Yay for all the good nights!! Grin Grin We had a shocker, went to some friends and ended up staying as didnt fancy driving back in the horrid storm, H fought sleep all evening as there were so many people to smile at. He was horribly tired but wouldnt go down, finally slept at 2am, because I gave in and put him in bed with me, think everything was very foreign to him and he couldnt settle. But he then didnt wake up till 6am for a feed, then went back down till 9am. I however was up with an evil snotty nose and sinus pain from 5am so only got 3 hours sleep Sad hope I dont give it to H!!!

Merk I second the huge granny pants and maternity pads, you'll need breast pads too. Also if you do get a breast pump I will say the tommee tippee one is fab, used my friends advent one last night and found it to be a bit crap, just didnt have the same level of suck and took about twice as long to get the milk out. I was in hosp for 4 days and I agree it can be really boring, my ward was like an episode of jeremy kyle which was entertainment enough but if it had been quiet I would have been bored stiff.

Quodlibet · 24/12/2013 18:33

Meek have you got Lanisoh on your list? Cheaper on Amazon. Also you will need industrial quantities of cotton wool, balls and pads.
Are you next in line for Cavort's Tens machine? If so pm me your address and I will send it on in the new year.

BraveLilBear · 24/12/2013 18:44

Hello and ho ho ho! Are we all feeling Christmassy? Sending out a quick burst of cranberry elderberry festivity while I have half a minute.

Have a fabulous Christmas all!

MotherOfCleo · 25/12/2013 01:39

So angry right now Sad Angry my OH sucks.

He went for a few drinks with mates leaving me to look after H, even tho I have a cold an feel totally rotten. Was meant to be back at midnight an do night duty so I can get some sleep an feel better for tomorrows day with the family. It's now 1.30, he got home 40 mins ago and is still downstairs, no doubt eating crap and playing ps4. I am so angry that we matter so little, he's not even bothered to check on us. So far xmas sucks and I just feel angry and hurt. I also know that hes not even wrapped my xmas presents yet!

I know he's pissed as he was meant to be driving back here but text to say he was getting a taxi. He got pissed with his mates last night, why does he have to do it tonight too?

I'm probably being unreasonable but I'm just tired, poorly and angry! Angry Sad

MotherOfCleo · 25/12/2013 01:41

Ffs I can hear him snoring from the front room!! Tempted to wake him up by taking H down and tell him to bloody stay down their! Wouldnt trust him with H tho if hes pissed enough to sleep on the sofa! Angry

Cavort · 25/12/2013 03:56

Oh Mother I would be less than impressed as well. I would set an alarm for 4 or 5 am and then wake him up to tell him it's his turn. At least by then he's at least sober enough to look after H while you get some proper rest. Try not to let it spoil your first Christmas as a family though. You can always have it out with him afterwards.

Merry Christmas everyone!!! Here's hoping that she starts it by going back to sleep until 8am! Grin

oh mother, I hope you got some sleep. oh sounds like an idiot that needs a wakeup call. At least if he's hung over you can clang around him and hold a crying baby next to his head.

HazleNutt · 25/12/2013 18:00

He woke up at 7 this morning and had one nap at 12, 1 hour while we were driving. That's it. It's 7 PM here. Confused

Some kind of a growth spurt again, he wants to eat all the time, reminds me of the early days and if this keeps up, I have to find my lansinoh. On the bright side, I've been eating like a horse and lost 5 pounds last week.

Cavort · 25/12/2013 18:21

I think I read there is usually a growth spurt around 6 months Hazle so perhaps it's that?

We've had quite a good day here. E woke twice in the night but only briefly, napped through Christmas dinner and has just had another 2 hour nap while DH and I DTD and slept it off relaxed. Grin

OP posts:
Cavort · 26/12/2013 08:43

I am getting nervous now. This is 4 consecutive nights of E not waking up for 2 hours. Dare I allow myself to get optimistic that this is the end of it, or do I just assume it's a blip because it's Christmas and she has been going to bed late? Whatever it is, I am certainly enjoying this well-rested feeling. Everyone was complaining yesterday about how tired they felt after their Christmas dinner and a load of booze and I was saying it's the freshest I have felt in ages. Grin

Everything crossed for you cav.

Mine is broken/defective!!! He is a dream during the day, happy, alert, smiley, will self settle to sleep in his carrycot....but at night he is a nocturnal monster, he wont sleep in his crib for more than an hour, he then wont resettle, he just does his little 'pick me up' cry, the cry where nothing is 'wrong', his face isnt distressed and he stops as soon as hes picked up. I've even tried having his bouncy chair up here but even then he doesnt settle properly, he will only settle if held or in bed with us. Its so knackering. I had to have him in with me again last night just to get some sleep which isnt ideal as I have a streaming, manky, horrid cold Sad

MotherOfCleo · 26/12/2013 10:00

Oh and he woke up so happy and smiley this morning, gorgeous but a bit of a pisstake....cheeky boy!!!

HazleNutt · 26/12/2013 10:56

got him yo bed at 7, but for several hours he was waking up crying every 10-15 min Confused
And not even a chance he would sleep in his own bed. Fx it's growth spurt and/or teething and will be over at some point.

BlearyeyedLol · 26/12/2013 10:59

Hopefully this is finally the end of it cav!
Over here L had a temperature of 38.5 which completely freaked me out. Gave her some calpol and it went down so I'm assuming it was a combination of heat and teeth.
She woke up every 2 hours and I think it was thirst rather than hunger!
Wonder weeks says 9 days till next leap. Argh.

BlearyeyedLol · 26/12/2013 10:59

Cross post hazle. Are you off work???? How knackering for you Confused

HazleNutt · 26/12/2013 12:08

Yes, holidays til 2nd of January.

Alexandra6 · 26/12/2013 17:00

Hope everyone had a great Christmas despite the sleep probs, really feel for you as it's so tough when you have a bad night - I keep telling myself their sleep gets better and better as they get older but clearly it isn't that straightforward! Sophia slept loads on xmas day which gave me a chance to open pressies, have a big meal and enjoy a glass of wine! She's still been getting wind loads though (at least I think it's that and still hoping it isn't reflux that will get worse), so winding is a challenge especially when she gets sleepy and then either wakes herself up or I have to wake her up as I can see from her face she's got trapped wind. She went to sleep at midnight last night, then was up from 3.15-5.15 and again from 7.15-9am and she was upset when she was awake so it may have been wind pain.

Just wondered if anyone has tried Ewan the dream sheep? janey did you try that as I thought you did? Debating whether to get it as a baby "expert" recommended it to one of my NCT girls.

Purplemonster · 26/12/2013 18:15

We've got a sleep giraffe Alex and it does seem to soothe her although it annoys the hell out of me!

Cavort · 26/12/2013 23:42

Alex we bought a sleep teddy which played a range of white/womb/heartbeat/soothing noises and I would say it made zero difference to her sleeping. Personally, we found that watching for tired signs and putting her down at the right time was the best way to get her to go peacefully to sleep. There was/is a relatively small window of opportunity though and putting her down too early or too late would result in tears. I seem to remember from when she was maybe 10 weeks old she could manage a maximum of 1h30mins awake before she needed to take another nap. She is up to around 2h20mins awake time now between sleeps.

MotherOfCleo · 27/12/2013 00:13

cav what do you count as a sleep? Harvey will stay awake for 5 or 6 hours only taking 15-30 minute catnaps here and their, he just seems to be really nosey so if we are somewhere new or with new people he fights sleep, he even does it when it is just us at home, its like he wakes himself up so he doesnt miss anything. I worry some days that hes not getting enough sleep but even if I lay him on my chest and try to settle him he doesnt sleep, he just smiles and laughs at me. Surely he sound be napping more at 6 weeks?!? Just wonder if this is adding to his sleep issues at night?

alex I have a 30 mins of 'baby sleep aid' white noise which I downloaded from a free website onto my phone, it sometimes helps in the middle of the night just to settle him down, might be worth trying before paying for something. We also have a nightlight as after 4 days/nights on a busy ward he freaked out in pitch darkness, even now he wakes up almost immediately if it is too dark. They seem to work for us.....well they used to anyway....yawn. I bought a lambswool lined mini throw today which I have folded up in his crib tonight, fingers crossed it works. So far so good as he is fast asleep in their....hope it continues.

MotherOfCleo · 27/12/2013 05:12

so far so good, still fast asleep Grin however I have been up twice cleaning up cat puke.....oh yay.

Cavort · 27/12/2013 09:52

Mother I count anything over 10 minutes as a nap. She rarely naps less than 30 minutes though and it's usually 45 minutes or more, but I think that's only since she got a bit older and her sleep cycles became more adult-like. At H's age her sleep was all over the place! E has also always fought sleep and this is why we have to get her awake time just right.

MotherOfCleo · 27/12/2013 10:28

Cheers cav, very useful info. Smile Had a much better night on his new crib liner, we got a full 5 hours sleep apart from the clearing up of cat puke....twice so he was only up at 5am, 7am and 9am (having a layin as its xmas) Wink he's also gone back to sleep now, in his crib which is normally a no no while I tidy the bedroom. Small successes.

MotherOfCleo · 27/12/2013 10:30

Ahh strike through fail.....also it was 5.30am not 5am and that was only for a cuddle and resettle, he would only take an oz of milk...which is why he was then up at 7am I guess.

HazleNutt · 27/12/2013 10:33

Much better here too - V slept from 7 to 9 with a couple of feeding breaks and napping in his hammock at the moment.

cav, E seems to be sitting so well now, is she fairly stable? V can sit a little while, but then slowly falls over, hasn't figured out how to support himself yet.
