Racial, on New Year's Day I was useless...I lay on the sofa in my jim jams all day feeling rotten. I'm quite pleased I've only been sick today and have shaken the grimness. For now!

I'm glad I'm not back at work until 6th March, I couldn't do the commute with morning sickness again. Hopefully it'll be gone by then. Touch wood. :-)

DD is now awake so I think it's Jumperoo time. That'll keep her entertained!

Shakshuka · 03/01/2014 16:23

I thought it'd be cheaper than an amnio or cvs which I thought you could get on the NHS on the basis of age alone.

Still, since we're paying $750 a month for our health coverage and my employer puts in another $1,000 I'd expect to be covered for these tests Shock

lucyfluff · 03/01/2014 16:32

Blimey shak that is a huge amount of money for healthcare!!!!!

Racal7 · 03/01/2014 16:37

Thanks Hungry. There is hope for me yet then. Lucky you don't have work until March. I don't have a LO to worry about though like you. I have a commute as well and not really sure how it's going to go.

Shakshuka · 03/01/2014 16:41

I know, healthcare costs here are absolutely out of control! The system is bonkers. Whatever the faults of the NHS, it's way better than what's going on here. This is why people can't afford good coverage (not sure Obamacare is really solving that problem).

My dd banged her thumb a few months back - it swelled up and she couldn't move it so we went to an urgent care center. They x-rayed, saw it wasn't broken, we saw a dr for all of 5 minutes who put it in a splint just in case. The bill was $500! Luckily it was all covered but when we were in England and had to go to a walk in centre (and weren't covered by the NHS anymore as we're not residents) it cost all of 50 pounds.

Rogben13 · 03/01/2014 16:44

Hi everyone, I'm due August 29th. (Currently 6 weeks). I wanted to see my doc about my anxieties and also to ask about taking vitamin b supplement with folic acid I've read that you're supposed to take it up to 12 weeks but on the back of the bottle it says to consult doc before taking if you're pregnant. But when I rang they said there was no need to see a doc and just wait for my midwife app in 2 weeks time. Should I wait or just go ahead and start taking them?

Also wanted to ask if anyone has had any period style cramping?! Mine is constant and not painful enough to take paracetomol or anything it's just constantly there!! Sorry I'm such a worrier

HungryHorace · 03/01/2014 16:45

Holy crap, that's a lot of money, Shak!! Eye watering.

Does that amount cover all of you? Do you have to pay an excess?

Racal, I've less than find memories of my train journeys last time feels green just thinking about it!

Shakshuka · 03/01/2014 16:50

The coverage is excellent at least. I have a $15 or $20 co-pay for each dr's visit and copays for medication but nearly everything else is 100% covered with no deductible.

That's considered top notch here - most people have significant deductibles and a certain percentage co-pay for everything which can really add up . People have to think twice before they see a doctor or seek treatment because of the cost :( It makes you realise how great the NHS is as an institution!

Shakshuka · 03/01/2014 16:51

The number one cause of bankruptcy here is medical costs :(

Racal7 · 03/01/2014 17:44

Hi Rogben, I have been taking Vitamin D and Folic Acid following what it advises on the NHS site. I didn't ask my midwife before I started taking it and she said that was ok when I did see her a week ago.

I am now thinking I should be taking more vitamins though as I am not able to eat much because of sickness.

I did have mild period type cramping on and off, but it seems to have gone now. I am about 9 weeks.

FizzyPinkWine · 03/01/2014 17:45

I'd like to join the Facebook group. Who do I need to pm?
Rogben I've had period type pain on and off, not constant like you, but I think it's your uterus stretching. Shouldn't be anything to worry about, but if you are concerned get it checked out.

lucyfluff · 03/01/2014 17:51

Who do we message re fbk group? are there many mummies on there??

lucyfluff · 03/01/2014 17:52

ps shak Im not suprised people are bankrupt with those costs, it is an eye opener compared to NHS!! My ocd over visiting the doctor would be crazy money lol!!!

Shakshuka · 03/01/2014 17:58

Hello all - feels like I've not been on for ages! I went for my scan at the EPU today after the GP and the gynaecologist suspected ectopic on New Year's Eve/Day and am pleased to report back all is well!

Tiny little heart beat going like the clackers, implanted in the right place and am bong on for my dates too.

Glad all was well with you today Rose too :)

Hope all the other ladies are doing ok and the MS and the ligament pains aren't too bad.

I've only done a 2 day week and am shattered already! Next weeks going to be a mission!!

Mszeen, you'll need to alter your privacy settings for a few minutes til I've found you, then you can hide again!

Holly and I realised we were on the same conception thread for our DDs, I think that's as far as it went. :-)
