You other mothers can't deny,
When a girl walks in with an ever expanding waist
And a round thing in your face
You....'d better give her some cake....

etc, etc,

New thread! Enjoy!

Gah first day of mat leave lie in potent (ok so technically it is the weekend but still) and they are drilling the road outside the flat. At 8am!!

Jazz great news on the scan and I'm really sorry to hear about your cat. Sounds like it's had a wonderful innings and been much lived though.

Good Saturdays all x

laura0007 · 21/12/2013 09:03

Jazzcat sorry to hear about your cat, even though mine is evil id still be heartbroken if anything happened to her.
I can't believe we are actually carrying 4lb babies with us! That makes it very very real!!!

Oh jazz :( I'm so sorry to hear about your beloved kitty. It is awful when they go but as others have said, almost as difficult seeing them in pain. Sometimes the vet will come out and give the injection at home so they have a bit less disruption at the end. I hope you manage to get an appointment Flowers

Thingymajigs · 21/12/2013 09:41

Sorry about your cat jazz. Sad I would be devastated if anything happened to my cats and I can still say that after spending an hour and a half scrubbing the house this morning after two "accidents" from them. Hmm They can be a pain but also such a big part of our lives. It does sound like he has lived a happy, long life though. 17 years is very impressive for a male cat.

jazzcat28 · 21/12/2013 09:44

Thanks for all the lovely messages. Managed to get an emergency appointment at the vets later this morning. DH has had to go to work so said his goodbyes this morning Sad

DawnOfTheDee · 21/12/2013 09:51

Thinking of you Jazz - very sorry to hear about your cat xxx

Glad you scan went well - how far along are you again? Just reread my notes from my scan last week and it says lo is currently 5lb 6oz but i think i'm a bit further on? I know i'm having a biggie anyway so wasn't too much of a shock.

I really need to get into town to get a few last bits for Christmas. Wanted to do it this week but ended up waiting in for heating engineers, phone calls, etc. I'm full of a horrible cold too so am finding it really hard to muster any energy. Wrote an optimistic to do list last night. Haven't achieved anything yet. And dh went for a 'quick shower' half an hour ago and is still in the bathroom.....I hate it when he does this. He doesn't always grasp the fact that we need to set off at a certain time so we're back in time for DD to have a nap. Argh........

Oh jazz - all happening so quickly. Have some lovely cuddles this morning. Hugs for you.

Dawn my growth scan was at 32+4 and she was weighing (or they estimated - not sure?) 4lb 9oz then. Bump is still very small so she must be insanely cramped.

Littleen · 21/12/2013 11:43

Finally managed to catch up with the thread! So many of you have such cute stories of how you met! ^^ Inc. wall of text to catch up with it all :P

Me and my other half met in an online game, I was 21 and he was 24 - we were loads of people (met online) meeting up for a beer festival in Peterborough 4 years ago, and decided I should catch a lift with him as it wasn't a big detour for him to pick me up. I had absolutely no intentions of the romantic kind, as I was in a "Let's date as many dodgy guys as possible" phase. Me being most charming, having just travelled back from Amsterdam and not had any sleep for a few days. Fell asleep straight away and apparantly snoring -.-
When I woke up however, there was an instant spark, and our friends thought we already were dating, even though we'd only spoken briefly before! He came home with me after the festival, we didn't leave bed for a few days and after 4 months we made it official! :D

I don't think I was much of an Indie kid, born in 1988 and all. I was very much into Spice Girls, Nirvana and No Doubt - the two latter because my older sister liked them. I had a Spice Girls jumper and everything! Always hated boybands :P

marzi that sounds horrendous :S hope you get some Christmas spirit back when it's all sorted out! No idea what your "bum issue" might be though!

Julietee Ohh, very interesting! ;)

jazzcat So sorry to hear about your cat :( 17 years is a long time though, but it can make it even more difficult I suppose. I would be heartbroken if anything happened to my cats, would be very grateful to have them around another 10 years. Good luck today, don't forget about the lovely cat retirement home, which is where all cats go when they leave us!

CubanoHabana · 21/12/2013 12:13

Aw so sorry about your cat jazz we had 2 cats who had to be put to sleep very young and it was devastating and they had only been with us a little time, even worse when you had all those years together...

Well officially on school hols now for me, so 2 weeks off and then only 15 working days until mat leave! Had Christmas night out last night - at a cabaret show, was really good and advantage to not drinking and going out with SLT = a grand total of £5 spent all night! It was scarily quiet though for Black Friday...

I was a coffee shimmer girl and depending on which group of friends I was with, listened to wide range of music... I went to all girls private school, so with them it was range of destiny child and r n b, with childhood friends, 911, a1, bewitched and with shop work friends, green day, blink 182, oasis, blur!

Meeting oh... I (23) handed my cv into him (19) at the bar he was working in, had interview next day and could see written on top of cv 'nice bum, amazing legs' (this was back in my figure skating, pole dancing and riding days). Got job, thought hmm, he's ok but was in a relationship. We became good friends and Oh was a complete man whore, who used to try to show off conquests to me to get my opinion (although later admitted it was to try and make me jealous). I became nothing more than someone to collect my thn bf from work and drop off elsewhere, who didn't even remember by birthday, until he rang me to tell me he had been in a fight and needed taking dot hospital. Me and oh then went on a night out with a group from the bar and his girl best friend, who managed to split us up from the group an disappeared, leaving us alone and one thing led to another and we have Been together ever since... 3 weeks before moved in together, 1 year before engaged, 2 years later, married and now 7 years in and baby will be here!

With regards to the ex bf, he rang me at 4am in the morning leaving horrendous voicemail saying we were over because I hadnt answered my phone and blatantly had someone with me, when I had been asleep, all because he needed someone to pick him up because he had crashed a car and needed get away from the police... So it was a lucky escape! I ended up changing locks at 5am and had him ringing later in the day expecting everything to be normal! He also owed me nearly £1000, to this day, he has given me £10 which was when I was working in bar and he came in and gave me it as a tip because he had heard I was getting married and to take e it as a wedding present!

Wow! That was an essay and a half! Sorry guys! :-)

jazzcat28 · 21/12/2013 12:20

So after an agonising 45min wait at the vets I today said goodbye to my beloved fluffy Junior. Despite DH and I making the decision last night when the vet said it was time I turned into a teary wreck. So much so they suggested I leave through the rear exit. Home now with a cuppa and agonising over whether to comfort myself with cake/chocolate despite GD....

Sorry to be so glum on a Saturday. Promise no more self pitying from here on!

CubanoHabana · 21/12/2013 12:26

Aw jazz it's completely understandable, when I had my last cat put down I even had the vet and receptionist in tears, all because I gave her her favourite toy as she went and the tears... Oh dear, set myself off now... Needless to say it was for the best, vet wouldn't do it if didn't think junior would be better off in kitty heaven. Huge hugs x

Julietee · 21/12/2013 12:28

Marzi Oh, I'm glad to hear they can be big and we can still have small bumps! All I hear is how 'neat' (read - small) my bump is (the rest of me is not neat - I've put on a lot of weight and feel gross).

Jazz I hope you and Mr. Cat get the best parting possible. Mine is also 17 and slowing down a lot. He's a grumpy old man.

This is all making me reminisce about my first date with DH. We met in a Nero in Camden Town, then I took him to a concert I happened to have tickets for because we were getting on well (Sara Watkins, a country type artist). Then we kissed in a shop doorway in Regent St :)
I tried to break up with him a couple of times over the next months (I was on a sow-my-wild-oats kick which he tolerated), but it never stuck - he was the person I wanted to be with when I felt vulnerable.

notoneforselfies · 21/12/2013 12:50

Oh jazz I'm so sorry. Just burst into sympathy tears in pret. Still not over my cat passing away the day I found out I was pg. Sad At least he had a long happy life.

marzipanned · 21/12/2013 14:37

Jazz I'm so, so sorry. Sod the GD for today. Like notone I'm not at all over one of our boys passing away this June, I still keep expecting him to come trotting round the door with a loud miaow, so don't think it's at all abnormal if you find yourself mourning for a long while. Brew and sympathy xxx

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 21/12/2013 14:43

Sorry about Junior Jazzcat Sad I've been there too and it is heartbreaking but you've done the kindest thing xx

sunflowered · 21/12/2013 14:47

Thanks jazz - hope you're feeling ok. I think in the circumstances a small piece of cake is likely to do more good than harm if it can cheer you up a bit.

tinypolkadot · 21/12/2013 15:33

So sorry to hear your news jazz hope you're ok Flowers

misskatamari · 21/12/2013 15:44

So sorry about junior fluffy jazz. Definitely cake to help feel better. Don't feel bad at all about the tears, it's totally understandable. My flatmate and I had to put our pet rat down a few years ago as he was old and ill and we were absolute wrecks at the vets. It doesn't make any difference to me that they are animals - you still love them and saying good bye is painful and hard. Thinking of you xxx

LittlePandaBear · 21/12/2013 15:49

Sorry to hear about your cat Jazz, 17 years is amazing Sad

Not been on mumsnet for most of the week and have spent forever catching up with the thread. Love the 90's talk and getting together stories!

I was definitely a teeny bopper and in the Take That, Boyzone, East 17 camp Xmas Blush. But I still liked the poppier indie bands, Dodgy and The Bluetones!

DH and I met when we'd just turned 18, the first weekend of uni. He was the boy literally next door in halls. The girls in my flat went to the students union with the boys next door, and we managed to lose the others as we were chatting so much to eachother. Who knows what about! We've been together ever since! Got engaged at 19 after a year together as we knew we'd get married one day. Got married 6 years after that (it was a long engagement as we were so young!), and been married 7 years now, so together 14 years in total. DD is 3.

I'm finished work now for Christmas for 2 whole weeks, then just back for 2 weeks in the new year (6 days total) so really excited! Can't wait to finish - just getting bored with what I'm doing and ready to have my leave to do whatever I want! I'll keep in touch with friends from work anyway while I'm off but won't have to do the horrible train commute.

Our local pub round the corner has finally had a refurbishment and is now a lovely pub restaurant - heard good things so we've had a lovely lunch there today. Huge portions, and the most amazing desserts (I had a malteser cheesecake which I couldn't even eat half of it was that huge. Seriously it could have fed a family of 4 for the week). Cake Cake Miss Kat, if you feel like coming to the Grove it's the Fiveways pub :)

Just a few Christmas present extras to buy and then I'm done. Having Christmas lunch at restaurant with the in laws and family so at least I don't have to worry about being host. I'm so excited for my DD, she can't really remember last year's Christmas.

Preggo wise I'm 32+2 and just feel achy with a sore back - other than that I feel fine and am getting lots of movement. Had my midwive check on Wed and no issues, measuring spot on. WC jab was alright but had a sore arm the next day!

Right, I have been summoned to play in the garden with DD now before it gets dark....

Will try to keep up with the thread better! Have a lovely weekend all xxx

Littleen · 21/12/2013 17:11

Baaah :( So I've spent about 9 hours over the last 2 days making aprons... Made an adjustment to try and save time, and didn't realise until they were finished that they look absolutely ridiculous. My other half agrees, they really look stupid. He figured out how to make them better, but it will take atleast two more hours, and I'm too upset to do it tonight! I have so much to do, but have to sit down as I keep falling over when getting too knackered and stressed >< rant over!

CubanoHabana · 21/12/2013 18:52

Well not sure whether it Christmas cleaning frenzy or nesting but just spent 3 hours cleaning top floor of house... There's only our bedroom and ensuite up there! But been on hands and knees cleaning skirting boards, blinds cleaned, floors scrubbed, now officially knackered!

Only thing is, now the rest of the house just looks a state to me! Middle floor tomorrow and ground floor on Monday I think, then all bedding washed and changed on Tuesday... Hopefully will stay on top of it after that, so by mat leave I just need to organise as opposed to clean!

Sassy20 · 21/12/2013 19:07

Sorry to hear about Fluffy Junior Jazz. It's never easy to deal with let alone when you're heavily pregnant. Hope you're having a peaceful day and being looked after. X

misskatamari · 21/12/2013 19:17

Ooooh littlepanda I will definitely check it out! Malteaser cheesecake sounds very yummy indeed!

Littleen - sorry to hear about your aprons - you must be so frustrated! Just put it aside for the night and I'm sure you can put it right tomorrow.

Cubano - bloody hell you must be knackered! I bet it feels lovely to be getting the house all nice though and all the scrubbing will be great for getting baby in optimum position too!

It's so lovely hearing all the meeting stories. I've been filling in my "book of us" this afternoon and it is so lovely remembered loads of things from when we first started dating. I hope DH likes it! Smile

CubanoHabana · 21/12/2013 21:52

Aw just finished watching strictly... So happy with results!
