thisisme you're absolutely right. I had said similar on here the other night actually as this pregnancy so far is totally different to our last one - I was sick as dog from conception last time but this time, hardly even nauseous so of course I'd like to know everything in there is ok because of no symptoms. But, as you say, imagine if I had a scan at eight weeks, everything hunky dory, then four weeks later, baby has passed away? I know I'd be far more devastated having seen that little heartbeat at eight weeks to see nothing.

However, each to their own and I know how exciting all Of this is!!

Fairypants · 17/01/2014 18:31

Thisisme- you just made me cry (in a good/hormonal way). I am worrying this pregnancy away because I'm still pretty traumatised by the last one. Every day I convince myself it's over and I need to come to terms with it when I should be putting more effort into enjoying my pregnancy.
Your wise words have made me try to rethink how I'm approaching this so thank you Smile

LH1981 · 17/01/2014 18:43

Sittingpretty my hospital has an epu (early pregnancy unit) where they do walk-in appointments for scans if you have any worries. I went because I had no idea about conception date.
But, like some other ladies have said, it's actually made me worry more seeing as the baby was too early to show up on the scan (thought I was around 8 weeks, but turns out I'm 4 weeks).

If you're not having any bleeding (and sometimes even that is 'normal') or severe pain, then statistically everything should be ok. Obviously not in every case, but 3 out of 4. I'm trying not to be a worry wart - it's hard though!

broodylicious · 17/01/2014 18:52

Just read my post back and just want to reiterate that this is a mega exciting time and I don't blame or criticise anyone for their choices re scans. I also don't think you should beat yourself up if you do worry - that's just mummydom I'm afraidWinkSmile anyway, I'd hate to offend anyone with my ramblings - RL is bad enough but when I'm only communicating with you guys through here and you don't know me or my intended tone, it's so difficult!

dinah I would do exactly the same in your circumstances if I'm completely honest. Hope MIL manages to see bubba on the outside and give him/her a cuddle xx

Metalhead · 17/01/2014 18:57

Statistically, if you see a heartbeat at 8 weeks the miscarriage risk drops to 2-3%. So although things can still go wrong after that, for me it's just an extra bit of reassurance. (Plus in my home country women get more scans and tests etc. Than here, so I'm always feeling a bit short-changed here...)

LH1981 · 17/01/2014 19:06

On the worry-wart theme - is anyone else getting quite a bit of cramping? I'm 4 weeks.

Fairypants · 17/01/2014 19:18

I've had quite a bit a spoke to dr about it last week. She said it is totally normal and no need to worry.

LH1981 · 17/01/2014 19:19

Thanks fairypants x

broodylicious · 17/01/2014 19:30

metal I've a friend from Turkey who said exactly the same! There, she apparently gets loads of scans and more care than we do here. She's living in Sweden now which I think is more like the uk system so I'm pretty sure she'd move back to her folks if she had dc2!

noitsachicken · 17/01/2014 19:41

Hi everyone, I have been a bit rubbish at keeping up with this thread, life and a toddler get in the way!

Sorry if there is any bad news I have missed.

I am after a bit of reassurance, I think I am about 7 weeks and just had a bit of pinky/bloody mucous when I wiped. Anyone else had that?

Worried because toddler has been clambering and jumping on me, and I have been running about a Softplay all afternoon.

LH1981 · 17/01/2014 20:11

Not sure chicken but think they only say to worry if it's fresh red blood and/or if it has clots in it.

If it carries on, def go get checked xx

topmammy · 17/01/2014 20:38

Thank you Thisisme for your wise words. They really made me feel a lot better and gave me a warm feeling inside Smile

I bit my tongue while eating my dinner last night (doh!) so its feeling quite sore and being a teacher I have had to talk all day... it's surprising how much your tongue moves around when talking lol! I wanted to put some bongela on it but discovered you shouldn't when pregnant! So sticking with mouthwash and hoping for the best Confused

In other news: TGIF!!!!!!!!!!!! Grin Wine (Shloer of course!)

noitsachicken · 17/01/2014 21:25

Thanks LH1981, going to have an early night and rest!

TwosaCrowd · 17/01/2014 21:29

Do these other countries have a free at point of delivery health service like the UK? I'm pretty sure Turkey doesn't have an NHS. If you want to pay for private healthcare insurance then you can do in this country.

broodylicious · 17/01/2014 21:34

No idea twosacrowd. I was happy with the service I got from the NHS (bar HV) so I'm not complaining!

sittingpretty25 · 17/01/2014 21:42

Thanks everyone - it's just a case of trying not to worry! Haha - easier said than done. Lol

Been feeling more sickly today, all a good sign. Wish the cramps and backache would go away though! (I know it's normal but it's still worrying) anyone else getting cramps and back pain still? In 6+1 weeks

broodylicious · 17/01/2014 21:52

Sympathies with the back pain sittingpretty, I also am in quite considerable pain with my back. It's been like this for a while now, at least a month, so not sure if it's pregnancy related for me or not. I've had sciatica before and hope it doesn't end up with that coming back :( Have you had issues with your back before being preggo?

Metalhead · 17/01/2014 22:52

Twosacrowd the health system in Germany is more complicated than here, but basically it is publicly funded. I would have been quite happy to pay privately again for an early scan by the way, because it is important to me and I do understand the financial strain the NHS is under. I also have private health insurance, which has been great in the past - but that's a different discussion...

Hubbythecatandme · 18/01/2014 00:24

I too am hoping a bit of cramping is normal. Spent an hour at the gym and when I came back my "uterus" felt a bit funny like heavier or something... no major pain so I am just hoping a bit of cramping is normal.
Gym 3 times a week and calories managed with myfitnesspal app, that GP doesn't know quite how stubborn and competitive I can be when she decided to send me to the fat preggies unit lol!

broodylicious · 18/01/2014 08:19

Good for you hubby, you show that GP! Grin I should really get exercising as I'm a fatty and I do worry about the additional strain I'm putting on myself by now being pregnant. I wasn't considered high risk last time but I'm about half a stone heavier this time round so maybe I will be in for a similar stern talking to! Dh used to be a personal trainer so he's helping me with the diet side of things already.

Firstimemum3 · 18/01/2014 08:34

hubbycatandme well done, gym 3 times a week is brilliant. I couldn't do it. Work this morning and all I want to do is chill ARRRRRRRR!

BexBoo12 · 18/01/2014 10:45

Morning everyone! Hope I'm finding you all happy and healthy.

My DH's cousin and his girlfriend have just done the big Facebook announcement that they are 14 weeks pregnant!!! I'm so chuffed that someone will be pregnant at the same time as me!!! She's 7 weeks ahead of me but still, it's just someone to go to 'parenty' things with and also go to baby things later on together!! Has anyone else got someone in their family or friends that's pregnant too?

bugoven · 18/01/2014 10:52

bex that's great. 7 weeks isn't much of a gap at all but mad to think that means a different school year!

I am so lucky, I have a friend with a 3 month old who is saving all her (beaitiful, John Lewis) baby goodies for me as they're outgrown, a friend who is due in March, A friend due in April and (just found out last week) a friend who is about a week behind me. Feels like perfect timing as we both started trying the same month more than 2 years ago!

LH1981 · 18/01/2014 11:15

My sis is pregnant and due in April - but she's in Australia Sad

I am planning on spending Xmas with her this year but may need to tweak plans a bit now...was going on my own with two ds's (age 7 and 6) and my dh was going to join us two weeks later, then all fly back together two weeks after that (so four weeks in total) but now with a (hopefully all being well) new baby as well, I don't think I'm brave enough! So dh is going to try and get 3 weeks off and all go together for the whole time.

Am feeling a little more optimistic this morning. Been for blood test #2 and picked up a preg test on the way home. Line came up straight away and much much darker than last week so hopefully all is well.

xxx

kicksandgiggles · 18/01/2014 11:19

Hello ladies, mind if I join? Got my BFP on 30 December. I'm 6+4 with DC #2 (DS is 2.5). Assuming my average 30-day cycle, my EDD should be around 11 September (although I suspect I ovulated early).

I've been oddly reluctant to talk about this pregnancy so far, in part because I had a chemical pregnancy last cycle (very early; had I not tested early, I would have assumed AF was a day late - although I had very strong early pregnancy symptoms which had led me to test), which shocked me a bit because when pregnant with DS I just kind of naively assumed everything would be okay.

I'm going to pay for a private early scan just after eight weeks for peace of mind. Apparently a heartbeat at eight weeks increases the chance of a continuing pregnancy to 98%. I'm almost wishing away time until then.

Symptom-wise, I'm exhausted, have very sore boobs, and a bit of nausea has started creeping in the past few days. It's similar to when pregnant with DS; if I let myself get too hungry, I start to feel very sick and then don't want to eat at all. I need to start snacking more and doing the eat a biscuit before you get out of bed thing, which helped a lot last time.

Right, off to catch up on the thread now!
