Welcome Banana
Bumble I'm with you with the headaches but that's pretty much my mo for all pregnancies. Probably why I was shocked when my gender scan revealed a boy as this pregnancy is exactly like my 2 DDs.
Congrats Sussex on your baby girl.
I'm going to be 37, had my first when I was 29 and this time round I'm really feeling the aches, pains and tiredness - it's probably due to the fact that i have two other children to look after rather than age though. It did make me super anxious about the NT scan though with all the age related stats they throw at you.
I went back to work on Friday, which will hopefully make going in tomorrow easier, for those of you who commute have you started wearing a baby on board badge yet?

Vickyvix · 05/01/2014 23:23

Welcome banana and MrsLadyL :)

Sareva yes I started wearing my baby on board badge a week before Christmas. I was really embarrassed at first, both if someone didn't offer seat and if they did! But I got used to it after a few days, pin it on and go for it, I hope the people on your tube line are friendly and give up their seat for you.

Urgh, back to work tomorrow, I can think of a gazillion things I'd rather do but at least it's the start of the countdown to maternity leave! Woo :)

MrsCharlieD · 06/01/2014 06:31

Yey to ml countdown! However i have 100 days left. Is everyone else finishing quite early? Been awake since half 3, bloody typical when i need to be at work today with a fully functioning brain. I could quite easily go back to sleep now zzz x

jaykay987 · 06/01/2014 07:26

I've 100 days left too. Sounds like a lot!

Mitchell2 · 06/01/2014 08:34

Another 100 days here... But I do have 15 days holiday to take and haven't factored in Easter so it's actually a bit less...

Still feeling crap - 17 weeks. Where is that bloody second tri glow?!!!

MarlenaGru · 06/01/2014 08:39

May bank holidays, Easter... I will do a count some time. Am going to take a week off in Easter holidays and then try and start mat leave before May half term. Can never have enough holidays!

Redcliff · 06/01/2014 09:36

At 42 I am really feeling this pregnancy and have been feeling pretty lousy but from what I have been reading here lots if us are feeling rough so maybe its not age related. It was never my intention to be in my 40s but took about 5 years to get and stay pregnant so just rolling with it.

Have had my badge on since about 14 weeks and its somewhat effective but no completion for kindles and smart phones. If I'm really desperate I open my coat and rub my tummy but have only done that once as a tad embarrassing (did work though).

Bumblebeesmum · 06/01/2014 10:10

Redcliff I am permanently exhausted I feel like crap & even standing up is hard work. A friend was pregnant at 38 & bright & breezy throughout. Of course age affects you & who knows how you'd have found it at 20 but luck & genes are far more important!

hackneybird · 06/01/2014 11:14

Another one here that's also permanently exhausted and miserable with it! When will this tiredness end? I'm so down in the dumps today. I hate the first day back after the Xmas break, it's always so painful! :)

Welcome banana and lady.

Riblet · 06/01/2014 11:14

Morning all,

Congrats Sussex, a girl, how lovely!

Sorry to hear about so many migraines and colds. Managed to escape illness generally but did get food poisoning on Friday night Sad DH and I had a Chinese takeaway from the local place we've been to loads and both felt a bit funny afterwards (must have been the bloody prawns as only thing we both ate). He had a bit of a dodgy tummy but I felt like crap then had everything come back up (sorry). It was over as soon as it began but sore stomach muscles from vomiting are only just starting to feel better. Did have a little panic about the babies but Dr Google assures me that as long as I was able to stay hydrated all will be fine. Makes me grateful for lack of sickness generally though when I remember how horrible vomiting is.

After reading about some of your bad experiences in hospital, yesterday we found out that SIL was back in hospital with mastitis, fever, anaemia and a jaundiced baby 8 days after giving birth. I know that's not the hospital's fault but according to MIL they were very short staffed and they kicked her out too early (either 1 or 2 days, can't remember, after EMCS), and there were some other problems, some we've not had the full story on but also things like losing blood and not being given iron supplements or anything afterwards. Apparently the community midwife who visited her was appalled but not surprised that she was out early as a few other mums in at the same time were also kicked out. I think it's a small local hospital so don't know if that has any bearing but I'm really glad to live in a city with a specialist hospital and actually glad I'm counted as high risk as will be getting extra attention. I do feel so sorry for SIL though as she's a first timer too and her DH wasn't being allowed to stay with her at some points so just as well MIL is there.

Anyway, enough of the doom for a Monday morning- wanted to reply to some other posts but will need to go back and check what they were - anyone else's memory gone to pot?! Blush

Liquidambar · 06/01/2014 11:26

First day back at work and feeling tired! I did one productive thing: I've emailed HR to discuss my maternity leave.
I had forgotten how far away the toilet is from my desk! I'm on my third cup of decaf tea this morning and it seems I need the loo every 40 minutes. The corridor between my office and the loo seems the longest corridor in the workShock

Riblet · 06/01/2014 11:27

Summerbaby and Lmf - I'm glad it's not just me- we have SO much to do before they arrive! Been trying to do up the house for 2 years but since time is of the essence now a lot more is having to be done! I have just painted the kitchen so the half that had to be taken out due to damp can be reinstalled, and I had DH pulling up the living room laminate floor so we can decorate and get carpet fitted. Like you Lmf, the nursery isn't having anything done yet- at the moment our cats sleep in there! Hopefully won't require too much work (evicting the kitties might be the hardest task!) but I figured that they babies will be in our room for a bit first anyway so if worst comes to worst it can be finished once they're born. Famous last words! Hmm

Clutter - I feel quite old having my first at 33 but I reckon this will be about average for, say, the NCT class (bit the bullet and booked it btw). I think I will be one of the old ones for NHS stuff and locally though as there tend to be a lot of young mums in my area. Having said I feel old, don't think I would have felt ready before.

LadyGoneGaga · 06/01/2014 11:41

Finally some good news! My Harmony test results have come back as negative for Down's and the other trisomies - less than 1 in 10,000. So relieved. Receptionist must have thought I was a nutter as I just sobbed on the phone. Feel like I can relax now though and start to look forward to this baby.

Hackney, Redcliff and all the other knackered ladies I'm still knackered, suffering from terrible headaches and nauseous in the evenings. I think it's related to the high hCG they picked up in my bloods. And having two other children. Also my thyroid having gone caput again. Feel like an old lady! (I'm 35 so not terribly "old" whatever that means). Normally exercising gives me lots of energy but too knackered for that so bit of a viciouc circle right now.

Vickyvix · 06/01/2014 11:43

Well I have just done my maternity leave count down and assuming I finish work on 23rd May (with 2 weeks annual leave before ML starting on 10th June) then I only have 80 working days left.........woooooo hooooooo!!!!

For January I only have 15 working days left :) and for Feb only 9 Grin as we have booked some cheeky baby moon holidays in Jan and Feb.

This has put a massive smile on my face on this gloomy Monday morning! I think I might make a chart at home to tick off the days each evening.

Sorry to hear you've been ill riblet and hope your SIL is ok and getting the care she needs now.

Think I'm going to look into b

Vickyvix · 06/01/2014 11:43

Booking some NCT classes today.

BEEwitched · 06/01/2014 11:54

I gave my NCT booking up, £220 was just too much to spend when we still need to do up bits of the house and the nursery - several of us seem to be in a similar boat! Though we bought the house in almost new, show-home condition, it's just that there are bits that need replastering, cracks that need filling, grouting that needs re-siliconed and the colour scheme is overall not my thing.

I hope I get to talk to someone about my health properly soon, and we'll come up with a strategy of how to deal with the rest of my pregnancy. If I can go back to work I'll probably ask to only work in one location (I have two different permanent work places), the other one is very busy and physically demanding and I just wouldn't cope. They, however, are the place that's constantly understaffed so I'm not sure whether they'll go for it - they might prefer me to just be sick.

Liquidambar · 06/01/2014 12:07

What time is your appointment, bee? it's today, isn't it?

ohcluttergotme · 06/01/2014 12:18

Well done ladygonegaga must have been a huge relief.
Vicky that sounds a good countdown and lovely to have some holidays in the 2 most difficult months of the year.

I made it in to work but feel so awful and have been sent home. Got a GP appointment at 4pm. Whatever I have just doesn't seem to be lifting.
The whole morning not a complete waste as had meeting with my line manager and requested some annual leave and discussed options for mat leave. E-mailed HR so hopefully will have dates finalised soon.
Hope all other ladies not feeling so goo feel better soon. Smile

Bumblebeesmum · 06/01/2014 12:20

Good luck with appt Bee!

So we bit the bullet & finally went round to the puppy owners house last night. The puppy was extremely excitable of course but they locked him in another room for a little while & then had him in a crate in the living room once he'd calmed down & my toddler played with him through it. A much better experience! Well until they thought it was a good idea for my toddler to feed him doggy treats & he was inconsolable at not being allowed to eat them himself! Haha we should've seen that coming. Parenting is definitely a learn on the job process!

Had 16 week appt this morn it was nice to hear heartbeat. Can't wait to catch up with you all & have my 20 week anomaly scan!

BEEwitched · 06/01/2014 12:44

My apppointment is at 4:10 and then I'll have to see about my sit-in at the obstetrics clinic. Thank goodness DH is home today (hammering together our wardrobe as we speak).

Biffle · 06/01/2014 12:45

Snap vicky - I am hoping to finish on 23rd May with two weeeks AL on the end. Although I still have 96 days to work (even with school holidays booked) Sad

hackneybird · 06/01/2014 12:50

Regarding NCT and it's classes cost, it is still worth joining the organisation, which is only about £40 I think for a year's membership. That way, you can still register for local post natal coffee mornings and meet ups etc., plus other NCT events aimed at local families. I know a couple of mums my way who did this, rather than pay for the classes, and still found it a really good way of meeting new people with new babies.

I'm considering doing this, as I don't think I can face forking out for the 2nd time parent classes. However, we have moved to a new area where I don't know anyone, so I would like to get to know some other local mums. I miss seeing a friendly face when I pop to the park!

BEEwitched · 06/01/2014 12:53

Sounds like an idea, hackney - the next nearly new sale is on the 4th of May, so just a few weeks before my due date, but it seems that you can go even you're not a member.

Thing is, the 'local' group is about a 50 minute drive away in Belfast and I just know I wouldn't shlepp out there for coffee meetings with a newborn. That was really the thought that made me decide it's not worth it.

Vickyvix · 06/01/2014 13:11

Ah clutter hope you feel better soon, well done for making it into work.

Lovely news bumble, I have my 16 wk appointment on thurs and really hope I get to hear the heartbeat too.

Good luck this afternoon bee

I am struggling to keep my eyes open this afternoon, I think all the excitement of my maternity leave countdown and the half a days work I have done has worn me out!! Can't wait until home time so I can laze on the sofa.......zzzzzzz

Lmf679 · 06/01/2014 13:11

Riblet I know, there's a lot to do but I just keep reminding myself of how nice it will all be when it's done and I can enjoy the new arrival in a nicely renovated house.
