Thingy what a horrible woman! Sod her and anyone else with their judgy pants hoiked up their bum!

Fatas really hope you got taken early this afternoon and you have your gorgeous bundle :)

My wee bundle is 8 weeks today! Having a nap in my arms just now then nearly time for last feed and bed. He slept 10.15-6am today! Hope he keeps it up :)

Alexandra6 · 11/02/2014 20:46

wee sorry if you've already said but what's your evening routine and timings? Our babies are the same age but yours is sleeping better so I want to copy! Wink Can you pass me the textbook Grin Does he wake up for a middle of the night feed?

weechops · 11/02/2014 22:41

Alex if only they did come with an instruction book :)
Ok my day is something like : (excluding other 2 kids routines)

5.30-6am wake up &feed
7am-8am nap
9am feed
Then roughly he feeds every 2-2 1/2 hours with wee naps in between, never usually more than an hour.
6pm or 7pm feed then jammies on
(8pm sometimes has a couple of oz if last feed was 6pm)
8pm nap for toughly half hour
9pm-10pm feed then bed.

I always cuddle him to sleep wrapped in a cellular blanket as he's not then going into cold basket. I line the basket with other thick cellular blanket which I then wrap him in, fajita style :) and tuck him in with thin blanket on top so he's snug.

Last 2 nights he's gone til 5am and 6am. Before that it was about 3.30am every night. So it's getting longer. It's still usual for night feeds at this age though. My other ds was 10 weeks when he started sleeping from around 9pm-6am so I'm hoping Zachary will be the same :)

What's your nights like?

weechops · 11/02/2014 22:43

Oh and he woke at 8.40 tonight, started his feed at 9, drifted off halfway through but woke up enough to have 5oz total. Fell asleep at 10 and he's been snoring since :) I really should get myself to bed now! Night :)

WhenSheWasBadSheWasExhausted · 11/02/2014 23:44

Glad I'm not the only one who hardly ever has sex. Haven't dtd since 20 weeks pregnant Shock I really need to sort that out. I'm dealing with a 3 month old and dh has to deal with our dd she's always been a crap sleeper and its not getting better
So we are both a bit knackered.

thingy I'm livid on your behalf. Stupid woman, it sounds like she was going out of her way to be offended. Grrrr

fatas hope it's going well

weechops · 12/02/2014 02:00

Nope 1.30am tonight. Ah well I got to watch some more greys anatomy :)

RedRobin1 · 12/02/2014 03:24

Ah! I forgot to mention alex I swaddle dd too. So swaddle in thin blanket and then wrap a cellular blanket around her before she goes down in the Moses basket. The cellular blanket also gets tucked into the sides of the Moses basket so she's very snug.

I found her waking up every hour when we didn't swaddle her.
Once we swaddled her tight and snug she started going much longer - it made a big difference.

When have you tried the gro clock for dd? My dd1 loves it and waits every morning for the sun to tell her it's time to get up, it comes with a book you read about the importance of sleep, it's perfect for her age

Alexandra6 · 12/02/2014 07:53

Our standard day was:

Naps and feeds totally vary during the day
5pm-10pm: either napping on me, grazing, awake and chilling on our legs, crying
10-11pm usually: last feed, wind and bedtime
11/12pm-4am approx: good run of sleep
4am-5am: feed and wind, held upright to fall asleep
5am-7am: run of sleep

However yesterday we did a routine and managed to get her to sleep earlier with a dummy. She kept spitting it out though so we would gently put it back in again and again - is that mean?! Only thing that works at bedtime if she wakes as she's put in her sleepyhead bed! Anyway...

7pm: bath, change, sleeping bag, feed
7.30pm-12:30pm: slept in sleepyhead bed in lounge then carried upstairs at 10, didn't wake up until feed at 12:30
1:30am-4:30am: sleep
4:30am-5:30am: feed/wind
5:30am-7.15am: quite noisy/restless sleep

So the new routine did work quite well (much better than expected!) but...
Is it bad we rely so much on putting a dummy in again and again for the first run of sleep?
Should I be waking her at 10/11pm for a feed? We were enjoying her being asleep and didn't want to wake her but it meant I was up again not that long after and twice in the night in total.
Have I done the right thing moving bedtime earlier?!

What do you think?

weechops · 12/02/2014 08:16

Whatever works best for you Alex. Bedtime will naturally get earlier anyway so to start that routine now would be ok. And you are so not mean putting the dummy back in :) ds doesn't like a dummy but sometimes between 7pm and 10pm if he's fussy and not napping then ill keep popping one in :) they change so much all the time that nothing is set in stone, so if it isn't working for you just change things. Or the baby will anyway!

fatasbutter · 12/02/2014 14:27

Thanks! Baby boy fatas born at 15.38 and weighing 7lb! Elective cs possibly the oddest experience I have had to date!! All ok so far...

weechops · 12/02/2014 15:01

Woohoo! Huge congratulations fatas :) xx

Thingymajigs · 12/02/2014 15:59

Congratulations! Smile Would love to hear all about it when you feel up to it.

kittykatsforever · 12/02/2014 19:36

Congrats fatas Grin lovely news

WhenSheWasBadSheWasExhausted · 12/02/2014 20:09

Congrats fatas also looking forward to hearing about the c section.

kitty we got the gro clock. It did help a bit, if she's well and happy she stays in bed till 7.15, trouble is this winter she has been sick (just colds) since mid Oct. Hoping for a breakthrough and good health in spring.

The bay window smashed this evening, thankfully no one was in the room but its a bit of a disaster area at the moment (I'm minding the baby / mumsnetting) Grin

tedmundo · 12/02/2014 21:17

Yay fatas congratulations.

Hope you are all doing well

RedRobin1 · 13/02/2014 03:04

Congratulations fatas hope it all went well. How is baby fatas doing? Tell us about it when you've has some rest!

alex dd doesn't like her dummy too but we keep putting it in if she fusses. Your routine looks good Smile
Ours at 6 weeks is
6pm bath and change
6.30-7.30pm feed
7.30-10.30 sleep
10.30-12 feed
12-4 sleep
4-5 feed
5-8 or 9am sleep

I wonder when she will drop some feeds and start going longer between feeds??

OP posts:
kittykatsforever · 13/02/2014 07:18

Red yours was pretty similar to mine, I think usually they start to drop to one at about 6/8 wks, if I remember dd2 did but dd1 was slower but dropped both in quite quick sucsession so one at 10 weeks then a week or so later droped the other

kittykatsforever · 13/02/2014 07:20

The only thing I did was wake her up to start the day earlier so 8 would be the latest so I could make d

kittykatsforever · 13/02/2014 07:22

Buggar dd2 just pressed send lol
So I could make sure they got their 5 feeds in in the day

twinklestar2 · 13/02/2014 12:57

Congratulations fatas! Who's next, is it me? Haha!

Alexandra6 · 13/02/2014 14:45

Congrats fatas enjoy newborn cuddles! Grin

My baby is 9 weeks and last night was up for three feeds - 11pm, 3am, 5am! So why hasn't mine dropped to one night feed?!

I also had to let her sleep on me from 7.30pm-10pm because she was crying lots. And this morning I let her sleep on me and then cosleep from 5am as she wouldn't settle - slept beautifully on me though?!

I haven't been able to do proper naps today as she's cried loads, most of the day, bad wind maybe?! Kept fussing at the boob and wouldn't feed properly and all the crying reminds me of the earlier days, damn I thought she'd grown out of it! She's just fallen asleep on me at last but I'm going to have to wake her as we have to leave for her water babies swimming class soon (they're so good, she loved it last week!) - eek I hope she's ok for it today though.

kittykatsforever · 13/02/2014 18:20

Alex does she sleep on her tummy on you? A lot of babies prefer it and sleep better on their tummys, dd2 did, I know it's not how your told to put them but might be why she prefers it, dd2 wouldn't sleep at all well until I gave in and did it and I hated it at first but the change was amazing, we bought a sleep mat for peace of mind, do you feed her quite often in the day? Every 3 hours?

RedRobin1 · 13/02/2014 20:52

Twinkle it is you next I think Smile
Have the first trimester symptoms eased off?

kitty she only has 3-4 feeds in the day do maybe if I wake her up earlier we could fit 5 in so she drops one T night. But I get so much done in the mornings when she sleeps till 9. I wake up about 7.30am and sort my breakfast and pump at the sametime. What time do you guys wake up in the morning. I'm still figuring out how to structure my day.

Alex dd sleeps on me too and prefers it on her tummy as she struggles with trapped wind. I have the constant fussing at the boob and she still won't take a bottle. I can't wait till the day she drinks the bottle without fussing :(

Both mine wake up at pretty much 7 on the dot red, dd1 was the best sleeper when she was little and would go til 7:30/8 sometimes but now it's 7, the plan I followed was that you aim the feed them at 7,10,1,4 and 7 again or within an hour either side always waking them up (within reason hr each way) so that they get all the milk they need in the day then from 7 at night you never wake them, each feed is performed in a quiet dark room and no interaction and minimal nappy changes etc so that they understand the night is not for social interaction where as as soon as it's morning it's curtains open, big smiles lots of talking, both of mine often had a little extra top up of milk at about 5/5:30 aswell but have both slept 7-7 at night from 11 and 12 weeks, nap wise I let them sleep what they want in the day providing they fit in the feeds, once they sleep through you can drag them out so that they loose one and it's every 4 hours, the book I used with that principle worked for everyone I know, the idea is really if you do it from birth/early you never have to make them CIO later down the line etc they just naturally seem to drop them, don't know why but it does seem to work
