You other mothers can't deny,
When a girl walks in with an ever expanding waist
And a round thing in your face
You....'d better give her some cake....

etc, etc,

New thread! Enjoy!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
tinypolkadot · 03/12/2013 14:54

Hi skibear

It was my turn for the 'oh my aren't you big with 2 months to go' comment today from the girl behind the till at tesco. Oh well!

So, have those who've had the wc vaccine not had any problems, it's all been fine? Just booked mine for Thursday.

gnittinggnome · 03/12/2013 15:04

tiny mine was sore, and became a little alarming after 8 hours or so - a raised bump, pink skin, hot to touch. Asked the GP about it the next morning and she commented that the nurse had been heavy handed, so not sure if some of that was due to how it was injected. But she also said it's nothing to worry about and come back if it didn't go down or the skin turned angry red. Don't sleep on it! And give it a day or two to subside.

Hello skibear!

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 03/12/2013 15:12

Woah Littleen a 30 second leg cramp would kill me!! Once the cramp is at it's worse mine only usually lasts a few seconds max as I have to act immediately to get rid of it. 30 seconds would have me passing out and I'm usually very good with pain. Shock

My WC jab was literally unnoticeable. Didn't feel the injection and couldn't see where I'd been injected afterwards. No redness, swelling or discomfort - even slept on it that night. I think I was very lucky Wink

notoneforselfies · 03/12/2013 16:24

Likewise - if mine went in for 30 secs I'd be halfway though sawing the offending limb off with a blunt instrument!
Just had a 'heated discussion' with an old lady in the post office. Couple in there with a gorgeous tiny baby (all wrapped up in a pram), mum walking a bit like john Wayne, and the old woman turns around to me and said "that disgusts me". I was a bit confused and asked her what exactly and she proceeded to tell me they shouldn't be out with a week old baby and that she's had 6 and everyone knows they can't generate their own heat at that age (Hmm). I know she was about 90 and so is unlikely to have any opinion swayed, but I couldn't help but tell her that was a load of nonsense, the baby was wrapped up perfectly warmly, and perhaps after a week indoors the mum needed to get a pint of milk in from her local shop, and should be able to do so without being told she's disgusting. AngryAngryAngryAngry
People can be so vile.

marzipanned · 03/12/2013 16:35

Ooh well done notone. I am so rubbish at those sort of encounters.

tiny mine was basically fine but sore to sleep on for a couple of nights.

skibear welcome! What's your EDD? Baby no 1/2/3/4/5...?

sunflowered · 03/12/2013 16:43

Old people can be so judgey Angry What we know has changed over the decades and the way we live has too! Funnily enough, the number of babies dying has gone down, in spite of our disgusting modern behaviours...

notoneforselfies · 03/12/2013 16:48

I was just so enraged that this poor woman, prob venturing out for the first time and feeling a bit vulnerable, was being slagged off by a complete stranger to another (ie me), and she expected me to be complicit: She could at least have kept her insane opinion to herself, but if she insists on foisting her bile on to me then she's going to get a reaction.

EeyoreIsh · 03/12/2013 17:04

Hi skibear

notone good for you for standing up for the poor lady!

Only 12 working days left Smile I'm properly worried about how much I have to do in that time.

It finally dawned on me today that the house isn't going to be finished by the time I start maternity leave. DH has done lots, but I also can't help but think he's had 6 months off work so we really shouldn't be this far behind. I think I need to have a proper chat with him tonight about it.

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 03/12/2013 17:08

Notoneforselfies I can't bear people like that. I was in a cafe with my friend when our boys were about 18 months old. They were being quiet and as good as gold. A table of old ladies sat near us were saying

'Mothers shouldn't be out in cafés with their babies they should stay at home. Never did it in our day etc. '

It made me so angry. Angry How would they feel if we said 'old people shouldn't go to cafés, they should stay at home'?

sunflowered · 03/12/2013 17:39

In their day mothers had to stay at home because they didn't have washing machines, fridges or heating so spent their days washing, drying, doing daily grocery shopping, and clearing away the ashes from the fire. Women now have the chance to engage with other adults while they're raising their babies instead of engaging with antiquated domestic equipment all day (ok, maybe I'm skipping a generation - but my grandma lived like that and she was raising her children from the 40s to late 70s)

(Must stop ranting and finish my work or I'll be spending my evening engaging with it instead of new fangled household equipment aka tv...)

I hope I'm not like that when I'm old Sad

EeyoreIsh · 03/12/2013 17:49

oops, chat with DH about the house turned into argument Sad I'm staying out of his way and getting work done. I hate arguing Sad

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 03/12/2013 17:51

Yes sunflowered that's right.

I think I'd have gone mental without trips to coffee shops with friends when DS was small!! Grin

tinypolkadot · 03/12/2013 17:58

Oh no eeyorish hope you resolve your argument soon. If it's any consolation my dh is pretty slow at doing things, I still havent mastered the art of getting him to do stuff with him thinking it's his idea.

I can't believe that old woman, love lastnights suggestion of not allowing old people into cafe's Grin

Thanks for all the positive stories about the wc jab, I've managed to get the whole morning off work for it as it's not until 11.50 - result.

Another meal for 1 tonight, a choice of pasta and pesto or hoops on toast, lucky me.

EeyoreIsh · 03/12/2013 18:12

I think I'll have to bake a cake and cook dinner. I basically accused him of slacking off and only doing those bits of the house he thought needed doing. to be fair the last part of that is true he has done lots of the house, it's probably more that there's a never ending list of jobs to do. Oh well. We've booked the plasterer in fit Monday now so at least that'll happen.

winterflowers · 03/12/2013 18:22

Good one notone it's a totally outdated view and we should be able to be out and about as soon as we are comfortable. What about Nutello for a boy? Xmas Grin

I wasn't keen on the wc jab but the more I hear of you ladies getting it the more normalised it is sounding and I'll probs end up getting it. Finally have my 28 wk check tomo and am praying I don't have the same mw as last time. Am SO looking forward to hearing bean's hb again tho. Am seriously considering a private scan just after xmas as don't think I can go till end of feb without seeing her again.

Welcome skibear!

Littleen · 03/12/2013 19:00

haha perhaps 30sec is wrong then - it feels like a long while! But I have had ones where I've though "why is it not going away.." :) Normally stretching the foot works quickly though!

Good job telling the old lady notone they can be so mean :o

eeyeore make him a cake and it might be better. I think it's a man thing, starting things and then never finishing it. Or finishing it so slowly it's madness. I once waited 6 months for my ex to clear out broken glass and beer from the freezer when he put a beer bottle in there. When he finally did it, it was because we sold the fridge to the new tenants -.-

EeyoreIsh · 03/12/2013 19:18

I'm making dinner, cake next! He has cleared one of the rooms and is now madly stripping wallpaper whilst I mumsnet in there.

Baby has been really quiet today, still moved but not like usual, I've got my 31 week appointment tmw so I can get it checked out then.

For others that are 31 weeks today, when are you having your next appointment?

jazzcat28 · 03/12/2013 19:19

My wc jab was fine on the day/night I had it but my arm was v sore for the following 24-36hrs. All fine now but it was tricky to sleep on that side!

Old ladies don't realise a) how patronising/rude their comments come across and b) how loud they come out (presumably as their hearing is impaired). Well done for sticking up for that poor mum! My grandmother is famous in our family for saying stupid things at the wrong time so I'm bracing myself for comments already! I'm pretty sure they will centre around name choice, breast milk and routines.

Am increasingly fed up with work, another week where I'm in 4 days instead of 3 as per the plan. Next week I'm only in twice admittedly due to anti d appt, masters graduation and ante natal class, but still. I am gonna be dead to the world by Friday.

marzipanned · 03/12/2013 19:22

Eeyore I must admit I have some sympathy with your DH as am at home atm and finding it a real struggle to motivate to get things done. Ironically when I was hugely busy I was much, much better at actually achieving things! Currently I can blame my inactivity on the fact the building work hasn't finished, so I better turn into a whirling dervlish when it does :)

Appointments seem a bit different in Scotland - we get one at 32 wks rather than 31, then the next one is at 36. 36!!! That sounds incredibly close to the finish line.

Winter I felt a bit bamboozled into getting the WC jab - I hadn't really been planning on it, and then when I went in for the flu jab the MW just gave me both. But in retrospect I'm kind of glad that happened (well, thus far I am...hopefully there aren't any unforeseen consequences...)

barebranches · 03/12/2013 19:45

had my WC jab... so far fine. treated my self to cake as a reward!!!
Have a cough and its causing me bladder problems Sad might have to crack out my free sample of tena lady....

laura0007 · 03/12/2013 19:56

Good for you notone! Silly old bat sticking her nose in!

Eeyore I'm 31 weeks today too and my next appt is on Friday. Hopefully the boy has grown this time!

I feel very very naughty. I've just had a mcdonalds! I never ever ever eat stuff like that when I'm not pregnant! This baby has turned me into a junk food fiend!

laura0007 · 03/12/2013 19:57

Bare I'm the same! I coughed at work earlier and felt a little trickle. I just pretended it hadn't happened.... Blush

Unplastered · 03/12/2013 20:04

What it is with old dears sticking their noses in where they're not wanted! I was doing a weeks shopping with my Dd (aged about 2) in Tesco's. this takes around N hour or so to get round the supermarket, if I've written a list. I get one day off work a week - and was told by a snooty older woman that 'in her day' they took children to the park, not to the shops. Well, if you want me to feed her dinner tonight I have to go shopping... Mind your own business! I'd like to say I replied "we'll, in your day maybe you weren't at work full time and trying to cram all your housework, child activities, shopping into one flipping day a week" but actually I just stared, lost for words and wAlked away.

barebranches · 03/12/2013 20:11

laura my dh keeps laugh at me... mean man!!!

EeyoreIsh · 03/12/2013 20:23

bare I think I'll be wearing my tena lady sample when I go into work on Thursday. I can't sneeze or cough without a trickle unless I have an empty bladder Sad I've been doing my pelvic floor exercises like mad but no change.

marzi you're right, it's hard to keep motivated. I feel doubly bad because I really haven't done much around the house since getting pregnant, so I'm having a go at DH whilst being bad myself. We've discussed it calmly now, hopefully he'll forgive me fully once he has cake in his tummy.
