OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Hubbythecatandme · 19/01/2014 14:37

Ah yes okay topmammy mine was 26th of November so yup that makes sense.
Well you could try "shut you + female insult" : "TA GUEULE CONNASSE!!!" (ta-then girl without the "r" so ta-gi(r)l- kon-ass!) I hope I don't end up having to use it like poor Sebsmummy and her midwife who wouldn't shut up lol

waffles1990 · 19/01/2014 14:39

I didn't mean don't take a list of preferences by the way, I just meant being dead-set and especially laminating the plan is Not Wise.

Personally I'm going to go for a hypno/water birth as I've seen some brilliant ones

Hubbythecatandme · 19/01/2014 14:42

waffles do you get screamed at by women sometimes?
My friend sent her fiancé to buy flowers for the midwives because she lost the plot and really bllcked them at some point, telling them they kept telling her nearly there and it wasn't nearly there so why did they keep saying it pml! Ooops...

Beccus · 19/01/2014 14:42

lol, hubby, I am also disgusted by most of the contents of my frig. I normally love salmon, but can't face it at all. all my veggies for juicing are going to waste. I dont even know what I want to eat. I wanted bread, butter & soup, cheese toasties and scrambled egg last week, but I'm not into them now. I think I'd quite like a fry up or a curry, actually. ...baked potato with cheese and coleslaw sounds good, too...

Hubbythecatandme · 19/01/2014 14:43

can you have water birth and epidural?? Will you ask for epidural waffles

sebsmummy1 · 19/01/2014 14:44

You are very compliant when giving birth you will say yes to anything. Again this was something I was told but didn't really believe. They could have asked me if I wanted a limb amputated and if I thought it would provide adequate pain relief I would have agreed immediately.

It's very important that if you have an extremely strong desire to not have an epidural for example, that you make sure your partner knows this and it is in your birth plan so you are not offered it.

So in answer to could I have told the midwife to shut up at that stage, unfortunately not. Latterly I told them all to fuck off and get out of the room and thankfully they did.

Hubbythecatandme · 19/01/2014 14:45

Beccus chucked the soup (poor hubby) and having baked potato now yummmy, I blame kitkat for this!

topmammy · 19/01/2014 14:47

I like the idea of a waterbirth and doing some kind of breathing technique to try to keep calm. Not sure how realistic it is though to think that I'm going to be calm Hmm

Is it true waffles that if you need pain relief like pethadin that you can't be in the birthing pool?

Haha hubby I will practise that insult hehe hope no French speakers overhear!

Hubbythecatandme · 19/01/2014 14:50

How weird about the getting compliant thing! Wonder why... because you're scared and in pain??
Beccus my book (what to expect when you expecting) made a lot of sense last night. It says if you have used food to try to make you feel better when you are nauseous (I did with ginger ale for example) then you have to be careful not to have them in full view too much because they can bring back memories of nausea and make you feel nauseous again! I completely agree with this. I can't go near ginger ales and these chives and sour cream rice crackers things because I used to have them when I felt queasy at night yuck!
Agree about not seeing anything you fancy foodwise, I like carbs, some fruit smoothies sometimes, occasional compulsions like sardines but otherwise most things leave me uninspired. Hubby bought me my favourite frozen yoghurt, sorbet and frozen weight watchers desserts but I can't see myself having them any time soon :s

topmammy · 19/01/2014 14:50

Ooh that's funny about the baked potatoes we're all eating. The other night I just had to eat one with salad cream on the side (it was 11.30pm though and I was on my way to bed!)

waffles1990 · 19/01/2014 14:51

Hubby ohh yes Ive been screamed at!! But, you learn to take it with a pinch of salt because you know the woman is 'elsewhere' really. It honestly doesn't phase me whatsoever.

I have been told to "SHOVE YOUR BIRTH POOL UP YOUR F% ARSE" when suggesting it once and had to temporarily excuse myself to laugh lol, I don't find it insulting just funny!! Only things we don't tolerate are physical violence then Midwives obviously have to put a stop to that, but general swearing and insults are water off a ducks back.

If you have an epidural, you can't have a water birth as

  1. you'll have altered or no sensation in legs
  2. baby will need continuous monitoring which can't be done in pool unless they have wireless monitors which not very many units have at all yet
  3. you'll need iv fluids etc

I personally would only ask for an epidural as a last resort, as it puts you on your back for the duration, slows down labour and increases the risk of forceps and csection, because your baby is navigating against gravity and altered muscle tone, so compared to an upright and active birth it's a lot trickier

Hubbythecatandme · 19/01/2014 15:01

topmammy I think my way to calm down is going to be trying to stay at home for as late as possible!!!

sebsmummy1 · 19/01/2014 15:02

Waffles you have just made me laugh so much with that post. Thank you for making me feel like less of a bitch. I was truly horrendous to my midwives and was the literal equivalent of the exorcist ( I threw up constantly and my finale was throwing up over the lot of them as they were crowded around the bed post delivery). The only slight difference was my head didn't twist right the way round Grin

Hubbythecatandme · 19/01/2014 15:02

Oh bugger about epidural..... do most women cope without or do they beg for it???

Hubbythecatandme · 19/01/2014 15:04

I mean first time childbirth.
I don't think I'd ever be able to say "shove your f* birth pool up your @rse" lol I'd be more likely to snap but not actually be aggressive like that I don't think. As for violence.... WHAT??? Do some people get violent?????? That sounds bonkers :s

topmammy · 19/01/2014 15:05

Me too Hubby. Medical environments make me so nervous at the best of times. I live about half an hours drive from the hospital though which is making me a bit worried as things could change in half an hour! Don't want to give birth in the car!

Hubbythecatandme · 19/01/2014 15:06

With a first birth, from what I have read, it is mostly unlikely you would give birth in the car although I am sure some women have really quick labour even for first one, waffles can confirm that I am sure.
Arghh I don't like the sound of epidural now :(

topmammy · 19/01/2014 15:08

Oh God I hope I can last without an epidural. When I imagine giving birth I do not imagine myself lying on my back. Horrid!

sebsmummy1 · 19/01/2014 15:12

I wouldn't get off my knees. I stayed on all fours for about 6 hours and my knees were red raw. Funnily enough I didn't give a shit but everyone else did.

I totally understand why 'active labour' is promoted. But sometimes you actually cannot move as don't so brings on such intense spasms you are on the ceiling.

The best thing I had was a Pethidine shot halfway through. I was against it before I went into labour but as I said, they could have offered anything and I'd have said yes. I went into a beautiful sleep for a while and then woke up back in the room.

It is honestly the weirdest experience I've ever had so far.

sebsmummy1 · 19/01/2014 15:13

Ooh I also had an orgasm at one stage. My doula said it does happen and it did!!

LH1981 · 19/01/2014 15:19

All births are different. I didn't have pain relief for either of my births - (and believe me, it hurts like a b*@ch! - although you forget it very quickly) - not because I'm one of these 'natural nazis' but because gas & air and pethadine make me puke and I'm terrified of the epidural needle in the spine thing (although my sister swears by them, she said epidurals are sent from heaven)!
First birth was 13 hours (12 hours at home) then second birth was a home water birth and labour was only an hour.

This time around, no idea whether to go for a hospital or home birth.

I'm still craving salt and spice. Curries all the way - could eat them morning noon and night! Oooh, but a buttery baked potato would go down a treat!

topmammy · 19/01/2014 15:22

Omg an orgasm!! Never heard that one! Is that the body's natural pain relief lol. Yes I imagine being on all fours/ on my knees to be honest. Not sure why as its not like I've done it before! Or maybe lying on my side. But just not back!

My mum has told me pethadine can help you relax. I'll def keep an open mind about having that.

sebsmummy1 · 19/01/2014 15:24

Oooh LH I'm hoping for a home water birth. Just need to have an easy, uncomplicated pregnancy first!!!!

topmammy · 19/01/2014 15:29

Does anyone have a home water birth for their first baby? Or is that a crazy risky idea? Hmm

sebsmummy1 · 19/01/2014 15:37

They will allow it but will vehemently and exhaustingly try and talk you out if it. You must also be considered low risk obviously xx
