you'll find it all very calming.

melsy · 28/07/2006 12:57

It just seems like such a lovely serene way to birth. I just dont want to get myself upet if it doesnt work and then give myself another failed birth in my mind, so working really hard to be strong , wise and positive and allow for all permitations to hypnobirthing if it needs to change. Does that make sense ????

YellowFeathers · 28/07/2006 13:03

There is no reason why it wouldn't work Melsy. Keep practising the techniques and you'll become more positive and stronger.

burstingbug · 28/07/2006 13:08

Afternoon all,
Can't believe babies have been born already and that Pink is having contractions!
I went to my mw this morning and she is concerned about my fundal height measurements. I'm 38+1 and she measured me as being 35cm so she wanted to send me for a scan. I told her I didn't want make the 15 mile journey if I didn't have to, so I have to see her again next Fri and she'll decide then if it has to be done.
I had a scan at 35wks to check presentation and according to the measurements they did,the baby was above average size - so I don't know what to think as mw today thinks that this baby wont be as big as ds was (8lb 3oz).
Baby is engaging too, 3/5 palp.

PinkTulips · 28/07/2006 13:14

sounds stressful burstinbug, those measurments can be way out though so don't stress too much

YellowFeathers · 28/07/2006 13:16

Sorry Melsy, just re-read that and it sounded a bit harsh. It wasn't meant to be! Am such a numpty at times!

BB, I hear about this all the time on MN. MW's saying baby is too big/small and 9 times out of ten they are perfectly normal.
I would say the scan would be more accurate. Measurements can depend on so much and can be very much out.

melsy · 28/07/2006 13:16

I was told loads of times by midwives I was large for dates with dd , consultant said they were talking rubbish.

melsy · 28/07/2006 13:22

awww no worries yellow , you were being encourging , just made me think, am I practising enough, will it sink in ! Theres 4 different types of breathing for each stage and related visualisations too. She did them in the trance for me yesterday and I have a printed typout for the breathing.
